Quote of the Day I

Moreover, charity given as of right, for that is what the welfare state does, favors the undeserving more than the deserving, in so far as the undeserving have a capacity and even talent for generating more neediness than the deserving. (They also tend to be more vocal in their demands.)

The welfare state in fact dissolves the very notion of desert, because there is no requirement that a beneficiary prove he deserves what he is legally entitled to. And where what is given is given as of right, not only will a recipient feel no gratitude for it, but it must be given without compassion-that is, without regard to any individual's actual situation. In the welfare state, the notion of a specially deserving case is prohibited, for it implies a distinction between the deserving and the undeserving.

-- Theodore Dalrymple

Quote of the Day II

Before there was American exceptionalism there was British exceptionalism - in both cases, based on the idea that freedom is the unique mission of the English-speaking peoples.

It need not be put in such exclusionary terms. I would be very happy if many more countries regarded themselves as having a proprietary national interest in liberty. (The French think they do, but they don't.) At the very least, we should do what we can to preserve or re-establish that idea where it has a long history.

-- Robert Tracinski in UK After Brexit

Quote of the Day III - Life in the EU Edition

The French economy is stagnant. GDP growth for the latest quarter was 0.6%. Over the past decade, growth has rarely risen above 1%. The unemployment rate is over 10% and the youth unemployment is 25%. Clearly tax and regulatory reform, including more labor flexibility, are needed to encourage employers to hire.

As an example of the difficulty of firing workers, a French court this week ruled that Société Générale rogue trader Jérôme Kerviel, who lost $5.5 billion of the bank's assets in 2008 and almost caused its bankruptcy, had been unfairly dismissed. Société Générale was ordered to pay Kerviel $511,000 because it decided he was dismissed "without cause."

Quote of the Day IV - Yada Yada Edition

What gets reported is "Well, me and my girlfriends met at Lisa's apartment to pre- game. I had a beer and a shot there. Then we went to This Bar and That Bar and I had three shots at the first place and an Appletini at the second place plus this guy gave me half his beer. So, we were dancing and then Lisa and Cindy left. So the guy who gave me half his beer said we should go to This Other Bar to meet his friend and we did. And I had two shots and then he bought me this mixed drink. I don't remember what it was called or what was in it. And then I had another beer and we danced and I remember we were making out at one point in the bathroom and I gave him a blow job. Then I remember we left This Other bar-"

Needle scratch. Wait a minute. You gave him oral sex?

"Well, yeah."

Battleground Ad Spending in June: Team Hillary $26 million, Team Trump $0

Well I guess Trump's running an experiment to see if money and advertising still matter in politics.

But given these trend lines maybe this isn't the right time to take chances by going cheap.

AK Rifle Used By Terrorists in Paris Attacks Traced Back To Phoenix Gun Owner

Who was also found to be in possession of an unregistered automatic weapon....and then things get rather murky and suspicious *cough*FastAndFurious*cough:

The investigative follow up of the Paris weapon consisted of tracking a paper trail using a 4473 form, which documents a gun's ownership history by, among other things, using serial numbers. The Phoenix gun owner that the weapon was traced back to was found to have at least two federal firearms violations - for selling one weapon illegally and possessing an unregistered automatic-but no enforcement or prosecutorial action was taken against the individual. Instead, ATF leaders went out of their way to keep the information under the radar and ensure that the gun owner's identity was "kept quiet," according to law enforcement sources involved with the case. "Agents were told, in the process of taking the fully auto, not to anger the seller to prevent him from going public," a veteran law enforcement official told Judicial Watch.

The Social Effects of Ethnic Diversity

Not that diversity doesn't have some benefits but it definitely has social costs as well.

Relying on diversity measures computed at the apartment block level under conditions of exogenous allocation of public housing in France, this paper identifies the effects of ethnic diversity on social relationships and housing quality. Housing Survey data reveal that diversity induces social anomie. Through the channel of anomie, diversity accounts for the inability of residents to sanction others for vandalism and to act collectively to demand proper building maintenance. However, anomie also lowers opportunities for violent confrontations, which are not related to diversity.

So University Students Are Now Basically Just Hyper-Sensitive Adolescent Girls

La Trobe's student union and the women's officers at the University of Sydney issue warnings for content relating to classism, colonialism, Islamophobia, ableism, body image, child abuse, mental illness and weapons.

They go as far as warning students about content relating to needles, insects, food, pregnancy, eye contact, slimy things, skulls, vomit and blood.

How British journalists talk about people they're not allowed to talk about

"Famed horn-blower, Bill Clinton." maybe. Or "Sax-mad Bill Clinton". Nothing that screams "MONICA LEWINSKY GAVE CLINTON A BLOWIE", but enough to tip off those scouting for clues that they're getting warmer.

Clearly that's a hypothetical example, but this happens a lot more than you'd realise.

Let's say an actor took out an injunction to prevent stories leaking about him visiting a prostitute on the sly. Let's also say that this actor had appeared in an otherwise unremarkable production of the play 'Tis Pity She's A Whore early in their career. There's no good reason to mention that, but you can bet your bottom dollar that that's what the sneakier journalists are going to lead with next time they discuss that actor in print.

Ireland was neutral, although there were many Irish who went over to fight for Britain, and I believe they even looked the other way when Brit pilots would escape detainment back to England. Remember that an independent Ireland had only been around since about 1919, and peace on the island was tenuous at best. Joining the war would likely have split the country between pro-Allies and anti-British factions.

74 Bernie Sanders had an interesting op-ed in the New York Times this morning:

https://tinyurl.com/z6yanru

It's a fascinating mashup of sense and nonsense. He almost kind of gets it:

Let's be clear. The global economy is not working for the majority of people in our country and the world. This is an economic model developed by the economic elite to benefit the economic elite. We need real change.

That is dead bang on. But then he goes on to say that we need better international cooperation. *facepalm*

I definitely believe that Trump is making a play for Bernie supporters, and that is the right thing to do. Many of them are disaffected by the status quo and know they're being ass-raped by globalism. Some of them realize that Hillary is the epitome of the corrupt political insiders.

86 Since I pretty much missed the thread earlier on David Thatcher earlier in the day, let me relate some of the rest of the story.

Ted Lawson's plane was the seventh aircraft. But it could have been pushed overboard if the crew had reported a major defect in the bomber's electrical system that prevented Thatcher's turret from operating properly. Thatcher could only use the batteries to power the turret. Of course Ruptured Duck almost did not make it off USS Hornet because Lawson and his co-pilot forgot to lower the flaps. Luckily they had enough deck and wind over deck to compensate. But that was hardly the last of the danger this crew faced.

After bombing their target, they had to escape to China. With bad weather, a setting sun, and no navigation beacons on top of rapidly running out of fuel. Like Hite's crew, Lawson tried to set down on an island off the Chinese shore. But the long sand beach grabbed at the lowered landing gear causing a terrific crash. Lawson was catapulted out of the cockpit and his leg was split wide open. His navigator who was perched behind the pilots had his shoulders broken. In fact every officer was wounded to some extent or another. So it fell Staff Sergeant Thatcher to administer first-aid and then seek out Chinese assistance. Luckily Thatcher found friendly guerrillas as opposed to Hite's crew who were turned over to the Japanese by their erstwhile Chinese hosts.

For these actions, Thatcher was awarded the Silver Star.

And I must note one more thing. When Hite passed away, he was the last Raider POW. Now that Thatcher has passed away, so has the last surviving enlisted Raider.

In 2013 at the 71st Raider Reunion I was very fortunate to shake the hands and say thank you to Ed Saylor, Richard Cole, and David Thatcher.

89 Bruce, I remember when I took a British Literature class in my senior year (1983-84), learning the history of their island. Basically, bloodbath after bloodbath right up through the enlightenment and beyond.

I started getting the idea then, and still kind of have it now, they're only so sedate and genteel now, just to keep from going crazy. Kind of a cultural/societal PTSD.

There are other cultural groups who I think are in a similar predicament.

102 Speaking of Brexit, I popped over to Brooks England to see if it had an effect on their beautiful bicycle saddles. Don't know if this was due to the pound falling versus the dollar, but I scored a special Swallow saddle with hammered copper rivets and copper-plated (colored) rails at a price I've never matched anywhere else. Paid about 40% less than I had ever seen it priced before.

Don't know if anyone else here cares about bicycle saddles, but if you are looking for a narrow leather saddle, that Brooks Swallow is very nice.

105 So, this morning I ran into a Brit I know, wife of a lefty cow-orker. I asked her what she thought about Brexit, trying to keep a semi-sad look on my face.

To my great surprise, she broke into a big smile and said, "Fabulous!" Went into a rant about Brussels and the preservation of traditional English independence from the Continent.

Now I'm wondering whether she is in a mixed marriage, i.e., maybe she's a conservative married to a lefty.
There were a lot of Labour voters who went for Brexit, to be sure, but those were mostly blue-collar types, which she decidedly is not.

Something to ponder--this country, because of the principles it was founded on plus the adherence TO those principles has resulted in the most exceptional country AND people on the planet.

Those principles, or precepts, if you will are these three:

The Declaration of independence--the WHY.

The Bill of Rights--that which is inalienable for ALL.

The Constitution--the BLUEPRINT.

Our bedrock--these precepts-- are still existent, under the filth and perversion deposited by the left. They can never be completely suppressed or denied.

In time, this or future generations will reestablish them.Of course we'll prevail because we are Americans and as such are denied the option of failure. A cursory look at our history will show that.

So hold that head HIGH and never despair. The outcome isn't in doubt no matter the present conditions.

And if you cannot bring yourself to fight for this country then I hope your chains rest lightly on you.

She's remembering bits and pieces of being in the hospital, but can't remember her state of mind, what a hole she was in and all that.

They're more in a mood to speculate on what could have caused it, and their guess is what everyone else was thinking, something about the surgery, the anesthesia, shock to the system, etc., but they did say they've seen it happen with people in their 80s before. No history of mental problems, then go under a major surgery and then bam! batshit in some fashion.

Now, tomorrow, I've got to carry up to the knee surgeon to check out her knee. That's just been on the back burner and he's gonna check that out and restart whatever needs to be done there.

That Brooks Saddle is a nice one. I know a couple people who run those and love them.

I can't reccommend those to other people unless they like extremely firm saddles.

Anything soft on my saddle and I run into saddle sore issues.

Well, knock on wood, we carried me sainted mother up to the
fizz-ee-key-atrists up there today, she's been home about 2 weeks, and
they think she's good to go, no sign of the depression. She can't
remember any of it, actually.

She's remembering bits and pieces
of being in the hospital, but can't remember her state of mind, what a
hole she was in and all that.

They're more in a mood to
speculate on what could have caused it, and their guess is what everyone
else was thinking, something about the surgery, the anesthesia, shock
to the system, etc., but they did say they've seen it happen with people
in their 80s before. No history of mental problems, then go under a
major surgery and then bam! batshit in some fashion.

Now,
tomorrow, I've got to carry up to the knee surgeon to check out her
knee. That's just been on the back burner and he's gonna check that out
and restart whatever needs to be done there.

This is indeed good news.

You should note that you were entirely correct to be alert, skeptical, suspicious, and concerned....and even if the "they" that proposed, "approved", and executed this treatment have had their case borne out by subsequent success, some of their tactics were more than a little troubling....and you should consider how best to implement safeguards for those who are close to you to avoid such railroading in the future.

That said, it does look like a potentially valid treatment in some time-compressed circumstances (sort of like an emergency tracheotomy with a ballpoint-pen housing as a trach-tube).

Yeah, they are lightweight saddles.

Those Avocet Saddles are getting hard to find. Though, they did make a Women's Model which was a bit wider and cushier in the rear. I think it was the 02w. It is easier to find a clean one of those.

The Prologo is really comfortable for such a minimalist mtb saddle.

London mayor Boris Johnson has rescued a woman who was being attacked by an armed group of young girls, chasing them down the road on his bicycle.

Franny Armstrong called for help as she was surrounded and pushed by the girls, one of whom had an iron bar, in Camden, north London, on Monday night.

The mayor, who was cycling past, stopped and chased the girls down the street, calling them: "Oiks".

Ms Armstrong said: "He was my knight on a shining bicycle."

In a related story, the Alaskan Bush Pilots have (or had) and annual contest for shortest take off and landing. There was a young kid in a J-3 Piper Cub (I think) and he brought that plane in to land, and it looked like it stopped in mid air and then settled down to roll about ten feet. When it took off, he got it in the air in what looked like five feet. Amazing thing to see.

186 Dear Morons,

One of my wishes during this 7 /2 year durge march to socialist utopia was for Mooch's wighat to blow off. It almost happened in Madrid as her fat repulsive arse descended the plane stairs (walking on very odd shoes, I might add. Her tranny skillz are improving). Lots of wind, and, for once, not from her.

She and the gurls were holding onto their dresses. Actually, after studying the UK Daily Mail's fabulous photos, Mooch appeared more concerned about wighat than her billowy dress (which, thank heavens above, did not show the world her nether region).

Anyway!!! One photo shows a sort of black band on the top of her ear. It almost went gone with the wind, leaving her to whatever lurks under there.

Now, if Obarfy should fall either up or down the stairs of AF Won (I will take either, not picky), I will be one happy Queen with evil check list complete.

Oh, and I am wondering if Huma cut a deal for immunity with the email fracas. Let's not forget she was investigated for criminal double dipping with salary a few years ago. I know, it is hard to keep up. I read the column on Daily Mail about the Clinton Foundation's swinging door of paybacks, and those numbers boggle the mind. Something in the sum of $200 million unaccounted for.

G' night. Sleep tight. Don't let the zika's bite. xoxo

We live two blocks from a city park, in a community that is reasonably well-off. Every year on the 4th, some folks think it's patriotic to set off major fireworks (i.e. mortars) when they don't fully get what they're doing. This is a standard suburban subdivision, built with wood shake roofs 60 years ago....about one roof in every five is tinder, waiting for the slightest spark....

A few years back, a construction worker left a torch, it burned up a building on Satanic Row, and an ember fried a shake-roofed apartment building -- could have easily been us, if the wind had been in a different direction.

So popping sounds -- could be gunfire, could be fireworks, whatever -- merit caution. But not if they're ascribed to earthquake faults.

Based on nothing in particular, I suspect that young ladies in radical Islamic households are persuaded by their families to attach themselves to losers who can barely pass as assimilated for a set number of years, to be their houris from paradise, to provide their son to carry on the family name, and to ensure their "martyrdom operations" are carried-off successfully. San Bernadino was very similar, except that westerners could easily be fooled by the wife looking like Brian's mom in Monty Python's "The Life of Brian".

There is no reason to ship a semiauto only AK knockoff that was originally imported from Eastern Europe for the American domestic market from Mexico where it has some value, to Europe. European arms dealers have access to shit tons of genuine full auto war surplus AKs from war zones much closer to Europe. Libya, the Balkan wars, the Ukraine, Syria...

Just seems unprofitable and therefore improbable.

Yeah, call me weird, but if someone's stalking me....I generally figure it's "Ira Weatheral", who has been stalking me since May of 2015 and who dropped a keylogger on me, causing me to take all my disks online....including the ones where I'd been accumulating information about cyberstalking.

I'm reasonably certain it's actually a guy named Jon who has a wife named Suze who lives rather close to me. Reading between the lines in his wife's Facebook postings, she's a high-tech Sputtering Engineer and he's pretty much her psychotic pet. She travels all over the world with her girlfriends and takes pictures with exotic locations....she has pictures of him drinking coffee in local campsites.

I opened a case with the Santa Clara PD when he was threatening the fiancee, and keep stuffing shit into it as time permits. The SCPD keep spacing me off, but I eventually hope to take Jon and Suze's house in a civil suit.

This is the Reader's Digest version. Unfortunately, it's all true.

Let me just start with -- if you call Amazon Customer Service with a name, address, and private email (just like is on every resume on the planet), they will start blabbing about shit on your wishlist, stuff you've ordered, creditcards you've ordered with, shipping addresses, expiration dates -- with three items normally on a resume, Amazon will totally dump everything about your digital life without a qualm.

Those things can be leveraged to take control of more of your digital universe -- credit cards and last-four-digits can get you a whole lot of places.

He is running and trips without touching another person or object, looses a weapon onto the floor, and person near sees this and runs away. Bomber is laying on floor for seconds rolling around a little before going kablamo. Was he hoping people would rush over to see what happened to him? Did he take a fake dive? But if so why would he toss the the weapon?

Good Morning Morons. Today is Thursday, June 30, 2016. On this day in 1934 Adolf Hitler sent his Brown Shirt goons to kill his political rivals. This later became known as the Night of the Long Knives and it should have awakened the world to what kind of man he was. But he still had supporters in the US such as Henry Ford who continued to do business with him up until the US entered WWII.

Democratic members of the Federal Election Commission, in a decision to be made public on Thursday, voted last month to punish Fox News over criteria changes for the network's first Republican presidential primary debate, but were blocked by Republican commissioners.

388 I suspect the media is upset with Lynch because her "seemingly" reckless and irresponsible meeting could mean that when Hilary is not indicted some people might erroneously assume that the fix was in. So the story will take just a little longer to fade away. As anyone who is anyone knows, the focus at that time, should be on the coronation of Princess Powersuit.

390 I remember TEA party folks getting passionately pissed off during town halls over Obamacare.

The corruption and lies comes at such a furious pace now there's no way to keep up.

My rage stroke motor needs an emergency kickstarter.

392 Clintons. Crooked as a dogs hind leg, crooked as a snake, so crooked that when they're buried they'll have to be screwed into the ground. And that's their good point.

393 Lynch is confident that she can diffuse any criticisms with her smooth talk and protected status.

And she's probably right.

398 Whatever happened to Noor Salman Mateen - The Orlando shooters wife?

Last I read (over a week ago) she'd "disappeared off the fed's radar".

Any links?

399 As a moron, Candidate Jean is compromised. The oppo guys would find some dark spots on my resume -- so no SES/elected office for me. So there is no hope in my ramblings.

400 Lady in Black

I really don't get why the left is so enamored with her. Specially the feminist. Writing as an older woman, I think she is where she is because of some man's coattail. First it was Bill's now it's Obama's. I don't think that there is one thing that she can point to that is hers and hers alone. Whitewater, cattle futures, CGI and the email scandal notwithstanding. It's truly a shame that she isn't more along the lines of Ann Richards or Barbara Jordan.

401 NY Daily News - CIA Director John Brennan believes ISIS will attack U.S.

However the government will never actually admit it's ISIS

CIA Director John Brennan, one day after the deadly terror strike on the Turkish airport, warned that the Islamic hate group was likely plotting the same type of carnage for American soil.

Oh I see, it's not a terrorist organization. It's a "hate group". Keep spinning it kids while the bodies keep piling up

.It is like when my Grandmother died and I refused to go up to the casket to see her. I figured if I didn't actually see her laying there I could still make believe that she was alive.
