Progressivism and Tram-Ride Democracy
But just what are these "principles of democracy"? To but it bluntly, there are none. Democracy is a procedure, not a principle. A democratic decision could be a majority of people preventing a tyrant from ruling over them, or a democratic decision could facilitate a tyrant gaining power over them. Grampa Jimbo -
Yeah, but they're worth it. Hell, my angel (nicknamed 'Mishka' - 'Little Mouse') calls me 'Cat,' and I've got more than a few who stop by to visit. The thing about cats is they're a species we've not yet tamed. There's still something wild about them, which makes their regard and affection all the more special. A dog will do anything to ingratiate himself to his master. But a cat, he can take or leave you. Gotta share this picture of me and my Colorado cousin Doreen's daughter, Ryen.
Backstory: Last weekend I attended the premiere party in Van Nuys for a new album by a new rock band, Power. Doreen's husband, Shaun, is the lead guitarist. (Shaun describes Power as "Queensryche meets Journey.") As I said, my cousin's family lives in Colorado but the band decided to have their party not that far from me in SoCal. So I was there with my sister and bro-in-law from the sane side of my family. So Ryen got this picture of me and her, which she posted at FB today. Ryen's what, I think 25? Anyway she's already working and doing well for herself. I wanted to share this picture to say, I know I've complained here a lot about the lack of attractive women in my life. To Mike Hammer from the last thread about hand pain/problems after using a weedeater.
They can do that, especially if you've got arthritic joints, which I do all over with this damned RA. It's the vibration. At the right frequency, it can do some weird stuff. One time I used one, and my right hand and forearm became almost unusable for hours afterwards. Tingling all over, and the tendons got inflamed. I couldn't hardly hold on to anything. The feeling was similar but not the same as when a part "goes to sleep" after lying on it wrong. Pick-a-part ain't gonna worry much about a broken window, true....
Posted by: cthulhu at August 03, 2016 11:22 PM (EzgxV) True enough. But Pick-a-part doesn't sell locks and keys, either, so destroying the trunk lock by punching it in won't matter to them. Large hammer. Metal punch, or short length of water pipe slightly small than O.D. of trunk lock. Center punch on lock, whack hard, and drive it through the thin sheet metal of the body. Should leave enough room to pass a screwdriver past the lock to manipulate the linkage that the lock is connected to. A look at the guts of a similar car would be useful. Alternative to punching the lock in, use a pointed punch to make hole next to it, to reach through with said screwdriver. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at August 03, 2016 11:31 PM (f3Uae) 224

If I use my hands too much, putting too much force or effort for two long, it will set off something akin to tendonitis. This kind of tendon swelling goes along with the RA. My wrists will turn red on the inside, and flexing the fingers becomes very painful.
This actually started happening way back before I became diagnosed with it. I had no idea what was happening. There were several episodes like this before one time, the joint pain got so awful I had to go see the doc, and got the bad news after some tests. The thing locksmiths use isn't terribly different than a blood pressure pump. They'll use a non-marring tool to wedge the top of the door, insert the bladder, and then pump the bladder until they can get a slim-jim or similar in. You know what will happen if Hitlery wins. It will
make the last 8 yrs seem peaceful and tranquil in retrospect. I am convinced she is far worse than Barry. If Trump wins, it's a roll of the dice as to what will happen. Those are our choices though. Posted by: L, Elle at August 03, 2016 11:49 PM (6IPEM) Hillary is a known known. The result of her Presidency would be nothing more and nothing less than America becoming unrecoverable by any systemic process. Another Sotomayor or Kagan - a Democrat ideologue - will be the replacement for Scalia, and the Rule of Law simply stops. Hillary's unpunished corruption inspires a new generation of politicians. Amnesty happens, pathways to citizenship are created, and the country goes solid blue. The vote no longer matters. The Democrats no longer have a brake on their ambitions. Absolute power without accountability now exists. Trump is a known unknown. His political speech across the decades has been all over the map, and the level of genuineness of his conversion is a thing known only to the man himself. What is observable is that he's always been a proponent of America and the American Dream, unlike the majority of Democrats that hate this country. That alone makes him a better choice, as any political idea animated by patriotism will produce better results than Clinton/Obama levels of hate for all things Western. About the criticality thing. It actually takes some finesse to get a fission explosion of any yield.
If you let something go critical, you get a burst of radiation, enough to kill anybody close by, some light and heat, but no big boom. The heat released quickly drives it sub-critical before enough energy is released to make a big boom. You've got to hold it together long enough to get enough energy released. Sadly, the best pizza in that neck of the woods is the Pizza Hut in Saranac Lake. There's a place in Tupper Lake (I forget the name) that's pretty good, too. If you're go to the Interlaken, you're dinner will be top rate. If you want something less formal, there's the Lake Placid Pub & Brewery. That's where they make Ubu Ale - I'm personally not a fan of Ubu, but they make the best burgers I've ever had in a restaurant. Sometime (different trip) make the trek to Lake Clear Lodge. This has been one of those weeks. I was late to work because someone rolled a semi on the off-ramp on one of the only ways to work. Granted, the driver had a worse day, and I KNOW the DOT response team was trying to figure out what to do to clear the ramp of a truck that has rolled half way over the barrier over to hang mostly unsupported in the air. Mike,
Good. But that's how it started me with me around 15 years ago. Crazy little stuff that involved joints hurting and swelling, and the tendonitis like stuff due to normal work. My knee flared up one time. It became so painful, I remember screaming out loud driving something and having to jam the clutch in quickly. It went away, then came back about 9 months later. My father and I were building a new shed, and every day a joint would start killing me. One day, it was a knee, the next a shoulder. My left big toe swelled up and turned red one day. I figured I was "spraining" stuff. When I could do anything for three days, I realized I wasn't spraining anything. That's when I went to the doctor. I woke up one morning and my right shoulder felt like a knife was being stuck in it. It was RA. Posted by: publius (not Breitbart publius) at August 04, 2016 12:19 AM (DW+jj) 386

So Horde oh' Plenty with a tech background.....(after the op sys discussion lately, I knw you're probably around) Why the fuck isn't my phone smart enough to utilize the 28 Gig plus free space on my SD card to perform its Corporate update? It just downloaded 840mb, an then tells me theres not enough space on my phone, (bullshit), to do it's thing. To be clear....it's not an issue. My phone does everything it needs to and does it well as is. I'm thrilled silly, because thats what I want from my machine. Network coverage is for shit in my part of WV and gettin a signal to make a call an txt requires a booster half the time. So if those bases are covered the wifi link works at the Palace... I'm good. Just wonderin why my "smart" phone seems rather dumb. It's a Galaxy S5 Active on ATT. Posted by: Hillbillyking at August 04, 2016 12:16 AM (a+Olp) For historical reasons, SD cards are treated more as hard disks than onboard memory by most OSs (UNIX treats EVERYTHING like a file, so it's easier to tweak). There is likely a workaround, but it's device/OS specific. Posted by: cthulhu at August 04, 2016 12:22 AM (EzgxV) 400

Until his recent death, it's where venture capitalist Tom Perkins owned a penthouse. Condos sell for anywhere from $1.6 million to north of $10 million. I had to look up the history of chopsticks. They've been around in Asia for a long time, but interestingly, the were used for cooking originally and for thousands of years. It was until around 200BC that they started using them in China at the table for eating. And it wasn't until the Ming dynasty that they used for serving and eating as they do now, and acquired their present shape and size.
And there are protocols about how to use them, what not to do with them and all that. If hold them wrong, that reflects badly on your breeding and parentage. It is a dishonor to your parents to hold or use them incorrectly. Posted by: publius (not Breitbart publius) at August 04, 2016 12:36 AM (DW+jj) 456

I have to regularly clean my ears out with Hydrogen Peroxide. Fill up the ear, let it soak, then use the syringe to wash it out with water. I have to do that every two weeks, or they'll soon get plugged.
I make a hell of a lot of ear wax for some reason. And some of my cats over the years love the stuff. I learned this one time when I was fingering my ear. Damn cat got a whiff of it on my fingers and went crazy licking it. Posted by: publius (not Breitbart publius) at August 04, 2016 12:41 AM (DW+jj) 470
. I usually eat in nice restaurants with Chinese lawyers and I've never seen anyone flip their chopsticks. Only recently did I see someone do that here, in California.

Wife lived in Japan and works for a Japanese company (Honda) and we've done some business dinners where there is communal food. The opposite end (from the end you put in your mouth) of chopsticks is ALWAYS used to get food from any communal plate, then the food is placed on the individuals plate/dish etc. and picked up with the end that goes in the mouth.

Clothes from America - were talking Walmart stuff - brings top dollar. Her relations laughed at manners, and could tell I'd been around Chinese. Anyway, mix up the tuna (solid white in olive oil) in a big bowl, then put chopped bell peppers, chopped apple, and dice pimentos in and mix. Posted by: L, Elle at August 04, 2016 12:53 AM (6IPEM) Having been to a few odd corners of the world....if you're in the tourist area of anywhere, there is little adjustment to third world life; tourist areas have air conditioning; not only do they understand hygiene and cleanliness, it is a matter of life-and-death for them -- the average inhabitant of Honduras or Fiji consistently uses better hygienic practices than the average inhabitant of Berkeley, CA uses on a good day. And I can't begin to express how nice people are. We were invited into people's homes in on Kadavu who didn't own chairs. We were walking down a dirt road on Taveuni when we came across a young black male carrying a machete, but were so relaxed by how nice everyone was that we chatted about going to the natural water slide nearby. The smog is awful and the customs are weird, but it's modern and a little exotic. I really like it. If you want to try China Lite, go to Hong Kong. It's a fascinating mix of British and Chinese culture in an incredibly cosmopolitan city. It's one of my favorite cities in the world. Posted by: Cicero (@cicero) at August 04, 2016 12:57 AM (/wm8n) Hong Kong is trippy. You are on the streets with all the signs in Chinese, you hear all the conversations in Cantonese, everyone looks very Chinese, everyone is bustling along, then you step into a bank to change some money -- and the very polite young lady Chinese teller says, "can I help you?" with an accent from within 10 miles of #10 Downing Street. Posted by: Your Decidedly Devious Uncle Palpatine, Still Accepting Harem Applicants at August 04, 2016 01:25 AM (jAWFu) Same trip, I had some time in Taipei. Went down to the concierge desk, asked where the tech shopping area was, the guy brought up a pad of maps, tore one off, and proceeded to draw arrows. I did some local wandering to get oriented [heh], then set off for a bridge that should serve as a gateway to the area I wanted to visit. Never got there, timed-out, flagged a taxi, returned to hotel. Next day, did my business, then decided to head for the fabled "tech shopping area". Realized when I got to the lobby that I'd forgotten my map. Went to the concierge desk, they pulled out a pad of maps, tore one off, and proceeded to draw arrows. Got out in front of the hotel, looked at the map, and froze. Carefully went back up to the room, got the old map, went back to the concierge desk, and demanded an explanation. Turns out, when I'd asked to get to the tech shopping area from the hotel the previous day, they decided to economize and give me one of their old maps.....from BEFORE they MOVED the RIVER. I never found the place I wanted to go because I'd used a particular bridge as a landmark.....and it was no longer a bridge. I've successfully navigated Rome using the Tiber as a benchmark; I've navigated Paris by offsetting from the Seine; I always knew the direction of the Neva in Saint Petersburg; and the Ponte Vecchio over the Arno is the center of Firenze....but Taipei just up-and-decided to move their freakin' river. If you want the whole-house fan to cool most of the house, you open the windows farthest from it; if you want to cool the entire house the most, you open the windows to the largest air volume; if you want to cool your sleeping area, you open the windows beyond the sleeping area (e.g. master bath). Me, I use small AC's for localized climate control until August when I turn on the central air and then wait cringing for the electric bill.
I actually found that the smaller AC's are less expensive to run up until August when it's hotter most of the entire day. Then the Central Air becomes cheaper because the small AC's are running all the time. Thank God I live near a gas fired Generator and two nuke plants. The War on Coal Miners hasn't affected us yet. On an entirely different front, I'm thinking of buying one of Harbor Freight's $100 horizontal shaft engines, oiling it and fueling it, running it for 5-10 minutes, then completely disassembling it down to pushing out the bearings -- then fully reassembling it to run again. Considering that the other guys we know are carving blocks and crankcases out of raw chunks of metal, at least I'd know we were discussing the same things.

Possible - meaning definite - terror attack in London. LONDON, Aug 4 (Reuters) - One woman was killed and five others injured by a man with suspected mental health issues who went on the rampage with a knife in central London, an attack police said could be linked to terrorism. Armed police were called at 10:33 p.m. (2133 GMT) after a man armed with a knife started to attack people in London's Russell Square, a park near the site of a 2005 suicide bombing. "Early indications suggest that mental health is a significant factor in this case and that is one major line of inquiry," London Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley told reporters. "But of course at this stage we should keep an open mind regarding motive and consequently terrorism as a motivation remains but one line of inquiry for us to explore," said Rowley, who is Britain's most senior anti-terrorism officer." General Phil Sheridan, actually. "n all my life, gentlemen, I will never forget my first visit to the State of Texas. I had been bumped over its sterile plains for a week in an ambulance. I was tired, dusty and worn out. When I reached my destination I found some people there who wanted me to talk and be received and all that sort of thing, before I had a chance to get the sand out of my eyes and ears. One fellow was persistent. He asked me with pure American curiosity what I though of Texas. In a moment of worry and annoyance I said if I owned hell and Texas, I would live in the former and rent out the latter. " Posted by: Growler at August 04, 2016 04:53 AM (Mt8T4) 726

Ya know, I'm not a vindictive man, but I've been thinking about my first wife tonight and this morning for some reason. She dumped me, and I went into a tailspin, but then I met Gingy. That saved me.
Gingy met me, and fell in love with me, and moved here to America to be with me, bringing her 8 year old son with her. We lived in a shithole apartment in the ground floor of a 200 year old house. Our landlady was a crackhead, but we had to be nice to her because some months I was late on the rent. The final straw was when the upstairs toilet almost crashed through our ceiling, We moved to blue collar Dundalk, then to slightly more upscale Parkville, then bought our current home in solidly middle/upper middle class Towson. It's been a long, slow, steady climb up. Through it all, Gingy has been my rock. I adopted her son 12 years ago, and we've been slowly, steadily, movin' on up to a deluxe apartment in the sky. We were able to do that because Gingy supported me every step of the way. My practice wife, however, hasn't had it so good. She's a teacher, and after she left me she married the janitor at her school. They sold the house that her and I bought (and made a tidy profit that I didn't see any of) and bought a new house in Bel Air. And then they proceed to drive themselves into bankruptcy. AFAIK, they're still struggling. My life with Gingy has been an unqualified success, mainly due to her moderating influence on me. Practice wife's life has been.....slightly less so. I don't hate her, in fact I'm still rather fond of her (we just didn't work as a couple), but the last time we spoke, she told me " It seems that you've learned from our (debt filed) life together, but I'm still making the same mistakes". I'm sad for her. As I said, I liked (even loved, once upon a time) her for a long time. But..... But...... Every time Toby Keith's song "How do you like me now?" comes on the radio, I sing it out loud, and gleefully, to her. I don't hate her. I really don't. But she's fucked up and I'm successful. How do you like me now, woman? You got rid of me, was that a wise choice? I don't like myself for the feelings that I have when that song comes on. Good Morning Morons. Today is Thursday, August 04, 2016. On this day in 1892 Lizzy Borden took an ax and gave her mother 40 whacks. Then she gave her father 41. The father and stepmother of were found murdered in their Fall River, Massachusetts home and she was the prime suspect. But she was acquitted and no other suspect was ever tried. The home is now a bed and breakfast and tourist attraction.

Latest Fox poll has Scankles up by 10 points. These polls are bouncing around so much something has to be up about them. And get this; The Fox News poll is based on landline and cell phone interviews with 1,022 randomly chosen registered voters nationwide and no breakdown is given for the normalization fraction for Democrats vs Republics and Independents. That, in itself, makes this poll dubious. Also, again this is a national poll and is therefore meaningless for the actual election other than a trend device. And the trend? There is no trend.

I'm shocked, the Supreme Court has put a temporary halt on Obama's insane and illegal bathroom rules based on a case from VA. The local federal court dismissed the case based on Title IX. An appeals court reversed that decision based on unknown BS since Title IX specifically says school may discriminate in bathroom and locker rooms based on sex. The ruling was 5-3 so if SCOTUS does take up the full case the insanity is not likely to prevail unless Scankles is elected.

Senate's most ardent communists seek out the identities of the AGW scam opponents.
Some of the Senate's most liberal Democrats, demanding that 22 national and state-based think tanks disclose their donors, disparaged them as being part of a network of free-market policy organizations the senators accuse of "laundering" identities while denying climate change exists. Most of Europe is already dropping this scam as more and more evidence is mounting that the world has been cooling since 1998 and the US NOAA has been caught red-handed twice manipulating the numbers. And even the former head of the UN AGW committee has admitted it was a scam to bilk the west of money. I don't usually comment at night but I have had some trouble sleeping lately & have to get this off my chest.
Why I am voting for Donald Trump and why Meg Whitman and the rest of #NeverTrump can go burn in hell: Donald Trump wasn't my choice. Not even close. However, neither was McCain, Romney, or GW Jr. the first time but I supported all of them and I'll be supporting Donald Trump with money, time and a vote. Trump's released his proposed list of Supreme Court candidates and selected a pretty solid running mate. If he turns out to be a shit heel president (i.e. he does the same things that Obama has done) all it would take to remove him is for Republicans to move to impeach and convict him and we get President Pence and one or two conservative supreme court picks. Enough to delay the further decline of the Republic a little. Democrats would support impeachment and conviction because they hate him no matter what. He could turn out to be a passable or even great president. Regardless you know that the media and Democrats will suddenly re-discover that the power of the executive isn't absolute. But Anyone who votes Johnson, Hillary (shudder) or doesn't vote gets a hard core liberal supreme court and all the corruption and evil that the Clintons will track into office and spurt onto the furniture. Since Democrats will never vote to impeach or convict President loose-lips vagina queen no matter what you get that oozing syphilitic couple in the Whitehouse for a minimum of 4 years at least and very likely 8 after they've fully rigged the system. The media will be on their knees worshiping the dick-less President and the First Rapist. The hard left becomes more powerful and the American dream is further lost. #NeverTrump are the Bowie Bergdahls of the Republican party and they are walking off their guard posts because they regard themselves more than the team. My dad used to call this "Play ball with me or I'll shove the bat up your ass." I hope it is worth it for them because it's going to end badly for the rest of us. For this reason I have only contempt for #NeverTrump. If that is you: get over yourselves. Now maybe I can get some sleep. Posted by: Mr. Feverhead at August 04, 2016 06:55 AM (j1Wvr) 784

Ah, so it was a different BS ruling from SCOTUS which said sentencing a 14 year old to life without parole was a violation of the 8th amendment. The liberal hacks in black robes in that rewrote the 8th amendment which "prohibits cruel and unusual punishment" to "the punishment must be proportioned to fit the crime".
Specifically the 8th amendment against cruel and unusual punishment was directed at the English punishment for treason of hanging, drawing, and quartering. It did not prohibit the death penalty in ANY case. Just one more of may, reasons for an Art V convention to take SCOTUS out of Washington and give it to the States. Before I got interested in Jack the Ripper, I spent some time immersed in the Borden case (for those of you who don't know, her full name was Lizzie Andrew Borden; after her acquittal, she began calling herself "Lizbeth," and she is buried under that name). There are many, many books out there on the murders, varying between she did it or she didn't do it. Two books worth reading, to get a sense of the social scene in Fall River at the time are The Fall River Tragedy by Edwin Porter, a police reporter for the Fall River Globe at the time of the murders. He leans towards "she did it," but doesn't come right out and say it. The second book is Victoria Lincoln's A Private Disgrace. As a child (she was born in 1904) she actually knew Lizzie and was familiar with the circles the Bordens moved in. She believed Lizzie was an epileptic and committed the murders while in a seizure. Vic, what happened to Lizzy Borden? Did she fall off the radar after the trial? More or less. She and sister Emma bought a large house on "The Hill" in Fall River (where the swells lived), Lizzie naming it "Maplecroft." While Emma was slightly tolerated in society, Lizzie was a complete outcast and generally kept to herself. She always had a yen for amateur theatricals and later formed a friendship (others called it something more) with actress Nance O'Neil, an act which caused Emma to move out and take a house in New Hampshire. UN Backs Secret Obama Takeover of Police International org calls for federalization of U.S. law enforcement to be 'beefed up,' cover all of America ... DOJ may very well end up doing the same thing with the local police -- that is, if Congress does not wise up to what's really happening and defund implementation of 42 U.S.C. - 14141. This is dangerous. What is most chilling is how far along the Obama Justice Department is in this process. The breadth of regulation here shatters any notion of local governance or federalism. Just a little thought from the Z-Man: . . .this is why guys like Erick Erickson are constantly trolling for the attention of Trump supporters on twitter and Faceberg. It's why NRO has given itself over to anti-Trumpism to the point of self-parody. It's also why the most over-the-top outrage about the Khan flap was from the so-called Right. Drudge has a link up to a story about that muzzie lawyer Khan. We all know he has now disappeared his law firm's info from the web, but this story says that he owns a house in Charlottesville, VA. His wife's practice is in VA Beach, which is about 3 hours away, so why C-ville? Seems C-ville is a big "sanctuary city" and has a big muzzie population -- and lots of them are illegal visa overstayers. Remember after 9/11, it turned out that a lot of the hijackers were also visa overstayers, and most of them had gotten on the planes using the driver's licenses they had obtained in Virginia. Looks like part of Khan's "immigration law" scamming involves C-ville.
Virginia voters need to call their state legislators and demand an end to this "sanctuary city" bullshit. They also need to get their corrupt DMV under control, and stop handing out driver's licenses like Halloween candy. It's pathetic that 15 years after 9/11, this shit is still going on. Keep in mind that those numbers surveyed are used to "normalize" the results. If the results of raw data said that Scankles had 40% and Trump had 39% with the rest undecided and they assigned a ration of 50% Dems to 30% Republicans and 21% undecided and they said that based on the last election Obama won by 5% then Scankles wold get a 5% boost and Trump would get a 5% cut. If they do not show the numbers then it means that the normalization fraction is so far from reality they can't show it.
