I mentioned to a friend on Sunday that the left would be pushing this False-Flag conspiracy theory.
I was right. (Of course.) But what I did not predict was that it would come from a "Reporter," and one allegedly "covering" Hillary Clinton.“Are you concerned that this weekend’s attacks or potential incidents in the coming weeks might be an attempt by ISIS or ISIS sympathizers, or really any other group, maybe the Russians, to influence the presidential race in some way, and presumably try to drive votes to Donald Trump, who is, as you’ve said before, widely seen as perhaps being somebody who they would be more willing to—or see as an easier person to be against?” she asked.Note this is the same leftist media that blows a gasket over any conspiracy theory emanating from the right -- but they're curiously open to Trutherism (at least the softer variety) and never tire of spinning their own conspiracy theories. Madeleine Albright, for example, told Mort Kondracke "Yes, I've heard that" when he mentioned the left's belief that Bush had already captured bin Ladin and planned to trot him out in handcuffs just before the 2004 election. Two things that counter it:

In 2012, people knew who was winning the battleground states just on the basis of requested/turned in early ballots. Hillary has a gigantic ground game in NC, dwarfing the puny effort Trump put in.
So many of the comments/snark here are exactly what people did when polls showed Obama winning. The samples were skewed, the pollsters lie, etc. I don't know why Republicans have such a hard time accepting reality. Dems in 2014 weren't happy with the Senate polls in battleground states, but they never said they were wrong. The criticized their candidates and told them what they thought they should do to improve, but they didn't deny the obvious loss they were going to suffer.

At the time she and her handlers made a big deal about her being able to make it through the hearing, 11 hours or whatever it was. I found her claim annoying, since I and I am sure many others here have often had to work long hours even all-nighters to meet a deadline.
But now I see why it was such an accomplishment for her. They were scared to death she was going to have a freeze/seizure event on camera and it was a gigantic relief when she didn't.

I'm with Mr. Jen. And it is remarkable. I'm a woman, I wear makeup, and it doesn't seem possible to go from looking like she did on Sept. 11, to looking like she does in the video above. Or like she did 90 minutes later on Sept. 11.
I was amazed at how bad she looked before she fell ill on Sept. 11. I'm not trying to be snarky, but her hair was really horrible (for a presidential candidate) and she looked a complete mess. You could tell she was ill even before she keeled over.

I thought the same thing, I was shocked at how she looked like she had been up all night and hadn't had a shower or washed her hair in days. She looked like she had been locked in a closet for a week. It was stunning her staff let her show up like that, but I imagine trying to advise her of anything is futile and possibly life threatening.

Two weeks ago, we traveled from SC to OH, going through NC, TN, KY. Then turned around and went home to SC, but went OH to KY, TN, GA then SC. It was a hellish 1300 miles we went in a weekend. During the whole trip, we saw 0, none, zip, nada Hillary anything...no stickers, no signs. I saw two Trumps, one giant Trump billboard and 2 Bernies. Anecdotal, but in all those miles, NO Hillary anything.

I have seen a number of polls mentioned here and there showing that while Trump has closed the gap, Clinton always manages to be at least slightly in the lead. Many roll their eyes and say "Oh those polls are weighted in the Dems favor" and the polls are inaccurate because many fear to admit they will vote Trump.
And we also know the press is loathe to report stories of election fraud.
Now we know that should Clinton win, we will hear a large chorus of the press will say "Told you so", so, my question to the Horde: Are the polls faked to help cover for democrat election fraud?

One thing you see in Clinton vs Trump polls, and this is going back to the primaries, is that Trump goes up, Clinton goes up too. Or if Clinton goes down, Trump goes down. This is very atypical behavior for two person polls. Typically if one goes up the other goes down or vice versa. It's almost as if a thumb is on the scale.

And since some are presumed to be poisoned, and we can't tell them apart, we should just keep them all out.
People really aren't indistinguishable from each other, they are unique individuals. I personally can see how I might get upset if someone tried to say "oh, you professors, you're all atheist marxists, you're all the same".
I doubt that there is this level of deep thought associated with much of the wailing and gnashing. A lot of it, probably most of it, is just throwing a fit against Trump. But I can see how there might be some legitimate cause for objection.

He's a decent guy and it stinks to have such a pathetic candidate at the top of the ticket dragging him down like an anchor and letting Russ Feingold back in the Senate. I understand the voters being attracted to Trump's candidacy at the beginning. Heck, I liked that first "build a wall" immigration speech that really propelled him into the top-tier. But other than that issue, he sounded like a moderate Democrat and polls showed he was the one guy that Hillary would soundly defeat. In WI, Rubio and Kasich would easily have won and Cruz was tied, according to the MU Law Poll.
And I wonder if Trump is even trying to win. He gains ground in the polls due to Hillary's collapsing, and what does he do? Goes into the weeds again with the ridiculous birther nonsense and gives her all the momentum back. What kind of candidate ALWAYS lets his opponent off the hook just when he looks to be surging?

The movement WAS in Trump's favor. The newest polls (national and battleground state) have shown him fading.
I know everyone here loves the LA Times tracker because that's Trump's best poll. The respondents don't change, so it's not a great predictor of final result, but it does show trends that other polls pick up. Trump was up over 7 pts and has had a couple awful polling days, which resulted in his lead falling to 5 points. As his good days fall off the sample, he will likely lose more and more ground in the coming days. All because of that Birther bullcrap.

But there is a part of it that really is somewhat objectionable.
It basically is saying that Syrian refugees are indistinguishable from each other from our point of view, like pieces of candy.
And since some are presumed to be poisoned, and we can't tell them apart, we should just keep them all out.
People really aren't indistinguishable from each other, they are unique individuals. I personally can see how I might get upset if someone tried to say "oh, you professors, you're all atheist marxists, you're all the same".
I doubt that there is this level of deep thought associated with much of the wailing and gnashing. A lot of it, probably most of it, is just throwing a fit against Trump. But I can see how there might be some legitimate cause for objection.

See I agree the system is effed up. Because DHS is this monstrous bureaucracy which exists seemingly only to perpetuate its own budget and cares rather little about effectively performing its job.
I think the solution is to reform it so that it actually does its job. And by "reform", I mean "tear it down to the studs and then only add back the absolutely essential tasks necessary".
And I think one of these essential tasks ought to be to vet the applications of asylum seekers and refugees. They don't just come from Syria you know, lots of people from all over the world come here claiming asylum. Someone has to take a look at those with a very critical eye. Out of caution if it ends up being that we don't let in marginal cases, then I am okay with that result.
But the skittles analogy says to me that we *can't* vet potential refugees, just like we evidently can't detect if some skittles are poisoned, and so we should not even bother trying. Just keep them all out. I think that's the lazy solution, personally, and won't fix the real problem which is how to vet any asylum seeker or refugee applicant.

I will tell you what, Burt. I have not changed nearly as much as you think I have. I have always been an individualist. I have always sought to respect the dignity of the individual. I have always found concepts like collective guilt to be horrible. But the denizens of the HQ, they *have* changed, and not by a little. I actually remember, I think it was sometime in 2011 or so, I had a discussion here at the HQ regarding some recent Islamic jihadist event, and some people spoke up and had some ideas like "hey, maybe we should deport all the Muslims", "hey, maybe we should nuke Mecca", "hey, maybe we ought to wage total war on them, killing their women and children too", but these ideas got met with a significant amount of pushback from other Morons. That maybe not all Muslims are terrorists, that maybe we should not be bombing holy sites of another religion, that maybe we shouldn't sacrifice fundamental liberties while waging a war on terror. As you might expect, I was on the latter side of that argument. But nowadays, if anyone even dares to suggest such a thing, they are shouted down as some sort of terrorist sympathizer. The HQ has definitely moved very far in the direction of condemning Muslims collectively as guilty of terrorism, or at least enabling terrorism, and this is manifested in a small way with the Syrian refugee controversy. Many of the Morons who agreed with me in 2011 have long since left, and they have replaced by others who are of the "kill all the Muslims" variety.
What has changed about me, is how I react to it all. You are right that I don't always keep my cool. I do get upset when a place I like is being filled up with people whom I regard as having some very unconservative beliefs. I don't always show that displeasure in a dignified way. I'll admit that. Since I have seen what much of the HQ has become, I am more skeptical of the arguments I see here, and I am less willing to give the benefit of the doubt to the person making the argument. And yes, Trump does piss me off to no end. But my core values and my core beliefs have remained largely unchanged.
And just blanket accusing me of being mentally ill is a cheap shot and beneath you. Or should be, anyway.

A lot of people on the right seem to have discovered that rage, emotional validation, and a persecution complex are more rewarding then standing for abstract principle and refusing to copy the enemies illegitimate tactics. The left found all this out a while ago.
Maybe this site will go back to the way it used to be after the election. Maybe Trumpism is just a bump in the road here and in the wider Conservative movement.
