Hillary's Poll Lead Breaking In Half, Like Huma-Weiner Marriage of Convenience

A new Morning Consult poll has Hillary's national lead down from 6, to 3.

Last week, Reuters -- which generally has Hillary ahead more than other outfits -- showed Hillary ahead by five. But she had been ahead by 12 in the same poll.

The LATimes poll, which has generally been more favorable to Trump than others, now says the race is tied, though... actually, though it's statistically meaningless, the poll shows Trump slightly ahead.

The Real Clear Politics average still looks pretty bad-- Clinton +6.

On the other hand: Trump is closing in must win Ohio and Pennsylvania as well as would-be-a-knockout-punch Michigan.

And at least as of a few weeks ago, wasn't it confirmed that Trump hadn't run a single TV ad? If he starts spending some money, I have to think it can move the needle. And then there's the debates.

I honestly believe if some Republicans could get over themselves and unite, he would win.

15 Whoever the race "is about" is the candidate that's going to lose. If the race becomes "Do you want Donald Trump to be President?" then he's not going to win. But if the question is "Do you want Hillary Clinton to be President?" she'll lose as well. My worry with Trump is that he wants to make the race about himself, which highlights his own flaws and downplays Hillary's. Note that the trends in the polls seem to correspond to whichever candidate isn't in the news recently. The stuff about Huma/Weiner hurts Hillary because people aren't talking about whatever stupid thing Trump said recently.

Is The Donald hoarding his cash for a late October blitz? Where is Hillary and what is she doing to "console" Huma? Why did I put that image in your head?

31 More on the recent Q poll which shows Hillary at 51% and Trump at 41%, but didn't show their turnout assumptions among Ds, Rs and Is.

I ran a simple analysis using actual 2012 turnout which was 38% D, 32% R and 29% I, and replicated their results. In other words the Q poll assumes 2012 turnouts, or something remarkably similar.

But turnout is the significant variable, as I keep harping, and can't be predicted by relying on 2012. e.g. Hillary won't get Obama's D turnout. Also, many polls automatically reject a Trump voter as not being "likely" if he didn't vote at all in 2012 (or in 200.

Now if a lot of Rs don't turnout, it'll hurt Trump. HillaryLand is trying to get many Rs to stay home because he's a racist psychopath.

But it's not hard to show Trump winning using tools like the 538 interactive map which does a state-by-state electoral map with plausible assumptions about turnout among different cohorts. As I've been saying since last fall.

52 "as well as would-be-a-knockout-punch Michigan."

A long string of gentleman-loser Republicans have discreetly avoided pointing to, looking at, or talking about the disaster that is Detroit, for fear of being called racist.

Much less to blame the failures of Detroit on Democrats -- why, amicable bipartisan collegiality might be impaired. Cocktail and dinner party invites could be withdrawn. Can't do that. Not at this juncture. Wouldn't be prudent.

Trump bulls straight ahead and actually says that the place is a disaster, that Detroit is a squalid national shame, and that the Democrats and their policies are unambiguously at fault.

Aaaannnnndddd... Trump starts getting traction in Michigan, where the rest of the state are embarrassed at having Detroit as an albatross around their necks, and are actually pretty keen NOT TO have all of Michigan swirl down the same toilet bowl.

Who knew?

Now if Trump can do similar things across the rest of the Rust Belt, we may have a race.

1) Trump says everyone publish their detailed medical records.
2) Hillary says, OK, release your taxes.
3) Trump calls the bluff and releases them, with nothing controversial in there.

I know he's not releasing because there is likely something in there that he doesn't want GOP voters to see, but would be a master stroke if this were the scenario. I imagine, there is some truth to the claims that he's not nearly as wealthy has he claims and I figure there is probably a six figure donation to PP or something, in his past.

I agree that this can be intellectually dishonest to dismiss polls one day and not the next, but can we at least agree that 99% of the people commissioning these polls are uniformly in the tank for Hillary?

Has there ever been an institution full of liberals where they DON'T abuse their position in order to influence politics? And increasingly, the once non-partisan looking institutions are becoming more comfortable with pushing the envelope?

I honestly do believe that pollsters play the game where they show a Democrat with a huge lead in order to set up a narrative all through the election and then as the election day gets closer, they have to save some face and look semi-accurate.

I also believe that Trump has a "Bradley effect" the likes of which we have never seen. Just about every Republican I know is a stealth supporter.

I just don't really think that was drawing in the types of Republican voters that normally don't vote in primaries.

Just a much different demographic.

Is a country club Republican that normally doesn't vote going to make sure they get to the polls and vote for Jeb because they dislike Trump? I tend to think that type of voter was already in the system and probably even a GOP donor.

There have always been "unacceptable" Republican nominees but it never seemed to drive turnout like it did this time, which is why I tend to think it was more in support of Trump than against him.

I think you can be confrontational and respectful. The trap to avoid is to say/do something that will be picked up for being sexist. That's what everyone will be watching for.

I think he needs to do something to subtly call attention to the perceived health issues.

I think he also runs the risk of her making something up, and him arguing about it, which will then be picked up (rightful, as him not being prepared).

I'm surprised that no one pulled that in the primary. Rubio even bailed him out on the nuclear triad thing, I think Rubio was attempting to show that Trump didn't know what it was, but he kind of bungled it.

_______________

I'm curious to see if she can even stand up for the time a debate takes. Somebody, may have been Insty, linked to an article over the weekend which claimed that Hillary has an EMT among her retinue 24/7, and that he has been seen to rush up and calm Hillary when she gets nervous or flustered and seems to be nearing melt-down. He obviously won't be able to do that during nationally-televised debates.

I wonder if we'll see another Hillary "short circuit" or apparent seizure (like in the YouTube video) during the debate. Rick Perry blew his chances in 2012 when he became befuddled during his attempt to answer a question about what federal agencies he would eliminate. Blamed his confusion on his back pain meds. I wonder what excuse Hillary will use, or will her sycophants in the media provide cover for her and rush to conveniently-timed commercial breaks if they notice her flagging?

214 It's important for Trump to, right out of the starting gate, the first time on a shared stage with Hillary, point out a clear example of her untrustworthiness. In the first few minutes.

If that seed gets planted early, and successfully, the audience gets left wondering for the rest of the night what she's saying that also might be untrue.

What's the perfect anecdote? Hillary claiming to have been under sniper fire at the airport during her trip to Bosnia. There's no defense. There are no gray areas in her lie. It's obvious, simple and punchy.

Plus... it's a neat doubleheader. Trump can point out that Hillary was accompanied by a large press entourage, all of whom were right there at the airport with her, and all of whom knew quite well that her claims about snipers were totally false. But none of the media spoke up about it to the public. It took a _standup comedian_ who happened to be along to puncture the pretense.

Since the media are constantly taking Hillary's side, and leaping to her defense, whatever can be done to sow doubts about their impartiality is absolutely necessary.

Weiner is a narcissist. A dumb one, but still a narcissist. All men know that strippers aren't really into them - it's a business transaction.

Since sexting doesn't include any exchange of money, a narcissist like Weiner can delude himself into thinking that the person receiving the pictures (who might be a guy, for all he knows) is really being 'turned on' by Weiner's clumsy dirty talk and pictures of his mediocre abs and limp member.

So here's the question: what are truly 'libertarian' positions?

Because I'm beginning to think that the 'smart libertarians' have given up most 'libertarian' positions because occasionally now and then a Republican supports one, and while they may THINK they're somehow different and better from Democrats, they're as motivated by animus to the yucky Republicans as hard-core Dems are.

309 When Huma and Weiner divorce, the saddest part is that one of them will get the kid -- and that's sad for the kid, whether the kid winds up with the narcissistic pervert or the criminal henchman. If you have any decency, you have to root for the kid to run away from home and join the circus or something.

Strangely, the Weiner marriage is a metaphor for this election, if you think about it. The country is the kid, and no matter who wins the election...

319 Just a quick note on why the LA Time poll matters...

It is different in that it uses the SAME PEOPLE in every poll. When they show a shift, the shift isn't because they got a different sample. It is because they are showing real movement among people changing their minds.

There is an assumption that they started with a representative sample for their poll. But if that assumption is true, then the use of a static set of respondents controls for a lot of other factors.

There is a very good chance that the LA Times poll is the most accurate. At least they didn't change methodologies in the middle of the election like Reuters did.

The Black Panther Party is just making noise, clamoring for notice and influence, jockeying for position, worried that BLM is encroaching on their turf--which it is. They're trying desperately to make it seem as if they and the black vote are synonymous. It's a power play.

So far, Trump hasn't made an appreciable dent in the black vote. The reason is Trump can't possibly out-pander Democrats. For that matter, no Republican at any level can out-pander Democrats. If Republicans start making racial appeals, then we're playing on their ground and we'll alwayslose.

I don't know why they aren't all gunning for a Trump win on the left...finally a president to blame for everything again!

Michelle is more Amazonian, as in she could hold her own with a Viking war-band; she cannot dress like a young supermodel no matter how much she may want to try. Hillary, she's just decrepit and needs all of the covering she can get.

385 318 You know I saw during Hillary's speech last week? She is genuinely scared of Trump. Like shaking. It's like Frank J's theory has come to life. Posted by: Mortimer at August 29, 2016 02:43 PM (zu88C)

386 "I had a Dem straight up tell me that "Being able to break the law so brazenly, and get away with it, is enough to earn his vote."

Ahem...yeah, see the problem with that is they are able to break the law so brazenly, and get away with it.

I am often impressed with various levels of corruption, but certainly not going to earn my vote with it. I am a big fan of Blago, I hope he gets a pardon or clemency before Obama leaves office. That whole thing was spectacular, it's a shame he didn't get away with it. I figure like Hillary getting off on the email stuff, there was enough to cook Obama's goose, so Blago went away to jail, and the email investigation gets cast aside.

I'm was a big fan of bridgegate here in NJ too, seemed just over the top political revenge, the notion that Christie knew nothing about it is ludicrous. Still would never vote for Christie, voted against him 4 times. Very glad he's not on Trump's ticket, I'd have a real existential crisis with that, I don't want to break my streak.

388 Ahem...yeah, see I'm was a Dem useful idiot. See the problem now? Am I getting through?

Because I've got millions of useful idiots to my left and right here in Xombie land that are still shocked about that late night visit and the firing squad the next day.

389 Yeah, I never liked Trump and was sick about having to vote for him, but since I've had the misfortune to read comments and articles from nevertrumpers, ie some of the wrong people, and leftists, ie the wrong-wrong people, I'm actually fine about it now. The worst people hate him, good enough for me.

391 Huma's a Muslim brotherhood plant. They caught Hillary the old-fashioned way: giving her a hot girlfriend who holds her in the palm of her hand.
