18 After seeing the POTUS temper tantrum, I've realized that I've changed in the way I look at the White House.

Prior to this I felt a lot of things, from outright pride (Reagan) to bemusement (Nixon, Ford, and even Clinton), to eye rolling incredulity (Carter). Maybe with the Bushes I felt more "whatever," though at least W was at heart a decent man.

But I've never felt embarassment, or scorn, or for that matter threatened like I have over the past seven years. I mean, I used to have a healthy respect for at least the office, but now it's been demeaned so much with petty crap that I don't know if I'll recover.

Main thing is that I used to have a rather fond outlook for the institution. Now, well, I don't know. It's like something has been taken away from me, and it pisses me off.

Our entire intelligence and security apparatuses failed spectacularly in Orlando, are we debating this or are we debating attenuating due process rights for Americans et al?

The left sets the agenda and the GOP follows right along.

It's sick and pathetic.

49 Public Health - my field of endeavor - is mostly a tool for social coercion and political action these days.

It's frustrating. There's always been a kind of "I wish I could make them do X" thing, but an explicit acknowledgement that you can only ever go so far.

For example. I wish I could demand and enforce that anyone I've determined has been exposed to a disease must report for testing and treatment.

But that's the government forcing medical procedures. Easy to see the problem there.

Senators will vote Monday on gun control proposals. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) teed up votes on four gun control proposals, two from Democrats and two from Republicans, that are being offered as amendments to the Commerce, Justice and Science appropriations bill. Because of how McConnell filed cloture on the four proposals the senators will vote on the background check proposals, before moving to the fight over suspected terrorists being able to buy a gun. The proposals will need 60 votes.

A bill from Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) would allow the attorney general to delay suspected terrorists from getting a gun for up to 72 hours while seeking a court order to stop the sale. It would also let the attorney general delay the sale of a gun to anyone who has been the subject of a terror investigation within the past five years.

A measure from GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley (Iowa) would reauthorize and provide funding for the National Instant Background Check System (NICS), provide incentives to share mental health records and and bolster federal record sharing.

You're welcome.

"I don't know anybody who resembles ISIS or anybody who wants any part of it or respects it," Moore said. "Most people are just like people everywhere. They're not haters, they're not bigots. They're not going to put any energy into hating a part of their own society, and particularly not women."

So, I recently moved from the Louisville area to Lexington, Ky. This might get a bit longish.

So, there are two new bridges being built in Louisville, one downtown, to share the load for I-65 (which most people were surprised they were putting in) and one on the east end of the town- that people have been trying to get built for around 30 years, at least.

These bridges cross the Ohio, so this also includes Indiana as far as the planning and construction.

There will be 5 bridges crossing the Ohio in the Louisville area: The Sherman Mitten (which services I-64), the Second street (which is a surface street bridge), the Kennedy (the bridge that for as long as I have been alive handled I-65 but will now handle south bound traffic), the Lincoln (new bridge which will handle north bound traffic), and the east end bridge (which I do not know the name for.)

They plan to toll these new bridges when they are completed (the Lincoln is done and they have all I-65 traffic on it until repairs to the Kennedy are complete.) However, they are only going to place tolls on the new bridges, plus the Kennedy.

My parents live in Jeffersonville (across the river from Louisville in Indiana) so Dad has been watching the local news. Evidently they have said the tolls will be between $1 to $10(!) per crossing, based on the number of commutes made per week. They still have not nailed down what the cost structure will be.

This seems fundamentally stupid to me. It seems obvious to me that most people, in order to avoid the tolls, will cross at the untolled bridges, while trucking companies and so forth will use the tolled ones.

I have one and it works really well. Main thing is to start with cold cold COLD water. That helps you carbonate it much more efficiently. And the syrups run the gamut, but damned if their Dr. Pepper clone doesn't taste like the real thing.

Only real issue are the CO2 cartridges. They tend to be a little on the pricey side, so batch for batch you don't really save a lot of money. But it does work, and it works well.

It works just fine, but they have reduced considerably the selection of flavorings. If you get one and continue to use it, look into getting a converter that enables you to hook up CO2 cylinders for paintball guns to supply the carbonation, as that source is considerably less expensive than SodaStream's cylinders.

146 Soda Stream

The thing about Gillette wasn't that they sold razors, but that they sold blades. They advertise the razor, but make money on the blades.

With Soda Stream, it's the co2 cartridge.

It's like cell phones. They advertise the cell phone, but make money on the air time charges.

It was like the old time landline business. The phone company rented the 'instrument' for a monthly charge. Cable TV companies did the same thing for the set top box.

I used to laugh after buying my first sailboat. You buy the boat, the sails are an extra cost option.

The same thing with magazine subscriptions. You read the stories but it was the advertising that made money.

Then came the internet.

The Republican-led House on Thursday narrowly defeated an attempt to bar young immigrants living in the country illegally to enlist in the armed forces, as opponents tied the measure to Donald Trump's presidential campaign.

Lawmakers voted 211-210 to reject an amendment by Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., to the annual defense spending bill. He said he wanted to close what he called a "backdoor amnesty program" created by President Barack Obama without approval from Congress.

The potential recruits were brought to the U.S. illegally as children. They are protected from deportation under the Obama administration's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA. They also receive temporary work permits, renewable every two years as long as they meet certain requirements. Federal officials have said the program is not a pathway to permanent residency or citizenship.

None dare call it Amnesty.

Yesterday my daughter ( who teaches 4th year nursing students) told me that all her students this semester had passed the test to get their Registered Nursing license. She said that in her five years of teaching, she has never had a student fail their Nursing boards. (Of course, she does flunk anyone she thinks won't make it.) Nevertheless, I asked her if the head of the Nursing Department has ever commended her for getting all her students up to the level where they can pass. She said no one has ever even asked her if they've passed or not. I said, "You mean they don't want to know the success rate of their program?" She said, apparently not.

179 After watching the GOP congress deal with the shooting in Orlando it has made several things clearer than before:

1. They will never back any candidate that stands in the way of immigration (aka cheap labor), and that interferes with internationalism (like bad trade deals). It does not matter if that candidate is Trump, or Mr. X. If those in the NeverTrump movement think this is about "tone", or "vulgarity", then you are wrong. The GOP is for immigration, lots of it. That is their position...

2. The GOP will accept large numbers of American deaths in order to keep bringing immigrants and keep the internationalist flame alive. Hence why they scream at Trump for the same reason the left does. Every time one of these attacks happen what does the GOP leadership do? They tell us we must invade Syria to rebuild the country, that the Iraq war was great, but the one thing they refuse to do - limit immigration from the Islamic world. The very place where the danger is coming from. That tells us a lot about their priorities, and it is not defense of average American communities.

218 The forced deposit on drink containers has been a great scam

---
The bar codes now include data on container deposit, and it is now a crime to bring in containers from states that do not have a container deposit. So the scammers started bringing in crushed cans which made the bar code unreadable. Not sure how that turned out.

The empty containers going to a foundry to be melted down once was a perfect cover for scrap metal dealers to hide medical bio hazard waste and radioactive materials.

The foundries now have radiological detectors and inspect (I guess they break open the crushed block) for hidden medical waste.

cash at a far better rate than they could get at home. So much better
it's worth the cost of transport.

The program's funds are only supposed to be paid out on items
purchased in the state and thus had a deposit tied to them. The volume
of NV recyclables coming in is crashing the system.

Well, what
did you expect when you created a shakedown scheme to try to force
people to recycle? Such behavior only attracts others of the same
mindset looking for a loophole to exploit.

.The same thing used to happen in Connecticut. We used to drive to Rhode Island which was about 20 minutes from our house and go to the K-mart there to buy soda's because they were cheaper. They didn't have a deposit tax on their cans, but the cans worked fine in the recycle machines in CT. Not sure if it stills works that way though as we moved three years ago.

Not ever going to happen. Best I could get was 2 shots in around one second and that was as fast as I could pull the trigger without aiming.

Not sure where they are getting these experts from, but only somebody like Miculek or some other world class shooter can come close to that, and I doubt they could fire 8 aimed shots in 1 second.

I have had the experience of having someone admit to me that they were hooked on weed and could not break the habit.

This was something of a shock, as I was myself a one-time stoner long ago, and never felt myself anything like addiction. When I decided I ought to stop, I stopped, easily, and never restarted. But on the other hand, I don't have the genes for addiction. I smoked tobacco, and quit that trivially. I have quit drinking for long spells, again without difficulty.

So some people who do have the genes for addiction apparently can and do develop a tough to shake habituation to weed.

Daily stop at Judicial Watch shows that they were ALL blowing off email regulations, including at DHS. No specific updates on the Huma and Hillary cases, but I would say the general blowing-off of rules helps Hillary. No one else in the Odministration is going to rigorously condemn her slipshod practices, that's for sure.

There's a reason why the M-16 was changed from full auto to 3-round burst.

Posted by: josephistan at June 17, 2016 09:41 AM (7HtZB)

Yup. And at the same time they issued the M16A2, they also adopted the SAW, not to take over for the M60 (a common misconception) but to take over for the M16A1-armed Automatic Rifleman position in the infantry rifle squad.

Doctrine was, everyone was supposed to use semi-auto fire, EXCEPT for the two Automatic Riflemen in the squad. They would fire in bursts, more to establish fire superiority over the whole battlefield rather than to directly kill enemy soldiers.

Lorne Michaels

Seth Meyers was a writer for years for Saturday Night Live, and was given the "Weekend News" anchor gig, which NBC started treating as the minor league/place to groom late night talkshow hosts.

Meyers is VERY progressive and no doubt had a hand in SNL becoming unwatchable, Lefty crap.

It's been remarked that attendance at the Trump rallies is noticeably off.

Trumpkins talked glowingly about how "rapidly adaptive" Trump was as a candidate in the primaries, but I never saw anything I would call that.

Now that the primaries are over, and it's time to shift gears into general election mode, Trump seems to be incessantly replaying the primaries. Um, hello? Where's the rapid adaptation?

The other thing I find very discomfiting about big cities these days is what playgrounds for pandemics they have historically been, and could be again.

Whether that happens naturally, or artificially.

The jihadis, thank goodness, have shown no aptitude up till now for weapon technology beyond the IED level. And short of their being given a nuke by a rogue state, they're probably never going to master that capability. The capital investments for it are beyond them.

I do know some very smart people in the molecular biology world, and I have gotten them to musing about what the advances of the last 20 years could mean for bioweapons, including basement bioweapons not requiring enormous investment, and what they have had to say scared the crap out of me.

I'm not one bit surprised. The only new material he ever presents is an update on how he's done in the previous week -- how well they're doing in the polls and which race car driver has endorsed him.

The warmup speeches by Steve Miller and Mark Davis were much better than the main event.

I've been to a good number of recycle centers in recent years. I've never seen a single one that had a bar code reader on hand, never mind used it. The machines where you feed the items in one at a time don't look at bar codes and it's usually faster to fill their bulk container and get paid by weight.

The information may be there but it certainly isn't being used in any way that would thwart those bringing items from NV.

342 RE Henry rifles.
My experience has been fantastic. Love the butter smooth action, more accurate than me, great looks on the Golden Boys.
However, it's a shame that the finish on the brass receiver is so glossy that any handling leaves visible fingerprints and any use is eventually going to leave a mark, which will give you the sadz.

Also, those octagon barrels are very heavy, and wouldn't be fun to lug through the wood, so Henry now makes its hunting caliber rifles in steel with round barrels, and swivel slings.
So I guess it depends on what you want one for. The occasional range day, get one of the Golden Boys.
For hunting or real use, get a Henry Steel.

oh, and they only have the large loop as standard on the carbines, with 16in barrels, which throws off the look, IMHO, but
they sell the large loop for about 30 bucks and YouTube has videos on disassembly.

I would get another one, if I could only make up my mind.

They should pay me for all the good things I say about them.

The ones in Michigan do... They reject an out of state can, but if you keep putting it back it, they will eventually take it, but you don't get the dime.

According to the regulation you have to take the container back to the store where you bought it. Walmart generic won't be accepted anywhere but Walmart.

The setup here isn't nearly as stringent. The stores have little or no involvement. The recycle centers either give you cash or a voucher that can be taken into the nearby store and used for purchases or cash.

There used to be a recycle center by the nearby supermarket but that store closed (the nearest supermarket is now 2.25 miles away, so I guess I'm in a food desert) and for while the recycle partnered with a smoke shop, one of the few remaining retail businesses in that plaza, for handling the vouchers. It probably didn't boost their sales but they probably sold a lot more lottery tickets as a result.

After a few months the recycle place, which was obviously not a permanent structure, left for parts unknown. There are others in the region but far less convenient.

No. This is NOT correct. Mickulek has a standing offer to shoot his same series, with YOUR factory stock S&W revolver. And has done so on numerous occasions.

Watch his video with his S&W M-29, .44 Mag.

Six shots, on target, 1.01 sec, if I recall correctly.

Not soft target .45 ACP rounds, nor even softer .38 specials from his Performance Center, 8 shot Model 27.

Full house, foahty foah magnum.

That's NOT a race gun, either.

Yeah, he competes with tricked out race guns. But he can shoot demonstration with pretty much anything.

Ever seen him rapid fire the .50 Barrett? Yeah, on target with that, too. Handles it like you n' me would handle maybe an AR-10 in .308.

Let's see kuntzman shoot that one, and live to tell the tale?
