Good Morning Morons. Today is Saturday, July 16, 2016. On this day in 1790 the District of Columbia was established as the capital of the United States after signature of the Residence Act. This was a compromise brokered by Thomas Jefferson because the advocates of the VA-MD site did not have enough votes in congress at the time to move the capitol from NYC to Washington, DC. Under the compromise congress would pass the Assumption Act which transferred all State Debts from the Revolutionary War to the federal government. VA had opposed this because it had already paid its debts. The compromise was agreed to and the assumption act was passed. The capitol was moved from NYC to Philadelphia until the city could be built and was then transferred to the new site. As it turns out VA was cheated and would have been better off leaving the capitol and all its headaches in NYC.

And Pence has joined Trump in calling for a temporary halt to immigration from countries with an abundance of muzzie terrorists. I totally agree with this, and it should be specified that the ban will not be lifted until the heads of the State Department and FBI BOTH sign statements sealed under oath and affirmation that the immigrants from the country to which the ban will be lifted can now be adequately vetted.
But that is not my most preferred action. I believe this was Turkey's ( Erdogan's) Reichstag fire to weed out the secularists in the military and government along with a populist move. The scapegoat group in PA does not hold water. He calls himself god of the New Ottoman empire/Caliphate.
I'm not buying a coup staged by a 200-300 military personnel total with the 2nd largest military in NATO. Everything went way to smoothly.

He should have demanded honest neutral panel members who were not Washington insiders for either Party and included a panel leader who was trained in Root Cause Analysis or not held the commission at all and told the public why. Bush campaigned on the tax cut. Sure, he said he wasn't going to do nation-building, but it was really all about the $1T tax cut in 2000. Once in office, he raised that number to $1.3T or so. The Democrats fought him every step of the way. In the end, the Dems talked him down to $1.2T and claimed it as a win, and Bush let them claim their win. Bush, however, won - big time - and everyone knew it but he didn't gloat.
By mid September 2001, everything had changed. Bush correctly perceived a state of war, and war requires unity. He didn't get into spitting contests with the Democrats or the media; he had a broader view. So accommodation was part of his leadership recipe.
We can Monday-morning-quarterback his presidency and nitpick all the things he did wrong, but he made a lot of hard decisions without knowing how things would turn out. Looking back, I'd say W was one of the best presidents this nation has ever had.

It seems the Obama administration made billions of dollars in unappropriated, illegal payments to their ObamaCare cronies beginning in 2014. And now they won't disclose how much they paid in total, or how they justified it to fiscal watchdogs at the Treasury.

No more scam money or government employee checks for fraud. The EU technocrats will have a stroke next week over it. I presume the Brits can keep their teakettles, hair dryers and AGA stoves too rather than burning dung in their huts like Brussels prefers.

Your memory of the Bush years is sure different than mine. My recollection is the first things he did after getting in office was the no child socialist program and the prescription drug program, 100% socialism. And he crossed the aisle to join up with Ted the Swimmer to do it.
After that 90% of his efforts were directed at invading Iraq. I was against that because I knew it would be another Vietnam; the US wins and the Democrats give it back to the enemy as soon as they get control. And that is exactly what happened.
And the best Republican President after WWII is RR even if he wasn't perfect. Perfect would be silent Cal.
