Sounds like a living hell.

The following events appeared to originate at the residence and brought trespassers and/or law enforcement to the plaintiffs’ home at all hours of the night and day: stolen cars, fraud related to tax returns and bitcoin, stolen credit cards, suicide calls, private investigators, stolen social media accounts, fund raising events, and numerous other events.

In a new study, researchers from New York University investigated people's responses to both drunk and high sex, and have come up with some pretty interesting insights about which gives you the most benefits, while also putting you at the lowest risk of some of the dangerous - and awkward - pitfalls.

It sounds as if the world has lost another Moron. Quite the author in this guy's circle of friends & family. Have you ever thought of what your circle will say about you when you kick the bucket? Thank you for your service to your country and your city William Ziegler, RIP.

Firearms defender and Sipsey Street Irregulars' Mike Vanderboegh died on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at the age of 64.

Feminism, what is it good for? Not much. No, there is not a Trigglypuff photo link.

Since we are on a feminist tangent at the moment, a city in the U.K. has gone bonkers. Perhaps British men should wear very dark sunglasses if they want to stare at women. When did we go from admiring beauty is the same thing as groping a person? Is one of Rush Limbaugh's undeniable truths of life correct? Feminism was established to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream.

If staring at women is a hate crime. O.K. Morons, hate away.

kate upton .jpg

Apparently women still enjoy jewels. Move over blood diamonds meet blood mica.

Rather than risk ending the illegal mining the provides income for some of India’s poorest, most of the victims’ families choose to accept a payment for their loss instead.

Such was the case in Bihar, where a farmer said he was promised 100,000 rupees ($1,500) after the death of his 16-year-old son in an unregulated mica mine in the neighboring state of Jharkhand on June 23.

“I didn’t know how dangerous the work in the mines is. Had I known, I would never have let him go,” Vasdev Rai Pratap told the Thomson Reuters Foundation. “They said it took almost a day to dig out his body after the mine collapsed. They cremated him without telling me. I didn’t even see my boy before they set him alight.”

Neither has he received his compensation.

"They" have always told us to be careful about putting certain things into our bodies. The reasoning? Well, you never know where that thing has been. Or in this instance where the information is going to be sent. Perhaps aluminum foil will be found on night stands from now on.

Frequent flyers, what are some of your "pet peeves"? Talkative people, sick people, crying babies? What about a monkey?

Yes, there is a song that sort of, in an ONT kind of way, fits the occassion.

And finally. A look back into history. On this date August 14, 1945 - V-J Day, commemorating President Truman's announcement that Japan had surrendered to the Allies.

truman-announce.jpg

Talk about a time when Red Lines had definition. After two Atomic Bomb drops were dropped. And the realization that continuation of the war would only result in more Japanese deaths. Emperor Hirohito accepted Allied surrender terms originally issued at Potsdam on July 26, 1945.

You want Mega Bucks, you would settle for a stale cup of coffee from the 7-11, you'll get the AoSHQ Yahoo Group

Tonight's ONT has been brought to you by the original episode of "Get off my lawn!!!"

23 Watching an old Chaplin documentary, I took a look at the bio of Jackie Coogan of Chaplin's film The Kid, and probably better known as Uncle Fester on The Addams Family.

From Wiki:

"World War II

Coogan enlisted in the U.S. Army in March 1941. After the attack on Pearl Harbor that December, he requested a transfer to Army Air Forces as a glider pilot because of his civilian flying experience. After graduating from glider school, he was made a flight officer,[19] and he volunteered for hazardous duty with the 1st Air Commando Group.[20]

In December 1943, the unit was sent to India. He flew British troops, the Chindits, under General Orde Wingate on March 5, 1944, landing them at night in a small jungle clearing 100 miles (160 km) behind Japanese lines in the Burma Campaign.[21][22]"

Dude had serious balls.

24 Flight pet peeves? Impingement on my seat space, whether through excessive bulk or noise or smell or discourtesy. I can tolerate a whole lot, as long as I have that little space as an oasis.

Worst case was a 14 hour flight out of SFO next to some guy from Fiji who was on Hajj. I don't think he had washed at all since setting out from Fiji.

25 Heh, in my research on the "UFO" series, I stumbled across a meme. It was one of the purple haired moon base gals in one of those fishnet tops and a micro-mini skit. The caption reads, "The Future. What happened to it?"

99 Burning that stuff in the desert, you got it easy.

Try rain forest in the mud, rain, and mosquitoes plus pesky things like anacondas. And then the DetCo decides to move the barrel using a forklift that promptly gets mired in the gelatinous squelching mud so now he sends a bigger forklift that also gets stuck so then we use chains to tie it all together with an M-35 that is still on solid ground. And remember the first forklift still has stuck in its raised tines the sh!t barrel.

I prefer to forget those days.

113 There was a time in my career, before 9/11, when I flew out of SFO weekly. One time on a flight to DC the guy next to me started looking at his watch, then looking at me. Then he started tapping his watch, then looking at me. Then he put his watch up to his ear, looking at me. He obviously wanted to tell me something.

So then he says, "Watch stopped."

I got right up and told the flight attendant I needed to be reseated. Fortunately I had enough mileage that I got a different seat immediately.

Yes, there were a high number of Japanese casualties from the two nuclear bombings. Hiroshima was probably close to Dresden, and much less than the firebombing of Tokyo. One bomb as opposed to thousands of bombs. How much difference did it make?

146 Jinx, the door sag is because one or both of the door hinge bushings have worn out. The KG has a very long door and gravity plus use. And the '74 never had a rear seat, VW deleted it from that year model so they wouldn't have to install seat-belts. Considering how small that rear seat was anyway, only small kids could fit back there.

But it is underneath that we get into buyer beware. Don't believe the hype on the pans. If you look at some of the pictures there is what looks like a rubber weather-striping hanging underneath the driver side rocker. Another photo shows where the driver rocker should be two, what looks like metal electrical conduits. That should not be there. The main wiring harness runs on the driver side INSIDE the rocker while fuel line, brake line, and clutch cable run through the center tunnel.

There are some downsides to taking testosterone -- read all about it before you decide. One big one is it increases PSA -- may increase the risk of prostate cancer. But it certainly can worsen prostate enlargement.

Insurance usually won't cover T-shots unless you meet the criteria for medically warranted low testosterone levels, "hypogonadism".

The saddest thing is that all these disenfranchised Black males are angry at the wrong people--it's not Generic Whitey who did in the Black community, it's the White Dems who count on your votes who want to keep Black America on the plantation. Same people who sanctimoniously chop up Black babies and sell the bits for profit, which has to be one of the slickest and most evil cons in all of history.

And now, he's dead. He had a tumor.

Moral: Don't see any performer you like at Bogart's Cafe in Cincinnati. They'll end up dead.

218 Talk about a time when Red Lines had definition. After two Atomic Bomb drops were dropped. And the realization that continuation of the war would only result in more Japanese deaths. Emperor Hirohito accepted Allied surrender terms originally issued at Potsdam on July 26, 1945.
-------------------

By strange coincidence, I was reading The United States Strategic Bombing Survey's report on "Japan's Struggle to End the War" earlier today. I found it in the Navy Department Library (I initially went there due to the link to the Japanese report on The Battle of Midway, written by Admiral Nagumo).

The takeaways that I got were -

1.) Everyone knew that the writing was on the wall, and there was a powerful peace faction in the government. But information on the desperate state of the war was withheld from the general population (meaning that there was little pressure from the mass population to end the war, because they general population didn't realize how dire things were), and the military refused because of point 2 below. Due to the lack of concensus in the government, no action was taken.
2.) The military hoped to provoke a US invasion that would cause such heavy casualties among the US troops landing on the Home Islands that the US would agree to a negotiated settlement, instead of the Unconditional Surrender that the Allies were demanding. (which also would have killed a lot of Japanese civilians)
3.) The Japanese government made an attempt to set up communications with the US via the Soviets (who the Japanese still had a non-aggression pact with) immediately prior to the Potsdam Conference (which the Japanese knew about), but were informed that Stalin had already left for Potsdam and he'd speak to the Japanese when he returned. This ultimately went nowhere because the Soviets declared war on Japan before the Japanese could renew their attempts. Knowing the Soviets, my suspicion is that the inability of the Japanese to achieve anything with their attempts to use a Soviet go-between was because Stalin knew that if the war ended too quickly, he wouldn't be able to "liberate" any territory from the Japanese.

And shortly after the Soviet declaration of war, Hiroshima happened on August 6, which rammed home the point that the US didn't even really need to invade the islands to destroy Japan (though oddly the earlier fire bombing - which was arguably even worse - hadn't done the same thing). Curiously, the early portions of the report (which is what I looked at) doesn't mention anything about the Nagasaki bomb, though the report does mention that a captured B-29 crew member told his captors that the US was planning on dropping another atomic bomb on Tokyo on August 12 (a blatant lie as iirc the US didn't have any more bombs in inventory, and the US wanted to keep the Japanese government mostly intact so that there would be someone who could surrender).

And only on August 10th did the Japanese, after Hirohito supported the prime minister to end the war that the inner cabinet even accepted surrender. But wait, the night before the Emperor's broadcast, members of the Japanese General Staff invaded the Emperor's residence in search of the prerecorded broadcast. Luckily they did not find the record and Japan was told to endure the unendurable.

Still, not trusting the military, Hirohito ordered propellers to be removed from all Japanese airplanes before the Allies sailed into Tokyo Bay for the surrender.

It's amazing how much you can lose. It's slow and you don't realize it. Remember when you were a teenager, about 18 or so and how damn horny you could get. Instant turgidity at the slightest stimulus, and you'd dry hump the furniture?

Well, about 2 days after the first shot, I remembered that. It wasn't that strong, but it was getting in the same order of magnitude.

Me, I like the female butt-tocks (say that like Forrest Gump). Well, about 2-days after, some of this little hottie bee-hinds I was seeing had me sucking air through my teeth, just like when I was a randy teenager.

268 @239 Junior, Hiroshima happened. The Soviets declared war. Nagasaki happened.
---------------------

Like I said, there's no mention of Nagasaki in the report I read (which was written in 1946). And as I indicated, Hiroshima seems to have been what pushed the actual government (as opposed to the military - and the government was continually worried about the possibility of a military coup throughout the last year or so of the war) to immediately sue for peace.

As for the Soviets - it's questionable what would have happened if the Soviets had set up the requested channel between the US and Japan. Certain elements of the Japanese government were still convinced that they could eventually force the Allies to come to a negotiated settlement instead of forcing Japan to Unconditionally Surrender. But based on the timing of everything, I suspect that Stalin had zero interest in allowing the war to end before the Soviets had "liberated" territory in the Far East.

You have a good eye, Anna. That looks to me like a rusty 126,000 mile car that has been doctored up. The undercoat looks very fresh, right out of a spray can. It's got rubber fuel hoses running along the edge of the floor pan. (I plan on doing that to the '74 Super Beetle, using hard line, but I'm not going to represent it as anything other than a beater, either.) The engine has been out, and the heat exchangers painted with aluminum paint; should be black. And there are one or two spots where you can see rust peeking out from behind old, peeled undercoat.

301 One of the things Ol' Red did that really made an impression. Back when I was a stupid teenager. I guess around 16 or 17, a friend of mine were down "at the Store", a little local hangout. We made fun of some other boy for crying, said something about "crying for his mama".

Ol' Red didn't cotton to that. He said, let me tell you something boys. He told the story of how young men, dying, having their guts splattered all over the place and limbs blown off would call for their mothers as their dying words.

He was pissed off, and his eyes got distant and he did a blood curdling impression of some 18 year old calling "Mama?!"

He'd heard that many times. And I'll tell you this. No woman with a son should ever hear that impression. She couldn't take it.

I've mentioned before that I knew some red army vets who served in the GPW. One was a sturmovik - shock-trooper, submachine gun, grenades, lopata (entrenching tool), and benezedrine - who fought from Leningrad to Berlin.

By the time they hit Berlin, he came to hate kids..... they had no conception of what theu were doing, no vision of a future, and, as he said, the kids were scared but having fun.

Told the story of their having to flush out a little brat who took a box of grenades and hid out on the upper floor of a wrecked apartment. Said they coild see him grinning as he chucked grenades.

328 If you can find it, watch that educational video I mentioned the other day about pressure and watermelons. Two budding young scientists, in bikinis, kept putting rubber bands around a large watermelon until exploded all them.

Then they cleaned it off. And they didn't use their hands to do the cleaning. Well, they used their hands, but if I didn't know better, they seemed to be purposely smearing watermelon in interesting places, necessitating the cleaning.

If that doesn't get you excited, do indeed check those testosterone levels.

The kid would not. stop. fighting. and surrender, even when he was well and truly captured. According to the natural laws of "conservation of dickitude", this means that: (a) the press thinks it hurts Trump to agree with Hezbollah and would lie to portray this; (b) Hezbollah would lie and say Obama was responsible for ISIS, or Hezbollah would tell the truth and say Obama was responsible for ISIS -- based on whether it helped-or-hurt Trump regardless of accuracy; and (c) Obama would deny being responsible for ISIS because he's never been responsible for anything.

Seems like a long, long train of collusion to avoid, "Trump accurately identifies Obama's policies as midwife to ISIS, Hezbollah sees no benefit in denial."

Breaking the 4th wall here -- there's nothing good that can come from this. Your mom had a crisis where emergency measures were necessary -- if she'd had gangrene in her foot, a similar procedure would have been to amputate mid-shin. And, thankfully, it seems that electroshock may have saved her life.

But you have been entirely correct in being suspicious and guarded against this treatment. And it shouldn't even be joked about as a general treatment for minor situations -- or as a "what else might this be good for?" It need face the same initial concern as "what else might foot amputation be good for?"

Low libido, atrophied sex-drive, and apathy shouldn't begin to make the cut.

And I should note, your mom and your family have been in my thoughts and prayers a lot, lately.

Well, I'm sure it's not likely to be anything to be overly worried about. Quite often, such symptoms are benign. Not yours at all. You were just having fun with my "Freudian slip" and I was egging it on. You may not have even seen me talking about my mother over the last few months.
She had no history of this, nothing clinical. It was psychotic depression and that usually doesn't come on out of the blue. In most cases, one has to go through several depressive episodes before it goes psychotic.
They're all sure it was an effect of the surgery. I didn't know this, but they're finding evidence that major inflammation can affect the brain, and really mess things up in the elderly. The docs were saying they've seen many cases where someone in their 80s had some sort of severe psychiatric symptoms after surgery. My mother's regular doctor, who's a pretty good guy, was surprised they went to ECT so quickly. He was sure it would resolve on its own, being that temporary effect. But the psychiatrists didn't think she'd last long enough, and it would be terrible to let her stay in that state to see.
They'll be putting my mother's case in the books as more evidence of this risk of surgery in the elderly.
And I'm not going to let her have any more major surgery unless it's to save her life or something.

We seem to share many of the same views and values, and I was similarly horrified when her caregivers went there....but I'm also realistic enough to know that time keeps ticking away and option-windows have a tendency to close. I'm thankful that it appears to have worked, because applying such a procedure when it didn't work is nightmare territory.

That said, I continue to be worried about the effects this procedure has left on your mom and your family, and earnestly hope that you can be well in its aftermath.

445 Their judgement, the psychiatrists was, her age and she didn't want to eat. Just sitting there like a lump, and without proper nutrition, she wouldn't last long at her age. It made it an emergency, one where ECT jumps to the front of the line. She hadn't responded a bit to the drugs they tried, and after two weeks, they moved to ECT.

I think a younger person who is actively suicidal will meet this emergency criteria as well.

There's nothing bad, no side effect I can detect yet. Well, her hair is getting thin, alopecia, something she never had before, and urgency urinary incontinence has popped up. But those don't seem to be any side effects of ECT. The latter may be one of the new drugs, and maybe the former. But these are not worrisome yet, just annoying to her.

457 I'm reading this 'Blacklisted By History' book and it's really astonishing how many horrible policy decision the US made on the prompting of known Soviet agents, especially in backing Mao and Tito rather than the anti-Communist choices in both cases. If we'd given less support to the Soviets they'd likely have still beaten the Germans but at such a cost to them that they'd have been far weaker in the aftermath and prevented so many of the territorial grabs after the official war was over.

So much of what happened could have been prevented, sparing great cost in lives and treasure to the US. All because a small cadre of Communists were allowed to manipulate information and thus policy.

This in turn makes me wonder how much influence Muslim agents or sympathizers are wielding today.

OSHA wants to fine the shit out of them for allegedly exposing workers to asbestos in a school demolition and the corrupt DOJ wants to go with criminal charges. I can tell you that whether they are really guilty or not they will get shit on because under the regulatory dictatorship we have now you are guilty until you can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that you are innocent and threaten to take them to court. The company maintains the OSHA "facts" are all wrong and have no basis. OSHA is another one of those federal regulatory squads that should be eliminated and turned over to the States. OSHA was formed under a complete Democrat congress and signed into law by the most liberal Republican President in history, Richard Nixon.

506 The OSHA rules on asbestos removal are extremely stringent. It wouldn't take much laxity to run afoul of them. It's about as stringent as working in a Bio Safety Level 3 laboratory. The whole area must be tented, under negative pressure, all workers in air supplied suits while inside, wash down procedures to leave the work area, regular air sampling, lots of training etc.

As you might expect, that also makes it a very expensive process. Reading the article, if they were using non-English speaking Mexican workers without the appropriate training materials and instructors in Spanish, yeah they violated the law. And if they faked the training records, same thing. Someone's going to jail.

I would not automatically say that they were in violation of the asbestos rules. All you really need is some goo0d supervision and directions if you are using low quality workers.

And I am familiar with OSHA as well. I would not trust them any further than I could throw them. And that goes for most federal inspectors who come in. 99% of their time is spent auditing paper anyway. It's hot and dirty out there in the field don't you know.

One of the first houses the wife and I looked at here in PA had some very suspicious looking insulation on, and around the boiler in the basement. The realtor was prattling on about this and that....and when I asked specifically about the dodgy looking insulation, and commented on it's similarity to asbestos, she shut right the hell up.

Incitement?

Incitement to commit a crime is a common law misdemeanour, even though the crime be not committed. If the crime be actually committed, the person inciting is an accessory before the fact in the case of felony, and equally guilty, in the case of treason or misdemeanour, with the person who commits the crime.

526 Oh, and I think I know what happened to the Rio pools to cause them to turn green and smell like farts. They crossed the streams. And as we all know before Ghostbusters rebooted and crossed their own streams, you never cross the streams

There are two types of pool chemistries, free chlorine based and ozone/hydrogen peroxide based. I've used both in my pool. But you can't mix the chemicals from the two systems. They dumped hydrogen peroxide into a chlorine pool, knocking out all the free chlorine and the algaecide. Then, in desperation, they added copper sulfate to kill the algae, but the peroxide ate that up and made hydrogen sulfide as a by-product (the fart smell). The copper sulfate is also what turned that bleached blond swimmer's white hair blue-green. They musta dumped in a LOT of it.

So, finally, they did the right thing and drained the pool and started over from scratch.

So, now you know more about what happened than NBC; a not uncommon occurrence at all.

Hydrogen sulfide is a poisonous gas that will kill your ass stone dead. It has more of a "rotten egg" smell. I used to be a qualified "void opener" in the Navy and that was one of the things you had to look for when you first popped the cover.
It is also a sneaky gas. You will have a strong smell to begin with then it will deaden your sniffer and it will seem like the gas has cleared up and gone away. That's when it kills you.

We assumed it was leaking into the lake...there are a lot of older homes around that lake, with prehistoric septic systems. Most can't be simply fixed...since laws mandate that those septic systems can't be repaired without bringing them up to modern standards. Most lots won't perk, all the homeowners know this, and a failed perk test means the home is condemned. So...most 'maintenance' is done by the homeowners without permits, or inspections. You can imagine the mess that makes of things.

Asbestos was used in more than just pipe and attic insulation; it also was used in floor tiles and roofing shingles.

Posted by: GnuBreed at August 15, 2016 07:14 AM (gyKtp)

The house we eventually bought was built in 1896. Horse hair plaster...real horse hair, I tested it. Vermiculite insulation. The heating system was modern, gas furnace/boiler, modern electrical system, and a connection to municipal sewer.

539 531 >> Hydrogen sulfide is a poisonous gas that will kill your ass stone dead. It has more of a "rotten egg" smell.

Posted by: Vic

All true. But, at lower levels it just smells bad (the 'fart' smell). I imagine they had enough air handling volume to keep the level well below deadly. Small amounts of hydrogen sulfide are added to natural gas so you can smell any leaks; natural gas has no odor.

it. He was set for life. A very short one.

Drug money. Temporary capital from buying and selling drugs. Most of it probably really belonged to the man above him.
If he lost it he would not have had to worry about that cop shooting him.

541 It is amazing what kinds of cases that judges are allowing to go forward. Here we have an atheist filing a suit against the Bowling Green, KY fire department where he formerly worked. He was offended by a film showing a fire fighter burning a Koran.

542 It's mid August and you know what that means??

Skunks wandering through the yard at midnite.
One wandered through last night and it was so damn stinky I woke up with my sinuses blocked and a god awful taste in my mouth.
Stayed up for 2 hours waiting for the smell to thin out so I could get back to sleep.

543 TP -

Can't remember who it was, but one of the Qing emperors settled the hash of his litigious subjects. He Instructed court officials at all levels to be as rude and uncooperative as possible in dealing with civil plaintiffs, and removed penalties for bureaucratic inefficiency. The idea was to make going to court such a hassle and an ordeal that people would settle things among themselves rather than deal with those officious idiots at the courthouse.

Well, actually methyl mercaptan, which does smell bad too.

The human nose can usually smell H2S down to about 100 ppb concentration in the air. But long term exposure does lead to de-sensitization.

545 Ripley that's great. You will still need to monitor what they are teaching your kids but they are better off than in most government schools.

Both of our boys got pulled out years ago and the Mrs homeschooled them. If you can find any way to do that it's very effective.

Posted by: freaked at August 15, 2016 07:28 AM (BO/km)

546 Maybe I misread that fired firefighter story, but I think it was he who burned a Koran and posted video of it, got fired for it, and is suing under freedom of speech to get his job back.

And if that is the case, I hope he wins. Same thing applies to the GA cop that got fired for flying a confederate flag at her home.

I'm betting she's not going to. She's between a rock and a hard place.

Interesting piece. It conjures up visions of burnt buildings and looted stores. Would make nice background music for a video of the destruction wrought on our cities.

Oh, my bad. They used to use H2S, once upon a time. Yeah, all the volatile sulfur compounds (thiols) stink. Skunks use 3 different thiol compounds in their spray.

556 This is what they said in additon to him acknowledging that there was a video:

Firefighters also used anti-gay, racial and ethnic slurs when discussing
members of the community, according to Queen, who alleges that he
witnessed one firefighter burn the Quran and mock the Islamic call to
prayer in a 2015 incident outside the BGFD Airport Station.

so maybe he watched them burn it and made the video himself. But the story is still he "was offended" by them burning a Koran while he was an atheist.

It is a BS suit. Now if they had fired him for burning a Koran at home I would say he had a case.

557 Well, two cups of coffee and the odd flavor because of the skunk is still there.
I'm reminded of what our great leader BHO once said,

BLM was supposed to sit down and shut up for a while after the Baton Rouge murders. Between the cop shootings and "peaceful protests" it was getting to much negative attention that could not be ignored and LIV's were noticing the Dems supported them. I have no doubt Dems are scurrying ti get their BLM friends in line so Hillary won't be pt on the spot. After the election the have permission to go wild.

562 I kind of like skunk scent. It feels like the outdoors.

But that's the whiff of skunk scent from a mile off. The vague essence of it.

Our very furry dog got hit dead on by a skunk a couple of years ago. Imagine Chewbacca holding a skunk that goes off.

It's like nothing you can imagine. It's chemical warfare. I thought skunks were just a bit of interesting nature but when they hit your dog full in the chest it's a week of shampoo and tomato juice and no you can't come in the house.

I guess I could have read the article...

I did see a pic of someone holding the burned Koran; I thought it was from his social media site but now I'm not so sure.

Yeah, sounds like whiny 'atheist' dude sucks to have as a co-worker.
