J.J. Sefton,
Regrettably, the relentless negative advertising and the lack of a Farm Bureau endorsement doomed Tim Huelskamp in the Big First of Kansas. Even in Kansas the media has a way of turning out good people and putting worthless shills in. Tim still is a good man, and I wish him well. In my conversations with him I found a public servant that gets it, and who was into large picture thinking with true public service and representing his constituents. The bad drive out the good, and I blame the MAIM (Mainstream Agit-Prop and Indoctrination Media). He was painted to be something he was not. I did the best I could, and helped make the total closer than it could have been. Posted by: NaCly Dog at August 03, 2016 08:00 AM (hyuyC) 14

Speaking of Levin, very good interview with Daniel Horowitz about his new book "Stolen Sovereignty." http://superstore.wnd.com/Stolen-Sovereignty-Hardcover-Daniel-Horowitz To wit, even if we elect judges out the wazoo for the next 20 years, the judiciary is completely screwed up. BUT - Congress does have the power to reign them in under Article 3. And that should be a focus going forward. Good thing we have the GOP on our side! /s Posted by: J.J. In other local news, The Baltimore County Council voted agains adopting the County Executives bill to strip the Voluntary component from the federal housing voucher program participation requirements here in the county.
This would have required any residential home owner who wished to rent their property to participate in the Housing Voucher Program. Unlike the actual Federal rules for the program, which makes the participation voluntary on the part of the property owner. All part of a Federal Suit settlement which the County Executive signed off on without Council input or support. Mostly in support of his expected effort to run against Governor Larry Hogan (R) in the next election. Only one of the seven Councilpersons voted to approve the legislation. Tea Party GOP Rep loses primary
The gateway pundit headlined this as a neverTrump versus proTrump analysis. Saying the proTrump won. The argument is very weak. The Wichita Eagle paper was tgp's source. First duel between Huelskamp, Marshall shows contrast in political approach http://bit.ly/28X9tR1 But Marshall positioned himself as a "peacemaker," someone who can reach across the aisle. In contrast, Huelskamp emphasized his unwillingness to waiver on his views. Marshall, a physician from Great Bend, talked about examples of collaboration from his community leadership positions. Huelskamp emphasized his disagreements with former House Speaker John Boehner as an example of his fixed ideals. Here's the bit about Trump Both candidates made it clear they support Trump and vehemently oppose Clinton. But they offered contrasting approaches to a Trump presidency. Marshall: "I will support the president and work with him to get things done." Huelskamp: "One thing to know about Tim Huelskamp is I have conservative principles, and I'm going to stand on those conservative principles. If you don't have conservative principles, I will work against you." If the Chamber of Commerce and Boehner were against Huelskamp, he had no chance. Under Obama, with Hillary's help, $1 trillion basically disappeared. Nearly another trillion disappeared in the stimulus. Nobody has ever had to give an account to where any of that money has gone.
I think I know where it went, but even if I am right, it will never be known. That one trillion is needed to bring infrastructure back up to the level of even Third World status, is probably understated. Spending $1 trillion on infrastructure probably would be a benefit to the country, if that's where it went. Under Hillary, it would just evaporate again. Under Trump, I think that there is at least a possibility that it might go where it's intended. Some of it at the very least. Posted by: Mr Macca Bean at August 03, 2016 08:21 AM (4ng05) 70

In other words, the civil rights groups who demanded those cameras want to be the judge of what those cameras seem to have recorded. Demand, demand, demand, demand, until they rule. Some of it at the very least. . . . .That $1 Trillion from the Stimulus went into State and Local government pockets to keep them solvent after the housing bubble collapse and they lost big chunks of revenue from dwindling property and payroll taxes. Some might have wound up actually being used to support infrastructure but not much of it. I meant to say in my last comment that $1 trillion disappeared in the bank bailout.
A point or two: Obama stated that banks had paid back all of the bailout money. If that's true, why did debt not go down? If it's true, where did the paid back money go? We'll never get answers to where that money went, but it is my belief that the overt push toward globalism is a direct result of that money having disappeared. Posted by: JROD at August 03, 2016 08:20 AM (TJXOt) Want to bring manufacturing back to the US and give us a competitive advantage even with high wages? Use the trillion that Obama pissed away building 500 identical nuclear power plants across the country. Give the power away free. Allow local private business to distribute it for a charge, but if a steel mill wants their power for next to nothing, they simply build the plant next door to the power station. Since the power is free, everyone in the country will receive a benefit as they switch from natural gas and oil to electric heating. Areas where air conditioning is the major cost for businesses and homes will expand. The sole factor for how much people and business would pay is how far they are from a power plant. Is this socialism? Sure, just as much as the interstate road system is. It's a natural solution to the need for power in modern times. Purists of libertarianism and hard core conservatives who want to live in a survivalist cabin in the wood might oppose this, but if you want an expanding economy in a world filled with low cost workers, this is an answer. It would actually be a fascinating idea; the energy costs of such facilities would be offset by the reduced transport costs. You could also design lighting systems to transmit sunlight through optic fiber or mirrors and minimize energy use further. You could reduce the need for chemicals by isolating the growing environment from pests. You could have kittehs on the lower levels to control the rats, and superfreeze the ductwork between levels to keep the roaches out. Most of the crop-tending could be handled by gardening robots, which already exist. Posted by: V the K at August 03, 2016 08:48 AM (O7MnT) 158

129 The reason I want the government to build and
operate the plants is that the major cost of nuke sites is the legal, liability, financing and all the other bullshit. If the plants are sited on federal land (which is everywhere across the country) nobody can stop them and they can be built quickly and cheaply. Also, the US would be far more secure militarily because no matter what happened, the vast majority of the country would have plenty of power. Let Trump adopt this as his main program if elected and see where the polls go. Posted by: jwest at August 03, 2016 08:40 AM (Zs4uk) The major cost of building a Nuke was endless litigation by the no-nukes eco-nazis who filed endless back to back civil suits halting construction causing the interest costs to go through the roof. They have learned from that and are now using the same tactics on ALL construction. The ability to do that was put in place by the Democrats and they have no intention of changing that. As for letting the government build them, if by some miracle of insanity they did start doing that the cost would go up by an a 99E10th power, the construction time would up to infinity, and the quality would go down by the same amount. That is an insane idea. Posted by: Vic We Have No Party at August 03, 2016 08:53 AM (mpXpK) 178

I mentioned a week or so ago my trip to WI and area around Madison. Never in my entire life have I seen 'estates' like some of those farms. Everything was manicured, huge homes, brand-new outbuildings and equipment. The contrast between 'working' farms, very well-kept but not to suburban estates standards, was absolutely shocking. Whoever is buying up these Estates sure has $$$$ because land in that area is almost as expensive as prime subdivision ex-farms in Illinois.

No, you can try to leverage the cost of your crop on your own and leave the "free" money sitting on the table... Look subsidies were sold and are still sold as "helping poor Ma and Pa Kent keep the farm in smallville" but the reality is we are now largely funding Archer Daniels Midland with the community chest to sell us food. Posted by: NaCly Dog at August 03, 2016 08:54 AM (hyuyC) The great advances in civilizations always follow great advances in power generation. There are a million things we can't even conceive of that will happen when unlimited, practically free electric power is available. Communities could decide if they wanted a plant close (exceptionally cheap power) or far away (more expensive). So, if Gary Indiana wanted a plant in town to supply new steel mills, the residents will have as much power as they want for a dollar or two per month. If the people of Malibu California are scared of nuclear power, they can pay to have it transmitted from a plant a few hundred miles away. Posted by: jwest at August 03, 2016 09:29 AM (Zs4uk) 277

Here's the Christ wasn't really killed conspiracy:
"Basilides, an early Christian preacher who died around 140 CE, was convinced -likely due to studying the Gospel of Matthew with his teachers, who reportedly had an authentic copy thereof - that Jesus was not crucified, but that it was Simon of Cyrene who died upon the cross. Irenaeus quotes Basilides' belief, saying, "Wherefore he did not himself su er death, but Simon, a certain man of Cyrene, being compelled, bore the cross in his stead; so that this latter being trans gured by him, that he might be thought to be Jesus, was cruci ed, through ignorance and error" (Against Heresies I 24:4)" Posted by: Lauren at August 03, 2016 09:35 AM (KpRYi) 294

The problem with infrastructure spending is the GOP spent years touting the wonders of building schools, roads, etc. in places like Iraq. It is a bad political message to say you want to spend money rebuilding other countries while you don't want to do it here. Granted the GOP moved away from that message somewhat in the last few years, but not enough. It appears they are enamored with the British experience putting down communist in Malaysia. Too much so in my opinion.

With sign-ups for health coverage through the Affordable Care Act due to start in three months, the price of insurance on the marketplace for New Jersey will go up by 5 to 26 percent in 2017 price hikes that reflect continued market flux as Obamacare enters its fourth year.
Rate filings made public this week show that health insurance premiums for individual customers appear to be rising faster than health care costs, as props in the law to help insurers weather the markets early turbulence are removed. But customers wont see those increases unless they renew the exact same coverage they had this year. They can switch plans to get a better price, something more than 40 percent of New Jerseys returning customers did this year. ??? IOC of the F-35A after fifteen years from initial award of contract.. why am I reminded of a story from 2005 - "After ten years and $8bn over budget..."
Of course they were talking about the Eurofighter Typhoon and when one of them tangled with two F-15Es and won. Another thing both share in common. The Typhoon was supposed to have been in service by 1987, the same year the Royal Navy and USMC started looking to replace the Harrier family with what became the JSF/F-35. Well, here's a feel good story....
John Conyers won his primary contest last night to represent Detroit and southern and western Wayne county in the House of Representatives. He beat out his challenger, a 58 year old black woman who has served as Detroit City Clerk. Conyers is 87 years old and has been in Congress for.....50 years. Since Detroit will not elect any republican to any seat for any reason, Conyers is assured of winning his house seat again. Unless he dies first. A voter was interviewed last night about why she was voting for Conyers. She said because he is all she has ever known. She didn't know this other woman. And apparently, didn't care to find out anything about her. Another voter said that she thought Winfrey, the opposition candidate, had done some "shady" things while she was in Detroit Gov. She must thing Conyers, whose wife was imprisoned for theft in office and taking bribes, and whose combined assets with John are in bankruptcy territory vs. what they owe, are "not" shady. I'm not even gonna click on that Mediaite article that says Trump kept asking why he couldn't use nukes during an intel briefing.

Including the many sentient beings who would point out that it is complete nonsense. Do you honestly believe if the government does something that industry used to charge for it becomes free?
If you're trying to help Trump I would suggest going a different route. Posted by: JackStraw at August 03, 2016 09:51 AM (/tuJf) If you impose the same regulations the nuclear industry endures on a lemonade stand, the cost of glass would be $27,000. By eliminating the red tape, you lower cost to 25 cents, thereby delivering the same product practically for free. Posted by: jwest at August 03, 2016 09:56 AM (Zs4uk) 367

And it never happens. You know this. Don't pretend that Trump has some magical powers that will allow him to change how an embedded bureaucracy operates. Besides, this just reinforces what I don't like about Trump. I don't want a strong man to come in and nationalize industries. That is the antithesis of America. If I want that I can just vote for Hillary. If Trump wants to impress then he can talk about working to remove as many crushing regulations as possible to let private industry do what it does far better than government ever has or could. 353 Do you know how much that final tally ended up
being? Because maybe that could be subtracted from whatever reparations number they are screaming about. Seems like that would justify as a "reparations." Posted by: Moki at August 03, 2016 09:50 AM (ezHMO) In 2010 congress appropriated another $1.15B because the original funding had ran out. The total amount of money appropriated came to $1.25B. And if things hold true to form Obama will give more than was appropriated. And nood Posted by: Vic We Have No Party at August 03, 2016 10:00 AM (mpXpK) 371

If it wasn't the nuclear industry, I would be with you. Just the nature of the beast and the extent of the special regulations and concerns in this one particular sector require special action. Posted by: jwest at August 03, 2016 10:05 AM (Zs4uk) 372

is there something like a The Reformation for Dummies ? I don't know alot about it. Would like to, without diving into some War and Peace tome.
Posted by: ScoggDog at August 03, 2016 09:25 AM (RKJF2) I really like Hillaire Belloc's "How the Reformation Happened". More history than dogma. Catholic, but not polemic. He illustrates the arc of the events using the life of an everyman of the times- what changed when, why and by whom and the effects. Yes, Huelskamp was an avid Never Trumper. Please watch this interview to get why he was tossed out yesterday:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-EkNBhXLNM You really think that this year is about candidates who are propped up by big business $$ and lobbyists? Uh, no. Marshall won b/c Huelskamp has been in the Cruz camp for a long time. He is just like Ryan who bad mouthed Trump even as he won the primaries. Typically, when an incumbent loses a primary in August it is because grass roots voters are motivated to get him OUT. These were not big business supporters who rallied to get to the polls. I'm also assuming Ryan is in a lot more trouble that we are being told. Guess we'll see next week. The polls for Kansas were way off, I'm suspecting the polls for Wisconsin may be the same.
