21 I watched this segment on the Special Report with Baier last night, and it was as you'd expect, but there was a zinger in there from April Ryan.

CHARLES HURT: I get that there is unfairness here, but it's a job he sought and is he a job that his smart enough that he could do a lot better and the way you do it is by pursuing blind just and that you know --

RYAN: He wouldn't have gotten a second term, trust me.

The look on Hurt's face after that... (not shown in newsbusters video clip), basically, it was a "gotcha" and "exactly right."

She basically said, if the SCOAMF was fair and just to all, regardless of race, he wouldn't have gotten a 2nd term. Yep.

http://bit.ly/29CViDt

She also lied about the statistics, quoting the Washington Post, but leaving out critical numbers (not in video).

24 Mother's on WV. The waters aren't receding - they had that much, and more since. The dams are holding, and they're trying to time the releases so as not to make matters worse.

Initial response was, as always, locals helping locals, and while help from outside is getting it, most of it, she informs me, is not needed now, as most people have already gotten as stable as they can while they wait and wait for the waters to go down so they can see what they'll do next.

28 I am straight sick of it. If you watch the news, much less listen to activists, it sounds like there is a police war against blacks, and they speak as though it must be silently conceded that police kill black suspects at a higher rate than other races.

It would be a great point if it were true.

Percentage of police arrestees in 2013 that were black: 28.3%

https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2013/crime-in-the-u.s.-2013/tables/table-43

Percentage of police arrestees in 2014 that were black: 27.8%

https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2014/crime-in-the-u.s.-2014/tables/table-43

2015 FBI data is not yet available.

So how does that compare to the percentage of people who are black killed by police during an arrest attempt? I bet most people who rely on the media for their information on the subject would guess 60% or worse. It would certainly have to be greater than the rate of arrest encounters, right? Otherwise, there is no race-based problem. The media has assured us there is.

Percentage of those killed by police in 2015 that were black: 26.5%

https://thesocietypages.org/toolbox/police-killing-of-blacks/
*first data box, please note the site uses the data to attempt to make the opposite point, rather ineptly*

In other words, African Americans are killed by police at the same rate as they are arrested. If you are black, you run no greater risk of being killed while arrested than if you were white.

You do, however, run a much greater risk of being used as a media propaganda tool.

46 I haven't listened to Rush L. in a while, but I found this transcript (maybe here?) The stats are "jawdropping" as Rush says.

http://bit.ly/29BBctp

I wonder if the author has a short list of data somewhere else online. I know that facts don't matter, but it's better to have them then not.

She wrote The War on Cops

excerpt (but the whole transcript is worth a read)

MAC DONALD: Rush, here's another very politically incorrect fact, and I don't want to racialize policing, people should not. But if we're going to talk about race and policing, let's talk about cop killings. Over the last decade, black males made up 40 percent of all cop killers, even though they're six percent of the population. It turns out, Rush, that a police officer is 18-and-a-half times more likely to be killed by a black male than an unarmed black male is likely to be killed by a police officer.

RUSH: Say that again. She said this to me in the interview yesterday and I was sitting here with my mouth open. We just don't hear this. This is the result of your research. You're not making this up. You're not opinionizing. This is it. Say that one more time.

MAC DONALD: Again, you can look at the data on police shootings. If you look at those numbers, and it's in my book, the arithmetic that I generated this by, a police officer is 18-and-a-half times more likely to be shot by a black male than an unarmed black male is likely to be shot by a police officer. So, again, there's been an effort in Chicago by some city aldermen there to create a Blue Lives Matter law. And that has been attacked as racist by the Black Lives Matter activists out there and the ACLU.

63 Suprising absolutely nobody, AG Loretta Lynch told BLM protestors to continue to shut down highways and disrupt commerce, as well as make aggressive moves and shout hate at the cops that oppress them at their rallies.
The DOJ has their back, as they continue the important work of starting a race war.

Hellary, on the other hand, calls for whites to change, and only whites. No one other then whites, it seems to her, are culpable in any way for the deaths of black men in cities they've never gone to, by cops they don't know.

Good to know that I've been completely "othered" now. The task is finished.

love the warm sunny days

sit under and umbrella or shade tree, and sip some water with lemon, mint leaves, etc, and read - so relaxing (the bug nets are great if you live in a buggy area; some just are tossed over a patio umbrella and work like the camping nets)

we just redid an area of pavers that were causing water build up issues (the contractor sukked when they originally put them in), and I'm enjoying rainy days and watching it drain correctly this weekend. It's a relief, it seems to have worked. Took us a while to redo them, but worth it.

still need to do some other outside home maintenance, but that was the big one

The lesson is: if you find yourself unable to not get personal when arguing your point, it might be best to step away for a few hours.

Man, that could be fun.

Posted by: ScoggDog at July 09, 2016 09:41 AM (fiGNd)

166 I think Maet's explanation in the comments last night was very good. If you haven't seen it, here it is:

http://acecomments.mu.nu/?blog=86&post=364607#c25484180

Your point is certainly true - Ace and the cobs don't see every comment and therefore don't get the histories that fuel some of these things.

The lesson is: if you find yourself unable to not get personal when arguing your point, it might be best to step away for a few hours.

There was a thread a while back in which a few commenters spent dozens of comments ridiculing a long-time commenter. It was off-topic, excessive, boring "mean girls" behavior. That's the sort of thing you can expect to result in a banning in the future.
Posted by: Y-not (@moxiemom) at July 09, 2016 09:34 AM (t5zYU)

I saw, read it, and again, accept that they can make the rules.

I think though, there are times when ALL OF US are capable of being uncivil, and in a way, Ace's declaration is his way of saying he's not going to allow for discussion/warnings, etc. Again, he has the right to make the rules, but he's also human.

And that type of threat is, as I have said before, elsewhere, is an act of uncivil aggressiveness, in and of itself.

Said she was feeling really worthless and had nothing to live for. Also admitted that she was drunk. The morons were incredibly helpful and supportive.

Apparently she had a good convo w/SW and was feeling much better about things the next day.

Yeah, to me it's a form of entertainment to watch people get worked up about things that are so unimportant. Like sports teams and favorite movies/music etc.

We're human. We disagree, we act irrationally at times, and we are capable of experiencing tunnel vision to the point of being absurd in our biases.

Not necessarily. When you bring it up repeatedly and double down on it, it becomes bothersome

I've had numerous discussions with ace & other folks who are atheists about God and our founding fathers. You can ask questions, make comments but when you start calling names, telling folk to fuck off or calling for violence.......you are asking to be banned.

Are the traps sprung and the bait is gone?
What works best I think are the Victor snap traps. You can even use them unbaited. Mice like to run along walls. Place the traps there, making sure that the metal snap portion, when sprung, goes toward the wall. Otherwise you can fling them into the middle of the room.

241 Conservative Treehouse has done some excellent sleuthing on the Minnesota traffic-stop shooting.

Apparently the cops stopped the car because the driver matched the description of a suspect in an armed robbery a few days earlier. If you look at the photos on CT's site, you can see the clear resemblance between the robber and the driver who was shot. It will be interesting to see how this develops.

Also, saw a couple of headlines yesterday saying that the coroner had ruled the Minnesota death a homicide. Well, duh.

There are only 5 possible causes of death that a coroner can put on a death certificate: homicide, suicide, natural causes, accident, and unknown.

When a person is shot to death by another person, regardless of the circumstances, it is always a "homicide." That doesn't mean it was murder, and it doesn't even mean it was unlawful. Just means that another person caused the death.

I say poison as a last resort.

What's worse, living with it or not?

I have issues with mice all of the time because of the woods surrounding our home. Traps always work for us. In one night. We have 3, and we put one in the basement, near the pipes they may traverse, and one or two in the kitchen, just under the cabinet against the floor boards. We catch them in the basement the most. But once or twice, the kitchen floor. We use peanut butter, and make it fresh each time.

It might be you have a nest in the house (above the dishwasher, they like that space and you won't know it), or elsewhere, and there is a litter of them.

245 Once I had a rat in my apartment. I had had mice before and managed to get rid of them and plugged up the openings to keep more from getting in.

But then I found clear evidence that a rat had gotten in somehow. I saw larger turds and a bunch of aluminum foil and macaroni stashed behind the stove.

My downstairs neighbor had recently adopted a kitten which was nearly full-grown. The neighbor and her kids were going away for the weekend and I asked if I could borrow Chloe. At age 42 I had never had a cat before and I had to buy cat food, a litterbox, and litter.

Chloe didn't kill the rat, but she must have persuaded it to leave somehow, because I never saw any more evidence.

Chloe and I became BFFs, and I ended up adopting two of her kittens.

That rat was the best thing that ever happened to me. I had never had a cat before, and now I can't imagine life without them.

Trump slashes TV appearances as advisers clash over controlling his message

...

Donald Trump, in a sharp shift in strategy, is now refusing to appear on many television outlets, and top advisers who want to limit his exposure are no longer notifying him of every interview request.

According to sources familiar with the campaign, one faction is worried that the constant rounds of interviews entail too much risk of the candidate making mistakes or fanning minor controversies, even though his mastery at driving the media agenda helped power his Republican primary victory.

A series of clashes over these and other tactical questions has caused Trump himself to openly question who is running his campaign, the sources say. And he has expressed anger when he believes his orders aren't being followed.

On the media front, Trump is no longer appearing on CNN or MSNBC. He is staying off the Sunday talk shows. Nearly all his national television interviews since June 1 have been with Fox News.

1) Buy traps ( I used T REX: powerful and disposable)

2) Zip tie traps open - so that they will not close even if triggered.

3) Bait traps. Leave in place for a couple of days, reloading the bait as needed. The idea is to get them used to the idea of eating from the traps safely.

4) On Day 3 , cut the zip ties. Boom.

5) Place a full bucket of water nearby to drown any near-kills.

I got 4 rats in a single day within hours of cutting the ties. True story.

Also, the sidebar link to Jonah Goldberg - "There's a reason she wears those smocks that make her look like the United Federation of Planets' ambassador to Rigel 7" totally made me think of the Rygel, the greedy, gluttonous, self-absorbed character on Farscape. Needed a good laugh!

he is what you said

sometimes he's dead on, sometimes he's not

he hates when people tell him he's wrong (which he is a lot)

he talks over people if it isn't what he wants to hear

but when he delves into things like, it's the black family that has broken down, or sanctuary cities, and the Kate's Law (which is his reputation, I know, that he cares about), at least he is right there, and keeps pushing it. Someone has to that reaches millions every night.

296 Oddly enough, I miss girls' softball. Youngest played for years on local teams and did pretty well and had fun. One year, we lost every single game until the last two and then went on to win the inter-city. It took those independent cusses that long to learn to play as a team and not privileged (my private coach is better than yours) individuals. It was funny and inspiring at the same time.

One night I had dosed off on the couch in the family room, and was awoken by this light scraping noise under a nearby bureau. Get out the flashlight, look under it and see there's a baby mouse whose back legs are stuck, so he's using his front legs to tray to run away from all - 4 additional (dead) tiny mice in tow. Ugh.

309 The city had cleaned out the drainage ditch behind a townhouse I owned a decade ago. That resulted in big ass sewer rats in my attic. The first thing I did was put down the largest sticky trap they made. I was watching TV one night and it sounded like someone was in my attic throwing a metal trash can back and forth. Of course it was a chihuahua sized rat and the trap tumbling all around. Lesson was if you are trapping rats, secure the trap to the floor. And a sand wedge to finish the job.

331 Facebook refuses to take down the cop decapitation image put up by the black panthers or their allies.

If you wonder why people like me want to see Facebook, Twitter, and even Google broken up, and of course want to see trade and immigration limited this is prime example number 1. Yes it is not traditional economic "conservatism" to wish to see the destruction of successful American companies.

But then again no conservative could have ever dreamed of the day that American companies would support leftism and the destruction of the country. Well that day has arrived, and realism needs to take over. Sitting back and allowing these platforms to be used to promote Anti-American propaganda, and even promoting the slaughter of Americans in the name of the leftist religion is no longer an option.

Start with boycotts, and start supporting those leaders who will use legal means to break the companies up, even if it means making up monopolistic charges to bring them competition, and reduce their political power. High mindedness is of no values against those who play by the rules of tooth and claw.

I thought sweaters for dogs were dumb. But I noticed on my neighbor's dog that he really likes when I put my hand under the sweater and scratch him. He seems to enjoy the tugging of the material making the scratching even more enjoyable.

374 Morons, I rise this morning to make a comment for the record, as happens in Congress. After all, this IS a congress.

Last night the Baltimore Orioles celebrated and commemorated the FIFTIETH (50th!!) anniversary of the 1966 World Series Championship team. The assembled members of that champion team were feted and cheered, appropriately so. The men, aged and frail, were once of the finest athletes of their generation. They were powerful, swift, agile and relentless in their sport. As a personal note, I was 10 in 1966, and lived in a region bereft of major league baseball - so I could pick and choose which team to follow, as i became aware. and i chose the Orioles. THESE Orioles.

Thank you for a lifetime of fandom. you were, and remain, great men.

I still can't get over the fact that the black panthers could stand outside a polling station with billy clubs antagonizing voters and nothing was done. Nothing. Holder and co.

People should have at least known by then...

Another "good" thing O'Reilly is talking about. He said the BLM group is bad for America. The NAACP wipe he had on just kept supporting them and disagreeing with O'Reilly.

He's right. The BLM, funded by Soros, the black panthers, the muslim bro. (who were part of obama's "church"), etc. They are all violent people. Community "organizers."

382 The daily mail about the Dallas shooter and his sexual harassment in Afghanastan

According to a court filing Glendening read over the phone Friday, the victim said she wanted Johnson to 'receive mental help,' while also seeking a protective order to keep him away from her and her family, wherever they went. Johnson was ordered to avoid all contact with her

His unit recommended he receive a UOTHC. That's the worst administrative discharge you can get. Any worse you go to court martial. But once he got home, the unit gave him an honorable discharge. Which means his unit commander and the unit jag are lazy fucks who need to be really examined hard over this

I can smell the fear through the USB port. I can assure you that any black on white racism will go dutifully ignored by any Powers That Be, so no one needs to quit blogging and get real jobs just yet.

Threats of violence or calls for incitement thereto I can completely understand, but "racism"? Spare me. So what type of racism are you afraid of, exactly? Cause some are apparently OK these days.

I was raised to be race neutral, because to be otherwise was racist. I
have "mixed-race" family. Now I'm told that I'm racist because I'm not
"race conscious", which is code for favoring "minorities" over whites.

The most "racist" people I know in my personal life are "minorities" because they can say and do what they want and get away with it. Because they have Top Cover. So you might what to focus your collective ire on that overt thuggery and less on the bullshite microaggressions like some white guy that puts salt on his fries instead of pepper at the lunch table.

I don't belong to a tribe. But lefty identity politicians and protestors have put me, and all the Dreaded Whiteys into one. And now I have people my shade trying to patrol my speech so they aren't embarrassed. So why not play their game and support the tribe they placed me in, because I'm sure as hell not going to be made a silent scapegoat for all of their woes and a wallet for all their damage claims.

386 Migawd, Eris, those illustrations are gorgeous. I had forgotten the older comics were so intricate and well drawn. I have gotten used to the plot and joke driven comics like Pastis' Pearls Before Swine, and Pastis admits he can't draw.

I loved Calvin and Hobbes because of the composition, and I liked the Tin Tin books because of the detail and how it meshed with the story, but that looks like scrawls on a fence next to Caniff's Terry and the Pirates.

Now I love a lot of Sluggy Freelance, but I now am wondering what the Holiday Wars or the Oceans Unmoving arcs would have looked like if Caniff had done the artwork.

That was just before my time. The first World Series I remember was 1967.

The Orioles were heavy underdogs in 1966. Everybody thought the Dodgers' fabled pitching staff would eat them alive.

Turns out the Orioles didn't need to score very many runs because their own pitchers utterly shut the Dodgers down. LA scored two runs in Game 1, and that was IT.

That was a team performance almost on a par with Christy Mathewson in 1905.

395 I couldn't believe how the bad Fox News coverage of the Baton Rouge protest was. It was during Hannity's show and it was just so depressing on so many levels,. The reporter on the scene was beyond clueless, and he interviewed the protesters as though he was dealing with people who actually knew what was going on. They were incoherent, spouting "Fuck tha Police" and "Jesus is Love" in equal measure. It was almost like a party atmosphere with people milling about in front to a cordon of police in riot gear, and everyone held their cell phones aloft, aimed at the the nervous-looking cops.
Hannity was being a douche as usual, trying to get the reporter to ask the protesters about the "Pigs in a Blanket. Fry them like Bacon!!" chant from the Dallas protest and the reporter either didn't hear him, or pretended he didn't.

I'm really sad for the future of this country. The black community is largely a disaster, so successful have the Democrats been in reducing them to the status of children.
And the answer to all of this is --by the left and the media --even more of this.

I take a pair of needlenose pliers and just pinch the trigger loop on the trap pan slightly (that's the part of the trap that holds the spring arm down) to make it more of a hair trigger. Also use a piece of fishing line and 2 thumbtacks, one in the body of the trap and one in a beam or other wood object to keep them from spazzing into an area you cant get to.

No, it's about formula one racing. In formula one you don't have to watch the final few laps to see who wins, just the first one. There is some odd rule against passing I guess. I have the Rosberg T-shirt, not Hamilton's
