Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Obama, The Feckless Wonder [Mis. Hum.]Barack Obama came to the White House knowing nothing of substance. He will leave office without learning anything of substance. However he did hone his skills of rationalization. Take for example Syria. The“There’s a different leader in Syria now. Many of the members of Congress of both parties who have gone to Syria in recent months have said they believe he’s a reformer.”The Barack Obama who in 2012 would hold Assad to account for the use of chemical weapons; the famous "red line". Now he is backtracking with excuses layered upon excuse. No one but Obama is responsible for that “red line.” He drew in August 2012 it despite the fact that Damascus was an ally of Tehran and a client of Moscow at the time. When that line was repeatedly crossed, it was Obama who withdrew his threat. It was Obama who warned that non-intervention would lead to a future in which U.S. troops faced chemical weapons on the battlefield— a warning that has proven accurate. It was Obama who looked the other way as Iranian military and proxy forces flooded into Syria in his first term, and it was Obama who invited greater direct Russian involvement in that conflict in his second. It was Obama’s desire to partner with these nations for the sake of an Iranian nuclear agreement that stayed his hand. As Commander in Chief he has an obligation and fiduciary duty to U.S. armed forces. A little mustard gas here. A little mustard gas there. No big deal and it's not my fault. Besides I have to give billions of dollars to Iran. That region has been a mixed up tumultuous region for centuries. Between the various tribes, the differences between the Shiites and Sunnis you have one messed up region. The strongest democracy in the region is Israel and it is spat upon by this administration and the Democratic nominee for POTUS. Is there a solution for peace? Probably not. But neither candidate who wins the presidency should go into their presidency uttering useless and thoughtless words. Because we all know words have meanings and actions have consequences. Actually, that notion is now considered just so stupid. The Foucaultian idiocy has infected all areas of thought, or "thought" to be more specific, and the notion that words mean things and that actions have is now rejected by far too many who are in charge of real world issues. We're into all out Alice In Wonderland words mean what I say they mean but about international relations with countries with ill intent and nuclear weapons. yaaaaaay Posted by: alexthechick - but I have chocolate chip cookies so that's okay then at September 30, 2016 02:14 PM (mf5HN) 5

Perfect way to troll those idiots. And awesome creative use of Alinksy's doctrine: "Force them to follow their own rules." As the left gains power and I'm confident this type of thing will spread, and people will find all kinds of creative ways to confound the left and expose their idiocy. The worm is starting to turn. As CiC of our military, I have a personal, seething hatred of him.
As I informed the horde in the art thread, our son is one of thousands of GA college attending vets who are going into their third month without their cost of living stipends. We are more than able to help our son pay his rent again, but as he told the VA douche in Ohio (where GA has outsourced VA claims), there are many vets on his campus who are about to become homeless. "Dave" in Ohio said he's "sorry." Got lots of great advice this morning, and have forwarded to our son. Prayers for the vets who'll be getting kicked out of their apartments next month. I don't mind using the military to facilitate aid,
I'd rather we had a separate organization dedicated to the aid mission, and let the military pursue their own mission. I'm convinced the reason we don't do that, though, is that the military is uniquely qualified to do the required mass logistics in a hurry. NGO types don't do logistics, at least not well. I have for years proposed a 5th branch of the military that handles this kind of thing: aid, moving stuff around, logistics, rebuilding after wars, etc. Sort of a super-engineers division, but like the Navy or Air Force. That would free armed forces up for their proper job, like you say. I don't mind an aircraft carrier used to aid people after a disaster, but why not one built for the purpose? The point of not enforcing the red line on chemical weapons was so that Democrats in Congress would not have to vote in favor of any war-like type of thing.
To order a naval barrage of cruise missiles against the government of Syria would have been so clearly an Act of War against that country, which had not attacked us, by the United States and Obama could not as easily hide it behind NATO or the UN as he did with the bombing of Libya. There were more and more pundits saying he needed to go to Congress to get authorization for the attack. He could have easily gotten the approval, with the neocons like McCain and Graham leading a GOP contingent and Obama whipping the Dems for a favorable vote. But Obama was unwilling to use his presidential influence to get the Dems to vote for a pro-war bill. He has never been a leader of people, he is a whiner and an agitator. So he decided not to even try for a vote in Congress to authorize him to launch a military attack on Syria, for Democrat political reasons. Of course, do we really know who used the chemical weapons? Assad or the Islamic fighters? We can't take Obama's assertions at face value. And Obama ordering the United States to launch a war against Syria would have only made a mess a bigger mess, which is what he is an expert at doing. My position on Syria has always been there are no good guys there. Syria has been a Russian client State for decades. It has also been a terrorist State for decades. If we were going to do anything it should have been to consolidate forces in Iraq after we went through there. Have Israel go after Syria and we go after Iran.
Iran was already sending troops after our forces and finally settling the hash of both them and Iraq would have quietened things down there for at least 50 years. Posted by: Vic We Have No Party at September 30, 2016 02:26 PM (mpXpK) 51

------------ While this is no doubt true, there are still reasons to impeach. I would agree that Senate removal should be taken into consideration, but the idea that you should never impeach unless removal is certain (or even possible) to me is too high a standard. An impeachment is still a political process that likely weakens a presidency - not one that makes him stronger. It rallies the base, and it shows that you are at least willing to use your constitutional powers to hold him accountable. The MAJORITY of Americans either approve of Obama's idiocy or just don't care.
---------------- I'll also add this. If Congress doesn't care, why would the American people? And if Congress doesn't push back, then it appears that Congress approves. Show the country that you care and disapprove by filing articles of impeachment - you may find that some Americans actually wake up. Posted by: SH at September 30, 2016 02:38 PM (gmeXX) 80

Hillary is able to laugh in the face of calamity ... not out of bravery, she actually thinks it is funny.
Asked about overthrowing Ghadaffi, Hillary smiled and said "we came we saw, he died" followed by a sincere long cackle/laugh. Ghadaffi had warned he was the one keeping the flood of Muslim radicals from flooding Europe. He was right. With our aircraft spun up and waiting, several requests for the "GO" were met with silence from the WH. But while emailing Chelsea and Egyptians, the war room produced the necessary cover ... not for the battle to save Stevens and others, cover for the reality of the terrorist attack underway. "America is Islamophobic, and that video caused this outrage ... we will get that filmmaker and silence him, and any other American deplorable that calls this Muslim terrorism." I don't know if she laughs at all the beheadings or gays thrown off buildings, or rapes and torture. The Soros backed invasion of Europe by the "refugees" must be pretty funny to her, as she adores open borders Merkel and the predictable jihad fires in France and Germany. Merkel finally recanted ... that really should be a clue for America to not elect Hillary. Posted by: illiniwek at September 30, 2016 02:46 PM (n6rAX) 103

The fact that a UN small arms ban isn't immediately effective and will likely be defeated is nice, but the endless probing by the hard left is dispiriting. Not only are they always probing for weakness, but the very act of seeking what (now) seems an outrageous advance of their "progressive" agenda itself serves (they hope, and they are often right) to make what once was ridiculous acceptable, and eventually the enforced "norm." Just like "Occupy" made blatant class warfare "acceptable" among the coastal elites, and just like "equal marriage" shifted the narrative to mandated Celebration cakes. You don't want to nuke the ME because that would hurt us just as much with the total destruction of the gulf oil fields.
What you want to do is just retake the oil fields and then the primitives will all be totally neutered. Without control of the oil fields they stole, the arabs would interest people about as much as the hindus do. That would pretty much be the end of the arabs and the persians. One thing with the mustard gas incident. US doctrine on WMD use has almost always been that gas=germ=nuke. The world at large has always suspected that this doctrine was a bluff (which it was), but no one was willing to call the US on it. Now, JugEars has thrown that away, which actually makes chemical warfare against the US MORE likely. Fucking dumbass. Posted by: IllTemperedCur at September 30, 2016 03:20 PM (MjHtC) And the foolish leftists argued against US chemical or bio weapon stockpiles on the grounds that "We can always nuke anyway". I think they opposed tactical nuclear weapons for the same all-or-nothing rationale. All-or-nothing responses tend to lead to--nothing. Deterrence, to be credible, must be in kind.
And if they continued to cause problems then cleanup would be ridiculously easy with conventional weapons. Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair at September 30, 2016 03:26 PM (zc3Db) Well, if you carpet-bombed the ME with nukes, you'd take out all the oil infrastructure, and leave a bunch of burning wells spewing out oil and gas in a radioactive wasteland. But you could nuke some of the major cities, and military bases, and then march in and simply own all that oil. You could do it without nukes, too, but it would be a longer, tougher campaign with more casualties. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at September 30, 2016 03:30 PM (o9m/V) 234
I'm sure nukes generating the heat of the sun can make oceans of glass out of desert sand.
The fireball isn't all that big; not like the anti-nuke hysterics want you to think. An airburst, the fireball doesn't even touch the ground. Sure, radiant heat can ignite wooden structrues for 'some distance' but that is a lot lower temerature than that required to fuse silicon. The damage is done by the pressure wave of rapidly expanding atmospheric gases. The anti-nuke hysterics make it sound like a nightmare, which it isn't. For some values of nightmare. The US can absorb a few with only minor discontinuities from paniced anti-nuke hysterics. Posted by: W. Gnostic Fiddleslee Jr. at September 30, 2016 03:31 PM (va9fI) 235

Posted by: Hank at September 30, 2016 03:19 PM (1LTqH) ----------------------- Well, he cares about THAT. Leftists only care about foreign affairs to the extent that it helps them against their real (domestic) enemies. Sometimes it can be fun --- photo-ops in exotic locales, champagne suppers with international leftists who hate the US as much as American leftists do. But mostly it's annoying because you can't manipulate or control foreigners so easily. A lot of them don't even care if you call them racist! "Mahomet made the people believe that he would call a hill to him, and from the top of it offer up his prayers for the observers of his law. The people assembled. Mahomet called the hill to come to him, again and again; and when the hill stood still he was never a whit abashed, but said, 'If the hill will not come to Mahomet, Mahomet will go to the hill'." - Francis Bacon

What you're not understanding is that's how bad Bush left the Russia situation. Obama inherited these issues..and if not these exact issues, then their precursors, which Bush had screwed up so badly, 8 years of awesomeness had no chance to fix.
