Rick Perry appeared on "Dancing with the Stars" Monday night partnered with Emma Slater for a cha cha set against a carnival backdrop to the tune "God Blessed Texas." Perry earned a total of 20 out of 40 points. It was the lowest out of the show's 13 couples.

Perry was unfazed by the reception. "This is crazy good. This is as good as it gets," he yelped at the end of his performance.

"Crazy" Eddie Antar changed the way electronics were marketed.

On the plus side, he made electronics, especially the nascent VCR, affordable to all and created a dynamic franchise model.

On the down side, he did the above by selling factory re-manufactured goods as new, created the most annoying ad campaign ever and embezzled investors out of millions.

At the same time, he reinforced some nasty stereotypes about Jews/Israelis.

So, condolences to his family.

In military news, The Navy(tm) is taking another mulligan of the disastrous LCS "frigate" program.

Tossing most of the purported benefits, like reduced crewing, increased deployment and task flexibility. Also turning 4 of the 6 ships currently in the water into full-time training and r-and-d ships. That would be 20% of the currently planned total ship procurement being turned into permanent harbor queens.

Posted by: Nevergiveup at September 13, 2016 08:21 AM (zp+j1)

Exactly. I've been thinking about this. The fun of sports is that it is (ideally) a harmless outlet for our tribal instincts. The Packer fans hate the Bears, the Red Sox fans hate the Yankees, the Dodger fans hate the Giants and so on. But except for a few asshats who get into fights and beat up visitors with "enemy" jerseys on, it's understood that it's in fun. It's also understand that the players on your team are like mercenary soldiers. Their job is to play as best they can for whoever is signing their paychecks.

That tribalism means that people of all sorts of backgrounds, educational levels and political beliefs can get together for a few hours to cheer their team at Lambeau or Wrigley or wherever. For the time being, you are all part of the same tribe.

Players used to understand that and keep their mouths shut about politics - at least until they retired.

Bringing politics into sports means that they are now dividing those fan bases. It's a great way to wreck people's fun. I can see what the SJWer want to do that. It's what they do. It's the NFL idiots who go along with it - braindead Goodell - that are so eager to be "relevant" that they can't see what they're doing to the sport they supposedly love.

Israeli tactical air doctrine of long standing is to have a stack of crewed aircraft and drones, with the latter operating at low altitudes.

Going all the way back to the huge and epic Bekaa Valley air battle, the Syrians are notorious for shooting down the nearer drones, and subsequently believing that they nailed an Israeli jet.

The Russians appear to be copying the Israeli model nowadays.

Don't leave home without it.

When I was in corporate life, my best friend and fellow vice president were on a business trip in Spain when he suddenly died. We both had Platinum cards.

I had his body taken to a Spanish funeral home and they wanted $10,000 to take care of the details. Cash. I called AE and asked them to have 10K available for me to pick up at their Allicante office the next day. First, they did their best to see if I was in trouble and asking for the money under duress. After explaining the situation, they took over.

AE paid for everything. Paid the funeral home, bought the casket, flew the body home, took him to the local funeral home. A special AE representative called me daily (for the two weeks it took to get the proper paperwork to bring the body home) and handled everything I asked.

Sure, things like this don't happen often, but it sure was helpful when it did.

An interesting case has been put forth for a DX of progressive supranuclear palsy. That wouldn't show intentional tremor. But it would be consistent with her other "freezing and seizing" episodes. And with her tendency to aspirational pneumonia.

169 >> After explaining the situation, they took over.

Wow. Tough situation for you.

They helped me out of a jam back in the day. I left my wallet at my mom's house and got on a plane. My step-father noticed before my mom even got home from the airport, called them, and while my plane was on a stop over, got a message to me that some cash would be waiting for me at my destination.

Nothing like having a situation handled before you even know there's a situation!

Apparently an RN. The story is that they called Bardack from the motorcade after Hillary's normally hilarious sack of potatoes impression didn't go over well.

172 Mornin' all. Listening to anything athletes are talking about other than their sport specialty seems to be remarkably silly. Although I have read that offensive linemen are the smartest people in the NFL. Interestingly enough, John Urschel, Ravens, was accepted into MIT PhD program in math. He is someone I would listen to about either math or football.

Old MSM talking point: strong woman defies pneumonia to work for the public good and take picture with adorable prop girl.

(Oops!)

New MSM talking point: pneumonia is harmless. It might even be good for children.

Posted by: Ripley at September 13, 2016 08:33 AM (1BQGO)
The thing is, the pneumonia is so effing contagious most of the Demtards are saying they also have pneumonia, which makes the "little girl on sidewalk" scene much more ghastly. Highly contagious.

"Massive organ failure" is what the Spanish coroner said. He was an alcoholic who spent time at the Betty Ford Center and was sober for the year previous to his death. The doctor at Cedar Sinai Hospital in L.A. where I took him previous to Betty Ford (they wouldn't check him in until he had "dried out") told me not to bother, that he was going to die anyway, but he seemed to be doing fine.

There was once a time when athletes, artists, actors and musicians were all considered to occupy an inferior social stratum, and anyone who proposed listening to an opinion from any of them on any substantive topic would have been laughed out of the room.

I give you our present society as an example of why this was thought to be required.

190 LOL, I know that Ace and a lot of the Morons hate Nickolas Cage, but that is one of my favorite movies.

What I like about Nicholas Cage is that he never winks at the audience no matter how crappy the movie is.

He is invested 100% in the character.

You may disagree with his acting choices but he's always trying to give the viewer their money's worth.

Even a huge piece of high budget grindhouse schlock like "Drive Angry",

Cage is in it all the way and that makes it one of my top guilty pleasures.

He is absolutely hammering 'illary over the "deplorables" and "irredeemable" comments.

He brought it up in the unscripted part at the beginning.
The people he brought on stage brought it up.

And how he is using it is even more effective than his ad.

Even smarter is the way they're not falling for the media traps where they're dragging out David Duke and insisting they call him deplorable.

249 And it becomes clear that the "deplorables" was to be a coordinated attack on Trump.

Step 1: 'illary gives the speech; quietly rallies her extreme radical base.

Step 2: Media runs with the line and helpfully adds context that she's right by showing any fringe they can find, painting them as the main of the Trump support

Step 3: Media corners Trump campaign, shoves the fringe in their face and demands agreement that they are "deplorable."

Step 4: (because traditionally, the Republican would fall for Step 3)
Media runs non-stop stories about the crazy fringe they've painted as the main of Trump's support, now with added clips of even the Trump campaign denouncing them.

------
Instead, Trump flips the script and starts asking the Dems to identify which of his mainstream, everyday Americans are "deplorable?" Which military supporters are "deplorable." Which of his black supporters? Which of his Hispanic? Women? Men? Etc.

Note how mightily the media is straining to get back on the 'illary script.

@146 jwest How long ago was that incident? We stopped using AmEx because of an exact opposite situation. While active duty AF, a friend was killed in a helicopter accident. Another friend was assigned to assist his wife (who was expecting their first born and also an AF officer). He contacted AmEx, explained the issue and told them there was going to be charges on their card -which was their only credit card. The rep immediately cancelled the card and told our buddy that the wife would need to apply for the card in her name only and it would take a few days to process, but they would try and expedite that...This was in the run up to Desert Storm.

The squadron got together and paid for the expenses until she was reimbursed from the Govt. And we all tore up our AmEx cards. Haven't had one since.

Good for the draftee. And I was a bastard for saying Hell No. Selfish, unwilling to accept the necessary honorable sacrifice, and all that.

What's the difference ? Because the only difference I see is that, since Eleanor R sez it about a civil service draft it must be bad. But if we're talking about that incorruptible paragon of truth, justice, and the american way - the military - then supporting it with a draft must be good.

Like I always say ... most Republicans and Democrats differ on the Ends. But the Means ... in the case forced service to the State ... not so much.

328 All goose-bumpy over Franklin's ship HMS Terror. "Lord Franklin" is one of the finest of the broadside ballads, and a mark of how treacly sentimental the real Victorians got over manly things. More explorers died trying to find Franklin's expedition than the number that were actually on the expedition. And they lined up to go. There lies the port; the vessel puffs her sail...

It rather set a pattern for British heroic exploration: gaping flaws in the plan, things going tragically wrong that they probably should have foreseen, yet, iron men, wooden ships, and brass balls all 'round, and they came this--><-- close to making it. "For God's sake take care of our people."

331 Misanthropic, the cryptic headlines are funny, but you can't really tell what they lead to, and I don't know whether I want to click on them some of the time. (Also, I don't have the time to click on all of them). It might help to follow up your headline with a piece of the actual headline or something. Just a suggestion.

Looking forward to the next poll coming out Thursday, and the time period of the poll will capture, at least in part, the health issues.

337 This is why I don't fear a Biden Maneuver. She holds a nuclear option that will obliterate the party if she exercises it, in the form of having The Dirt on absolutely everyone in the Dem-Left Complex. If they try to yank her, or if something happens to her short of the election, there will be a doc dump the likes of which God hasn't seen--and there are enough loyal Clintonites in the media that it will get out.

Posted by: Brother Cavil, deplorably down with Eph 6:12-13 at September 13, 2016 09:45 AM (9krrF)

I don't believe this for a second when it comes to the Clinton's. They will broker a deal, and they will remain protected and provided for, and be held up as martyr's for the party. No way they don't negotiate the deal of a lifetime, for them and Chelsea.

338 Now this may really be an off-the-wall thought about Comey and his 'intent' spiel, but some members of Congress are working on a way to codify which laws require intent to avoid the average person being charged with some obscure Federal crime that nobody could ever know anything about. Maybe Comey was instructed carefully on the 'intent' in Clinton's various transgressions by his bosses at the DOJ.

Yea, well one of the reasons they cost so much is the original brief called for 32 of them but that is now down to 3. Kind of tough to spread those costs.

The incident happened in 1997.

After everything happened, I read up on what AE will do. The service they provided was restricted to Platinum Club members, along with covering all expenses for emergency medical care overseas, helicopter or private jet medivac and all expenses in case of death overseas (apparently if your trip was booked through Platinum Club Travel, which we used).

There was also a provision for kidnapping, but I don't remember exactly what that covered.

Yep. To all those who say that any other candidate would be beating Hill like a rented mule right now: I can easily imagine Rubio/Jeb and even Cruz spokesmen rushing out to play defense once again, "We are NOT racists, except the ones who are and we join with the Dems and the media in denouncing them!"

351 Thanks for the response jwest. I think this was around 1990-91 or so. I was curious if they had changed their corporate image. Pretty sure they didn't have "Platinum" membership on their Captain salaries... Understood that premium perks exsist, but we were shocked at their lack of empathy. I don't remember if we sent them our cut up cards, but we did discuss doing that.

Kinda cynical, but companies bent over backwards after Desert Storm to help out military members, but before..not so much.

356 Anyone who doesn't think any other GOP candidate would not be trouncing Hillary now is just not paying attention. Rubio snd Kasich were already polling ahead of her during the primaries and Cruz was tied. Only one candidate polled horribly against her and his losing name is Donald Trump. Congrats GOP primary voters! You nominated the one and only guy who had no chance of winning. I'll vote for him because he might be better on judges but he has no chance in hell of winning.
