Nigel Farage's Life's Work Comes to Fruition as the UK Votes for Brexit For over 25 years he's been relentlessly making the case that Britain should leave the EU, a position long considered so extremist and out there that it was simply unthinkable. But last week a majority of Britons agreed with him and voted for Brexit. Few men have endured the sheer amount of official scorn, mockery, revilement, and unhinged criticism over the years that Farage has. But he persevered on anyway. His entire life has been one giant unsafe place and stands in rebuke to all the university snowflakes who get the vapors at even a hint of disagreement. Ironically without a seat in parliament to fall back to his very success in getting Britain to leave the EU could mean the end of his political career at least for a while. The EU's Potemkin Democratic Structure It's an oligarchy in all but name. Most of its intrusive rules come from unelected bureaucrats and are never put to a vote. Jean-Claude Juncker has been the president of the European Commission for the last couple of years. He presides over a population of nearly 500 million -- well, 500 million minus 64 million as of today. Why The EU was Hated Part II: EU To Ban Electric Tea Kettles and Toasters After Brexit For being too energy 'inefficient'. Note that they held off announcing this until after the referendum since it's exactly the kind of thing that would drive the tea-and-toast-loving Brits nuts. Because Boris Johnson was born in the US and lived there for several years as a child the IRS came after him nearly 50 years later demanding back taxes for his income and house sale in Britain.

If you've ever known people who work for federal or state agencies you won't be surprised by this. This is how bureaucracies work. Some bureaucrat carries out policies by setting up arbitrary numbers (goals) that must be met. If the numbers or goals don't work in reality, too bad. They don't bother to adjust them or be more flexible because these drones are going to keep their jobs, and probably be promoted, regardless. Posted by: nerdygirl at June 26, 2016 11:44 PM (+lVUW) 43

Rimmer accidentally saves the life of a Space Corps Captain and is promoted to officer, while Cat takes time off from being in love with himself to fall in love with a female cat with a secret. The tea kettles and toasters make no sense even from a Greenie point of view: You have to boil the water or toast the bread, you're just going to make the device do it slower by reducing its wattage, but the watt-hours to do the job would be the same, probably even a little more due to increased heat loss over the longer time.

Not that I know jack about tea - but to make a proper brew the water has to be brought up to boiling VERY rapidly to avoid de-oxyigenating (sp) the water - very high current required.
A cultural attack. Posted by: Burnt Toast at June 26, 2016 11:30 PM (P/kVC) And faulty science, too. Not that faulty science is anything surprising from the gerbil worming alarmists. An electric kettle has its heating element immersed in the water being heated. All the energy consumed goes into the water, and some inevitably escapes into the surrounding air as the water heats the casing of the kettle, and steam is evolved. Those same losses occur with a kettle on a gas or electric range, but in the case of a kettle on a range, some of the heat from the burner or element goes directly into the air, and never warms the kettle. Advantage: electric kettle. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at June 27, 2016 12:37 AM (GSdpU) 131
>> 2) Toilets that cannot flush a single ply toilet sheet.
Interestingly enough, some 1.6-liter toilets do a great job, and some are horrible. We have a Duravit (wall-mounted European thing with a tank up in the wall) in the master bathroom, and between the bowl/trap design and the pressure head of the high-mounted tank I thnk it's plugged twice in the past twelve years. We have an American Standard pressure-bomb toilet in the hall bathroom that can also flush just about anything, though it sounds like a mortar round hitting the pin when you flush it. That bathroom's due for a remodel soon and I'm trying to figure out how to get one of the in-wall Duravits in there. We also have a cheap Toto in the third bath, and it plugs at least once a week even though it's the least-used of the three. If I didn't have a list of round tuits about fourteen pages long it'd have been gone by now. Posted by: JEM at June 27, 2016 12:38 AM (o+SC1) 132

Qubes OS is a security-oriented, Fedora-based desktop Linux distribution whose main concept is "security by isolation" by using domains implemented as lightweight Xen virtual machines. It attempts to combine two contradictory goals: how to make the isolation between domains as strong as possible, mainly due to clever architecture that minimises the amount of trusted code, and how to make this isolation as seamless and easy as possible.

Oh, shower heads. By law a shower head's not supposed to flow more than 2.5 gallons per minute, right? So every new or remodeled home you see has three showerheads in the shower. Posted by: mindful webworker - beyond audience comprehension at June 27, 2016 12:36 AM (exNvx) Quite famously, Consumer Reports is involved with a couple of these. In something like 1985, they had a bunch of clothes washers rated as "79/100" -- within 5 years, nothing was better than 65.....but did they note that the EPA had changed clothes washer standards????? And, even more on-point, they did a test of shower heads where one came out clearly superior. They, then, tested it for EPA water-use standards and it failed. Rather than let its paid subscribers know which one to buy, they chose to rat the manufacturer out to the EPA before telling its subscribers -- which kind of "outed" them as to where their loyalties lied. >> those toilets that have you poop on a shelf No, this isn't THAT kind of European toilet. This one has a normal bowl. There was a plumbing site somewhere that once compared the US and European approach to 1.6-liter toilets - the US mfrs have a bigger water spot, so more water in the bowl which leaves less for the flush. The European toilets (and I think the Aussie Caromas) - keep less water in the bowl which leaves more for the flush. You have to figure some creative Brit will make an induction tea kettle that loses less efficiency than having to go old school. God love the EUtopians....they swear that using the same electricity per minute to bring water to a boil in 3 minutes is somehow less efficient than bringing water to boil in 7-10 minutes. Posted by: sven10077 at June 27, 2016 12:41 AM (SzZnW) It's not the energy the tea kettle uses, it's that tea and toast are downright British. It's about stamping out anything that gives a nation an identity. If they make it take longer to make the tea, people will just start saying "fuck it" to tea. Posted by: JEM at June 27, 2016 12:38 AM (o+SC1) We were so pleased at the performance of our first American Standard "Cadet" 1.6 gpf that we actually changed-out the other 1955-era standard flush for an identical unit. Unfortunately, a few years later the tank got leaned-on and broke where the bolts go through.....and you can't easily buy 1.6 gpf tanks any more in California [I eventually got one, but everything was, IIRC, 1.28 gpf]. The Obama-appointed U.S. attorney for Idaho has taken the highly unusual step of intervening in a local criminal case involving an alleged sexual assault by juvenile Muslim migrants and threatened the community and media with federal prosecution if they "spread false information or inflammatory statements about the perpetrators."
WND and other news outlets have reported on the case involving three juvenile boys, two from Sudan and one from Iraq, who allegedly sexually assaulted a 5-year-old special-needs girl in the laundry room of the Fawnbrook Apartments in Twin Falls, Idaho. The incident occurred on June 2, but did not come to light until more than two weeks later when stories began to swirl on social media. The two older boys from Sudan were arrested on June 17 and released from juvenile detention less than a week later on June 23 pending further court proceedings. If you open another one, it re-spawns one off the template. You set the level of trust of each respawn based on what you want to do with it -- the templates, themselves are essentially read-only. So, I have been rewatching a WWI documentary (the Hew Strachan one.)
One thing I do not like is that it uses the same kind of format as does the World at War Documentary on WWII. They take one element of the war and then follow it from the beginning to the end of the war. I find this makes it harder to get a sense of how the different elements fit together. I am wondering why this style is used, when a more chronological format, I think gives you a better sense of the event as a whole. The only thing I can think is for use in a classroom. If you are using the documentary to teach about some specific component of the war, like say the development of tanks or the Armenian Genocide, this way you can give a compartmentalized overview of the subject in question in a smaller way, whereas something like Ken Burns's Civil War makes it harder to use in a classroom because a subject in question may be spread out over several episodes. The micropig article (or rather, the article about the micropig listicle (not to be confused with micropig testicles)) begins:
"In the world of shareable, clickable content, there are two modes: You can be irreverent, young, and hip (and get less shares), or you can appeal to the middle-aged audience that shares the most but is the most easily offended. To get a slice of that sweet pie of conservative readership, you have to avoid any sarcasm, any line pushing, any jokes that could be misconstrued as offensive." He then goes on to lament the reaction he got that can best be described as classic liberal SJWism gone hog-wild. I don't think many conservatives sit around fretting about micropigs, other than the fact that they don't provide enough meat.
