Note: 1996's Miss Universe Winner Really Did Gain So Much Weight In Her Year of Reigning That Even CNN Had to Fat-Shame Her Ass

Hillary tossed this out in her last big Oppo File dump at the end of the debate -- that Trump had allegedly called a former Miss Universe "Miss Piggie" and criticized her for her weight gain.

So did CNN, at the time.

She'd gained 60 pounds during her year of reigning as Miss Universe -- obviously not the weight she'd won the contest at -- and apparently was in danger of losing sponsorships.

Apparently we've now reached that phase of Political Correctness and Fat Acceptance Celebration that even beauty contest winners, contractually obligated to, you know, look like the person who won the crown, can't be critiqued about their beauty.

Here's how mean Trump was:

"Some people when they have pressure eat too much. Like me. Like Alicia," said Donald Trump, the executive producer of the Miss Universe Pageant.

Defending her, that is.

Since winning the crown, the former Miss Venezuela went from 118 pounds to -- well -- a number that kept growing like the size of the fish that got away.

And as her weight grew, so did reports that Kellogg had canceled a deal for her to appear on boxes of Special K in Venezuela or that Kellogg modified her body on the box. But a Kellogg spokesman said the contract simply expired in December and that they were "real pleased" with the promotion.

"I don't eat Kellogg's and for this maybe I gain weight," the young Machado said simply.

Rumors also surfaced that she might be forced to give up her Miss Universe crown.

But Trump, as co-owner of rights to the pageant, said he would never let that happen. "We had a choice of: termination or do this," he said. "We wanted to do this."

The pageant's meaning of "do this" was for Machado to get her weight down to about 130 pounds. At a recent photo op, Machado -- hardly a blimp at 5-foot-7 -- pedaled a stationary bicycle and jumped rope in front of a pack of photographers and reporters who could themselves use a little training.

Apparently Trump mocked the reporters making an issue of this fat broad's weight:

"A lot of you folks have weight problems. I hate to tell you," Trump told the rowdy pool of reporters.

So let us all cry for the Miss Universe who got so fat she almost had her crown taken from her.

CNN did another story on the heavyweight Miss Universe, too.

So this was an actual thing and a point of embarrassment for the pageant (and for the woman herself).

By the way: This was twenty years ago.

16 Scott Adams has a good blog post up this morning that I think parallels Ace's thoughts last night and mine early this morning. Whatever the "score" on points was last night, Trump did what he needed to do to change perceptions. He demonstrated he wasn't a monster, thus giving many internal "permission" to do what they want to do, at least subconsciously, already, which is to vote for him.

30 Clear evidence of Trump's sexism and racism, of course. But it would have been worse if he didn't seek to help her and simply terminated her from the title, while mocking her to reporters. So those are the tautological choices - be gracious and we (liberals and current media, but I repeat myself) hate you, be terrible and we hate you.

It's almost like they would prefer anyone not like their hive mind would simply die off. Which is harder than it seems, since the hive mind clear changes over time (as this CNN article shows). Keep up with the playbook or be cut instantly!

Depends on where the weight was gained.

In fairness, she probably was at some sort of "fighting" weight when she won the title. IE, she was on a starvation diet and her weight that day was probably 10+lbs less than "normal". But, assuming she wasn't pregnant, gain of 60lbs is a bit hard to defend.

67 Listened to Kellyanne Conway this morning on F&F.

She said that 1. The campaign had predicted what questions would be asked and so none of the questions last night were a surprise. She said that she and other's had Trump practice having questions fired at him of all sorts, and he handled it well during debate practice.(I've read numerous posts here claiming that Trump didn't prep for this debate which is baloney).

2. She said that to respond to people complaining that this subject and that point were missed and why wasn't this brought up, etc. , that is what the campaign is responsible for between debates. She said Trump is on his way to Florida for an appearance today and will continue to bring up the points not brought up last night

3. She said Trump earlier this morning and now she wanted to say that(I can hear the collective screams from the Horde now) they felt "Lester Holt did a good job of moderating under very difficult circumstances."

Read what she is actually saying, that the vast majority of America knows also. Lester Holt was being told by NBC exactly what he could and couldn't ask or state about Hillary and the entire debate was slanted toward the Democrats, as they always are.
The Trump campaign knew this going in and the goal was to not fall for any traps. Which Trump didn't.

By the way, Trump again did something candidates never do after a debate. He and his family walked into the spin room with all the reporters and talked to all of them, one on one. Fox reporters were amazed.

I believe Hillary was hauled into her bloodmobile and treated on the way back to Chappaqua.

She had gained an estimated 40 pounds to 158. She was asked to shed 27 of those pounds or else lose her title as Miss Universe. That sounds like a lot, but she was 5'9" and weighed 118 pounds when she was crowned Miss Universe.

There are a lot of reasons why people eat too much, but the one fact that so many people seem to miss, is most of us on the planet have more then enough to eat. In other words, we're not starving.

In a historical perspective, that is an amazing accomplishment.

I too would like there to be discussions of much more weight matters in politics, but it is the culture we live in, this is what the majority of people discuss. They care about bruce jenner and his weird family more than what happened to Chris Stevens and the heroic fight at Benghazi. Unless its a movie, then they might talk about the explosions. A. Hillary stole Doc Brown's DeLorean and went back to 1973 to bash Trump over DOJ lawsuits.

Trump's response should have been: 1973? Was that before or after you were kicked off the legal team prosecuting the Watergate scandal on ethics charges?

So many whiffed opportunities. But like a lot of people have said, he didn't mortally wound himself, and he has shown a propensity for being a quick study. I expect his next debate performance to be much better.

142 It's too much to ask a guy like Trump to nail Clinton on all her corruptions especially in these rigged debate formats. In addition to not being the most articulate guy, he has the added burden of trying to win an election and not irritate delicate voting blocks while fighting two people at once.

Hillary always has that smug-faced fall back position that Comey said I'm innocent.

Even experienced an prosecutor, Gowdy had trouble dealing with her - shutdowns - I don't recalls. And she's a pro at deflections.

When it comes to Hillary we would all like to see an Andrew Breitbart or Christopher Hitchens type who's only concern was to go after Hillary on everything. Guys who know the facts inside and out and the ability to articulate them with sharp lightening speed. Because the volume of material alone is daunting to a novice like Trump.

190 so anyway:

Look, TV Bugs, I don't really care what you choose to watch on TV all day, as a passive spectator, watching other people stage-act life instead of living it.

No, I don't have much respect for the choice, but I also don't care about it much.

You are all officially free to watch all the wonderful, wonderful television you want.

And I am free to not follow you in your choice, and to decide that being active and engaging in life is more rewarding that watching electric pantomimes of it.

Sorry we're just gonna have to agree to disagree. You think television is a worthy use of your time.

I have no firm data on that. I don't know what your time is worth.

But I can say it is not a worthy use of MY time.

If you take that as a rebuke, well, we all get to make our choices, and we all get to have our opinions.

Is this the next phase of Social Justice Warrioring? People complaining that other people don't embrace their TV-based lifestyle?

Look, I'm out of the prison now and all I can tell you is it's better on the outside.

193 Trump didn't "disqualify" himself last night. He lost on "debate points." Doesn't that mean Trump won? He may have lost by conventional standards, but all that means is he was her equal who simply got bested on that night. That's basically a win for Trump because what it doesn't mean is he is completely "disqualified."

Note people use that term (disqualified) as if it has some grand meaning. I have probably used it to. But it is really a meaningless term.

The thing is this: Trump's performance last night was weak. He didn't do himself any good, but he fortunately didn't do himself any harm.

He sees himself a big-picture guy, and blows off details. That can be a good thing in a President where you have good underlings, but it can also be a big problem if you're being played by your own staff (see Reagan).

He was also far too easily baited into run-on answers to stuff like the birther questions that should have been answered with one brusque line and dead air until Holt figures out that's all he's going to get. Trump hates dead air.

I'm not a TV watcher either. Literally do not even own a TV anymore. But if there ever is something "really wonderful" on TV? Well, it's all recorded, somewhere. So if I become convinced I "have to" see it, I can stream it, or watch excerpts on YouTube, or buy a DVD from the remainder rack at WalMart. What I don't have to do is interrupt my life to sit down and watch a program as it airs. I might make an exception for the Grey Cup game, or the Super Bowl, in which case I might go to the local bar, and watch in the company of other, more knowledgeable sports fans, because, better that way.

You know, the team people claim he didn't have because he didn't prep for the debate.

It's a debate people. it's a staged, directed event. As KellyAnne and other's have pointed out, Hillary spent her debate prep time memorizing Democrat talking points written out on cards, and robotically repeated those lines, noticeable to all.

Trump, according to both Eric Trump last night and Kelly Anne this morning, spoke from the heart and from his belief system.

281 Trump didn't "disqualify" himself last night. He lost on "debate points." Doesn't that mean Trump won? He may have lost by conventional standards, but all that means is he was her equal who simply got bested on that night. That's basically a win for Trump because what it doesn't mean is he is completely "disqualified."

I heard Scott Adams (of Dilbert fame) say basically the same thing on the radio this morning. That on classic college debating scoring Hillary won. But Trump had to appear reserved, in control and go against the fly off the handle image that has been painted of him which he did so he thought Trump won the debate in that way

It really does. I moved to the East Coast in the late 70s, and was shocked by how fat people were compared to California, where were generally pretty fit.

When I moved back to California at the millennium, I was shocked by how fat people had become. Also, how liberal. Of course, that's in part because a lot of people from the Northeast had moved here in the intervening period.

Btw, the "high fructose corn syrup" thing is bullshit. High fructose corn syrup is 55% fructose (a sugar found most notably in fruit, of course), whereas sucrose (table sugar) is a disaccharide comprising equimolar amounts of glucose and fructose linked by a glycosidic linkage.

So whereas HFCS is 55% fructose, sucrose is 50% fructose. BFD.

it is slightly worse but there's another effect going on: HFCS is cheaper than sugar, and during the 70s and 80s, food companies started adding it into anything.

Plus, in the 80s, it was actually SOLD AS A HEALTH FOOD! A "healthy sugar!"

So chemically it is not that much worse than sugar. However, there was a whole cultural and economic experiment to get people to eat as much of it as possible.

Everyone criticized Bush for appearing on camera like" he is reading an eye chart" when he would speak. That included the debates.

Television debates are not debates, they are staged theatrical events designed to make one candidate(usually the democrat/liberal) look impressive. Substance is far down the list from the look, impression, stagecraft, appearance, etc.

I heard that last night was the anniversary of the very first televised debate, Nixon vs. Kennedy in which Nixon was sweating on camera due to lights and no airconditioning, and it destroyed Nixon's campaign. Not on substance, but because to the American public, Nixon looked like a terrified, incompetent boob.

And debates have followed the same formula ever since.

Yeah, people have this weird thing about "who lied to me the best" as the determining factor of debate victory.

Trump looked like a very real person who is sincerely and passionately concerned about our countries problems.

Hillary looked like smooth liar just trying to run out the clock so she can get back to her grifting.

Garret gave me good advice: Just go up one or two feet and traverse laterally for a while until I have some ability.

If I fall, it's a two foot fall.

I know ultimately it's dangerous, but whatever. I avoided physical activity for years fearing some kind of ACL strain (or whatever bullshit I used to justify inertness to myself) and I came out of that period being fat, sick, low energy, and with a welter of knock-on symptoms that all stem from being out of shape (social phobia, panic, sleeplessness, etc.)

Posted by: Ignoramus at September 27, 2016 12:17 PM (r1fLd)

339 Ace, I think the problem isn't the 20 year old, kinda frivolous story, but the fact that Trump can't give the defense you just offered, and instead digs the whole deeper in the next day's media. At one point he was setup by the moderator for a perfect slam dunk on Hillary's e-mail scandal, and he spent more time defending Russian hacking (while failing to even explain why Hillary's deleted e-mails were an issue to voters unfamiliar with the scandal). Trump uses vague sentences where he expects the audience to mentally fill in the blanks (or assume he could fill them in), which doesn't work for explaining why Hillary's complex scandals are scandalous to low info voters (they would have just heard that Hillary has some e-mails, which Trump thinks should be made public for some unexplained reason).

Trump's dysfunction, idiocy, and eagerness to step on every rake laid down in front of him are the story here, not Senorita Love Handles from 20 years ago. Considering that the top trending debate-related Google result was "registrar para votar", I would say Hillary was the one who did her job right at last night's debate.

Marshmallows aren't important you say? Well, what about camp fires and family traditions? This is a thing that happens Outside.

So, the point is that I was raised to roast marshmallows in the tradition of my people, which is that you brown the skin, pull it off and eat it, then brown the next layer and repeat.

When I was a wee lad you could get six or eight skins out of a 'mallow.

I tried to teach this to my own boys so that the way of our people could pass down lo unto the generations but we couldn't get more than two or three skins. So I checked the ingredients.

Yes, they're made of corn syrup now, not sugar. Corn syrup is destroying our American family values and sapping our vital bodily essences.

379 it is slightly worse but there's another effect going on: HFCS is cheaper than sugar, and during the 70s and 80s, food companies started adding it into anything.

Plus, in the 80s, it was actually SOLD AS A HEALTH FOOD! A "healthy sugar!"
So chemically it is not that much worse than sugar. However, there was a whole cultural and economic experiment to get people to eat as much of it as possible.
We're seeing the effects of that experiment now.

Agree. The food pyramids, etc.

I have been inundated recently on facebook with friends and family posting photos on their pages of their kids and their kid's friends posing for high school homecoming photos.

There has always been a few fat kids in school since time began. But I am shocked at the overall percentage of kids, particularly girls, who are obese in HS. Not just a little pudgy, but well overweight. Huge boobs, fat rolls and giant calves. Made worse by being wrapped up in tight, spandex material sheath dresses that show every bulge.

I was reading a bra shopping site the other day that said that in one decade the average bra size in the USA has gone from a 36 B to a 38 DD. I know the morons are applauding that, but you need to remember, that is not because women's boobs are singularly getting bigger, but they are accumalating fat along with the giant fat roll underneath them.
This site sells bras in sizes I've never heard of, such as H size cups.

Fructose sugar
Water
Ascorbic acid (a.k.a., Vitamin C)
Citric acid
Enzymes
Protein
Phosphate and bicarbonate buffers (bases)
Zinc

Can swallowing semen enrich a protein poor diet? Unless you're gulping gallons of it each day, it's no substitute for real nutritious cuisine!

I've tried to find a middle path...

I will watch a show if it jumps through a lot of hoops....

My family watches on average three and half shows a year.

This year will be four.

Elementary, Better Call Saul, Sherlock (next year) and Longmire.

BCS and Longmire are ~ 8.5 hours each.

so 17 hours plus 35 hours is what 51 hours or four sick days?

403 On debates, I remember Mitt Romney absolutely wiping the floor with Barack Obama during their first debate. That was probably one of the most lopsided political debates I've ever seen. It was so bad for Obama the press was making excuses for him. Romney still lost. I remember McCain soundly beating Obama during the first two debates. . .third one was closer (IMO still a McCain win, but barely). Again, didn't help McCain any.

People watch debates for entertainment, and they watch them to get some sense of the candidates. . . but I don't think anyone really decides who to vote for just based on the debate outcome.

Good for you for living life before your body shuts down some shut down sooner than others and it never should be taken for granted.

I'm blessed to have lived life pretty well the first 30 years. I played hard every chance I got. Unfortunately a severe nerve injury sidelined me and after multiple surgeries I'm blessed to be off opiods and controlling pain with breathing And controlling my environment.

I'm super pissed that at age 30 my active normal life would be cut short, but at the same time I'm glad I lived life the way I did for the time I had taking the idiot embarrassing moments with the good ones.

One day I hope to get out there again. I'm working towards it, but intractable pain and permanent nerve damage is a fickle bitch along with the wear and tear on my entire body.

Basically I'd rather have sown many many seed both good and bad than never to have sown any at all.

Life is grand. I pray. you begin to enjoy it and make up for any time you feel like you lost And missed out on. (Be careful climbing. I climbed for years and it can cause some major injuries and wear and tear so don't be a idiot like me and try to tough out any minor symptoms.... Go get checked out at a doctor asap.)

417 For those of you talking about Norway - Netflix has a few "slow tv" shows. One is 52 minutes of a train through Norway. Another is about the same amount of time about the cruise boat that goes up the Norway coast. Then there's just over 7 (yes) hours of a camera attached to the front of the train going through Norway. It's so un-edited that when the train goes through tunnels there is just black screen. They are nice and put a graphic on the screen saying how long the tunnel is.

My buddy and I drove to Alaska through Canada in the spring of 1987, and every night of the trip we were treated to some of the most spectacular Northern lights seen in decades. We saw them as far south as Great Falls, Montana, and they were visible all night as we drove into Alberta. Beyond description. And we saw them again in the Yukon, which was kind of spooky, because we seemed to be alone in the world. No towns, very few cars on the road, nothing but nature.

I got sucked in during one of AMC's marathons while laid up with the flu. You know when you have the flu and have so little energy you can't even change the channel? First one that got me was I think it was the 4th ep of season 2 when Jessie tries to break the Crystal Ship out of the junkyard and falls through the Porta-Potty.

After 3 or 4 eps in a row, I was hooked for the rest of the run. Don't have cable anymore though.

Churchill, Manitoba has been cited as a good viewing point, based on its position relative to the north magnetic pole, which wanders around. No, it does not have to be extremely cold to see them. The aurora occurs very high in the atmosphere, where it's almost a vacuum, and ground-level temperatures don't affect them. But a cold winter night is the best time to see them, because, first, longer hours of true darkness, and second, clear nights with no cloud cover tend to be cold.

Best Northern Lights I ever saw? Rainbow Lake, Alberta, 1980-something. But I saw some ho-hum ones this Saturday night while on the road, and there have been a couple of displays with reasonable brilliance this August and September at my home, around Lat 51 N.

You need a solar flare to create the charged particles that cause an aurora. Then you need to be in a northerly place with clear skies and darkness, X number of hours later when the stream of charged particles hits our atmosphere. So it's a crap shoot. And our Sun has been lazy lately.

Investment levels vary person to person and within the person over time.

463 By now I am sure that most people are aware that, once again, the Clinton campaign failed to bother to research and it is a fact that Miss Venezuela has been making porn films, appearing as a pole dancer, exhibiting her mammaries in Mexico's Playboy magazine, threatening judges in her native land, and was likely not invited to make her debut at the Maracaibo Country Club.
