New Regular Feature: The Monday Moron Medical Monitoring Thread

I'm going to do this Monday because -- you may have noticed -- it really takes me a while to get going on Mondays. Might as well do a post on Sunday that I can hold over for Monday.

Anyway, if you're now doing some kind of health regime, get your data ready to post on Monday. If you're on the "Take weekends off" type regime, maybe take your data today or tomorrow a.m.

I'll also post those stupid health tips I see. Like I'll mention cinnamon in the next one. I know most of this is crap, and I know some will say, "Ace, boy you're dumb. All that supplement crap is for the dummies. It's a sales gimmick."

Yeah, I kind of know that, Ill-Tempered Hypothetical Critic, but I have to tell you, there's often a good psychological benefit to this bullshit. If I accept -- wrongly -- that St. John's Wort will give me an extra boost in muscle growth when I lift, buying St. John's Wort will probably give me bigger gains.

Not because If-I-Believe-It-It-Must-Be-True or the placebo effect.

No, I'll probably have better gains because, now armed with a (fake) magic potion, I'll probably hit the gym more often than I otherwise would have. After all, gotta get the full benefits of this Magical St John's Wort Muscle Stimulator.

And of course, there is real stuff mixed in with the bullshit or "bro-science" as weightlifters call it; cinnamon is a stimulant, and, like any stimulant, it will help reduce weight a bit simply by boosting resting metabolism.

But, you know, there's like five things that actually have proven effects (beet juice powder will knock about 5 mm Hg off your blood pressure, for example; not a lot, but it's something), so expect mostly bullshit.

I might just make shit up like Chocolate Gives You Longer, More Spiritually Fulfilling Orgasms. Seems to be what "nutrition scientists" and the media do, anyway.

Also, there was continuing chatter in the last thread. Check it out if you like. For eample, if you like pizza, buy those low-carb tortillas they have at every supermarket. It makes for a low (6g) carb "pizza crust" for oven-baked pizza. 8-9 minutes at 450 or 500 degrees. Watch it, because when it's ready at this temperature it turns and burns fast.

That's actually my own recipe, by the way. I think. I think I just noticed those in the market and realized I could use them for pizza.

Hmmm... Solution to bunless burgers: Toast a portobello mushroom and use it as the bottom bun for a burger.

It will retain some of that sweet sweet fat that has most of the burger flavor.

From Tami and Bosk.

34 I don't buy them much anymore but I freakin' love nutritional supplements. I love the pseudo-scientific packaging and the cargo cult pictures of molecules. I love the fancy reflective paper. I think some sick part of me likes how overpriced they are because it proves they must be valuable. I have probably wasted thousands and thousands of dollars on these products, but I am strangely not upset about it. Those were some heady days in the gym lifting like I was on some kind of Spartan mission to slay a dragon.

36 My girlfriend got me to start running. She's been working on her wait for a while now, what with dieting and exercising, and I really haven't been worrying about that kind of stuff because I figure I want to enjoy while I can not having to count calories or spend much effort to stay in decent shape. I walk to/from work every day, so I average just under 5 miles and 10,000 steps daily that they recommend for you.

She really wants me to run a half (or a full) marathon with her, but I really just don't have the motivation to do something like that. I'm sure I could physically do it, but to properly train for something like that, you're going on runs for 3+ hours on your own, on more than one day out of the week. That's just too much of a time commitment for me.

No, deadlifts were the primary move today, but I also worked out upper back before beginning deadlifts. Monday is squat day, but also biceps after squatting. Wednesday, heavy bench and triceps (the exercises for both vary from Wednesday to Wednesday); Saturday is shoulders, very light bench and more triceps. So four days lifting total.

39 >>no one cares about a .2 pound loss overnight

You know, a few years back, I went against the CW on weighing, and weighed myself twice a day. First thing in the morning, last thing at night.

It was VERY educational. I tended to lose 2 lbs, not point-2, but 2.0 pounds overnight.

It culiminated in one weekend where I gorged on everything and gained 13 pounds. In one weekend. By the next monday, I had lost 12 of it.

They say "Don't weigh yourself so much, or you'll get freaked out and discouraged." I say, "Weigh yourself all the time and you'll realize how meaningless any given reading is."

I like wrapping the burger in lettuce though. In-N-Out's protein burger is a great, but it is a mess.

EVERY diet works.

I've never met a diet that didn't result in weight loss (unless it's, like, GOMAD, or something designed to increase weight).

It's like the Ferris book Ace mentioned: Yeah, just writing down what you eat helps. But also in that same book, there was a guy who just noted his weight in a spreadsheet, and it went down.

I'm at the gym from 1000-1130 lifting...by the time I get back home it's around Noon - exactly when my fasted state comes to an end. I have my post-workout protein shake as soon as I get home. But I put off that first meal until 1:00, which is easy to do. Today my first meal was two fried eggs and some bacon. In two hours I'll have a protein bar with a couple spoonfuls of peanut butter - for the fat content, at 4:00 pm I'll have 2 turkey wraps with a slice of cheese rolled inside, 2 grilled chicken thighs at 6:00 with some broccoli and baby bell peppers, and then a casein protein shake at 8:00. That's all the eating for the day.

80 The thing that sucks the most about working out is what you build to in a year takes less than half of that time to lose it.

I used to do a 1000 rep cross fit routine ( ten different body weight exercises 100 reps each , 90 minutes max) not that long ago. It would take me two days to complete now if ever.

Posted by: Joe Hallenbeck at July 22, 2016 02:57 PM (lC04h)

81 Strongly recommend you look into testosterone supplements. My testosterone is in the normal range but lower than the midpoint, and when I started taking a couple of supplements, I felt like I started making much more rapid gains in lean muscle, burning off more fat, and just having more energy in general. I'm 42, for reference.

I would not say it's dramatic. It's not like having three stiff drinks before getting on a plane, where you feel a difference in 90 seconds. But it's noticeable.

Thanks for the tip on intermittent fasting. I've been doing that (no intake between 8 PM and noon) and it's helped a lot too.

83 "But you do lose fat.
"

So I have a way to get looooots of fat but it's messy and not a eat with your hands thing.

I make a loco moco burger thing over rice (but that can be switched to riced cauliflower to drop the carbs)

So you make a cheese burger, then fry an egg in the grease.

After that make a roux with some gluten free flour and add cream/ seasoning to make a gravy.

Pour the gravy over the burger/fried egg.

Oh, and pork rinds can be used to bread anything for frying.

Eventually, you'll want to do more volume to make the muscles grow, and focus on weak spots, that's when a body part split is good.

the problem with this advice, often offered by people with no weight problem, is that you do not have the dysregulation in your bodily insulin that causes weightgain.

You're recommending a regime that "works" for you but only because you do not have the underlying metabolic disease that causes weigyt gain.

Sure, your regime works. Any regime would work for you. You do not have chronic hyperinsulimia syndrome.

126 I love burgers. Love them, but they make me fat. Back in college I had a moron theory that if I just worked in a restaurant with the food I loved, I'd hate it for the rest of my life because the smell would get to me, or something. So I worked as a line cook in a TexMex place.

Didn't work. I used TexMex ingredients to make myself a delicious, delicious burger every shift. Sometimes took one home for later, too.

So here I am now, middle-aged and a good 35 pounds overweight. But it used to be fifty pounds overweight.

What I do with burgers now is just remove the top half of the bun. Weight loss is a game of inches.

Another thing you can do is get some vinegar action going, which reduces the glycemic index of carbs, or so I've read, so your body won't be hit by an avalanche of sugar. I do a small green salad with a balsamic dressing with my burger instead of fries (well, sometimes I steal a fry or two from my kids and dip it in the balsamic - it's delicious) or heck, just drink some water with a couple teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in it before the meal if I'm making burgers at home.

Oh, I do like the idea of posting stats on Monday. Looking forward to them. 192 today, trying to get down into the low 160s or high 150s

Don't get me started on crossfit. Oly lifts at breakneck speed for the general population...no, just no. Not to mention the stress it puts on your body and joints. Yes, I know....tons of people do it. Doesn't mean tons of people haven't been hurt or will find out later what they've done to their body. /crossfit rant off.

Muscles grow when you progressively increase the difficulty of exercise using many muscle groups at the same time. Weak spots will strengthen also.

insulin is an antagonist/suppressor to human growth hormone, so hopefully the vinegar is also indirectly boosting HGH.

134 My advice on weighing thyself-- do so just once a particular day, same time every day you weigh if at all possible. (Like right after you get up and use the bathroom and before you have anything to eat or drink.)

Every day if you can swing it, but at least once a week. (I weigh myself Saturday and Sunday mornings, because I have enough trouble getting to work on time as it is-- so , so lazy.) If you miss a day, or week, or something, just weigh as soon as you remember.

Then graph the shit out of it. Microsoft Excel if you have it, or OpenOffice.org has a nice spreadsheet program.

Yeah, numbers and +/- are nice to read, but the visual of a nice graph is cool.

Especially over a long period of time and if you're successful.

I have found if I eat a huge breakfast and a light lunch I lose more weight than if I eat in the evenings, even if the hours and basic types of calories consumed don't change. I can eat eat anything I want, including carbs, in the morning and fast after lunch and get results. That doesn't hold true for nighttime dining.

166 I know this is a meat-lovers' blog, but I gotta tell ya, I haven't eaten meat in 20+ years, and I feel very healthy -- healthier now that I did feel as a meat-eater 20 years ago.

I'm so healthy that I basically never go to the doctor.

However, last year, at the urging of loved ones, I was cajoled to go to a doctor for "a checkup." He found nothing wrong with me, and then did a "blood workup" where they take blood and do every imaginable test on it. When the results came back, the doctor told me that (his exact exact words) I "could not be healthier" and that my "numbers were amazing" and that he "was jealous" of me because on every imaginable criteria I was in perfect shape or better.

Personally, I ascribe this to two things:

-- No meat;

-- Intentionally ultra-low-stress lifestyle.

Of the two, I think the second is actually more important.

Stress leads to cortisol. Cortisol, over the long term, screws up every system in your body.

So chill, and have some tofu.

190 What you need to do is read a bunch of stuff about supplements and then go out and buy a big EXPENSIVE bottle of Whatever pills.

Put the bottle on the kitchen counter for about 7 days, no more than 10. Every time you see it say, "I need to start taking that stuff." This should be said, silently or aloud, at least 5 times a day.

After that period, put it in a cupboard and let the bottle sit for at least 3 years, until the sell-by date has well passed. Clean out the cupboard, discard the outdated bottle of pills.

Repeat this procedure as often as you like.

The basic magnesium supplement you buy in Walmart/CVS/Walgreens is magnesium oxide, which is mostly worthless. It has a bio-availability rate of only 4 percent. Instead, get magnesium chloride which is closer to 80 percent, meaning you are getting the benefit. Magnesium Glycinate Chelate is also good.

201 I am sort of into supplements a bit but I'm selective.

I've been taking Ginko for years, and feel my memory had improved and got the SO to take it and he feels his has improved too. Ginko helps build capillaries in the brain, so the 'not verified by the USDA' benefit is increased blood flow to the brain, which people believe helps memory. It's subtle, but over time I really feel there is a difference, as in even sometimes when I am butt ass tired I can remember something I would normally forget.

The other supplement I take is collagen/resveratrol, although I don't take the three pills they recommend, just 1-2 a day. After a while your body produces less collagen which makes your skin look saggy but apparently if it is available, your body will use it.

The last thing I suggest people read about it metformin, which is used by adults for type 2 diabetes. It is being hailed as a potential life extending drug, although you have to be careful about lactic acidosis, which people with kidney disease or high daily consumption of alcohol really have to worry about, (it can also give you diarrhea, and I don't mean of the mouth). I have to be on it for the next few months for something, and I wish I could be on it longer - it has helped my sleep, and I had hit a plateau but am slowly losing weight, I think because my blood sugar is under control and more importantly I am able to resist cravings better.

And I've been absent for a while, was editing my latest book and had a deadline for that, but I've seen mentions that ace is quitting?!?!?!? Scrolled down and didn't see a thread about it, nor is it pinned... care to fill in?

203 I have hit a plateau.. I slowly lost about 30 lbs since Christmas just doing lower carbs.. I won't say low carbs, because I do eat some.. just cut back.

But I think I have to step it up to get passed this plateau.

I'd be happy to lose another 30, but the truth is I could lose 80 or 90 to get to "ideal" weight.. but with bad knees, I don't have the option of adding a lot of exercise to the mix to speed things up.

I guess I'll try the intermittent fasting again for a while.

It's completely anti-no-pain-no-gain. And I wonder if it's not more effective for building aerobic muscles.

When you start, though, you're not supposed to do any anaerobic workouts. Which is just like Rippetoe, interestingly, who says not to do any endurance work while starting your strength training.

The real crossfit guys could certainly do a good number of real pull-ups (they are in great shape) but they could never do the numbers they pretend to do with the spastic writhing their way up to the bar (and many don't get their chins over the bar, either).

When we used to do the Presidential Fitness thing in high school we were not allowed to move our lower body during the pull-ups. The crossfitters should have the decency to just name those exercises something else - not just call them "kips" but have the official name be kips, since we know they aren't pull-ups.

One more thing, for anyone doing high protein, low carb, PLEASE go to the doctor and have your kidney numbers checked. I know two people, one is 27 (!), who have discovered they have kidney disease. There are no symptoms until late and you've lost most function. Protein molecules are large, so they are harder on the filtration system of the kidneys so if you already have kidney disease, it accelerates the degradation.

226 Then explain to me why they 'count' during it? What are they counting?

They're counting the reps, yes.

You're missing the point of the workout though. It's not about *strength* per se, it's about work done over time. They're doing the workouts as fast as possible. So "more reps" equals "more work done" OR "all reps done in less time" equals more work done in a shorter time. It's not about HOW they do the pullups, but how many they're doing in a certain amount of time.

Hell, kipping isn't even the biggest form of "cheating" what you're likely complaining about is "butterflying", which is even sillier, and faster.

I'm pretty sure that Rich Froning, for instanct, could do as many strict pullups as you ask him to, but you won't see him doing them as part of a crossfit workout unless they're specified...

For the ladies, BTW:

Apple cider vinegar? Vicious stuff, taken straight. The Borgias should have used it instead of arsenic. However, if you mix it with water and sip it from a wine glass, you can tell yourself it's some expensive white wine that has gone off a little, and you need to drink it before it's ruined.

Some dope kid took too much and died at football practice in 105 degree heat in Illinois and his mom predictably went before congress and said "Wah... my son was a retard... do something!" and of course they banned ephedera which was super effective. Anyway, you can still get ephedera and create your own ECA stack. Really keeps the appetitie in check and and boosts the resting metabolism. Weight falls off quick.

Ah, but you are wrong, Ace. All sorts of vinegar-y drinks are now being marketed that are pretty delicious.

First, look into switchels -- vinegary drinks that were popular in 18th-century and 19th-century America. Various hipster companies (several in NY) are making and selling these now. Vinegary AND tasty.

Also, same with "shrubs," which are usually used in mixed-drinks, but can be drunk straight, too. Shrubs are more vinegary than switchels, usually, but otherwise are similar.

Also, there is a company called Pok-Pok that make excellent Thai-style "drinkable vinegar" for the US hipster market.

Also, look into the "Gut Shot" company that makes drinkable pickle juice and vinegary beet juice. Quite good.

Combined, there are all sorts of way to have vinegar in your diet that is drinkable and even tasty.

If I hold on to something I can do it, though if I do that too much I get pain in the lower back, hips and/or hams. I'm trying to build up, though, and figure I might be able to go back to weights by the time I'm past the starting point of the Maffetone program.

You're attempting 'ass-to-grass' squats. Stop it.
Do box squats instead. Most gyms have a platform these days...at various heights...that prevent you from going below parallel. Don't go below parallel. Unless you're 20 and indestructible. And box squat with a wide stance and your toes pointed outward...takes all the stress of your knees and enables the work to be done by your quads, hams, glutes and hips. As intended.

They say that whatever weight or body shape one has at 60 years old,
that will probably be your permanent condition until you die. It's why I
don't pay much attention to diets or holistic approaches to body
maintainence. I eat what I want when I want it.

And, yes, I'm overweight, but I can still do all the things I want
to do. I can still walk whatever distance I need to walk, mow my yard,
do whatever lifting needs to be done, go scuba diving, etc. I'll die
when God says it's time for me to die. Nothing I can do to prevent
that.

Many years ago, I had a pretty fine rowing machine. The load (which could be ajusted) was actually a small alternator. The output of the alternator drove a microcomputer-controlled load. The microputer also measured the *exact* energy delivered to the load.

The consequence was that the cumulative work done could be accurately displayed in calories.

My experience was that it takes a *lot* of effort to burn off a bottle-of-beer's-worth of calories. I don't think I ever worked off more than 150 calories at a sitting, and that took maybe 1/2 hour of steady, hard rowing.

YMMV

I'm not actually attempting ass-to-grass, except when I'm not using weight and holding on to something. For weighted squats, I have a cage, and a I have a bench, and I'd be happy if I could do a box squat but I can't even get parallel.

I just saw a documentary, "My Love, Don't Cross That River" about an old Korean couple who have known each other 75 years. I noted the 96+ year old guy, who was dying of, I dunno, consumption, still had no problem squatting.

Also, none of the pain I get from squatting is in the knees. It's all in the pelvic girdle region, down the thighs. I think handling that is probably more important than the actual squat. I may try that DDP yoga people were yakking about yesterday.

379 My low-carb ersatz pizza: make crust from a mix of ground turkey, almond meal, an egg, and some italian spices. Bake that first for a few minutes, then top like a regular pizza.

People should bear in mind that there is not one solution to all weight problems. Those who only need to lose a few pounds for optimal health probably can just do the "eat a little less, exercise a bit more." For those of us in the insulin-resistant camp, that simply does not work. I have been in medically-supervised programs, followed the instructions to the letter, and after plateauing, GAINED weight.

That's why I am interested to learn about IF. I need to reset my insulin, bad. If it does that, a few gnawed arms on my co-workers is a small price to pay, right? Human flesh is low carb!

Believe it or not, Ace, I'm on it for fertility. It's been shown to increase fertility and I am on an IVF cycle.
When I can't take it any more I am considering going to a longevity doctor because I have heard they prescribe drugs for non traditional uses that your normal GP is reluctant to do. Since you've read about it you know there are even indications that it can help prevent cancer.

Controlling insulin though seems like a no brainer, makes total sense with regard to wear and tear on the body and weight. Just being on it for a month and a half earlier this year and the same now and for another month, I notice the difference. I work from home, and if I got bored or stressed would snack and 'try' to be healthy but you know how it goes. I find it easier to tell when I am 'full' too, and push the food aside. Having more regulated blood sugar has been a great.
If you have hyperinsulimia, is it possible to get metformin through that route?

Another thing I take is MSM. The horses and dogs also get MSM. I believe MSM gives the body building material to make minor repairs to cartilage. My knee twinges went away after taking it for a while. However MSM is no miracle cure, my one horse with serious knee arthritis needs Previcoxx for comfort. BTW I read somewhere that one needs like 7-9 mg daily of MSM so most human pill forms won't give you enough to do any good. I dissolve 3/4 teaspoon of loose MSM in tea twice a day to get my dosage. It tastes horrible if mixed in something cold and not dissolved.

408 All y'all taking magnesium want to make sure that you're balancing it with calcium, and taking it in a form your body will actually absorb. There are concotions you can buy to facilitate this, and they're mostly based around our old pal--that's right: vinegar.

However, you can also buy or make bone broth. I have some sort of cal/mag deficiency that makes it very easy for me to induce calf cramps, and I've found either cal/mag or bone broth will make it go away.

Bone broth can be eaten (per Fung) without breaking fast, and food is probably better than not-food, where possible.

Depending on the intensity of your workouts, I think you'll notice an improvement in your recovery time. After about 10 days, I noticed I wasn't so darn sore for days after a workout as before. And I'm lifting as heavy as ever. Hell, I'm lifting better.

Even though your shoulders are sore, you can still pound your triceps. You can isolate them and work them out hard without recruiting the shoulders. And you can't lock out a bench press without triceps, so blast away.

422 Ehh, I prefer using lettuce wrap for my bunless burger. You can actually still hold it like a regular burger. The trick to making the big lettuce cups to hold the burger is: Take the head of lettuce and bang the stem of the lettuce against the edge of your sink 3-4 times. The stem will pull right out. Then, turn the lettuce over and run cold water from the tap down into the hold left by the stem. The water will go down inside of the lettuce and the weight of the water will separate the layers of the lettuce for you. This also cleans out all the dirt and grit too. Then, you'll have nice big, clean lettuce cups you can use to put burger patties, cold cuts, or to make Thai lettuce wraps with.

425 Something I have found interesting is how people UNDERestimate how much they need to lose. I get everyone can be as big or as small as they want. However, when people say they need to lose a few pounds it really is more like 25.

And really big people might think they need to lose 30-40 when really, it's 60-70 or more.

Just an observation.

My friend who looked great lost 35 pounds. Found his abs and looks lean and defined. Not emaciated, not skinny. Lean and muscular. Kind of like those pictures of guys around WWII with their shirts off.

426 If you're taking cinnamon supplements you want to look for "Cinnulin" which is the active component that - taken at the right dose - stabilizes blood sugar. I'm on crutches right now and housebound so the only exercise I'm doing is/are quad sets. Before my first knee reconstruction many years ago the doc asked me "Do you wan't to be able to walk when you're forty?". Now I need to lose weight to take the stress off my effed up knees. I'm too young for a replacement.

427 For the record, I'm on the anti-government diet. The top three (by far) subsidized foods are verboten. That means no corn, soy or wheat. Second, I invert Michelle's MyPlate. Bad is good, good is bad. Enjoying 3000 cals per day, 60% fat. And most of the fat is of the horrifically tasty saturated variety. 5'9"/160lbs. @ 435 Bluebell I take 3 tumeric tablets daily (1 after each meal). I have been using 'Youtheory" Tumeric which contains 450 mg of Tumeric extract (which is 95% curcuminoids) epr 3 tablets. It also has 15 mgs of black pepper extract and 300 mg of olive leaf extract per 3 tablets.

For any of you with joint problems or swelling it seems to work. I have knee problems (debris in there and they told me at the hospital in China I should have surgery which I declined). I also have sciatica from the same accident.

The tumeric has really helped with swelling.

I also have been taking Glucosamine-Chrodroitin-MSM supplement (2-3 a day). I have been drinking more vitamin D milk with it because it works better with that.

That coupled with a couple of hours of physical therapy every day has me up and running around again.

They did not give me any physical therapy in China. I downloaded it off the inter tubes and it has been working wonders. I have 5 pages (30 exercises) for the knees and 2 pages (6 exercises) for the sciatica. You have to do them every day or at least 3-4 days a week minimum. I do it daily and have been doing it for about a month.

It's a lot easier to lose weight when you can actually walk again.

439 For those of you that take curcumin or turmeric, how much do you take each day? My knees want to know. Thank you.

Posted by: bluebell at July 22, 2016 04:56 PM (805dc

I get mine online, Newport Natural Health. They have a joint compound that is curcumin and collagen. Been taking it for 4 yrs. About $1/day. Best stuff ever.

440 @438: I too had good success using glucosamine with chondrytin. Until my gout flared up.

Seems I have a low tolerance for shellfish.

441 Woo.
I'll try to do more formal monitoring. But, again, Intermittent Fasting is still seeming to go ok.

443 Portobello bun? But I hate mushrooms. They have, like, gills.

Posted by: SarahW at July 22, 2016 07:48 PM (Sp1NT)

444 I will stick to iceberg lettuce buns. There's a little latex in the leaves but if you don't eat too much usually nothing bad happens.

Posted by: SarahW at July 22, 2016 07:49 PM (Sp1NT)

445 I gained weight. It took a long long long time. But now it's gained and it has to come off. All my really nice clothes are 0's and 2's. I have sufficiently decent 4-6 things. A couple of ten-year old 8s (and up), supplemented recently by a visit to the "comfortable loose clothing for women of a certain age" desperation store.

We'll see how the cusp of crone-hood affects my diet success. I had better get it all off now or it will be too late.

Worrisome: I have had some accumulation of fat in the tummy and that never happened before. I hope it comes off.

Posted by: SarahW at July 22, 2016 07:56 PM (Sp1NT)

446 oops. I said 7-9 mgs of MSM. That should be 7-9 grams, 7000 to 9000 milligrams. But the 1.5 tsp a day is correct. I just bought bulk turmeric spice and put it in size 0 capsules and I take 2. Less arthritic dog gets 1/day, dog with back arthritis gets 2/day and both dogs are about 90 lbs. But then I'm not seeing super results for myself, I only noticed a definite improvement in the dogs. I however take Alleve or ibuprofen for aches and pains. If I couldn't take that I would buy the pills that have the active compound in turmeric if I didn't get noticeable relief with no more than 3-4 capsules of the plain spice.

447 At age 64, I'm fortunate in having very good health - I'm seldom sick, and I take no meds at all, apart from the occasional ibuprofen. One thing I do take, though, is a daily probiotic capsule. I find that my nether regions are much happier with it; in particular, I'm much less given to flatulence.

Call it the placebo effect, if you prefer; to which I say, Hooray for the placebo effect!

448 Anyone doing Auto Immune Protocol eating plan?
I have psoriatic arthritis and a few other Auto immune issues... Hashimoto's thryoid...
I am desperately trying to avoid the "fatal events have occurred" meds.

449 >>>4 I love this idea.

I'm on the original intermittent fasting thread watching the videos from bottom to top. Finally got to the Hodge twins and they're driving me nuts with the constant tooth-sucking. The fuck is wrong with them? They twitch their mugs around incessantly, like a couple geezer with painful dentures.

...

it's a gag. They do the same thing in Every. Single. Video. They are doing some kind of parody of meatheads they've seen, even though they are, of course, actually meatheads. But clever ones.

450 btw, my fat fast is not producing the pomegranate red ketostick response I had planned, but it is dropping weight.

I blew through my 187 plateau and went down to 185.5, and that's a day weight. my morning weight should be like 184.

Posted by: ace at July 22, 2016 10:19 PM (dciA+)

451 i once spent a weekend watching the Hodge twins almost nonstop

it was heaven

you should watch them

but that's just my advice

do whatever

THE FUCK

you wanna do

Posted by: ace at July 22, 2016 10:20 PM (dciA+)

452 the hodge twins offered a bizarre confession. one of the most bizarre ones i've ever heard.

one twin came home to find some other guy fucking his girlfriend.

so what did he do?

he watched.

And jerked off.

while watching. while physically present in the room, unbeknownst to the trysting couple.

Yes, he did this. It's in his video.

Not... not what I would have done, I don't think.

453 I'm in. I plateaued hard for 6 months and then gave up. I'm up big time. This has to turn around.

454 Ace, if you knock chocolate, or orgasms, I will never be on board with this whole health thing.
