It's not just pop media either. There was an NRO article from the Bush era that pointed out that if the GOP just set up voluteer voter outreach centers in major metros that gave free English lessons to immigrants in the '80's, we wouldn't have to watch the current GOP become the Dem-Lite party.
The Left has almost completed it's march through the institutions. It wasn't a quick march for sure. It was a slow, calculated, and *surprise* effective one.

On the other hand, the fact that Wikileaks has a searchable database of the emails, complete with attachments, suggests to me that the DNC email server itself was hacked or that it was leaked purposely by an insider with root access to the server. This wasn't a mere hack into some lowly staffers machine.

I've seen rumblings on teh Twatters about Russia trying something with Ukraine via Crimea soon, but who knows.
Anyway, I'm of the (minority) opinion NATO should have disbanded after the Cold War. Exhibit A to reinforce that is Turkey's actions in the 2000's. btw, speaking of Russia, Erdogan is trying to "turn the page" with Russia.
I'm not so sure that'll work long-term, but a Russia/Turkish partnership would be at least problematic for NATO in the short run.

I don't think it's awful. I re-saw it a few years back and was surprised it wasn't as bad as I remembered. Kind of pretty good.
But such a giant letdown after the Road Warrior.
As Blanco Basura said, it's two weak sci-fi-(ish) concepts that couldn't stand on their own, just jammed together to try to come up with one serviceable premise. Doesn't really work.

I like that movie. I have only one big thing against it: There's not a single night scene. All in daylight, because it's cheaper to film in daylight.
A Terminator movie should be set mostly at night.
But I liked the ending. Liked the 1970s Crystal Mountain base with the ancient computers. Liked that the whole idea that they were going to stop Judgment Day was a fiction, a lie told to get them to safety.
Liked the TX-- one of the few female physical-threat villains that I thought actually worked.
Great chase with that hercules crane truck.

A lot of the people they show in Bartertown older than Max would have been average citizens back in good old civilization, but they set the whole thing up like its a hundreds-of-years-old culture rather than something with remnants of civilization still picking up the pieces.

I believe the commander of a boat is called Captain, which is not just a rank, but a designation of who controls the damn boat.
When other captains come aboard, or captains from the army, they aren't called "Captain." They're called "Commodore" or some other term to avoid calling them Captain.
A ship can only have one captain-called-captain on it.

I understand what he means by "amateurish", it sorta is.... but, Mad Max 2 was an extension of what he did on Mad Max, just with a bigger budget. It's not "flashy" in that the scenes, direction and editing follow what was wanted in the storyboard and damn anything else. It works to the movies advantage, despite some blemishes. It's simple, but extremely effective. It's not slick, but it's spectacular. If movie makers today would learn from the less is more used in MM and MM2 , we'd get better action flicks.

Part of The Road Warrior is the story of lawful authority descending into vendetta using it's remaining threads of authority to create havoc and seeking death and revenge, not justice.
This is a story deep from Australia's beginning, and it comes from the Scottish borderlands where the Marches on both sides were maintained by the Marshals who used all possible means to beat back the "riding surnames" the border reivers, that would raid across in both directions. And all possible means included using the same terror tactics across the border to the point it was hard to tell which were the lawful authority and which were the reivers.
But I don't remember a lot of subtlety in the filming, and if you don't have a feeling for the basic story and background, a lot of it is just Kung-Fu theatre.

In naval tradition, the CO of the ship is CO of the shop. All orders come through him about running the ship. If the admiral wants the ship to do something, he tells the captain, who gives the orders. The admiral never gives orders directly.

I used to be the dock-boy at a marina. I remember a lot of dudes making a big show of addressing each other as "captain" as they navigated their boats to the dock.
They really seemed to get off on the convention of it.
I never heard so many "captain" titles in my life.

The original will always be THE "Mad Max" to me. I feel the same about MM2 as you do about MM1. A bit too different, I guess. Didn't feel quite like it was actually the same character or world... still a great action flick and very well done. Thunderdome was a mess. It was sort of obvious at the time it going to be a bunch of setpieces thrown together with too many cooks. It was a bit of a cokefest. No compla9ints on that score. But, the end result is what it is.

Jim can probably give you the exact size, but at some point you have to have a captains license to pilot a boat.
I worked with a guy who had a 35 ft Catalina sailboat, but he desperately wanted that Captains license so he got it.
Then, and this is the good part because we're talking about shop workers more or less, he buys a
Captains uniform, complete with gold braiding and fancy hat, etc. My lack of proper vocabulary shouldn't stop you from imagining Capn Crunch with a more modern hat.
He wore it to work once.

Last weekend I played for something interesting.
In Carthage, MO, a sleepy little town almost no one else has ever heard of, a festival takes place every August. It is described as the largest religious pilgrimage in North America.
Marian Days is a three-day festival/celebration by (and for) Vietnamese Catholics. It culminates in a 2+ hour outdoor Catholic Mass that is primarily conducted/sung in Vietnamese, and is accompanied by a mixed orchestra.
This year it was performed in front of an estimated 80,000 people. And I was in the orchestra.
Kind of a remarkable event, really. It was cool to be a part of it.

Some of the early 70/80s motocross gear was just repurposed hockey pads. I had a pair of those "motocross" gloves with the foam stitched to them like you see in the movie. That was the high end of protective gear they were wearing.

Well, I'm the Skipper of a 27' Hunter sailboat. I have a logbook so that I can keep track of my time on the water, a certain number of hours are required for a Captain's license.

yeah it was really good. it tricked me, because it played with the Is Deckard a Replicant idea to distract you from the real plot.
One interesting thing, which was weird, was the pedophilia angle, because this hot chick is, you know, only like two weeks old, and her immaturity shows through with her childlike "What's your favorite color?" question.

Because in most jurisdictions you can't legally take on charters unless you hold a Captain's license. Had a friend who was working towards his license specifically so he could take charters out on day fishing trips in SoCal and offset some of the cost for his trawler. Funny thing though, he was notoriously lax when it came to preparation. I did lots of fishing trips with him and we ALWAYS had problems......preventable problems.

i liked that. I don't want every movie to have the Rocky Underdog Gets His Wish plot. I liked that even though Rogan was the hero of his own life story, to the viewer, he was not the hero. he was a dangerous guy who should not be a cop.

It's a horror, but not biological horror; it's a horror of wincing at someone's gruesome mangling of proper behavior.
It makes people wince -- me too -- but I like that kind of movie, done well.
The british "The Office" is an example of Social Horror.

The best show I saw in that crappy theater was the Firehouse/Alice In Chains/Masters of Reality show. It was a horrible combination; Masters was Ginger Baker's most recent blues/classic rock combo that was great but clashed completely with crappy soft hair metal Firehouse and total hardcore thrash Alice In Chains. Whoever put that together was an idiot.

Let's be honest: there's a lot of spots in both movies where there's literally nobody to root for.
But neither Burgess nor Kubrick was offering a comedic theme in their work except to mock the viewer.
After the mall cop shoots the kid, it could have turned a lot more insistent on the tragedy i think.
To make it simple, rogan's character should have died in a escalator accident.

Heh. One of my buddies loved Scarface. For years afterwards he called everyone "cockaroach", especially me. See, I was the youngster in our group (on average I was about 10 years younger than the rest), and for a short while I was "grasshopper" (like the student in Kung Fu). But when Scarface came out, grasshopper became cockaroach, and it later morphed into "cockaroacha" which became my kind of permanent nickname back then.

The average fishing charter captain, holds a USCG Captain's License, commonly known as a "Six Pack", in that he can board, besides himself, a total of six souls on any given vessel, no matter how large it may be.
The average fishing charter boat is nothing more than an everyday boat that is carrying the required loadout of PFDs, sound and signaling equipment and other such as the USCG requires.
Moving up in the world, a professional Merchant Marine Captain will carry a "tonnage" license, indicative of commercial vessels, or larger charter luxury yachts or fishing "party boats" which carry more people on board?
How many, you ask? That varies boat by boat, and is determined by the USCG and the vessel's owner or assigned Captain, conducting exhaustive stability tests involving (usually) 100s of bags of concrete, laid upon the outboard-most deck of the boat until a certain angle of heel is noted, and the same is repeated for any upper decks or flybridge.
Complex mathematical formulas are calculated, and a sum is arrived at from those weights and angles, which is translated as to the combined numbers of passengers and crew allowed embarkation.
Further, the Captain and crew are intensively drilled at sea to test for competency in navigation, ship handling, man overboard response and retrieval (terribly difficult, this), fire control readiness, first aid and more.
In the end, if successful, the vessel is awared a "Certificate of Inspection" (COI), and it, along with the calculated USCG Gross Tonnage of the ship, is noted on it's documents.
Used to be, the Tonnage license could be had for a 25 ton Captain. This is no more. The beginning point is now 100 tons. That would be just barely enough to command about 2/3 of the fleet from the Deadliest Catch. The next step up in the 200 ton ticket.
Here's the rub.
You can take a vessel rated at 40 net tons, with a COI for 39 souls on board. But if all you have available is a "Six Pack" Captain, well, those six plus him, are the limit to have on board.
Here's another rub. A rich idiot can own a 65 ft. Berger Motoryacht, displacing 50+ tons, and drive the damn thing with no license or qualifications at all.
Fortunately, that which the USCG doesn't forbid, the insurance companies tightly control.
Most heavy yacht owners employ a qualified captain to not only run the boat, but to manage it on a day to day basis as well. Very few owners sink in the time, study and effort required for them to attain their own license.
And the insurance will damn sure demand a duly licensed Captain at the helm, or the insurance will forfeit.
Seems to mostly work out well. Except for Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack.

Imagine someone from 1978 New York City being transported to 1998 New York City, they would barely recognize it. Yes, a lot of the buildings would be the same, but the city itself was "different".
As for "average citizens", average citizens are the ones that do the heavy lifting in war, and all they need is proper direction. In this case, Auntie knew how to set up a civilization, and they followed her because she had a plan when no one else did.

The guy spent 2 months blogging about his plumbing odyssey. The odyssey itself only lasted 2 days, but he was able to get 2 months of blogging out of it by getting pretty detailed. With a few detours into his philosophies of life.

It's been a long time since I've seen it, but the part that has stuck with me is DeNiro sitting in his basement pretending he's friggin' Johnny Carson, interviewing a big cardboard cutout of Liza Minnelli.
It was laugh out loud funny then because there was a time when it seemed like every single time you turned on the TV in the 70's and early 80's there was friggin' Liza talking about her mom or her struggles with alcoholism or some damn thing. The woman was everywhere. And at the same time, it was the scene that let you know how batshit nuts and pitiful Rupert Pupkin was.

With an absent father and a withdrawn and depressed mother, 17 year-old Ree Dolly keeps her family together in a dirt poor rural area. She's taken aback however when the local Sheriff tells her that her father put up their house as collateral for his bail and unless he shows up for his trial in a week's time, they will lose it all.
It's set in Appilachia, so I was expecting some cheap shot stereotypes, but it didn't come off that way. The characters are from the underclass, but it felt authentic. But then, I've never set foot anywhere near Appalachia, so what do I know. The story kept me interested all the way through.

I thought "Ex-Machina" was kind of middling, probably because I saw "The Machine" first. The Machine is a low budget flick out of Britain that covers much the same ground, although it does have some action in it as well.

She was in it, but I didn't know it was her big intro. The only other person I recognized was her uncle who was played by John Hawkes. He was Sol Starr in Deadwood, but I couldn't place him at the time, so whenever he came on screen, I kept trying to figure out where I recognized him from.

She gets handed an envelope, but I never heard a figure discussed. Previously, it had been told that her father put up the house for his bail, but it wasn't enough. So, according to the bail bondsman, some unidentified man came in with some wrinkled bills and made up the difference. The bail company took their cut from the cash and were refunding the difference. Since the guy who put up the cash never ID'd himself, she got the envelope. There's no way it was millions, but if I had to guess, I'd say something like $10,000. But that is just me guessing.

IIRC, it was the sort of gig where someone said, "I'm pretty sure that this is impossible -- but if anyone is going to do it, it's you....so I'll pay you this fuckton of money to do your best for two years." Which is like crack to some people [ask me how I worked for a place for 7 years when 60% of my compensation during the time I worked there was bonuses; and how I ran the production floor on numerous occasions despite being a CPA with no formal training in electronics or manufacturing].
And, yes, the fiancee still gives me grief over incidents like the time in Ponce where I went away to wash my hands at a restaurant.....and was retrieved 40 minutes later after revamping the production schedule on a pay-phone I had to walk past.

Not at all -- but we have some of the same motivators. Pride, problem-solving, alignment of details with strategic paradigms, a high regard of technical competence joined to a disdain for credentialism.....I know the intoxication of that mixture, and how it can "overlook" a loved-one for a time because "we're perfect for each other, she'll always be there" and "I'm providing for her."
And I can well understand that Tammy understands her guy well enough to know that he'll hare-off after some milestone or accomplishment while ultimately loving her.

It bothered him all through life, and he had mild pain around that eye area. His signature hand to the forehead move was actually a natural thing for him. He did it naturally one time, and they all realized how well it went with the befuddled, stumble-bum persona of the Columbo character.
His right eye doesn't move and that's what gives that cross eyed, or lazy eye look.

tested and my blog does allow anonymous comments. You still have to
check the I'm-not-a-robot box but that's it. The catch with with
Blogspot/Blogger is that it's easy to use but you don't get fine control
of the commenting system.

Incidentally, I have an email I have to compose to the PJMedia technical guy regarding the same issue. Insty arranged the contact, but then I had a flooding issue in a hallway that ruined some flooring under wall-to-wall, my dishwasher failed, I had some irrigation issues, had to deal with an Obamacare wrinkle, and had a couple of time-sensitive relationship crises......IOW, "life" -- but it's left me behind on my correspondence. And I hate how I sound when I try to rush things.

Chem. Much too much to type, this late. I've got some more detail demolition to do, then onto fitting new treated wood, stainless steel hurricane fastening fixtures, etc.
I've got a week's worth of work ahead, not counting the repainting of the entire master bedroom.
All to be done when I'm done from work.
Fvking. Termites.
Best termite treatment. Burn it all down. Pity, that's illegal and uninsurable.
Second best? Use so much insecticide of every description, as to send an EPA Superfund Site running in fear for it's life.
Which is my Plan B.

Sadly, yes, some boats can sustain termite damage. Inferior boats, though, as teak, Phillipine Mahongany, and Cypress, do not suffer termites, at all.

The IRS has not stopped targeting conservative groups seeking nonprofit status, a federal appeals court has ruled in deciding to reinstate a lawsuit against the agency.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit overturned a decision by a lower court that threw out the lawsuit because the Internal Revenue Service had promised voluntarily to end discriminatory practices.
He will just continue to ignore these court orders and thumb his nose at the courts and Congress because they will take no action against him and the MFM will not report his illegal actions.

As for Michael Totten and Trump's stance on NATO, I have to agree with Totten on that one.
NATO was established first and foremost to protect the USA. It enables us to stage assets away from our shores and closer to potential hotspots. The issue of who pays for it and its mission, etc. is something else. But considering Putin, the ChiComs, Iran/Islam are all on the march, having NATO at least as I have laid it out is perhaps more vital than ever.

The Hill got caught photoshopping a large crowd at a Hillary event just the other day. Nearly half...around 5 million....of her twitter followers are fake. She pays, and busses in supporters for certain events.
I don't believe she enjoys the popularity, and support the media is trying to convince us of. Granted, she's doing her best to motivate people against the big bad GOP candidate, but it's clear people really don't care, and don't like her.
I can't imagine this will work in her favor come November.

I am a little leery on dairy products. Unopened sour creme is said to be good good 45 to 60 days. The "sell by" date is what the manufacturer says is peak tastiness. Once opened as long as it is stored in the refer below 40F they say it will last 1 to 2 weeks.

But she's got competition.
In the same poll they have Trump at? ... 64% not trustworthy.
Thank you SO much GOP for finding a candidate as untrusted and deceitful as Hilary.
It took a reality TV show star with a history for WWE bluster, randomly spouting any side of any issue to manage this.
That couldn't have been easy to run as a real Presidential candidate; but somehow it was managed.
Well done.
There couldn't have been a Hillary Presidency without the GOP going to that massive amount of effort.
