1 Good Morning Morons. Today is Saturday, September 10, 2016. On this day in 1955 the television series Gunsmoke premiered on CBS. It was one of the longest running TV shows ever; going until 1975. The original show was much more gritty that what it was when it finally ended. It had become more PC and "kinder and gentler" by the time it finally shut down. IOW, whoreywood turned it into just another "message show" and screwed it up but it was still a fairly popular show when CBS cancelled it without telling the cast. What a bunch of assholes. Hey toads, read it in the papers, you're fired.

2 Scankles' internal polls must be really tanking because she is pulling out all the stops while pandering to blacks that she MUST have. But why she did this particular speech at a gay center in NYC is questionable. Worst campaigner in history I still say. If it were not for the MFM she would be toast.

The former secretary of state, who described her own remarks as grossly generalistic, said Trump had bolstered people who are racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic, you name it. She did add that Trump's other supporters are frustrated by hard times and merit sympathy.

3 And the Trumpsters are quick to make use of this stupid gaffe. Of course I shouldn't call it a gaffe since it was written into her speech.

4 The corrupt Obamanites at the FDA have used Obama's pen and phone to now regulate ALL tobacco products as a drug and forbid free samples to anyone. So look out c-rats packages, no more of those small packs of cigarettes, although I think the "new PC" Army got rid of those long ago.

8 So Fox is "conservative" right wing say the critics. Here is Dr Manny excoriating congress for lack of funding and action on Zika. No mention of the fact that this is what the CDC is supposed to be for but their funding has been illegally raided by Obama for other actions not approved by congress. He has still not accounted for millions in funding that was authorized for Ebola. And not only that, no mention of the fact that Republican in the House have approved a bill for Zika but it is being blocked in the Senate by Democrats who keep changing their mind on why they are blocking it. IOW, Dr Manny is in the tank for the Dems and Obama.

Well toads, you can't keep manipulating the polls forever and you liberal assholes used up all your credibility in 2008 with Obama so you alone can not carry her. And that doesn't even allow for the fact that she is the worst campaigner in history and belongs in jail instead of the oval office.

32 Government has been interfering in computer design for a long, long time. Ever notice that EnergyStar logo on your equipment? That was a program that was voluntary but so many procurement specs required it as to make the voluntary nature a joke.

The original initiative was misunderstood. While turning off CRTs on inactive PCs saved some energy, the big win was in reducing the heat output from an office building full of screens showing flying toasters to nobody. (Did you know that MoveOn.org was created by the couple who got rich off those flying toasters?) This in turn created a substantial added load for air conditioning systems, which is what they were actually tracking. This became less of an issue as flat panel displays became the norm and really reduced the power draw of the average desktop system.

Still, it got the government foot in the door and the IT industry got used to following an ever lengthening list of requirements cooked up by the government for how computers should work in regard to power consumption. As if competing companies wouldn't seek advantages in operating costs to promote to customers otherwise.

69 Good morning, another day in the salt mine.

Gunsmoke is a favorite, whether tv or radio.

Radio's Matt Dillon was played by William Conrad, who later played the fat detective Cannon on TV.

Howard McNair had a role as Doc on radio, and he later played Floyd the Barber on Andy Griffith. Later in that series he suffered a stroke and in later episodes he was featured sitting in a chair with no lines to keep him on.

I'm tiling a bathroom and the old bones are hurting. Filthy work too, but I'm enjoying the precision. After today, I'll be ready for a break. I don't think I can do too much more ceiling work in one stretch.

117 shoo-fly pie is a baked molasses or golden syrup pudding.

You cut 1 C of flour, 3/4C of brown sugar and a good tablespoon of shortening or butter together until they are crumbs, then reserve about a half of the crumbs and stir in 1 C of molasses into the other half

Then you do my favorite act of Kitchen magic, and boil 3/4C of water in the microwave, and add in 1 tsp baking soda so it foams up wildly to make soda water.

Mix the hot soda water in with the molasses mixture, test it to make sure it is not too hot, and then stir in one egg (if the mixture is too hot the egg will start to cook)

Pour the egg-molasses mixture into a pie tin and cover with the crumbs you reserved.

Bake 10 minutes at 375F and then 30 minutes at 350F

Posted by: Kindltot at September 10, 2016 07:37 AM (e9hKK)

118 Ricardo, unless they are sugar maples you wouldn't get sap anyway. Plus they run in early spring, when there's usually still snow on the ground. Doubt you'd get that cold in Texas.

Or are you talking about something different?

And molasses is from sugar cane anyway.

138 The sap from sugar maples is boiled down to make maple syrup and maple sugar (less commonly).

Regular sugar, or cane sugar, is made from sugar cane. White sugar has the molasses separated out; brown sugar has molasses in it.

Real maple syrup is that good stuff on pancakes. Molasses is that good stuff on Cracker Jack.

And there are lots of other maple tree varieties besides sugar maple. We have about 4 or 5 maples, none of them sugar alas.

184 Ricardo -

From Southern Living (where all good recipes come from):

Pecan Pie

1 cup sugar
1 cup light corn syrup
1/3 cup butter
4 large eggs, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust
1 1/4 cups pecan halves

Combine first 3 ingredients in a medium saucepan; cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves and butter melts. Remove from heat; let cool slightly.

Stir about a cup of the hot mixture into the bowl with the beaten eggs (so your eggs won't scramble), then dump all that back into the rest of the butter/sugar mixture. Add the vanilla and salt.

Pour filling into pie shell, and top with pecan halves (I put them in a swirly design, but you don't have to!). Bake at 325 for 50-55 minutes or until mixture is set.

Let cool completely before slicing. You can warm it up before you slice it if you want; as long as it's cooled completely it first it should still hold its shape.

I have a link on my bar for them and I have been thinking seriously about moving to them because WU has gone to AGW Hell. I liked WU because they had all kinds of local people around here with weather stations that were feeding them over the internet so you could always get some good readings.

The used to tell what kind of equipment each station had but they quit doing that. Some of those were quite expensive professional rigs. I am sure the people who had them complained about them giving the type of rig and its location. That is open invitation to thieves.
I used to have a pretty good rig mounted on a tall pole in my backyard. But over the years the mounting hardware got brittle (plastic) and a heavy wind storm blew it down and it broke apart. I now just monitor temps and humidity with less elaborate rigs closer to the ground.

Those temperature sensors are always the first thing to go. Its really aggravating. But one thing I have found as they get older as they are really sensitive battery voltage.

If you change the batteries and find that the unit still will not synch in to the outdoor sensor first move the sensor close to the monitor and if that doesn't work try putting fresh batteries from the store in the sensor. I found that even "new" batteries that had been in the drawer for a few months sometimes were down enough that it would not synch.

246 I see lots of Hellary bumper stickers but very few Trump, but then again I spend a lot of time in NoVa.

I am a native of there and it was, until fairly recently, pretty conservative.

I saw a news story about Loudoun County, fastest growing county in the US, and where the people--mostly young--are coming from.

Bay Area, NYC, Philly and Boston top the list.

249 Wow, Jinx, that actually sounds kind of nice. Believe it or not, I've never actually been to the Northern Neck.

But, I am planning a trip out there one day this fall with my son to see Stratford Hall and GW's birthplace. We homeschool and it's American History this year (and a separate American Government class too) and I plan on taking him to lots of places because we have a pretty free schedule.

254 Bluebell, my daughter is doing Louisiana history this year. I figure we'll start with the 3000 year old archaeological site: Poverty Point (which is a World Heritage Site).

Except that it's still too hot to actually go there...but she read about it...

257 Stratford Hall is a real gem. GW's birthplace is a delightful fraud and is almost next door and has a nice heirloom animal collection.

There was no building at GW's birthplace when they made it a NM, so they built a modest colonial house based on the one the mother of the Park Service Superintendent lived in.

Don't forget Gunston Hall in So. Fairfax County along Rt. 1. The home of George Mason, who gets credit for our Bill of Rights.

258 127 There are two ways of shoo-fly pie recipes. A more solid cake form and a gooey form with a more soft between the crust and top half cake area. Both are very good.

259 Mama AJ, Louisiana has some great stuff. I love that as homeschoolers we can pretty much go where we want, when we want.

This son is my youngest and he was in a stroller when we did all kinds of great field trips with my older ones. We did far fewer as the older kids started taking community college courses when they were old enough.

He is 16 and probably won't take any community college classes until next year, so I figure this is a great year to get lots of trips in. We have a co-op day on Tuesdays, and I teach math on Thursdays, but we can arrange the other days to suit us.

Thanks. Most of my issues are PC related. Sometimes it just stops uploading for unknown reasons, sometimes the RS232/USB converter that connects to the station decides it's a mouse. The sensor issues are that they just plain died. It's time to buy a new system.

263 My bride (well, once upon a time she was) is a Democrat, and she hates Hillary. Benghazi did it, or more specifically, that moment when Hillary stood in front of the widows and families of the dead and promised to "get" the video guy. That pissed my wife off to no end, and now every single time Hillary talks my wife is convinced its all lies.

She hates Trump too, because blowhard, but she's probably going to close her eyes and vote for him (if he can manage not to piss her off between now and election day). She really, really does not want Hillary to win.

_____________

Been there! But we are going back this year because he was too young to remember.

I know GW's birthplace is reconstructed, and I wouldn't go to see just that, but since we will be going to Stratford, I figure why not. Also, I just like being places where that great man was. We've been to the Ferry Farm too. And I recently found out he had an office in Winchester, so when we go there, we will pop in.

LOL!

Priceless quote:

"We, the public, are being sickened by an ever expanding assault on our right to live a healthy and free life. Donald & you ratings driven colluders, are holding us the public hostage and exposing us to disease," McGowan wrote. "Our symptoms are knots in our shoulders, sick feelings in the pit of our vaginas, stomach tightness, shortness of breath, wildly elevated stress levels -- we are now chronically experiencing a true mass illness."

Oh yeah, she and her ilk are most definitely suffering from a mass illness...

The exploding heads will be EPIC.

That's some authentic frontier gibberish right there.

Of course, you can substitute the name of any Republican candidate for Trump and she would have said the same exact thing. Whatever it was.

274 Hillary Clinton is a stone cold racist.
After accepting the offer to be his Secretary of State, Pres. Obama had one condition, NO Blumenthal.
She agreed to this condition.
But as soon as she got the job, she reneged.
She intended to use Blumenthal from the very first day and to undermine Pres. Obama's policies at every opportunity.
She used Blumenthal to monetize SoS position and help her become President.
She "bamboozled" Pres. Obama from the very beginning.

Heh. There's no Hillary sign, but a few months ago, I saw a house in a pretty ritzy neighborhood that has a "gun free zone" sign in the front window.

Of course the idiots who live there know their neighbors won't break in. And they probably have a high tech alarm system installed.

280 Good morning, it is college football Saturday, one of the last of the meritocracies. Where save for the Mizzou, where the inmates run the asylum, politics have no place in the game. The patriarchy is supreme as evidenced by all these fine young men saying "Hi mom" to the cameras. Where we all love the smell of fresh, damp grass in the morning that makes way for salty blood, sweat and tears in the afternoon. So grab one of your favorite brews and enjoy the slobber-knocking. And if you get a chance, check out SC's pom pom girls, they know how to fill out a sweater. The only good thing to come from SC, save for John Wayne. Which reminds me of my favorite adage, it is useful when dealing with fans of SC or that team up North. You cannot spell scum without SC or UM. {Unless you are from the SEC, then you spell it A-l-a-b-a-m-a. }
