Obama Administration In Yet Another Late Friday Document Dump: Oh By The Way, Not That It Matters, But Remember that Night Club Killer We Claimed Was Gay or Something...? Yeah Turns Out He Was a Super-User of ISIS Propaganda

Given that this information was almost immediately available to the Administration, but our law enforcement services covered it up for months and permitted false claims to proliferate, even the New York Times is daring to ask the obvious question:

The timing of this release, combined with past omissions, leads me to ask whether officials are stage-managing ISIS-linked attacks?

Nah. Go back to sleep, Little Tiger. You've got a big day tomorrow of chasing butterflies and lightningbugs.

35 >>>9 Battle Royale DirCut (2000) or Ant-Man (2015) ?

I saw Battle Royale for the first time five months ago or so.

It was interesting. Not just the movie; the movie was okay. But the SENSIBILITY of it.

You can see how different Japan is by this cultural product. There's this nasty undertone of the movie that would NEVER be permitted in an American release that these kids kinda-sorta deserve this and the audience is to take a kind of pleasure in most of their deaths.

Only in kinda outlaw productions like grindhouse movies do you have such anti-social, forbidden thoughts. "Could give people bad ideas," etc.

But i got the sense from this movie (possibly an incorrect sense) that Japanese movies allow such transgressive ideas.

Movie was okay.

There is no question the Hunger Games ripped off every inch of it.

AD is stealing my line - or, well, echoing one of my boring persistent thoughts and observations.

All this unbelievable stuff, all of it, is only possible because a working majority of the American people let it be so.

Ace keeps the heat and focus on the non-elite elites, and the pathetic class-conscious miniature people of the Beltway (a mindset, not a geography), and rightly so.

But it's your neighbor, your sister, your colleague, the guy on your softball team who make all of this possible.

I got that creepy feeling when rewatching Star B l a z e r s. As an adult, around 28ish. I think it was when I realised the Gamelons were the Roman Empire.

Posted by: boulder terlit hobo at September 28, 2016 09:07 PM (6FqZa)

77 the other interesting thing about Battle Royale is that, in the movie, 8th graders are put through this death-ordeal as a kind of ritual sacrifice to make amends for all their rule-breaking and Elder-disrespecting. And violence. And... truancy.

Anyway, so I had in my head a stereotype of the Japanese as pretty orderly and well-behaved, but this movie is making it seem like JAPANESE KIDS ARE HORRIBLE MANIACS WHO ARE TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL.

But like half of the kids were guilty of like chewing gum in class and shit.

I don't know. Like I said, the movie *beyond* the movie is interesting.

Interestingly enough, the Japanese Diet (Parliament type, not like rice and fish and stuff) condemned Battle Royale when it came out, but it ended up being super popular.

So I do think the kid angle made it a bit taboo even in Japan - they didn't raise any stink about, say, Ichi the Killer, which was just as violent, but the people dying were mostly adults.

103 35 >>>9 Battle Royale DirCut (2000) or Ant-Man (2015) ?

104 Also, the live action part - there's been way more fucked up stuff in anime, but it usually doesn't become controversial. Though Japan did try to crackdown on the pedophilic/hebephilic manga that has '18 year olds' that clearly have the body types of much younger girls.

hm. Okay. Well that makes it slightly less interesting I guess, that they deemed it taboo.

still, I don't think you could even mount a big money production like this in the US. It would just not be allowed -- technically we have free speech, BUT... there are institutional controls that say "NO."

Compare to the Hunger Games ripoff, where the kids are (mostly) clearly "Good" and the power structure doing this is clearly evil.

In Battle Royale, it's ambiguous- - and you're not allowed to be ambiguous in US movies involving violence. You must always teach Clear Moral Lessons.

One of my favorite anime is called Higurashi - When They Cry. All the female characters have different hair colors - red, green, purple, blonde. They did a live action version and didn't shell out for a wig budget, so they all just had black hair. I literally couldn't tell which character was supposed to be which.

Black Lagoon is great - also has some great Engrish. And a good 'grrl power' role model for the feminazis - Revy can hold her own with any of the male mercenaries in the show.

The DB universe is great if you just go into it expecting it to be typical shonen fare. It doesn't have deep messages or engaging plots - it has fun fights. Same with Naruto, Bleach, etc.

I like Goku, but he's basically Japanese Superman. Even has the whole 'last son of a dying planet' (well, almost last - there are other Saiyans floating around) and 'powered up by his newly adopted world' bits (again, not quite as directly - the Earth's moon allowed him to take his Oozaru form, but that was true of any planet with a moon). But he's a good "never say die" shonen anime protagonist - he believes in himself and believes in his friends. Definitely a good role model.

276 Another don't look now. Douche (Deutsche) Bank is on the verge of collapse. Their total exposure is some ridiculous amount which exceeds German GDP or something. Anyway their stock is tanking and the CDS prices on them are spiking.

Anyway, if Douche Bank goes down, as Zap Brannigan said, the whole house of cards will fall like dominoes or something. That will be another financial crisis, an implosion in Euroland with contagion fucking our own rickety banking system.

The whole system is being kept afloat by central bank and govt. shenigans, basically creating "believing the lie" that worthless assets are actually money good.

This might be the event that punctures that bubble and makes Wile E. Coyote realize he's actually stepped off the cliff. Or they may keep the lies and party going longer.

It's a blind samurai, except he's not really a samurai because of the caste system, but he's really good with a katana and also once a movie somebody calls him a blind bastard and that person never lives.

The guy who made and stars in all of the movies, Shintaro Katsu, was an inveterate gambler. He would lose all the money from his movies and then borrow some from a woman who ran a whorehouse, make a new movie, pay her back, and blow the rest again.

334 Have you seen Gankutsuou? The art-style is off putting to a lot of people, but I think it's a fantastic adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo. Manages to keep your attention even though it's one of those shows where if you know the source material, you know where things are heading.

Yes I own that one.

Give " Le Chevalier D'Eon" a watch, I like thought it's good too, like the twist with how Magic is used and they use a real life character.

Douche (Deutsche) Bank is on the verge of collapse. Their total exposure is some ridiculous amount which exceeds German GDP or something. Anyway their stock is tanking and the CDS prices on them are spiking.

345 When that information gets out there, no one cares. That ain't just Obama. That's a large portion of the American people.

That's a much tougher problem to fix, and it'll take a lot longer to do it.

This isn't fixable.

Posted by: Country Boy - Deplorable and proud of it[/]

It is, however, rather self-correcting in the longer term.

I heard the CNBC talking heads talk about it. Mainly so they could get an "expert" to reassure everyone that Trump is a danger to teh economy.

Btw sometimes Harold Ford comes on CNBC as a financial expert or something. It cracks me up.

355 This isn't fixable.

CB ... I say just the opposite. Not only fixable ... self correcting.

You, I, most others here ... know this is a bullshit propped up state of affairs. Not sustainable. And shitting our rhetorical collective pants because of how hard it's going to crash.

But when it crashes - it will correct. It sucks that the Nature of Man insists ... hell, DEMANDS ... that the crash occurs to create maximum pain and suffering to motivate enough people to change their behavior to change the collective culture.

But there it is. That's how it will go. How it must go.

In no small way - you and I are the suckers. Because we continue to waste our time and energy trying to divert the masses from the misery they must experience to enable change.
