"She is charged with _manipulating government
accounts and spending without congressional approval_, which her
opponents say helped her win re-election in 2014."

Good thing that such shenanigans only happen in Brazil, eh?

But you can be sure that if anything like that were ever to happen in our own fair land with a presidential administration of our own, our diligent watchdogs on Capitol Hill would be cranking up the impeachment proceedings right away! Serious you guys!

Mercer Playground has been turned into an open-air flophouse by homeless people who camp out on the benches, litter the place with their junk and relieve themselves there, according to locals familiar with the spot.

Even worse, neither the NYPD nor the Parks Department is doing anything to clean it up, they said.

27 Oh, dear, Delta's woes continue. Massive disruptions all through their network.

So Delta, which once proudly owned one of the U.S. airline industry's better IT shops, decided to downsize, outsource, and offshore those jobs to make a buck. And brought in dirt cheap H-1B "coolie coders" to replace American citizens working on Delta's systems.

Now it has epically bit Delta in the ass because the replacement IT people turn out to have been incompetent rubes. A river, crying one, some assembly required.

71 "Certainly, one shouldn't put too much faith in polls especially this far
out from November. BUT . . . that said, there are a number of fairly
honest polls that show Mr. Trump trailing."

Trump went on the prompter at the convention and delivered a rock solid speech off of it. Clear direct attacks on his opponent with no meandering or distraction or ambiguity. He got one of the best convention bounces in history out of it.

Then Trump went off the prompter and back to his normal vague blustery stream-of-semiconsciousness speaking style. Started attacking obvious bait instead of attacking his opponent. And within about ten days had not only lost his entire convention bounce, but was further behind than before the convention.

Might turn out to have been the most pivotal ten days in the ruin of the Republic.

75 From reading some comment by libs , police should not only stop doing things that actually catch criminal and reduce crime like profiling and zero tolerance for "broken windows" because it is raaaacist. They should start arresting old, white people at random until there aren't any more. Too many vote the wrong way and are nearly all racists anyways and that has become the worst crime possible in the USA.. I'm sure they would have the full support of the DOJ

In any case, first, throw out all the outliers that are ridiculous. Then look at the polling company and their past performance.

I'm not looking forward to it. There are some rabid Trump haters in my family who think Hill's sins are minor in comparison and it's either bite my tongue until it bleeds or get into an unpleasant conversation. 101 "when is Trump going to start with the commercial blitz against Granny
Mao Suit Evilpants? It appears she's blowing up the airwaves in ads,
and he is practically non-existant."

What I predicted earlier this year was that Trump was going to neglect fundraising for paid media until quite late, and then when behind in the polls was suddenly going to realize that he needed paid media, and that he would then go raise the money, only to then find that all of the best slots for paid media have been snorked up in advance by the Clintonworld campaign machine.

So far that is completely on track.

Trump is trying to run against the Grandmonster the way that he ran against Jeb Bush, figuring that big ad spending didn't save Jeb. But while there are some similarities and sympathies between those two, Clinton is a hell of a lot bigger, meaner, better connected, and more lavishly funded than Please Clap could ever hope to be.

The fact that I probably have to learn how to sew to help her out doesn't thrill me though. The Nevada solar story is actually not about a solar boondoggle or government subsidies. The way I read it the program allowed homeowners to sell excess energy (produced by panels they installed at their own expense) back to the energy company. That is no longer being offered. The homeowners are being asked to subsidize the energy company. It's a tax!!

There's no disconnect. As we all know the majority of polls are intended to shape opinion and not reflect it. That said, pollsters need to be accurate in order to stay in business. And their accuracy improves dramatically as Election Day nears.

You have to look at as many as you can to try and get as accurate a picture as possible, starting mid to late September. Real Clear Politics usually lists most of the major polls. Silver's old 538 as well, although you have to be wary of him. But he's been accurate in the past, despite being way off about Trump in the primary.

154 Keep in mind that the NHS was instituted in Britain in the wake of WWII when the Brits were accustomed to rationing and grateful for any government-provided services. The USA is a different animal entirely. Single payer in the U.S. would be plagued by an entirely different level of 'customer' expectations and frenzied demand for all sorts of "healthcare" services (mental health counseling, tampons, abortions, Viagra, etc).

There will either be massive spending overruns or sharp curtailment in services (rationing); possibly even both at the same time. And if there is rationing there will be a great howling of outrage from the afflicted entitlement crowd.

Which is interesting...considering that the "press," those vaunted
truth-to-power stalwarts asking the tough questions, would give her
softball after softball after softball. She has no reason to fear a
press conference, unless you're counting someone having to prop her up
in front of the tv cameras.
.
.
.
.She can't do press conferences anymore. She has way too many health issues so her handlers can't let her be in an unscripted environment. Way too many things can go wrong even with the softball press questions.

Yeah stopped feeling quite so bad for them after that.

323 I believe what we are seeing in the see-sawing in poll numbers is the 'social acceptability' factor in play. Trump gets a nationwide audience at convention, speaks from prepared speech, does well, social acceptability goes higher, poll numbers climb.

Trump says something of questionable nature, social acceptability drops. Trump voters lie to pollsters about intentions despite not giving a shit about what he said. They've only gone off the radar temporarily. It's what they're going to do November 9th that matters.

Bravo, you acknowledge reality. Yes you are the fringe and even most Republicans can't stand you. Trump is your last hurrah, after his loss you will be permanently ostracized and consigned to the past.

A new modern Republican party will emerge that accepts the ethnic makeup of 21st Century America. Policies will be developed that adresses the needs of the people. The New Republican party that will emerge after Trump's defeat will cosign people like those on this blog to the past.

We are, in fact, a minority. We've been overwhelmed demographically. It's a center-left nation now and conservatism is going to be a regional phenomenon now, at least politically. Conservatives are now going to have to operate on a cultural level and hope that the upcoming 30-50 years of welfare-state socialism teach people that what we've been teaching is true. But my stepsons will have to deal with that question. Unfortunately, you and I will have to watch the decline and hope for the long term. I know this isn't what people want to hear but this is the lay of the land.

No shots fired, grammie. This is what I've been saying it was clear the Trump would be the nominee. It's obvious that "Principled Constitutional Conservatives" are in the minority. It isn't 1776 any more; heck it isn't even 1984. Things have changed due to progressive pressure. As much as I'd love for it to jump back to small/limited government, it isn't going to happen overnight. We have to adapt to reality, place who we can in office, and work from there. Trump has some gaps (not as many as people would claim) so he isn't perfect, but appealing to working class dems and understanding that we can't simply defund all government programs overnight is the first step towards righting the ship in a realistic manner.

345 There is more to the solar subsidies story than meets the eye. Old elites, like Buffet and some other activist investors, don't like new elites shitting in their sand boxes. They are behind taking the subsidies off of solar because they want the 'good' renewable energy - giant, expensive, inefficient windmills that will be generating massive subsidies for generations.

Buffet is a big investor in conventional energy generation. The other old money elites are getting direct payments from us - via our 'government of the people' ruling class.

391 To be fair, there's new evidence that lowering your cholesterol is not the big life saver it was first thought.

At the lower limits the possible side effects from the statins out weighs the benefits of lowering the cholesterol more.

And you NEED cholesterol for your nerves and brain to work properly. It's an insulator.

Too many medical researchers leap out with fantastic claims so they can sell their drug patent and then GTFO. Meanwhile the actual human testing is being done on the populace at large that's being convinced by their doctor this would be good for them.

And also, even those who may need some lowering, if you're of a certain age, the odds aren't really favorable to you.

If you're younger then it might pay off but in your later years (say after about 65-70 the decreased risk is outweighed by your years left).

I know because they wanted to put me on them. And they pushed it a little bit. (not my cardio, my primary care)

I said, the odds aren't that good at my age so I declined. Turns out I was right.

394 J.J.,

Instead of looking at past performance, I would recommend asking to see the money. No pay, no play. The reason for this is that it has been ages since anyone threatened the system to the extent that Trump does. We now have establishment Republicans more-or-less visibly supporting Hillary. So we are no longer in Kansas.

This doesn't mean Trump is going to win in a landslide. Anything could happen, including Hillary's health throwing a wildcard into the game. Or our good old "security" complex could decide that Trump is even more of a threat to national security than, say, Khadaffi was.

Posted by: Lance at August 11, 2016 11:49 AM (IZqFT)

395 Statins are over-prescribed. Hint that the piece featured has pharma-backing is the magnificent minimization if risk, and complete ignoring of how there is actually very little evidence that, apart from select cohorts of patients, mostly with forms or hereditary hypercholesteremis, that lowering cholesterol has much real- worl patient benefit. Statins are a semi-scam...and I can't think of a med better suited to contracted best practice guidelines for prescribing. The drugs are chea for the NHS,, and I wonder if that article isn't distorting the reason for change. Statins are falling out of favor as first resort meds for other reasons.
