It'd be crazy lotto money, but I'd like to keep a diary of where Bourdain and Fieri go to some of those eateries, and just do a food tour of my own.
'Cause some of that food just looks way too good to pass up.
Anyway, ass or not, I give Bourdain some credit for being willing to do some shooting with Nugent as well as some ordinary New Mexico gunnies, who did a good-enough job in positively inculcating Bourdain as to some shooty goodness.
While I doubt that Bourdain is as solid on the 2nd as we on this Schmaht Militaruh Blahg, well....I also sense that he's at least now ambivalent on the issue. It's likely that prior to those positive experiences, he was quite the anti-2A sort.
Don't you wish all the rest of the libtard media would give us half the consideration that he did by being willing to learn 'bout something totally outside his scope knowledge and experience?
So, asshole or not, I cut him some slack, here. Frankly, I think with the right encouragement, some intrepid 2A type could drag him fully away from the dark side. At least, on that topic.
But that's a damn big topic. I'd count it a win if it happens.

The deflation of the Great Depression wasn't this bad, at least for the year-over-year metric. I forget exactly, the cumulative drop of GD may have be greater, percentage wise, but the deflation of '20 was the worst spike you'll see on the graphs.
And the federal govt's response was actually the opposite of the Keynesian prescription. They cut spending (and taxes), but cut spending more, resulting in a drop in govt. debt -- hell may have paid off existing debt almost. And the Fed, they *raised rates*. And the Roaring Twenties followed.
This is the exact opposite of the Keynesian prescription, the thought of doing this would make Krugman's head explode raving about how stupid anyone would be to do this.

Man I don't know about a commercial orange sauce. But if you Google it there are several recipes that will give you excellent results. Paris Mexican Table cookbook has the best recipe I've ever used for this.

Profoundly disappointing. I'm not one who thinks chili has to taste one certain way. I like it slightly sweet, all savory, beans..no beans. But Packo's chili was not good. Very heavy on the cumin, and I like cumin, and possibly some other spice that made it taste....soapy... is the best word I can come up with.

She has these sort of vague memories of particular things during that 1 - 1.5 month period, but it's like a dream to her, not very real.
Her memory starts going right after she came home from rehab. Her knee surgery and her stay in the rehab facility, she remembers well. She remembers a few things right when she got home, but not much, and nothing really when she went out of her mind.

Also watched a handball match today that definitely wasn't the handball we used to play in college. It looked like a cross between soccer and basketball and was rougher than hell. If it had any rule(s) besides putting the ball in the net, nobody was interested in enforcing them. Cool.
Don't they have short track bicycle races sometime this week? They're pretty intense too.

I admit that unless everything is absolutely horrible, I'm the type to try a new place *twice* before making a decision. The chances are too great IMHO for the chef or whomever to just be having a bad day if your first meal isn't the greatest.

Chicago dogs are awesome,but the best ones I've had were not in Chicago but at a place here called the Dog Haus (owned by a guy from Chicago). I was disappointed by the Chicago dog I got at Wrigley - not nearly as good and twice as expensive.
I do not want shredded carrots, shrimp salad or mashed potatoes on a hot dog.

There are still some great amateur athletes in there and a lot of excitement and suspense. The work you can see is unbelievable.
The reporters doing the post-event interviews are dumb as dirt, but the commentators have been pretty good on the swimmers and gymnasts. Fencing too as I recall.
Any event with professionals in them I'll avoid like the Oscars.

I still watch Olympics when there is an event I like; gymnastics, diving, swimming with Phelps (& I believe that is an actual category) and whichever team is being sacrificed to USA men's basketball. Damn straight I'm jingoistic.
And I still will watch some of the studio stuff. Last night I cracked up when NBC went back to Tiny Bob and the camera angle was from the floor and far across the studio. Nice try, but Bob is STILL SHORT. Get your CGI people on this, NBC, the camera tricks will not work if you insist to try to convince us that Bob be big.

Actually... a lot of that has not been tested.... and State laws intersect with the election...
Electoral College is many States is bound to vote for who is selected via the Ballot.... and State Law dictates when the Ballot is closed...
And remember... the House must sign off on the Electoral College vote... usually is just a pro forma vote... but if people started dyin.... that could throw a monkey wrench into things as well.
Seems that if the electoral college voted for someone but they died before the House vote... and the House can ONLY vote for people who got electoral votes... things could get weird...

I'll look for them. I've loved Nathan's since I first tried them years ago. These days, I eat hot dogs just a couple of times a year to keep my doctor from yelling at me. Might get some for Labor Day since visiting family for the weekend is out of the question this year.

They are good. I became a fan during the time I lived in Chicago and generally try to grab one at Portillo's every time I am back there on business. They are also easy to make at home, although you need to buy "sport peppers" online if you don't live in the Chicago area (available on Amazon). Neon relish tastes the same as regular sweet relish, and regular buns work just as well as poppyseed buns. The very light sprinkle of celery salt does add something, so don't skip that. Although Chicago is dominated by Vienna Beef hot dogs in general, use whatever your favorite dog is. Hebrew National probably makes the closest substitute.

The winner of the presidential contest would then be dead. Congress could declare votes for the dead guy are invalid and not counted. There is precedent for this, but not for the winner, with back in the past, COngress rejecting a number of votes for a candidate who had died. He wasn't the winner, so it didn't matter.
Does majority of the EC college mean majority of *valid votes*. If that's the case, then the loser would win.
Or do they throw it to the House....and all that.

The thing is, the Founding Fathers foresaw this tendency. They documented the enumerated powers of the Federal Government in Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution. Enumerated means "on a list" -- the Founders explicitly said that the Government could do this list of things AND NOTHING ELSE. There are about 68 of them.
When it came to adopting the Bill of Rights (first 10 Amendments), the big debate was whether spelling out bright lines about what the Feds CANNOT do would be read as infinitely expanding the 68-or-so things that the Feds explicitly CAN do.
The compromise reached was that there would be a Bill of Rights, but among them would be "The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be
construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people." and "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor
prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively,
or to the people." Both should have been prefaced with, "In case you retards can't read...."
Fast forward 200+ years, and the out-of-control Feral Government of the US thinks that the only boundaries to their ever increasing fiefdoms are in the first 8 Amendments to the Constitution, and they're perpetually trying to weasel-word them down to minimal hindrances.
There is nothing in the Constitution that would allow the Federal government to regulate agriculture, labor, wage-and-hour laws, healthcare, the environment, great swathes of land in western states, education, air travel, space travel, diseases, or communications. The Founding Fathers thought about several of these things and said that great masses of politicians would only fuck them up.....and so they have.

Thursday, my Mom was diagnosed with cancer. I am terrified and heartbroken and need to cry, though I haven't yet.
It's supposedly very treatable, and I know a lot of people beat it. But, the odds haven't been with us so far, so I hate to look at the odds.
She has an MRI tomorrow to see if/how much it has spread. I am so scared, I can't even speak. Any prayers you can spare for good news would be appreciated.

The 20th Amendment covers both these scenarios.
Also, though state law may bind Electors according to state law, the Electors can still vote for whomever they want, and Congress is bound by the electors actual vote, not who they were supposed to vote for.

I posted this in the EMT, but just in case I may catch some other people....double the prayers is doubly good.
Thursday, my Mom was diagnosed with cancer. I am terrified and heartbroken and need to cry, though I haven't yet.
It's supposedly very treatable, and I know a lot of people beat it.
But, the odds haven't been with us so far, so I hate to look at the
odds.
She has an MRI tomorrow to see if/how much it has spread. I am so
scared, I can't even speak. Any prayers you can spare for good news
would be appreciated.

I sincerely hope and pray that the next news you get is better -- but I should point out that "very treatable" cancer can really be very treatable. A lot of times it's a quick snip-snip and hypervigilant monitoring.

Everybody hates cancer, but I have a helpful suggestion: take notes and/or record the consults. You're going to have waves of fatigue and terror swashing through them and want to make difficult, fact-based decisions based on your understanding. So don't just record them in your terrified, tired brain -- get the discussions documented in such a way that you can refer to them later. [And, of course, if you're not going to be in this meeting, the advice would be for your mom.]

I was, as usual, shamelessly eavesdropping while at Bryce Canyon.....and overheard a guide saying that a drop of rain falling on the rim of Bryce Canyon would eventually find its way into the Great Basin and evaporate....but one falling just an inch away into the canyon would eventually find its way to the Colorado River and into the Gulf of Mexico.

It's an open question. One view is that, yes, the President-elect is the winner of the EC vote even before they are officially counted and certified. And Congress has no discretion. If the winner is dead, then the dead winner must be officially certified. Then the 20th kicks in.
The other view is no, this doesn't count.
The committee reporting on the 20th Amendment did endorse the former view, apparently, saying the president-elect is the one with the majority of electoral votes or the winner if it's thrown to the House.

Most people don't realize this, but the United States of America does not hold a national election.
They are all state elections conducted by the states, including for elected positions of Elector, Senator, or Representative in Congress.
The wisdom of the Electoral College is that a candidate doesn't just need an intense, but narrow, majority, but have broader support in order to win.

I don't think it's any one thing, it's the combination of the reports, including her longstanding "tantrums", reports from her security details from the past, and doctors' comments on her medicine load being unusual for her described condition.
I think she's mostly a completely neurotic sociopath with a lot of prior drug use and probably a stroke or two, and she's just a freaking mess propped up by an army of handlers.
Not like that's a real diagnosis or anything.

Just a little pet peeve of mine about the whole Madoff thing - the money numbers they gave were all total bullshit. They included Madoff's laughable promises of return as part of the "losses", which is sort of asinine. If Madoff promised someone %15 return for 10 years on his money then they reported the amount defrauded as the initial, actual cash PLUS the money that Madoff had promised the sucker.
That's not to say that the theft wasn't gargantuan - it certainly was in the billions - but it was nothing close to the 50 billion or so reported. That was just hype.

Grant was running for re-election, and there was a lot of corruption. A #NeverGrant movement in the Repubs sprang up and split off, calling themselves the "Liberal Republicans" (as opposed to Radial Republicans) and nominated Horace Greeley. The Democrats endorsed Greeley, hoping to defeat Grant.
Now, Greeley died after the election but before the EC met. Grant won big, and was the clear winner of the electoral votes based on the popular election.
The Greeley electors split their votes, voting for either other Democrats or for the Liberal Republican VP nominee. Three Greeley electors cast their votes for the dead Greeley.
Now, Congress *rejected* these three Greeley votes as invalid, but included the votes in the total number of votes.
They also threw out the entire votes of Louisiana and Arkansas because of "irregularities", and did not include them in the total. They had voted for Grant, who had won anyway and this made no difference to the outcome.
So, there is precendent, but pre-20th Amendment precedent for Congress throwing out votes for dead candidates, but those votes were cast after the electors knew he was dead.

So first day back and a mom of my sons friend comes by to get him since it's after dark. She starts to talk to me about how scared she is for this country and how it's so scary and racially divided so she's voting for her heinous. **face plant** Of course she also told me about how her dad use to talk about how awful Reagan was, so there is that. This is why I try not to talk to people that live near me.....I just can't associate with anyone who voted for the JEF and now will vote for pure evil.

Just a little pet peeve of mine about the whole Madoff thing - the
money numbers they gave were all total bullshit. They included Madoff's
laughable promises of return as part of the "losses", which is sort of
asinine. If Madoff promised someone %15 return for 10 years on his
money then they reported the amount defrauded as the initial, actual
cash PLUS the money that Madoff had promised the sucker.
That's not to say that the theft wasn't gargantuan - it certainly
was in the billions - but it was nothing close to the 50 billion or so

The essential similarity with Corzine and Madoff is that they both took entrusted money that was supposed to be used for one purpose, co-mingled it with other funds, and used it for some entirely different purpose....while issuing periodic statements that purported to show it continued to be segregated and used for agreed purposes [sort of like the Federal Government. *rimshot*]
The idea was that the funds would make big money for the scamsters, who could then put the appropriate funds back into the customers' accounts and pocket the difference.
To invent an example -- your customers entrust you with $1B that they desire to be invested in a bunch of investments with expected returns of 6-8%. You know of something that is going to return 10%. You put all the money into that, instead of what the idiot customers wanted, with the intent that you'll take that 10% and pay them the 6-8% and they'll never know the difference.
In the meantime, you gin-up a bunch of "disclosures" that show that everything is invested the way the idiots wanted it invested. Month after month after month, you show their accounts growing as if they had been invested as instructed. Month after month after month, you trade in increasingly speculative ways, as your investment brilliance yields less than 5%....

I think the biggest thing with the Ace diet is the LCHF portion. I'm doing "LCHF + IF + alcohol" and continually pissing-off my doc who doesn't think anyone who consumes the alcohol I do should have the lab results I do in a just world. He thinks I should have A1C and bad cholesterol through the roof because I spurn conventional thinking.
And I blew-off LCHF and took a bunch of Advil tonight because I'm decommissioning a 150-gallon aquarium and ache all over. I've decided it is being sold locally and not being moved, so I have better uses for its footprint.

flee when they see signs of the collapse coming. For all of the
financial insanity we have here, China has some really serious problems

I doubt culture had much to do with it so much as the core cast getting old and not rotating in younger talent.
Red Skelton was on from 1951 to 1971. He was 58 and likely ready to cut back his schedule a bit.
Beverly Hillbillies ran 9 seasons. I think they'd done all they could with it. Plus Irene Ryan was feeling her age and died just two years after the last season.
The Andy Griffith Show ran 8 seasons, with Don Knotts leaving for one while seeking lead roles. The show ended because all of the leads were ready to move on, not because the network didn't want it anymore. Remember 'Mayberry R.F.D' the spin-off show they tried to keep things going without the core cast? The other earlier spin-off, 'Gomer Pyle' jsut got too weird in its persistent refusal to make any reference at all to the Vietnam war and any suggestion that Gomer and the rest might be deployed at some point. In 1964, when the show started, that could be accepted but by the fifth season it was a bit absurd.
CBS did the rural purge but mainly because it was getting stale and losing ground to ABC and NBC. All of the newer shows you mentioned were on CBS. There was room on the dial for other stuff and as I recall, Hee-Haw never ran on the Big Three networks. It was either KTLA or KTTV in LA and Ventura Counties.

Hee Haw was supposed to be a one off Summer Replacement but it stuck around for a while. It could have lasted longer. The rest had run their course and were declining in the ratings. The Andy Griffith show had declined because the stars were tired of it and wanted to move on.
As for those more youthful shows, MASH started out good and then when Alan Alda decided to be God it went to shit.

Mmmm Roller Dogs. I see them at some of the truck stops on my drives through the South. Then I go use the bathroom. Realizing that even if the person(s) on duty are washing their hands after a potty break, the bathrooms are disgusting and they probably give the same amount of care and attention to details as the food they handle.

Don't like her one bit but keep in mind she's a 60 something woman and overweight as well. I'm 60+ and I have balance issues. These things happen without having major health issues. I'm fairly healthy at 60 and do not take any prescription drugs and I occasionally go off balance.
Hillary is running for President and on a tough travel schedule. Gotta be tough on an older woman.
Don't hang your hopes on her having major health issues and dropping out of the race.

The video of her freezing is interesting in the way her SS agent jumps in - even if she just had a moment where she blanked out (like when you walk into the kitchen and forget what you went in to get/do), the way the SS agent immediately jumps in and reassures/prompts her seems to indicate he does this often. There's no pause to let her collect her thoughts, give her a chance to right herself.

That "New York" hot dog contradicts my on-site experiences. Basically. like Gaul, New York hot dogs come three ways: Mustard & Saurkraut; Mustard & Onions (sauce); and Mustard an dSweet Pickle Relish.
My personal favorite tought was the Jewish deli dogs with the crunchy grilled all day skin and with mustard and potato salad.
