The Morning Report 9/30/16 [J.J. Sefton]

HOT NEWS

We now resume our regularly scheduled post, already in progress:
What a horrible week (yeah, "ma-nish-tanah," right?). Well, at least it's Friday. Have a better one, at least until we lose the internet at the stroke of midnight. And speaking of Hebrew, L'shana Tovah to my fellow members-of-tribe in the Horde, and the rest of you gentle gentiles for a blessed and healthy 5777.

9 The India-Pakistan definitely seems to be heating up. Out of all of the places I expected WWIII to come from, that was actually pretty low on my list. I guess events can still be surprising sometimes.

I just hope we can sit this one out, and don't get pulled in to bail out the Pakis (because India is on Russia's side, and the Powers That Be seem to want to get us into a furball with Russia for some unknown, gawdawful reason.)

No. It would stay between Pakistan and India. China would have no interest or need to toss any nukes in there. There'd be little left to nuke. Nothing in Pakistan and India would be busy for the next 40 years.

Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair at September 30, 2016 06:48 AM (zc3Db)

13 Pakistan wouldn't last long in a fight with India. They're soft, that's why they resort to passive aggressive actions.

They don't want to win. They want to lose, so they can then try to send out scare-mails and fundraise for more money to "keep fighting against (issue here)" when they've already surrendered and lost the whole damn thing. They've figured out how to monetize failure and built careers of it. Succeeding is alien territory to them, and dangerous. Easier to stick with what you know. Lose, beg, lose, beg, etc.

    Ha ...

No, the subcontinent is not the Balkans. India and Pakistan happen to share a very restricted geography that could easily contain a few hundred nuke explosions without anyone even noticing. And if they want to nuke each other then that's up to them.

As I said, you aren't going to get rid of Pakistan's nuclear arsenal any other way. If it isn't used there it will eventually be used somewhere else. And India is game for a nuclear exchange with them. After 9/11, when they were screaming at each other and threatening to nuke each other (which W should have stayed out of) India said, "Go ahead, we can survive your whole arsenal but you can't survive ours." (Seriously - the defense minister, I believe, actually said that).

It's their game. Let them play.

It's either that, or they are actively working for the Democrats and trying to further their agenda. One or the other. Then again, the conditions are not mutually exclusive, so possibly both. You can't roll over and play dead as many times as they have, while being the "opposition party" without it being deliberate sabotage.

37 For a quick backgrounder on most events in former Mesopotamia, I always recommend T.E.Lawrence. Not that he's "right" about anything, but he certainly displays the mindsets that went into what we got and what it turned into.

Similarly, for India/Pakistan (and all too often /Afghanistan/"Kafiristan"), you need to read up on the history of "The Great Game." Because we're all playing it now.

You're assuming that that conflict stays localized. IIRC the 1970 Indo-Paki War that created Bangladesh and a lousy concert album was feared to spread into a wider conflict. And it's what drove the Pakis under A.Q. Khan to get nukes in the first place.

True the alliances are all different now, but without a very strong America to contain the fire - and with an emboldened Russia and China and the always unpredictable Norks, all bets are off.

Thank you SCOAMF and Hillary and Kerry!

As far as working with other people, you sometimes can't tell if what you did was fruitless. God can. 97 This was a refresher for me ... Clinton lie in the debate. She blames Iraq and Bush, of course. LIAR ... and a carefully plotted lie, Clintonian. Trump has to nail her on this stuff.

    repeat from my ONT

... pretty big lie by Clinton, since she actually manufactured the
condition where our troops allegedly would not have immunity. They
wanted out so Clinton demanded greater immunity than before, greater
than they have now. She demanded the parliament also approve it, which
    was always a no go.

"If only future debate moderators would ask her: What is the difference

in immunity offered by Iraq to U.S. troops in 2011 and today? And why

was that immunity not good enough then but good enough now?"

    So
she claimed we had to go, and blames Bush for setting that date (which,
duh, new president can set his own friggin date), then blames Iraq
government. A Clinton lie, they decided to boogey out, Hillary
manufactured the excuse. Maliki said "she wouldn't take yes for an answer".

Why did they leave 100s of Humvees for the JV
    ISIS?

137 Rasmussen has hillary and Trump in a virtual tie with hillary barely 1 point ahead in their latest poll. It was conducted after the debate so it shows hillary did gain from the debate. Trump was up by 4 two weeks ago.

One serious issue I have with their poll is they still show 20% undecided among likely voters. 25% of those said they would vote for Johnson if they had to make a choice. That is a huge number and is very suspect at this point after the first debate.

Going strictly on a faulty memory, so don't hold me to any details ...

Short answer - yes, the fall of the Shah. In 1979, Iran took the U.S. embassy. In 1989, Khomeini issued his fatwa against Salman Rushdie, directly attacking a key Western value. So the actual beginning of WWIII is fuzzy.

Just like WWII. When did it start? When Germany invaded Poland? When Japan invaded Manchuria? When Italy invaded whatever country it invaded after Mussolini took power?

The most recent Olympics was a triumph for the US - winning the most medals with a team brimming with a Benneton ad-worthy diversity. So many proud moments of Americans proudly singing the anthem, shedding tears as they received their golds (and silvers and bronzes) and praising their country.

202 I'm cautiously starting to believe some of the polls showing Trump ahead. If that is true and the trend continues the ruling classes will go into a frenzy the likes we have never seen. If they think he will win by more than the margin of fraud they will happily accept an assassination by an enraged lefty trying to save humanity. I just can't see the ruling class allowing Trump to win.

You all ever watch "COPS" on TV? I do, I guess because my Dad was a cop for 30 years. Over time, one thing I noticed is that out of all the people the cops deal with, blacks are the ones most likely to run, resist, fight with the cops, and oh yes, are most likely to be armed with a usually stolen gun.

Yet according to the statistics, you are more likely to be on the wrong end of an "officer involved shooting" if you are white or hispanic than black, despite the BLM lies promulgated by the MFM.

211 Imagine - there are many, many people - close to half, at the very least, who can look at headlines like those on today's Morning Report and adore the work SCOAMT has done. And adore him. And by extension, Hillary.

But thankfully for us, we have a hyper-effective opposition, clearly evident in at least two of the headlines, who are literally no worse than SCOAMT himself.

Look - the climate bullshit may be just that, but there is not a soul out there who doesn't see both the fan and the pile of feces oozing it's way toward it, getting bigger, more toxic, more deadly and smellier by the second.

If we don't find a way to wrest our governments - every one of them around the globe, or so it seems - out of the hands of powerful interests and megalomaniacs, we a taking a huge risk with our future.

If we can't figure out a way to work together on the problems facing us, we're finished - and try as I might to see where I am exaggerating, I just can't. We're in a lot of fucking trouble here.

What's interesting is that they are tying their political views to their products. This seems to be an unprecedented admission of their coordination w/the Dems to provide propaganda for DC.

One of Obama's legacies is his active recruitment of Hollywood to inject his latest policies into their plots, such as getting so many tv shows to promote Obamacare. That was more stealth than these franchises openly declaring "We're with her!", but a natural progression. Wonder if any of the Star Trek or Marvel people could correctly define "fascism".

265 The federal government won't let states require proof of U.S. citizenship before allowing people to register to vote.

    For all the obvious reasons.

Arizona passed a law years ago requiring proof of U.S. citizenship before registering to vote. Obviously, AZ is a border state, and thousands of illegal aliens live here and there is no question that they are also illegally voting here too. That is unfair to legal citizens voting in AZ, because too often their votes are neutralized by the votes of illegal aliens.

AZ tried to fix it by requiring people registering to vote to provide proof that they are U.S. citizens, and not just trusting them to be honest when they check the box to the question "Are you a U.S. citizen?"

Illegal aliens routinely lie about being citizens. And they do so because they know that no one is going to verify their citizenship. They also know (because they are routinely told this by the "community organizers" . . . cough LaRaza cough) who register them to vote, that if they are challenged about their answer, just say "I didn't understand the question." Because perjury is a specific intent crime, it is almost never prosecuted unless there is a confession of criminal intent. So long as they claim they misunderstood the question, or that they made a mistake in checking the "yes" box, they won't be prosecuted. So they know they can register to vote illegally, and vote illegally, with nearly a zero chance of ever being caught or prosecuted for it.

In 2013, the Supreme Court struck down AZ's law. But Scalia said the state could use a voter registration form that required proof of U.S. citizenship if it obtained the government's approval. The government has repeatedly refused to approve AZ's form. So illegal aliens can still register to vote illegally, and vote illegally, in federal elections in AZ.

338 I was prepared to be disappointed because Joel is heading up the reboot
and, frankly, I was never into him. He always seemed bored with the
show; like he was too cool for the room. I find him off-putting; I
didn't even watch the reunion show.

Rifftrax is still good and keeps the politics out of it. Kevin
Murphy is clearly a lib and can't help himself. But IIRC, Mike Nelson
hangs out with Jim Lileks and Hugh Hewitt.

I'll give it a chance. Some of my fondest memories of college was watching MST3K on a Saturday night while drinking some beers. (Yes, I had no social life, why do you ask?)
