From the Land of Sun Tan Lotion, say hello to Baby Zoey. Baby Zoey is owned by Peaches. She's 8 years old and a character. Not surprising. Ghost of Hallelujah submitted this photo of his English Bulldog Zeke or AKA Mr. Stinky. This dog loves the couch so much that he sinks into it damaging the cushions. Per GoH this is the 2nd couch for the dog. This is Pepper. Looks like a Long Hair Dachshund. Eromero didn't specify. Cute dog. This is Eromero's cat Mickel who recently passed away. It hit Mr. & Mrs. E quite hard. Nothing easy-EVER-about the passing of a pet. Sorry for your loss. Carl from The U.K. who is a Lurker submitted this photo of his Jack Russell Terrier, Nipper. Nipper crossed the Rainbow Bridge in July. Carl, we are sorry for your loss. This is Boddington, English Golden Retriever. He is owned by IC. Per IC this big guy is named after an ale. This is the first of 2 photos sent in by IP. This is Sophia. Looks like she is dressed with no where to go. These are IP's doggehs. Jazz is the Min-Pin and Shiloh is the Beagle mix. Unfortunately Shiloh is no longer with IP. Our 2nd Zoey of the day. Per Lurker Tom A. she is a Sproodle mix. She looks cute and so abused-NOT. Lawrence submitted this photo of his cat Tux the Cat. Boy, talked about a dressed up feline. Nice looking cat Lawrence. Thank you for sharing. We aren't sure if the owner of Max is a Lurker and Moron. There was no nic provided just his real name. If he is around today and he can tell us who he is. Lurker OutofOhio who is trying to get up the courage to post submitted this photo. Otto was with with the family for 16 years before old age got him. Charming looking dog. It is easy to see how he was the center of attention. We are going to ask for some help from you Morons and Lurkers. We appreciate the photos. But, we ask for your patience in having them posted. We are also asking that you only send one photo at a time. We stretched the rules today by posting more than one per owner. We will get to all of the photos but it takes time. We appreciate you stopping by today. Thank you. petmorons at the g mail dot com. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Thank You Elle & MH for doing it. That "Bad Pet Groomers" link above - I'm pretry sure #5 lives in Downtown Norfolk. Dude grooms his labradoodle to look like a lion. Dog just walks around unleashed. This is VERY close to the city zoo, so you can imagine the hilarity that ensues on a regular basis. All great looking moronimals, (and very content, it seems) but I have to say I really have taken to the small dogs these days. I wish I could afford more... My dog wants so badly to play with my cats, but they're just not ready to trust her yet, after 8 months. Jane, the dog (104 pounds, 2.5 years old), plays with dogs who are actually smaller than my cats at the dog park. (My cats range from 18-22 pounds). Little mini-pins, poodles, various schnauzers, puppies of all breeds, and she can't understand why the cats don't love her as much as the little dogs do.

Posted by: Lincolntf at August 20, 2016 03:33 PM (2cS/G) I have noticed that in the great dogs vs. cats face off, it is usually the cats who are the wary or hostile ones, although they can overcome their initial anti-canine bias. Dogs are usually the "hi! What are you and whassup!" ones. Of course that does not hold true if they are raised together. I lost my best pal this week.
My ten year old Lab had a coronary heart failure. I knew he wasn't well, but apparently he had cancer, and tumors in his chest were bleeding and filled his heart cavity with blood. He collapsed Monday afternoon after I got home from work. I managed to get him into the car with the help of my neighbor (my Lab weighed over 130 lb, he was a big dog), and by the time I got him to the emergency pet hospital, he was in cardiac arrest. Last week, Hrothgar was writing about how he had lost his oldest dog, and I knew mine was sick, but just didn't realize how sick he was. I don't think taking him to the vet earlier would have prevented much, but it just broke my heart to lose my best friend. As my son said, he was the best dog a guy could have ever asked for. He loved my sons, and was just a great companion. What makes dogs so loyal, such good friends? How do we ever deserve something as wonderful as that? How did I ever deserve to have such a good dog? I agree, in an ideal scenario we would have gotten a puppy and kittens at the same time. But you know how it is, a pet needs a home, you just take it. The cats are 3 and 4 years old, she's not quite three, so hopefully they'll come to a cozier relationship eventually.

As much as I love this thread, I always have to prepare myself to cry a little before I read it. Today is no exception. Lincoln, My minpin loves to play with any dog he sees, especially the large ones. He has never been to a dog park, but my front yard has turned into a de-facto dog park for the neighborhood walkers. We've had as many as 4 out there chasing each other around. It's funny. I keep poop bags at the mailbox, a a giant bowl of clean water for everybody to make use of. Did some volunteer work at a no-kill pet shelter yesterday and for my first time it was surprisingly nice. Sure I got some play time in with kitties, but I also did some cleaning.
The animals there were mostly "surrenders". That means people who could no longer keep or take care of them. Not judging the people who gave them up, but I could never do that. Posted by: Tilikum Killer Assault Whale-Skeet Surfer at August 20, 2016 04:05 PM (hVdx9) 54

Chi- one of the best parts of going to the dog park (my neighborhood isn't great for frontyard get-togethers, everybody stays in their backyards) is watching all the dogs meet each other and then launch in to some version of "canine high school". If you can just make one small donation, I know that it would really help. I copied this from a post by Melissa Dillon Seal on Facebook, sharing only the part dealing with needs for animals. Humane Society of Louisiana has rescued & transported many animals to safety, even by boating in to shelters who had no choice but to open kennels and let the animals loose to have a chance at survival www.Humanela.org St Tammany Humane Society took in 20+ displaced shelter dogs https://bit.ly/2bqxHJ5 LSART has done many deep water rescues of animals, including livestock & gotten them to safety. http://lvma.org/lsartdonations Tangi Humane Society received devastating damage to their shelter & must completely rebuild https://www.gofundme.com/2j453p7w A general wish list of supplies that I threw together for people wanting to send supplies. If you can't adopt them yourself, or find somebody who can, I advise to leave them be and keep doing what you can to feed them. Once you put them into "the system", unless it's a specifically, and accountably, no-kill shelter/foster situation, the odds of euthanasia skyrocket. We just had a horror story involving a lost dog down here. The girl who found it insisted that she would only drop it off at a no-kill facility, as it had a collar but no tags/chip. Bounced around to 3 different physical addresses in town, before finding one that guaranteed a 72-hour rule and a Vet visit for all found pets before the consideration of euthanasia. The girl who found the dog eventually found the owner, the owner called the facility, the dog was put down less than 6 hours after being dropped off.

Those are eternal questions, I have no answers for
either. I'm so sorry for your loss, but the bright side is that you had a loyal and loving companion for years when you could have been dogless. Posted by: Hrothgar And that's the best part. I had him for 9 years, and I feel lucky for that. He waited for me at the door, and was always glad to see me. He was always such a happy, big old goofy dog. He hardly ever gave me cause to be mad at him. Thanks to all for their heartfelt condolences. I felt so sad the night he died. But feel so fortunate to have had such a pal. The house is so empty without him. It was always in the cards the we would all outlive our little friends, but it was a gift that we had them at all. I think that there is a God, because he gave us such great companions that show us the best in any creature that we could ask for. Love, loyalty, companionship, laughs, a good tongue-licking sometimes. All almost freely given. A good dog can make us all better people. I know mine did. Sorry, BC, about the death of your dear pal Lab. What was his name?
Posted by: FenelonSpoke My son named him. His name was Arty. We got him from the Humane Society in 2007, and I guess by his size, he was about a year old then. Somebody gave him up. He was mostly a yellow lab, but I think he had some Shephard in him, from the shape of his skull. He was a big dog, too. Weighed about 140 lb at his max. Very gentle dog, most of the time. I was feeding him less this year, trying to get him to lose some weight as he got older. I didn't realize how sick he was. People are such wretches sometimes, but it was our good luck to adopt him. He immediately latched onto my sons, and wanted to be with them all the time. He was always let down when they left for the day to go to school. He was never happier than when we were traveling together, so he could be with all of us. His pack. Posted by: Bossy Conservative....outlaw in America at August 20, 2016 05:27 PM (RFeQD) 102
I was helping my husband clean a church today (one of the jobs he has to bring in some extra income) and they had just finished up doing Vacation Bible School on Friday. It was some beach related thing-"Catch the wave of God's amazing love" They had posted a list of answers given by the kids to this questions, "What are ways God sends us love?" One of the answers "God gives us our pets" and indeed it is true-Our pets, but more than pets -they are our friends and really family members given to us to love and be loved by and it hurts like heck when they die.
And it's not just dogs and cats. My son's cello teacher had to cancel his lesson because the teacher was really broken up about the death of his iguana which he had living with him for six years. Posted by: FenelonSpoke at August 20, 2016 05:29 PM (6HqlZ) 103

Bossy, so sorry for your loss. And condolences for the rest of you who have lost your best friends and companions. Recent or not, the loss is one you carry all your life. Have lost four Labs and two cats, and while none are easy, that first one was the hardest. God gives us pets as a teaser to Heaven, so we can see what His unconditional love is like.
Ran across this Kipling poem years ago that captures the loss in a way only a dog lover truly can. This is just one verse: Buy a pup and your money will buy Love unflinching that cannot lie Perfect passion and worship fed By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head. Nevertheless it is hardly fair To risk your heart for a dog to tear. http://www.kiplingsociety.co.uk/poems_dog.htm Posted by: Legally Sufficient at August 20, 2016 05:44 PM (tbKrr) 105

A happy ending story. After my quest for a Scottish Deerhound failed, I started haunting the local dog pound. On one trip I saw a large black and white dog and didn't really pay a lot of attention because I was taken by a small doxie/whatever. Well I didn't take the little dog because I need big dogs for here on the farm. I didn't take the big dog either but he kinda stuck in the back of my mind. I told some of my friends about him , but I just wasn't sure. Dear friends went to the pound and brought me the black/ white dog for my birthday. I noticed that this dog had a tattoo . Could not fathom why someone would tattoo a mixed breed dog. Well, come to find out, after a lot of research, this dog is a rare colored purebed Ibizan hound. This dog is the biggest clown I have ever seen. I would not care if he had any breeding at all but he makes me laugh out loud everyday.

Ode to Wiggly-
When I was 14, we moved yet again, and my oldest sister picked up a puppy (literally) along the way. He was a happy, squirmey, short haired , brindle colored, heavily muscled, small puppy that grew to maybe 12" at the shoulder. Wiggly was fearless as well as very smart. He treed racoons, bears (really!) and chased off many other monsters known only to him in the dark. He loved lying near the woodstove when it was below zero, but refused to stay home if someone warmed up the truck. I left on extended world travel at 18, and returned 7 years later. Wiggly was never "my" dog. He greeted me quietly, politely, as an elderly dog would. That night, after many years sleeping rough, I couldn't sleep on a mattress, and moved to the carpet near the stove. I woke at a touch. Wiggly was standing guard, at my 6. We shared a brief instant of complete understanding and mutual respect that I hope you can understand. Even now I hope I'm as good a man as he thought I was at that moment. Chi #98: I always lament the end of the Pet Thread....
I'm late, again. But, I've seen comments on Pet Threads almost 'til Noon on Sunday. http://acecomments.mu.nu/?blog=86&post=365103#c25632658 Week before last, I mentioned our in-town cat got into an altercation with a local feral he had thought was friendly. The next day, Merlin wouldn't go outside for his usual brief roll on the sidewalk and nibble of grass. He was shy and a little weird all day. Seemed to have fully recovered by the next day. Then, earlier this week, Milady let him out at night just as we were about to head home. He apparently saw another cat (same one? different one?) and ran off out of it. Eventually we gave up waiting for him and calling for him and searching for him. We left some water out and went home. Came in early the next morning, and he was there, apparently quite ready to come inside and have some food. That was a little scary. At the ranchero, the heat has broken, and critter behaviors have changed with the weather. A couple of nights, all four cats have spent the night inside, which some hadn't been doing, with the nice nights and bright moon. Makes me happy to have them all inside safe all night. Not so happy at the prospect of Winter, for which I'm certainly not ready. The van is in the shop, and we've been driving the truck. It's a bigger leap to get in for old Dutiful Doggie. Before we had the van towed off, he crawled in it for a while. Pretty sure he was stating his preference. Let's see, in-town cat, rural cats, dog... that's everybody. Report concludes. Pookie's Girl, the problem with feral kittens is that their mommas generally were feral too. So they tend to be suspicious, independent, timid and not up for strangers, and often have issues not gulping all food available down.
On the other hand, they can be the best cats in the world, but heartbreakers in that they sometimes wander off, tend to hunt anything that moves, are extremely stubborn, and their greatest show of affection when the weather is nice is to come in to eat, and then yowl until they are let out again. I love my two feral kitties but most people want more out of a pet than a 6 lb scrap of fur that will fight you to the death to keep out of the carrier to go to the vets' or be dosed with flea meds. #25 I lost my best pal this week...
Oh Bossy, my heart breaks for you, and for anyone else who has lost a pet. I like to believe there is a huge animal spirit repository in the sky, comprised of the spirits of every pet who has lived on earth. As a pet passes, he/she is lifted up and absorbed into this animal repository, where each spirit waits to return to earth, its spark (or essence) in another pet body but recognized by the spirit of those humans left behind. That's why a lot of our pets "Feel" so familiar. Because they all have a piece of every animal that came before. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
