Isn't it interesting, as in disgusting, that SCOAMF and the Dems invoke the memory of Reagan when they have spent the past 28 years trying to destroy his legacy and his name.

Levin actually was damn good last night in exploding the Leftist propaganda about their history. It's a crime that the GOP allows that blood libeling to continue.

63 Holy freaking crap.

I replaced the serpentine belt on my '04 Alero, and it took two and a half days. First, I had to get a jack under the engine, and lift it slightly to remove one of the motor mounts. Then I just snipped the old one, and pulled it free.

I threaded the new one around all the various wheels, and pulleys, then reached for my trusty 3/8's ratchet, to move the tensioner enough to allow me to get the belt under the last idler pulley.

No go. The ratchet was too large to fit between the tensioner, and the car frame. For two days I tried multiple ways to either get the ratchet into the tensioner, or use levers and blocks to pry the tensioner.

Nothing worked. I finally walked over to the near by garage, and asked them for help. They loaned me their tool. Took me about 30 seconds to finish the belt. Yay for the proper tool and all, but what a bad freaking design. Replacing a belt should be a normal maintenance type job, and should be something that a vehicle owner should be able to accomplish with basic tools.

Next up, replacing window tabs on pass side, replace flasher unit, replace 12volt socket, replace front pass side bearing/hub assembly.

146 Here is the real meat in that Condit story.

Condit was a suspect in Levy's murder for a period of time, and Guandique's defense team reportedly planned to introduce evidence at the retrial implicating him in Levy's death.

Now why would the DC prosecutors not reopen this case and simply decide to drop all charges and supposedly try to deport the illegal?

I say for the same reason Scankles has never been charged for the never-ending list of felonies she has committed.

If the data are not presented in sufficient detail to allow a reader to weigh the conclusions it should not be published. That's not science.

168 I don't ever recall a time in my life where so-called journalists were publically and openly supporters of a particular party. I remember Eric Severeid gave a commentary at the end of the evening news - ABC, NBC.CBS - I don't remember. But is was commentary and everyone knew that. Now the whole ball of wax is commentary and each news person airs their personal politics. I'm not saying reporters of old didn't have political viewpoints. I'm just saying they didn't openly expose them and celebrate them. Media today is just a propaganda tool of the DNC. Why do we tolerate that? Isn't there supposed to be equal airtime for both political parties, especially in an election cycle?

176 Not a big fan, but good on Richard Sherman for taking a stand against the SJWs. About the Germans: yes they do have a parliamentary arrangement, but unlike most other similar countries, their constitution requires a "constructive" vote of no confidence. That essentially means you can't fire the Chancellor unless the replacement is already queued up. A bigger barrier to firing Merkel is party discipline, which is far more robust in other countries. Firing her would require a sizable chunk of her own party forming a coalition behind her back with the SPD, who are even worse on the refugee issue.

And Trump called for local control of minimum wage, the most efficient method. In my county, one of the top wealthiest counties in the country, you could offer three times minimum wage and jobs would still go unfilled for lack of applicants who could pass a background and drug test.

And here we go, yet again. The oft-cited tarriff to protect Harley Davidson was temporary. We already have 12,000 of them and all they do is enrich special interests, stifle competition and in effect act as a tax on the consumer.

As to minimum wages, there should be none. Entry-level jobs are there for low or no skilled people, mostly youth, to get into the world of work, learn the benefits of earning a living as well as get the skills to climb the ladder. They are NOT meant to be careers.

It's not about the value of the human. It's about the value of the specific job an employer is willing to pay to get it done.

Too many people have forgotten or just don't get basic economic theory. I suggest Milton Friedman's seminal work "Free To Choose." The PBS show is even on YouTube.

This is one of the frustrating things about dealing with liberals and the media. A Democrat or liberal can demagogue, hyperbolize (is that a word?), and spout just about anything and know it will never be checked out and will be treated as if it has full credibility.

OTOH, courtroom standards of proof are demanded of Republicans. The classic example was Romney in that debate where the "neutral" moderator told him he was wrong. Well,...no, she was wrong. But you could see the wheels spinning. Romney knew he had to be absolutely correct or it would haunt him the rest of the campaign so he froze. If that were Obama, he would simply spout a statistic, confident he would never be called on it, and roll on.

267 risk of getting attacked, it must be said. Trump's protectionist proclivities and willingness to raise the minimum wage do not inspire confidence either

=======
Attack you, JJ ? Let em try.

If it helps, here is Trumps tax plan -

The Trump Tax Plan Achieves These Goals

If you are single and earn less than $25,000, or married and jointly earn less than $50,000, you will not owe any income tax. That removes nearly 75 million households-over 50%-from the income tax rolls. They get a new one page form to send the IRS saying, "I win," those who would otherwise owe income taxes will save an average of nearly $1,000 each.
All other Americans will get a simpler tax code with four brackets -0%, 10%, 20% and 25% - instead of the current seven. This new tax code eliminates the marriage penalty and the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) while providing the lowest tax rate since before World War II.
No business of any size, from a Fortune 500 to a mom and pop shop to a freelancer living job to job, will pay more than 15% of their business income in taxes. This lower rate makes corporate inversions unnecessary by making America's tax rate one of the best in the world.
No family will have to pay the death tax. You earned and saved that money for your family, not the government. You paid taxes on it when you earned it.

They (the editors) say that they are not fact-checkers, when in fact that is exactly what the editors of a scientific journal should be.

Actually, under the praised to the skies system of peer review, that task is assigned to the reviewers. Usually two or three are assigned by the editors and those assigned are the principal scientist of a research group (i.e., the head of the lab and chief grant writer). Each reviewer often hands off the task to one of his or her underlings, usually a grad student, who does most of the review work. In my own case, I recall being asked to review three or four papers while a grad student. When I finished my work and had a writeup, my thesis advisor reviewed that with me, made corrections or upgrades, and then off it went. Learning this was part of the obligation my advisor took on to educate me into the scientific craft. As you may suspect, YMMV depending upon how seriously the mentor takes his or her responsibility and how comfortable they are with independent thinking.

If the data are not presented in sufficient detail to allow a reader to weigh the conclusions it should not be published.

This is the biggest fraud now being practiced by scientists - withholding sufficient data that renders somebody else incapable of checking their results. "Climate science" is the
most prominent offender in this regard, but they are by no means alone. Science by government grant has become little more than a money laundering operation whereby institutions and many researchers receive payola while mouthing pieties about peer review being sacrosanct and unquestionable. Professional scientists they are not; grifters and racketeers they are.

271 Readers are misunderstanding the spy plane story. It has nothing to do with "giving a spy plane to the Russian. The plane was SUPPOSED to land in Russia. It had ALREADY landed in Russia. It was flying from one Russian city, Ulan-Ude, to another Russian city, Yakutsk, with the consent of the Russians.

The reason this is a story is that instead of flying to Yakutsk, as we had told the Russians the plane was going to do, it flew to Khabarovsk, 1300 miles away. The US isn't upset, angry or embarrassed. It's the Russians who are upset because our plane was snooping in a place where it wasn't supposed to be.

The democrat primary and convention is quite illuminating if you can set aside your bias.

First, look at how the 'process' is supposed to work. You go to your local party convention and select, from among your peers, a represesative delegate to go to the nation convention where your delegate will meet with potential candidates and then use his own best judgement to select the one candidate best suited to compaign for the office.

Saying the game is rigged, saying the democrat super delegates, using their own best judgement, to decide the issues, is not democracy is the same trap that elevates democracy to a higher moral plain than a representative republic.

The founding fathers did not trust democracy for the very reasons on display at HIllary's speech last night. The mob is too easily swayed by subtle appeals to emotion. So the founding fathers set up a system where they, the elite, would moderate the emotional excesses of the lower classes, and left the responsibility of controlling the excesses of the elite to local voters.

What really is happening is the voters vent their bile every couple of years, or every four years which pacifies the mobs enough that we avoid civil war and revolution with every change in government.

Dick Morris recounts Hillary's history. It starts with Marxism, chafes in the middle with embarrassment ( she couldn't pass the D.C. Bar exam? ), and is replete with corruption. Funny thing is, as Morris lists the history, I was thinking of more stories that has been forgotten by the media.

313 LAKEHURST, N.J. An elderly woman was stranded in a wooded area for days without food but collected rainwater to drink before soldiers from the Massachusetts Army National Guard happened upon her car and saved her, officials said.

The soldiers had been training in New Jersey at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst and were on a scouting mission when they found the car deep in a wooded area Monday afternoon, the Guard said. The cars doors were open, and there was a sunshade in the windshield.

The soldiers found the 87-year-old woman slumped over in the backseat. She remained unresponsive after they honked the horn several times, but she awoke when a soldier approached.

At first we didnt know what to think of it because it was suspicious, said Staff Sgt. Dana Francis, of G Co. 186th Brigade Support Battalion.

We were thinking the worst, said Sgt. Tommy Coppola, who spotted the car along with Francis.

Francis and Coppola, who are civilian firefighters, went back to the training area and sought the help of two medics, Spec. John Shively and Pfc. Aaron Amardey-Wellington. The four returned to the car and helped the woman into a military ambulance.

325 Free trade only works when you have actual free trade. We never have had that, although after we separated from the British it got better for a while. Another requirement is that you do NOT have a Marxist style government that does everything it can do to hamper buisness and manufacturing while other countries do not. We do have that.

326 So, I work in a government HR Dept. Trump had a rally in town yesterday. A LIV, middle class white mom asked me a couple days ago if I knew anything about the rallies, how to get tickets, etc. Said she voted Obama in 08, didn't vote in 12, but had to see Trump in person to see if everything the media said was true.

This morning, she can't stop talking about the rally, how fun it was, etc. Then, she sat down with me and asked what all the "lock her up" stuff was about. As I explained the email stuff and Benghazi, you could see the light of recognition in her eyes that she had heard the terms, it had no clue about the details. Shes not on the Trump train, but certainly Trump curious.

She bumped into ANOTHER white middle class mom from my office at the rally, who had not made it known she was going. Very interesting.

"Independents" are a myth created by the MFM who often claim they represent 30% of the voting public who switch back and forth between parties.

In actuality, whether you are a registered with a party or not, nearly everybody votes for the same party every election. Those people who flip flop back and forth are more than likely less than 5% of the voting public.

The key to the Presidential election is turnout by the parties in those proverbial toss-up States. And guess what, polls do not measure turnout.

Look, it really depends on arithmetic, which depends on demographics. (Mark Steyn makes this argument)

So we should encourage the liberal left to practice their sacrement of abortion while we conservatives (Christians) make lots of babies and raise up our children with our values.

Which is why the democrat convention last night, which focused on mother hood and families, was so deceptive. The liberal left believes that babies are an unfair burden on women who just want to be free from the oppressive demands of the patriarchy. Which is why the democrats focus so much on 'education'. They don't want the burden of caring for their own children, but they do want the power to 'educate' your children.

372 >> it breaks a *lot* of eggs to make that omelet, in the form of tens of thousands out of work and whole factories moving to Mexico. The conservative intelligentsia's response is "Sucks to be you!".

The problem with many of these arguments is that they are an attempt to patch a system that is rife with problems, problems often caused by government or other "social justice" organizations.

The automotive industry and steel industries are prime examples of this. Both of these industries were dominated by powerful unions that completely warped the relationship between wage and contribution. US cars made in Detroit under union control weren't better vehicles, in fact for years they became increasingly inferior vehicles, and yet people were asked to pay a premium to support the wage element built into every car which in some cases was double what it would cost to build a foreign competitor.

Was the proper solution to put import quotas on cars which raise the price to the consumer, you? Of course not. The proper response was to move those factories to areas where wages could be more appropriately aligned with contribution. Hint, that doesn't mean overseas.

That's why we now have BMWs, Mercedes, Honda and models from virtually every car company in the world, including US auto manufacturers, building cars in the US. Just not in Detroit.

Free trade does not mean trade with no rules and restrictions. What it means is that instead of being an active participant of picking winners and losers, because that always works so well in a free society, government's job is to be a referee and to make sure rules are being followed.

What we have now is not free trade, it's government managed trade as anyone who has been in international business can tell you. The solution is not less free trade it's less government intervention.

I have seen articles who say the same thing I have said. By the MFM's definition I am an "independent" because I am not registered with a Party. By that definition every voter in SC is an independent because you do not "register" as a member of a Party here and the primaries are open. I have never voted for a Democrat and the only Republican I have refused to vote for in a final election is Lindsay Graham if you actually call him a Republican.

Yes, that is huge as well. China has virtually no regulations, so their products start off with a 25 percent price advantage, even before counting the labor cost differential. Witness freight rail deregulation in the U.S. in 1980 via the Staggers Act. A fractured, inefficient, broken, expensive tariff-managed industry vital to U.S. economy and security was deregulated, and within a decade it had rationalized, divested losers, begun investment in deferred maintenance, saw profit, improved service, and became a solid sector. Government's sole role has been to ensure that a consolidated industry doesn't rook captive bulk shippers and that rates are accessible and competitive via STB appeals.

It works when it's allowed to work and it's overseen, but not tinkered with.

The advantage a country like the US has is massively higher productivity, but it is becoming impossible to compete given the disparity in regulation.

True as far as it goes. It's pretty enlightening to take a tour of Chinese factories and see how they operate. They overwhelm with cheap labor, it's true.

But it's also true that much of what that cheap labor produces is absolute crap. China has a shit load more LI types they we do and they tend to not makes the best workers.

It's also true that China is a country in transition. Slow, painful transition which does not just mean a more open society, it means a more informed and a more demanding populace. I was in Hong Kong, which falls into the careful what you ask for category for China, during the student uprising. Hong Kong is an oasis of capitalism glued onto China and it is being overrun by Chinese mainlander demanding western goods and better quality.

I was also in Macau which is going through a similar reintegration into China. It is also now a bigger gambling destination that Vegas and growing. And most of the traffic is from China and the rest of Asia. They are slowly moving up the prosperity chain and that will result in higher wages. It's inevitable.

As I said, free trade doesn't mean no rules and do support government preventing countries from dumping in the US. But my last company had direct competitors in Indonesia and China to name a couple countries. We didn't compete on price because we couldn't. We competed on quality because they couldn't.

As you said, US companies are being harmed not so much by foreign competition but the onerous rules and regulations placed on them by our own government. That's what I want Trump or someone else to fix. Free US workers to compete and we will win.

394 "But what about your soul?"

Why the frequent demonization of redheads?

What you are doing is very disrespectful of a group of people based sole on their appearance, and, more it's a form of bullying. Please stop it. It only shows that conservatives are not all right when it comes to advocating only individual freedom (without morality). And that liberals have a point when it comes to protecting "victims" of aggression ... like your disrespectful bullying and dehumanizing of redheads.

396 I had an uncle (deceased) who was an intel research analyst and held other positions in the Foreign Service. He said when it comes to things like the plane in Russia, "You'll never know what was really going on so don't bother trying to figure it out."

400 Anyone who can't see that Merkel is under orders... well, I pity that person's skills of observation.

But, of course, to think that she is under orders is to believe in "conspiracy theories," like the idea that people we aren't aware of are deliberately shifting cultural demographics.

But that's crazy! Right? The rich and influential are ALWAYS above-board with us! They wouldn't "change the world" without announcing it and without asking for our permission!

401 As a fan of the Patriots, Sherman isn't very high on my list. But he went up quite a few slots with that comment, bravo, sir!

402 Ok, full disclosure, Richard Sherman is on my regional professional football team. Most of you may know him as the guy who went off on 49'er Michael Crabtree during an after game on-field interview after the 2014 NFC championship game. The drive-by sports media loves to pigeon-hole him as an arrogant, full-of-bluster player. To which I remind you, hey, if you know automatically not to trust the MSM portrait of anyone who is a conservative, please know that there is a similar effort by the sports MSM to portray certain players a certain way.

Yes, Sherman is passionate player. But off the field, he is a well-read, thoughtful guy who possesses a great deal of common sense. He first made comments in regard to the BLM movement after another Seahawks player was very vocal about the Michael Brown shooting. Sherman then pointed out that the black community needs to clean up black-on-black violence before blaming and singling out police for what was happening in singular situations.

He is unafraid to voice the opinions you read about in that article. And he has been called out by players upset that he doesn't 'get it.' He is also a tireless worker/supporter of various efforts to help others and runs a pretty incredible foundation. Just wanted to put in my two cents.
