12 Willowed:

The "for the good of the country" angle is interesting, since it's
basically a free pass to do anything they want to Trump. Anything that
would be considered bad form, cheating, slimy, what-have-you, can now be
written off as "just trying to save America from Hitler!".

The debates will easily fall into that category.

Since
they've convinced all the "smart" set that a vote for Trump means
you're an inbred racist (who didn't see that coming??), the BIG money
donors will poor hundreds of millions into campaign ads for Hillary.
Hell, I wouldn't be shocked if the MSM just gave Hillary free ad time,
assuming the FCC or FEC wouldn't find out until after the race and would
then say "nothing to see here..sure it was criminal,
but...but...TRUMP!"

I don't hold much hope that Trump can defeat
the forces arrayed against him without divine intervention or something
on Hillary that simply cannot be covered up, lest the UN intervene and
say "ok guys, we were good with everything but this shit is a bridge too
far."

I think even regular waterslides seemed a bit like a death trap for kids. It's a wonder none of us drowned.

In Colorado, they have this 'alpine slide' thing in the summer on the ski slopes, kind of like a waterslide with no water. There was a girl as a kid who had this big hoop earrings, and she went way off the tracks and the earring ripped off and she was bleeding all over the place. Gruesome.

I'd never go in for a procedure like that, where I could be "interrogated" while in the doped-up recovery stage. I have enough problems keeping the skeletons in their respective last-scene-from-Indiana Jones-scale-assorted-warehouses.

*shudders*

I have though, arranged to be left to sit in a recovery area for a couple extra hours, undisturbed. Till I can gather my few remaining wits about me, as it were.

Now then, off to Depot to buy sheetrock n' lumber. Nothing so fun as the tearing apart of one's house, fixing termite damage. Dammit.

The "refugees" were marching in protest of a new housing complex that was just built for them - it did not meet their standards, so authorities are looking for country homes for them. Really.

Reminds me of the New Orleans Section 8 lady who was profiled in the papers after Katrina, showing her nice brick home w/big screen tv (she was 2nd or 3rd generation welfare) - she said something like: "I'm poor, but I don't like to live poor."

I remember having mine out, Blubell. Three impacted wisdom teeth at the age of 30. One minute watching the hustle and bustle in the operating room and the next minute I was blindly stuffing my wallet, keys and pocket knife that I'd stripped out before the surgery and given to my ride back into my pockets, falling backwards into the waiting wheelchair and saying, "see I have it completely under control"

My first meal after getting off my friend's sofa after 8 hours of getting the anesthesia out of my system was a bag of fried gizzards. That was a bad choice.

I am pretty sure I should have spent another 4 hours on the couch to let my system get a bit cleaner.

Yeah, but there's no life in this painting. Goya, for example, was not a master technician like, say, Rubens or Titian, but his subjects came through: the viewer has a feel for the personalities of the people he painted. But this painting? Tommasoremains a mystery, although I gather he's the pious, praying sort who likes to pretend he's a mannikin.

Some people appreciate exacting verisimulitude in paintings: themeticulously paintedgrain of the woodin the door, the perfectly rendered half-moon of the fingernails, the veinous translucency of a fly's wing, that sort of thing. Give me Rembrandt any day.

264 136 ... troyriser, Can't argue about Rembrandt. Memling's faces and poses were quiet portraits and detailed but not active. I wonder had he painted a century and a half later in Rembrandt's time, if he would have incorporated the liveliness and humor of Rembrandt's portraits. I think their skill levels were similar.

I love The Kinks. They were great, and Ray Davies wrote with wit and humour. Some of their singles were sublime.
But that's the thing. They were "too" British. Too many of their songs were in the British music hall tradition and were lost on Americans. I've never been able to get all the way through any of their albums--including Muswell Hillbillies.

The Rolling Stones were VERY American-centric.

I never saw The Stones live, but I did see The Kinks and they were great, but you can't simply dismiss ALL of The Stones post-78 work. Tattoo You had some great songs--as do all their albums. Even Steel Wheels had a few keepers. Of course they put out nothing that would equal their '60's classics, and none of their later albums could touch their '68-'72 Mick Taylor albums.
But it was a different era--times and musical tastes were different and they tried keeping up by incorporating later genres. For the most part they succeeded. Even their disco-tinged singles didn't suck.

But they could have played all their hits in 3 chords and gone home, but they didn't. They jammed, they rocked.

After Exile, they had some good songs here and there, but never attained the level they were at from 1968-72.

Stephen King also claims Dallas (the city)was collectively, unconciously responsible for JFK's assassination. Bad vibes or something.

Of course, the Left can never admit that Lee Harvey Oswald, that 'dirty little communist' as Jackie called him, was solely responsible.

I was in the nosebleeds somewhere.

At Gillette I was on the field. They had a satellite stage and a catwalk. They came out and did four or five songs in front of me. I was maybe 20 feet away.

The Stones have been my idols since I was ten years old. They were always larger than life. I had posters, I cut pictures out of Rolling Stone. They were huge.

I was amazed seeing them close up that they are all little tiny human beings.

Like they're all 5'6" and 110 lbs. You don't notice it because they're all midgets so they're in proportion to each other.

549 C'mon.
The Kinks eat their lunch at every point on timeline.
And at least the Kinks gave you something new. The Stones never made anything as good as Muswell Hillbillies.

Posted by: garrett at August 10, 2016 11:42 AM (c1srJ)

The Kinks were very good in the 60s, in fact their songs are very underappreciated and some of the best of that time. By the early 70s they got very silly and dull but made some decent albums in the late 70s and early 80s. But Stones made held up much better in the 70s with the exception of the Black and Blue album which blew.

551 The Stones were better once they (apparently) got techs to tune their guitars. They seemed incapable of doing that themselves early on.

Hurt my ears. They were badly out of tune when they played the Super Bowl too, don't know what the problem was there.

559 I kinda think the Stones don't get their proper do because they never broke up and therefore were never "missed" like The Beatles and others.
But a lot of their early pre-"Satisfaction" stuff is very dated.

I actually like a lot of their early and obscure stuff, when they were a white-boy blues band. But I will give them their props for having endured.

561 Stephen King
What he took from me, my time, my peace of mind and my ease of body, are simply gone and no court can bring them back, King said in a statement that was read in Oxford County Superior Court in January after Smith entered his plea.

King was angry that Smith didn't get any jail time.

Smith died within a year:
There was no sign of violence or trauma when Smith, 43, was found dead Friday in the mobile home on Route 302 in Fryeburg where he lived with his two dogs
