4 Good Morning Morons. Today is Saturday, July 02, 2016. On this day in 1776 the Continental Congress adopted the resolution severing ties with the Kingdom of Great Britain. The wording of the formal Declaration of Independence was not approved until July 4 which is why we celebrate Independence day on July 4th.

Twenty years ago I was jumping up and down bitching and moaning that giving China permanent most favored nation status was going to decimate American manufacturing. Even my state senator knew and speechified we would lose control.

It nearly 15 years before people woke up and said, 'What the hell just happened? ' At that point we had BLS stats that showed we lost nearly 60, 000 factories and five million jobs.

There were a lot of clueless people in the Senate. I like Newt, he's a fighter, too. I'm not sure he deserves a pass on this. Too lazy to see if he was still in the Senate to vote on China MFT bill. I suspect he was out already.

Free trade does not mean we lobotomize ourselves. We differentiate between friends and rivals/enemies. It's one thing to be trading in things like apparel, cosmetics, etc. But sensitive technology always, or at least in a sane world, have real export controls.

Hell, the Clintons GAVE them our MIRV technology. For that alone they really do deserve to be stood against a wall for treason.

_______________________

I wouldn't say that. The Clintons were known to be a couple of crooks back when they were just starting out in the backwaters of Arkansas. I still remember reading about how astonished and giddy they were when they woke up in the White House on the first morning after they had moved in -- they couldn't believe they had been able to con so many people. (A feeling a lot of us shared).

Now decades and an impeachment later, we're still dealing with these two shameless grifters. They've stolen billions through their phony "charitable foundation," Hillary has committed outright treason and is under an active criminal investigation, and yet there is still a good chance she'll end up being elected president in November. It boggles the mind what they have gotten away with. And not just the fact that they've never gone to jail, but that they've made themselves and everyone around them filthy rich in the process, and that they're treated like royalty.

I wouldn't call that failure. They've succeeded massively at their corruption.

As to Newt's past position, he very eloquently and convincingly laid out the case why tariffs are bad and free trade is good, citing everyone from Hayek to Bastiat and Friedman. And I agree with him wholeheartedly. The laws of economics are what they are. You either believe in free market capitalism or you don't.

Again, as with people, there's no such thing as equality with countries and instances of national security and other things notwithstanding, the fewer the barriers to commerce the better it is for economies, countries and individuals.

Listen, I enjoy sports, games, all sorts of competition. But everyone plays by the same rules.

American manufacturing was fatally handicapped from the start. I had personal (even front page business section) experience with dealing with the EPA, OSHA, DER, IRS, DOL, etc.

74 I am going this morning to have a MRI on my knee. I am going to one of those stand alone places and it will cost me $600 as compared to $2000 if done at a hospital.

My doctor said, though, that if you go to those places for a MRI of anything BUT knees you are wasting time and money. The magnets they use are significantly weaker and so the readings they give on hands or feet are useless - knees are OK because they are large joints.

So there is a medical tip - stand alone MRIs are definitely worth except when they are not. Ask your doctor if he will accept them first.

Meanwhile, in the Golden State, duck!:

Crime went up in California in 2015, with year-to-year jumps in murders, robberies and car thefts according to statistics released Friday by Attorney General Kamala Harris. The increases were in many cases significant, Killings across the state were up 10 percent.

The attorney general reported that, amid the crime increase, felony arrests fell by 29 percent last year. But that was because many lesser felonies were reclassified as misdemeanors following the passage of Proposition 47 in late 2014, not because Californians suddenly changed their natures.

Odd, we opened the prison doors, coddled the criminal element, grabbed the guns and somehow crime is going UP.

'Tis most mysterious.

92 Re the Charleston church families suing the FBI over the gun buy: the article says they are suing because the FBI passed the killer on his background check because they missed his drug conviction. But, the sheriff's clerk entered the conviction info incorrectly into the system. The FBI saw the info about the drug conviction, but because of the mistake, went to the wrong place for more info and could find none, thus they had to clear the guy.

How is this standing for suing the FBI rather than the sheriff's office? I'm not an attorney, but it looks to me like the FBI did its job as best it could.

You're never going to get equality among trading partners, as with people. The idea is to let actual competition allow the chips to fall where they may. The iron jackboot on the throat of the economy was, is and always will be overregulation. Get rid of that and you will see America boom like never before, no matter what China, India or whoever does.

And the idea of punishing companies who leave the US is just flat out tyrannical and antithetical to liberty.

This video was linked in the ONT. It's about the group "By Any Means Necessary". Those are the peaceful tolerant liberals who violently broke up a rally by a white supremacist group that had a legal permit to speak in public.

I've only watched the first five minutes or so. That's all I've been able to stomach. These people are extraordinarily dangerous. They are absolutely convinced of their righteousness. Our colleges are turning them out by the millions.

They are America's Khmer Rouge. Imagine them with guns instead of baseball bats. They would happily shoot you in the head and kick you into the ditch if they thought you were a "white supremacist".

Note also that it is the official policy of the Federal government that "white supremacism" is a greater threat than radical Islam.

A thorough review of a complex issue like this simply cannot be conducted in haste. In fact, we may have to consider appointing a special prosecutor to evaluate all the material form both DoJ and the FBI. In the meantime, it saddens me to relate that the DoJ has filed multiple charges, to be announced later, against FBI Director Comey; however, I can tell you now that the main charge against Director Comey is "Failure To Know Which Side His Bread Is Buttered On".

As I posted way up in the original early comments, I blame the Republicans. You have to expect the Democrats to support fascist laws and departments like the TSA. But the Republicans have made no effort to repeal the stupid law that created the TSA and haven't even made an effort to reign in their behavior like that shit there.

For the ten-millionth time I ask, WTF good does it do to vote Republican? Sure they will grandstand for the cameras on committees while the TV is rolling but in the end they do nothing.

I think all TSA agents (like most of the police state we have allowed in our midst) are shielded from personal responsibility in almost the most egregious cases imaginable. Having said that, in a just world, these scum would be ruined financially, personally, driven out of their homes and communities, and shunned by civilized people everywhere!

In our current world, they're probably going to get performance bonuses!

164 Am surprised this is only the first. The other day in NYC I watched a group of women ride their Citibikes like a pack the wrong way down a one-way street in oncoming traffic! I guess because it was a cobblestone street they thought it was Disney-esque and harmless?
Posted by: RondinellaMamma at July 02, 2016 08:24 AM (oQQwD)

Sure but Citibike is not to blame for riders behaving like jackasses.

My old bike kinda fell apart on me last summer and I was going to get a new one, but I decided to do the city rental bike thing instead. However, I use my bike for one thing only - going on the bike trail and getting an hour's worth of enjoyable exercise. There is a stand near my place right by the bike trail so I never have to get on the street. Unfortunately *sigh* no bike riding for me right now.

What is really stupid is when I looked up online where the stands are in Milwaukee (here they are called Bublr bikes) Many of them are in the hood. I have to wonder who the hell is riding bikes in the hood, how many are stolen or vandalized. I can see hoods puncturing tires just for the hell of it.

All Bush did was sign the bill. The Democrats had control of the Senate and with aid of the RINOs were able to get the bill through. True Bush should have vetoed it but he didn't give us that load of crap.

Also remember that the Democrats pinky swore it would not be union. Of course they lied.

The "our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor" phrase was NOT a throwaway line to those men.

My rough calculation is that today in a far larger population than then, about 1% of today's incumbent politicians could sign a document containing that phrase and even remotely mean it!
