8 We're getting to the point where soon, the only thing the police will be doing will be manning DUI check points and investigating homicides the next morning. No more responding to crimes in progress or real-time law enforcement at all. Whose to blame them?

But on the bright side - the anarchists will be happy.

9 Here s more of Hillary's foreign policy;

"Rampaging South Sudan troops raped foreigners, killed local"

"On July 11, South Sudanese troops, fresh from winning a battle in the capital, Juba, over opposition forces, went on a nearly four-hour rampage through a residential compound popular with foreigners, in one of the worst targeted attacks on aid workers in South Sudan's three-year civil war. They shot dead a local journalist while forcing the foreigners to watch, raped several foreign women, singled out Americans, beat and robbed people and carried out mock executions, several witnesses told The AP. In certain parts of town. And no, I don't blame them one bit. If the people in the inner city don't want police to enforce laws there - well, then let them have what they want. I don't care anymore. As long as it doesn't spread outside the 'hood.

27 Funny how the shooter in NYC has numerous pictures on the front page while in custody and we know everything about him but his underwear size.

I don't condone what he did of course. But after every Muslim terrorist attack we had to wait days to hear who they were along with the statements about what they did Had nothing to do with Islam blah blah blah.

Oh and the local Jihadis want him hung because they've decided his motive had to do with them being Muslim.

Posted by: #neverskankles at August 16, 2016 08:13 AM (kfFTe)

30 So the suspect in the NYC Muslim killing is a Hispanic and the motive might have been a Muslim-Hispanic feud?

My, how inconvenient for the media. If the suspect turns out to have a name like "Jose Torres" it might be difficult to portray him as a white Hispanic. I always thought one problem George Zimmerman had going for him was his name.

It's so surprising that Hispanics and Muslims are feuding isn't it? The left's pet victim groups don't seem to like each other very much.

Yep. And HillaryCare 2.0 will be about as successful as HillaryCare 1.0. Before we get there though, we, the people who actually pay taxes, will have to bail out the insurance companies who got swindled into O-care. Then we'll get to Socialist Nirvana.

54 The German Bank KfW is funding a waste treatment plant on condition that it be built in "Area C" and only serve the Arab population, the Legal Forum for Israel asserted Tuesday.

According to the Forum, this same bank also funded the establishment of a water purification plant near the Jewish community of Psagot in the Binyamin region, which is dirtying the water flowing through the nearby valley of Wadi Kelt. The Legal Forum warns that the establishment of the new waste treatment plant near the Jewish community of Rimonim will cause serious damage to a nearby archaeological site dating to biblical times.

If we were smart (which of course, we're not), we would jump on this failure of Obamacare to institute a substitute that would work.

However, in order to do so, we have to get over the knee-jerk reaction to "single payer". We on the right need to understand the terminology and the numbers to make an informed decision.

When we talk about catastrophic care, we're only discussing a tiny percentage of the population who isn't already covered with government "single payer". Trading away that miniscule segment of healthcare in order to get Health Savings Accounts and a direct, free market patient to doctor system for everyday healthcare is a great deal for conservatives.

Of course, only about 2% of the people understand this, so it will never happen.

71 The thing with Obacamare is it's not just premiums and which insurer is selling what. O-Care basiclaly got rid of insurance. What we have now isn't insurance. If I can get "insurance" after I get sick, it's not longer insurance. And the govt dictates that every policy is exactly the same. They all have to cover the same things and the price is set by the govt as well.

So we already have govt run health care for all intents and purposes. All Aetna, United, BCBS do is administer the paperwork on behalf of the govt. They're govt subcontractors and nothing more.

79 I'm not a hunter so help me out with the outrage over the hunter killing a bear with a spear. It seems to me that people should approve of this because under such conditions the bear has at least as much of a chance as the hunter. Or is it just the weird novelty of it?

I think the outrage from the hunters is because A) it problably *looks* bad on video and gives the antihunters something to latch onto. B) When hunting I've been taught to dispatch the animal as quickly and painlessly as possible. Killing a bear with a spear is probably not that.

I'm certain that state run healthcare will help put the exclamation point on that adjective nicely.

Let that segment go.

Concentrate on the everyday care and totally eliminating insurance companies by utilizing HSAs and a direct payment to the provider. Allow advertising, let the doctors compete for the business. That can happen today, we don't need a govt program for it. I've had an HSA forever. And I comparison shop as well. All you have to do is ask for the price and most places will negotiate too, and give you significant discounts if you prepay.

The problem is our society doesn't want that because it takes effort. They want Uncle Barack or Aunt Hillary to give them everything for free without having to lift a finger.

Year after year, same ratio - 5% benefit. It's a racket.

148 So jwest, if I'm understanding your suggestion, you are saying that whatever small percentage of privately insured patients who have catastrophic (high dollar) injury or illness should be thrown on the taxpayer-funded pile because it's such a small number in the grand scheme of things.

As CBD obliquely points out, that then hinges on what the definition of "catastrophic" is. So in essence you are talking about setting a floor on taxpayer-funded healthcare, below which you would pay for your own care and above which you wouldn't.

What dollar limit do you propose per annum?

'Cause I'll guarantee you, nobody knows what that number should be. Ten grand? twenty? thirty? Similar schemes have been tried locally in various places, and the howling from the entitlement crowd is deafening.

153 The only purpose to insurance-- the reason it was intended-- is to have a pool to pay off catastrophic expenses.

What we have today is not 'insurance,' it is a service plan.

'We felt that same anger. We all had a hatred.'

Ditto.

155 Yes, we should. One's car insurance doesn't cover
tire rotation, oil changes, or maintenance related repairs, so why does
health insurance?

Posted by: Vashta Nerada at August 16, 2016 09:13 AM (7ZVPa)

It's a flawed analogy, because auto insurance doesn't cover non-maintenance-related repairs either.

But the overall point is valid. If we can return to a system that allowed people to see the actual costs, they would be able to make more rational decisions.

I realize that comparison shopping for a physician is not always the best way to get good care, and I certainly don't do it. But injecting rational economic pressures into what is the largest single market in our economy is not a bad thing.

Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at August 16, 2016 09:20 AM (Zu3d9)

156 Well it does make sense to cover "Well Care"- check-ups and basics. Not only does it cut down on bigger bills and treatment down the line, but it is actually cost effective in the long run.

--

Two of my previous employers subsidized annual checkups with blood tests, paying about half the cost, and me paying the other half monthly, separate from my insurance coverage. That was reasonable.

I'm not sure it's true either.

But just because early detection of HBP and prevention of a stroke can decrease the eventual monetary outlay for treatment of stroke in that individual, I'm not sure it decreases their lifetime spending on healthcare in its entirety.

210 One of the difficulties I have with strict economic analysis of healthcare is that in some circumstances there is no alternate use for the expenditure.

Part of the problem is the nature of modern medicine itself. When most of the needs of people could be met by a well-trained and well-stocked village healer, that was one thing. These days, unless all that equipment and those wonder drugs drop in cost by orders of magnitude, that's not really going to be an option in many cases.

Of course then you get into WHY they cost so much. Like I say, for every "government solution" there's a problem government caused to begin with.

I think it was more the appearance of things than the kill itself.

Guy baits a "bear feeder".

Waits around literally giggling like a maniac.

Smallish bear shows up.

Guy rises to kill bear.

Bear runs away. i.e.. zero fight or danger.

Guy throws spear.

Bear dies miserably.

Guy celebrates like a retard.

No matter what that looked pretty shitty because no one eats bear, the bear posed no danger. So, it was a trophy kill done in a gruesome and painful manner for the bear by choice.

Not that I care if he hunted and killed a bear, but the optics were horrible to place on the internet.

For this to work, the guy would've needed to confront a rampaging grizzly bear tearing through a kindergarten and stand toe to toe with his spear and kill it.

Then all the celebrating...sure. You earned it pal.

But, this...kill a smallish black bear when it was afraid of you and running away?

That's a fair statement. In the end, I think most of us can agree here that it is something that should be left to the individual and not dictated by government over some cost analysis, that frankly no one can ever be certain of. Let the market decide.

277 I'm not a hunter so help me out with the outrage over the hunter killing a bear with a spear. It seems to me that people should approve of this because under such conditions the bear has at least as much of a chance as the hunter. Or is it just the weird novelty of it?
Posted by: joncelli, Longbow Afficianado and Phalangist at August 16, 2016 08:40 AM (RD7QR)

Hunting bear over bait is legal in many areas. Many bears are killed with bows, a "mini spear" if you will.
Bow kills don't always go well, if you shoot high, low, etc. it may take a long time for the bear to die(or deer, or whatever). In order to get the bear in range for a good shot, baiting is used and so it was in this case.
The spear just looks more gruesome to the average person. Shooting a bear with a bow, a crossbow, or a gun , if the shot is not exactly placed, can be just as untimely as far as the bear dying.

I'm assuming the spear was a legal weapon for taking bear in this guy's area. DNR's here and in Canada regulate what weapons can be used so that a kill shot that is "humane" is more likely. Spears are probably down the list and quite in the primitive weapon category.

Bears are also hunted with dogs. You can imagine the PETA people' response to it. They have managed to get bear hunting with dogs stopped in many states and won't rest on that subject until it is illegal everywhere. Of course, their goal is to stop all hunting, followed by all pet and livestock ownership. But as good leftists, they know to eat the elephant they have to start with one bite.
Then they will fight towns etc. who hire professional shooters to rid areas of dangerous nuisance bears.

And whoever up thread said no one eats bear is wrong. I have, it's not exactly gourmet and I'm not exactly looking forward to ever eating it again. Very greasy. Many bear hunters do process the carcass and eat the meat. It's not simply a trophy kill for many bear hunters.

I agree that the hunter is a dick in this case.

But there must be someone out there eating bear. A few years back when I went to Weight Watchers, I had a "point guide" assigning points to all sorts of food.

They had Bear meat listed - but not smoked oysters. Smoked oysters on crackers are one of my favorite snacks. Bear meat not so much.

Central Pennsylvanians certainly do eat bear. Even Penn State students looked on winning the bear license lottery as a big deal when John studied there.

We had grown our own meat when I was a kid and it hadn't occurred to me that, if you lived in town, hunting might be *necessary* to provide meat on a tight budget and getting a bear and two deer (the women pretty much all hunted too) meant food security in a way I was completely unfamiliar with. And *not* getting them meant lack in a way I was unfamiliar with as well.
