Former US Attorneys: James Comey's a Crook

Yup. And yet the genius elites all vouched for his probity.

And why was that? I think it's for the same reason that everyone in Hollywood is complimentary towards each other and claims "I love his work" or "he's so generous as a director" -- because they all have an eye towards their next job, the next **** they might have to ****, and because they all know you only say glowing things about anyone else In the Club.

The elite class also has this bizarre fetish about "Reassuring" the public about all things at all times, as if they fear we will go into a mass panic if there is any doubt in the absolute probity and omnicompetence of anyone in a leadership position.

I get that sort of thing in the military, where confidence in leadership is directly related to troop morale and troops' willingness to obey orders.

I do not get this in the civilian sector of life.

I wish they would stop reassuring us about everything, including things they apparently know nothing at all about, but think it's necessary to claim a certitude they do not have in order to deliver "reassurance" to me.

Because I'm finding it very unreassuring. In fact, I'm finding it downright worrisome.

58 "And yet the genius elites all vouched for his probity.

And why was that?"

A few of you may recall an earlier episode involving Comey.

The George W. Bush White House was trying to shove through a considerably expanded program of NSA surveillance, and they needed the Attorney General to sign off on it.

However, the AG at the time was John Ashcroft, who was seriously ill, and in the hospital. Instead of waiting for him to recover and resume his duties and consider the proposal at that time, Bush sent over Andy Card and Alberto Gonzales to get the sick, drugged-up Ashcroft to sign the authorization right there in his hospital bed. Ashcroft wasn't thus inclined.

Comey, who was Ashcroft's deputy AG, went to the hospital to protest and to buck up his boss's resistance. He eventually prevailed. Card and Gonzales left without what they wanted.

Comey thus gained a reputation inside D.C. as being a stickler for principle and a fearless "speaker of truth to power". Unfortunately, it was an undeserved reputation.

What was probably going on was instead that career apparatchik Comey observed the rampant disarray and incompetence of the Bush White House, and figured that the odds were strong of an eventual Democratic successor. Comey would thus have wanted to establish himself as an oppositional figure to the hated Booooosh, to augment his career prospects in such a new Democratic era in D.C.

And, cynical as that tactic was, it certainly worked, and ended up with his helming the FBI.

Because, psychologically, it had the effect of causing unit cohesion. Why? Because my officers are incompetent boobs, and I have to obey their orders anyway. I can grumble all I want, and do so ALL THE WAY to following their commands, to my death, if need be.

It serves a purpose, and as you say, it's mystifying to see this in a civilian world. Unless we're not really a free society, in which case...

And Gore would have lost in 2004 to McCain (war hero taking over mid-war). The real reason Gore never ran again was because he was personally responsible for gutting the airline passenger screening protocols before 9/11. He removed national origin as a red flag because it offended him. Had that flag been in place, the 9/11 flights may have been grounded before takeoff. That alone was sufficiently scandalous that Gore knew he never stood a chance at reelection.

88 When a government loses all legitimacy.

When a populace realized that a government has lost all legitimacy.

When the public has no faith that an election was neither fair, honest or in any way valid.

That's just the beginning.

Our government's security does not, and never will, come from the efforts of the Secret Service.

But rather, it's security comes from the bond of understanding that we're our government, even if we didn't vote for this year's batch of bastards, was "doing the work of the American people", etc., and that causing harm to a government official, would be to cause harm to us all.

This paradigm is being shed, and another, more terrible one is sure to take it's place.

Question is, will it be more terrible for those that governed, or we who they wish to rule?

Regardless of the ballot, we still have a say, a vote and a veto.

Anything like that the Dem's float a trial balloon on is not for the current administration, but for the next Democrat administration.

They did it for health care during Clinton's and got it through in Obama's. They will push the confiscation of 401k's in exchange for a fixed rate of return under Clinton2. For the children of course.

179 51 A blast from the past. Just about exactly 6 years ago when the dems still held the house and hubris was running high a featured speaker on the liberal talking circuit was gal named Teresa Ghilarducci.
Her thesis was that older Americans had over $18 trillion in retirement savings that was not helping the economy and she wanted to tax that wealth to get it from those idle savings accounts and put it work through g'ment spending.
Anybody know what happened to her?
Posted by: DanMan at October 13, 2016 01:05 PM (RusNE)

I worry about them doing this, every time I consider retirement finances.

All that lovely money sitting there doing nothing (as Dems see it), just wasted on the people who earned it, when it could be expropriated* and used to buy Dem votes from layabouts and wastrels.

*I suspect this would be done initially by requiring some proportion of retirement savings to be "invested" in those safe safe government securities they'll issue, backed by the full faith, credit, and integrity of the Democrat Party.

If it were me, I'd call the Trump campaign and tell Donald what I plan on doing and ask for a pardon ahead of time, in case they try any legal action. Then I would unleash hell on Hillary, Comey and Lynch.

But that would take a man, willing to do the hard thing. Men like that don't seem to exist in the halls of government any more.

One solitary person with damning proof on any of these chuckleheads could end her campaign. Ask for protection detail from Trump and pardon if he/she gets arrested by the feds. If Hillary loses, you're fine. If not, well, you swung for the fences.

237 July of 2004 from FOXNews:

Deputy Attorney General James Comey told reporters Tuesday he could not comment on the Berger investigation but did address the general issue of mishandling classified documents.

"As a general matter, we take issues of classified information very seriously," Comey said in response to a reporter's question about the Berger bind, adding that the department has prosecuted and sought administrative sanctions against people for mishandling classified information.

"It's our lifeblood, those secrets," Comey continued. "It's against the law for anyone to intentionally mishandle classified documents either by taking it to give to somebody else or by mishandling it in a way that is outside the government regulations."

The Berger being discussed is Sandy Burglar who stole confidential archived documents to protect the Clintons.

Comey is on the Clinton payroll either directly or indirectly. He's at a minimum trading favors. He should prosecuted.

Posted by: Deplorable Diogenes at October 13, 2016 01:30 PM (0tfLf)

I have to strongly disagree. Americans COULD vote at a much lower level because of the differences in our governmental architecture from those in the rest of the world. The others (almost all) have a euro-style, party-oriented parliamentary system that has, essentially, no limits on it. They have a bound, ephemeral Executive branch that doesn't even exist until some party or coalition takes full control of the legislature. The Executive, therefore, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the legislature. In America, we have totally independent Legislature and Executive. Both exist completely independent of each other. We have no "no-confidence" vote to dissolve the Executive branch.

Further, our Constitutional Republic had put strict limits on the powers of the federal government, meaning that most people never had to worry about it. The feds could only do so much damage. Unlike with Democracies (which the parliamentary governments are, basically) where the supreme power is held by the People and they can vote for representatives to do any damned thing they want.

This is how America was constructed and used to generally adhere to - before Barky. And in such a system there is little "need" to vote. The vote is not everything, just one little cog in the larger machinery of a limited government, where supreme power rests with the Constitution.

=============================================

I do roughly half and half. Bank money for auto-pay of bills. Non-bank money for when bank money will not be accessible. Small bills. Nothing over a 20. Rolls of coins as well. If you need to pay for something and don't have small bills or coins, the person on the other end of the transaction may not be able to make change, and you've just spent $20 for a $7 item.

The difference is the US always voted at about the 55% level, Europe was commonly at 80% or better. Everyone would moan and groan about how uninvolved Americans were.
Well, that because Americans were satisfied with life. They were getting along with living and could reasonably expect those elected to do their jobs.
Not the case anymore. When Americans vote at the 80% or better level its because we are pissed. And it becomes a very dangerous time.

At one time the two parties barely differed from each other, and both were patriotic and pro-American. (Yes! I know it's hard to believe, but recall that the Dems ginned up the Vietnam War to stop Communism. Can't imagine that now, can you?)

Oh, sure, the two parties differed on minor issues, e.g., minimum wage level, that sort of thing, but fundamentally they both would have fit easily within today's GOP.

Europeans used to complain about that, saying there was no choice, as both parties were unabashedly capitalist and for a strong America, unlike their elections, where the choice was between socialists and capitalist Lite parties.

savings that was not helping the economy and she wanted to tax that
wealth to get it from those idle savings accounts and put it work
through g'ment spending.

That is utter and complete bullshit. Money "in" the stock market 401Ks is not in the stock market. It transfers from you to the person who previously owned the stock - so it remains in circulation. The retirees have to pay taxes on it when it is drawn out.

As I have explained repeatedly money paid to the feds in taxes is simply destroyed. It is withdrawn from your checking account but it does not go into some treasury account. It simply vanishes. When the Feds print money that cash is created out of nothing and it disappears into nothing when it is taxed back. If you pay in cash they just burn the cash. They print money - they don't need yours.
