So This Obama Character is Kind of a Communist Huh

He says Colin Kaepernick has the right to not stand for the National Anthem.

Well that's true. But you'll notice that speaking of rights, and avoiding discussion of goods, is the last refuge of the leftist scoundrel.

Yes, a man has a right to burn the flag on Memorial Day. But should he?

What we're permitted to do and what we should do are two entirely different concepts. Deceitful politicians -- on the left and on the right, but mostly on the left, where this evasion was perfected and then elevated to low art -- speak of the one when plainly the real question is about the other.

It's a way for Obama to offer cowardly, deniable, passive-aggressive support of Colin Kaepernick without technically offering support for his choices. That is, if you question Obama's offer of support, he'll say "Hey man, I only said he had the right to do it."

Yes, but the only thing you said was in positive support of Kaepernick; you did not then go on to question whether expressing contempt for America was a good thing.

I have a sneaking suspicion I know where Obama comes down on the question of whether contempt for America is a good and righteous thing.

But he's too much the pansy coward to declare it. The forbidden words can be implied, but he'll never let them dribble out of his cock-shaped mouth.

20 Kaepernick's pulling a Chris Kluwe. Being an SOB towards most of his fans - in fact, being an SOB towards his own team, to the extent that he will scum them about being "racist" if they get sick of his BS and cut him - in order to distract from the fact that his career is going to be over soon, because he can't hack it anymore. He just wants attention and wants to be remembered for more than being a marginal NFL player.

Bills fan here. How I have been able to stomach about two decades' worth of front office dysfunction and non-playoffs, I'm not entirely sure, but I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that the ownership (first Ralph Wilson and then the Pegulas) are decent human beings. Aside from OJ, we somehow avoid having despicable people on the team (and even in OJ's case, he didn't go full evil until well after he'd retired). The worst we get is the Ryan brothers, and they're really just amusing frat boys when all is said and done. And heck, Rex came out in support of Trump and pissed off a lot of lefties. It's a good time to finally have some hope for the Bills' making the playoffs, regardless; that move just made it a bit sweeter.

Barky's not my POTUS. He's not even eligible to be in the position. He should have stuck to his first political aspiration - to be the Prime Minister of Indonesia. That's where an ersatz Sukarno belongs.

41 I frankly don't care if this second-string backup football QB stands during the anthem, puts his hand over his heart or whatever. That's his choice to make, and sometimes I'm not sure I want to either these days.

My problems are these:

1) His reasoning is specious and ignorant. He's a fool who is convinced that things are horrendous for blacks and the nation is one that is evil and corrupt.
2) The NFL won't let support for cops be demonstrated, but contempt for them is left unchallenged.

That's what I don't care for.

I had a short discussion with some jackwagon who would not beleive or even consider the possibility that things were far worse for blacks in the past. He brought up Jackie Robinson saying the same kinds of things about America... in 1972. Well yeah, Jackie faced horrors that this idiot never even has been close to experiencing. Real, institutionalized, brutal racism and violence was in place then.

Almost every single bit of racism faced by blacks today is either the garden variety a-hole type of jerk everyone faces (I hate you because you're black/I hate you because you're Christian/I hate you because you're a Democrat blah blah)... or just invented. They think some thug piece of trash criminal waving a gun at a cop being gunned down is proof of the man being racist against blacks. Its horsecrap.

They're taking all the evidence that something is desperately wrong with black culture and the behavior of especially young black urban men... and treating it as proof that whites are murdering black people and racism is rampant. Its abjectly retarded. I have no patience with this kind of person.

I told that fool to ask his grandfather about racism and what has changed. He wanted no part of it. Its a new wave of lies and stupidity in America that far too many are signing on to.

And the argument against it... sounds racist. "Its not racism, its blacks acting like idiots" sounds like "blacks are idiots and have it coming."

66 I can't believe for the Labor Day morning thread I had forgotten the opening lines to a story by Jerome K Jerome, The New Utopia (read it in a Bertie Wooster accent):

I had spent an extremely interesting evening. I had dined with some very "advanced" friends of mine at the "National Socialist Club". We had had an excellent dinner: the pheasant, stuffed with truffles, was a poem; and when I say that the '49 Chateau Lafitte was worth the price we had to pay for it, I do not see what more I can add in its favour.

After dinner, and over the cigars (I must say they do know how to stock good cigars at the National Socialist Club), we had a very instructive discussion about the coming equality of man and the nationalisation of capital.

I was not able to take much part in the argument myself, because, having been left when a boy in a position which rendered it necessary for me to earn my own living, I have never enjoyed the time and opportunity to study these questions.

But I listened very attentively while my friends explained how, for the thousands of centuries during which it had existed before they came, the world had been going on all wrong, and how, in the course of the next few years or so, they meant to put it right.

84 I dream of a country where the sports talk hosts would have pointed out that Kaeperdick was pulling a stunt but who cares what the 3rd stringer does and where the 49ers GM would have come out the next day and said "perhaps CK thought he could muddy the waters but we make decisions based on quality of play and CK has been cut from the team."

Alas we live in a world where the sports talkers are promoting the BS that sports stars have a "duty to speak out about police brutality in the 'hoods" And no one with a social megaphone is calling them out on the blatant lie that there even is any systemic or race based acceptance when incidents of police brutality do happen.

85 Personally If I am the San Fran Coach, I take one look at the most recent photo of Kaepernick floating around, and decide there is no way the man is going to fit a helmet on over that Ginormous Afro he is wearing.

He is practically saying I am going to play Center, Guard and Tackle this year (Center of the bench, Guard the water cooler, and Tackle anyone who get too close to it)

Now a bastard of a Coach me would name him starting QB, just so he must fit into his Helmet, put him in for a play and then pull him out.

Before Obama was reelected in 2012 I cared about America and I cared about my fellow Americans, whatever their color. I was greatly disturbed that a large group of Americans seemed to be trapped in a culture that was destructive of their lives and that often spilled over to destroy the lives of others. I saw that many had escaped that destructive culture and had made the transformation journey to join the larger American culture and enjoy the benefits that America had offered people back then.

When Hillary Clinton is elected in November, it will confirm the conclusion that I reached in 2012 that America as I once knew it is dead. Right now it is a convenient place to live, especially if I am too lazy to learn another language but, as our President has pointed out on more than one occasion it is not exceptional.

Since living in America is now merely a matter of convenience rather than a matter of loyalty and commitment, I just really don't give a shit about people who happen to reside within the same administrative zone.

While I stand for the National Anthem, it is more a matter of habit than loyalty or patriotism any more. If Colin Kaepernick does not love what this country is today, I can't say that I disagree with him that much.

Well that's true. But you'll notice that speaking of rights, and avoiding discussion of goods, is the last refuge of the leftist scoundrel.

It isn't really true. While it is true that he is not committing a criminal offense and that he can't be arrested for failing to stand for the national anthem, that is a triviality in the context of this discussion. It's like pointing out that commenters on this blog have first amendment rights. Again true, but who is really arguing against that? If the discussion comes up, it is always in the context of your editorial rights to control what is allowed to be said on your own blog. Nobody is worried about law enforcement coming to arrest the troublesome commenter.

With Kaepernick the issue is does he have the right to disrespect our country while on a 49er/NFL field. That is up to the 49ers and the NFL. And, apparently, they have decided to allow him to trash America while wearing their uniform.

In 2012 I stopped, because I realized this wasn't really the country I wanted to honor any longer. I don't really love America any more. I love my local area, and many people in it, I love what America used to stand for and mean, I love much of its history.

140 Hmmm... Should football players stand for the national anthem? Sure. If nothing else, out of courtesy and respect as a semi public figure. Should kids be required to recite the Pledge of Allegiance in school? Sure.

However...

I have recently been giving some of these things some thought for myself? Do I still believe in the ideas of the Pledge and feel that the flag is a symbol of "the Republic" that is "one nation, under God, indivisible"? Honestly, no I don't. The nation, the Republic, was supposed to be rooted in and all power and authority derived from the people. I cannot honestly think of any examples where any of the ideals expressed by the Pledge or the National Anthem exist anymore, other than as anacronisms that have been mostly disregarded and, in many cases, entirely shunned and replaced with things that are completely unrecognizable and, dare I say it, foreign.

I see a country that is completely divided, that has virtually no common identity and who's people have entirely ceded the ideas of personal responsibility, freedom, and the pursuit of happiness in favor of central govenment rule, a sense personal entitlement detached from ability, uniqueness, ethics, or morals, and where the concept of earning or owning anything has been replaced by "you did not and you cannot build that".

Honestly, I no longer hold any sense of allegiance or respect for to this country. I no longer view the flag as a symbol of freedom or opportunity. I don't believe that the Republic represented in the Pledge or sung about in the Anthem exists any longer, so I no longer have any sincere feeling about who does not does not show respect or allegiance.

Posted by: Joe Hallenbeck at September 05, 2016 02:55 PM (MNgU2)

213 Dumbest bit of this is that the NFL and the 49ers let him do this.

It matters exactly ZERO that he has the right to sit. He can of course do whatever he wants...but not at work.

What are YOUR options if something ceremonial is done at your work that offends you? Lets say you work for a private company and the boss gathers everyone for a "prayer for our day" every morning. Lets say this offends you...what can you do?

You can 1. Participate or 2. Ask to be excused.

Asking to be excused would mean you would leave the area while the prayer was happening.

What you wouldn't be allowed to do is sit in the middle of the floor and actively protest the prayer every day while it was occurring.

Thats the issue. The NFL should have squashed this from the beginning. Simple press release that says "All NFL employees remaining on the field area during pregame ceremonies must participate in those ceremonies. Those that wish to not participate must leave the field during these ceremonies."

Simple. Done.

219 The pledge is a damned socialist invention (no, really; Francis Bellamy hoped it would strengthen the central state in preparation for future socialism) and I have no problem with Kaepernick blowing it off. It's his specious reasoning for why and his public displays of contempt for the police that flow from it that offend and annoy me.

My opinions align more with Christopher Taylor's here: Kaepernick is annoying because he's spouting ignorant leftist cant; and the NFL is deeply offensive because they're so obviously selective in which views and gestures they condone, and which get squashed.

The ones they condone are destructive to our nation, and the ones they squash are not. This attitude, which comes directly from Goodell's office and indirectly from a few teams whose ownership groups are obnoxious leftists (Steelers, I'm looking at you here), pretty much sums up why I like the NFL less and less, and barely watch it any more.

For that matter, cheering against a fellow SEC team in a nonconference match previously would have felt like heresy, but Missouri deserves what it gets.

Now, I am confused again -- so we have a person with a white mother and a black absent father who looks more white than black, who now seems to be viewed as black and perhaps Muslim as well (waiting on official announcement). On the credibility of black it is possible that he is attempting an Afro hairstyle. BUT if he also soon wants to be Muslim as well ..... don't most black Muslims have short hair with some kind of cap ..... then again there are militant black muslims .... perhaps that is the look he is going for. So, a militant looking pale black muslim taking a knee in protest over the American flag which does not honor the country or those who fight for it, but rather symbolized American oppression.

Oh dear. No wonder there are kollege kourses on all this stuff.

237 somewhat ironic that "49er" has the right not to stand

But the internet can't be like the wild wild west ... needs UN to run it.

239 A $250 contest on YouTube for American blacks to describe the "racism" they've suffered would be unintentionally hilarious to those who've suffered real racism.

Or just infuriating. Oh, you feel so bad, son? Some guy cut you off in traffic? That clerk was rude to you? Yeah let me show you the welts on my back from the lashing I took for being a black man that looked at a white girl. Let me show you the grave of the sister that died when they burned down her home because her daddy spoke back to a white man.

It's not cowardice, it's politics.

obama is an evil man. But he can't just come out and act all evil because he wouldn't last long in the White House.

obama has always been very careful to couch his anti-Americanism and evil in Progressive "values" such as ruining the US healthcare system under the guise of "helping" the uninsured, or creating "green" fascistic regulations under the guise of "saving the planet."

Or "normalizing" relations with the evil Castro regime under the guise of "moving forward." Or allowing Iran to have nuclear weapons under the guise of national security.

The only way the Stupid Americans are falling for these preposterous and downright wrong policy shifts is obama's skill at presenting them in a good light.

I agree, I think Obama will hit the campaign trail to help Hillary, but he'll mostly be doing fundraisers, and frankly the magic is off this guy. He won't do much for turnout, I suspect. Its one thing to vote for one of your own peepes, but another to listen to one say you should vote for the haggard queen of corruption and lies.

473 In all fairness, Obama's mouth is not shaped like a cock. It's shaped like a receptacle for a cock. (Form follows function.)

I think the real issue is, why is the US President bothering himself with this trivia? Someone is advising him to, that's why. The better to set us at each others' throats.

You would think he would concern himself with big issues like international trade -- but all issues become small issues with this clown. Serious trade issues at the G20 are completely upstaged by a series of pre-arranged petty snubs and humiliations directed against him. He asks for it, he gets it. Chickenshit cocksucker. Wish he wasn't dragging us all down with him.

It's more than that. Football is made for TV and for TV commercials. It's the best way for advertisers to reach key cohorts, like middle-aged men.

A nutless monkey could run the NFL, but I'd bet Goodell has been good behind the scenes at making money for the owners, else he wouldn't have the job.

Once again, if you want to boycott there are better targets.

Hospitality-wise, kicking up dust in someone else's building is something that should and can be avoided by people of a certain level of maturity. Dear Colon has proven that he has yet to develop or maintain that level.
