Obama Allows That ISIS-Allied, Allah Akbar-Shouting Mass Shooter Might be a Terrorist, Immediately Blames America and Guns

Of course. Because it's his nature explained the ideological asshole.

The Muslim Shield and Willful Blindness

Gilroy, a former Fort Pierce police officer, said Mateen frequently made homophobic and racial comments. Gilroy said he complained to his employer several times but it did nothing because he was Muslim. Gilroy quit after he said Mateen began stalking him via multiple text messages - 20 or 30 a day. He also sent Gilroy 13 to 15 phone messages a day, he said.

"I quit because everything he said was toxic," Gilroy said Sunday, "and the company wouldn't do anything. This guy was unhinged and unstable. He talked of killing people." Gilroy said this shooting didn't come as a surprise to him.

Charles C.W. Cooke: "Forget Manipulative Editing - Katie Couric's Team Likely Violated Federal Law"

The problem for Soechtig - and for her broader argument - is that these transactions weren't in fact legal. Not even close. Under existing federal law, one may obtain firearms outside of one's state of residence only from a federally licensed firearms dealer. Moreover, at least until Mance v. Lynch is resolved, one may legally obtain a handgun only in one's own state of residence. If, as Soechtig claims, a Colorado resident purchased three handguns and a rifle from a private seller in another state, he broke federal law at least four times.

Meanwhile EPIX seems to have memory-holed Couric's documentary.

77 I just noticed that link about the pension debt. It was unsustainable anyway, but the Fed's money printing, ZIRP for the past near 10 years has killed the pension funds, accelerating it. All this debt is basically lies. It cannot be paid back, and what keeps things going is covering it up. That's all the Fed and the boys are doing, trying to keep the fact that there are trillions in bad debt out there that will never be repaid.

- Trump is going to pwn Hillary tomorrow in an epic speech in which he says all the things we've been begging Our Betters to say since 9/11/2001. Her drink words will be "and" and "the."

- Bernie Sanders will fight all the way to the convention.

- Jeb Who?

And that's just this week.

Actually it has been found that a printed fiat currency levels at about the cost to produce it if the bills don't get made in larger and larger denominations.

Personally I expect two or so rounds of the Argentine plan: a couple of revaluations (haircut you see) followed by a sort of hard currency.

Of course since the banksters and politicians love giving themselves free money they will start printing again "because inflation is essential to the economy" and "Keynes says . . ."

But Obama's anti business regulations have made inflation inoperative. So what inflation there is in food prices, the stock market, car prices, is only barely covering up the on going deflation since the housing bust.

153 Hi everyone, just got back from a weekend out of town. And I find that the air-conditioning isn't working.

Now, for a caveman or an Amish person, I suspect this would not be a problem.

Kinda is here, though. Just to note, cat is alive and well. And I have (self installed) ceiling fans. Probably won't die.

PS: I was told I kinda seem "rude" here because I post a comment here and there and don't acknowledge follow-ups. So let me explain this a bit.

Generally, when I read a post at AOS, I'm usually "Hey that's great" and I go on.

Sometimes, I think, "Hey, I can add to that," or "Hey, I can offer this objection to that," or even "Hey, I thought of something funny...and I can maybe adapt it to that. If I squint really hard." And I'll post a comment then.

Then I post my comment, and again, I move on to other things.

And apparently people are like "Hi!"and stuff and I never see that, and I seem like a jerk or a tosser or a wanker because I don't say "Hi! I appreciate you!" back, when, of course I mentally always do. Just to be clear, anyone who says "Hi!" when I appear is pretty much completing an application to be my girlfriend. Or boyfriend, I'm not picky.

The only time I go back to see how my comment was received is when I have said something exceptionally brilliant to see how my exceptional brilliance was received. Or not. In which case your application gets tossed into the appropriate pile!

So that's my contribution to the flaming helicopter crash from X-Men Origins Wolverine that IS the ONT.

Let it be seen as read: to those who say HI I say HI back.

And I love you all. I'm not picky. It's too hot to be picky, but that's not the only reason! Damn, you are complicated.

There is such a "magic economic formula", it has been shown over-and-over again to work, it is time-tested and never fails. Unfortunately it is not that Statist-beloved claptrap peddled by Marx or Keynes -- it was documented by Adam Smith and further explicated by and Hayek and Mises.

Honest-to-God not kidding here:

EBT cards have two options: Food, which is like traditional Food Stamps, and Cash, which can be used for stuff that isn't covered by the SNAP program. Do you know what EBT/SNAP recipients call their method of payment for groceries - for when they buy food?

They call it "food."

193 The federal debt is on exponential growth autopilot. It doubles every 7-8 years, like clockwork. That's about two presidential terms, so if you've got a two termer, he doubles it during his tenure. In the details, it comes in spurts and jumps, but that's the average. The human mind is not good with exponential growth.

But this is on autopilot. Entitlements and base-line budgeting programmed that autopilot.

The discrete version of exponential is geometric growth, and you can see that more easily. Each step, each increase, is greater than the sum of all before.

It gets out of hand before you know it, and you're fucked before you realize you're fucked. You're already past the point of no return before, already crossed the event horizon, before you know anything is wrong.

Stanley Cup is the oldest trophy in sports (by far, and yes you have to be human, and not on a boat), in the world, and the ritual at the final game is one of the best in sports. Probably *is* the best. Seen plenty of these things finished on the road (on TV), other guys' building, do not recall this sort of boorishness.

Given the state of the world and country, meh, but still, pathetic.

Only bigger screw up was by me. I lost track and didn't see a single game of the finals - oops. However, the pick-up scrimmage the last two weeks has been terrific, lots of ex-college players and 2 or 3 Juniors kids just about to head off to training camp in Canada. So there's that.

Governments have always jiggered the credit markets. They set the rules. It's like the referees actually being players in the game. They set the rules for the banks and credit markets so that sovereign debt is always preferred and considered "risk free".

Rather than a market determine government's borrowing cost and ability, it is rigged so they get first access to the credit.

238 218 205 If you look at it, what happened with the response to the Crisis was the bad debt was transferred to the balance sheet of Uncle and the Fed (they can be considered the same entity, of course).

This did happen directly (TARP), but mostly it was indirect. The efforts to "save the system" were simply by making "good" on the bad debt by putting Uncle on he hook for it. The US taxpayer and the "full faith and credit of the US".

Bad private debt became bad sovereign debt. That kept the music going. But it cannot go on forever.

Posted by: publius (not Breitbart publius) at June 13, 2016 12:22 AM (DW+jj)

.....because, as noted previously, sovereign debt is EXACTLY a promise to tax the-everlovin'-shit out of someone next Thursday.

An amusing wrinkle regarding Trump (who, if anything, understands bankruptcy) is that he might take a run at taxing-the-everlovin'-shit out of anyone who benefits from a US security umbrella, or Mexican remittances, or anyone who bootlegs or jacks American IP, or Chinese manufacturers....before writing it off or reducing American citizens to penury.

Posted by: cthulhu at June 13, 2016 12:28 AM (EzgxV)

I should also point out that the US should have its pick of all the best and brightest of the world for legal immigration -- because if they stay where they are, they'll have to pay for the security umbrella, the remittances, the jacked IP, etc. We could even charge 'em a "your country fucked-up, pay to make it right" fee to immigrate. But illegal immigration should be unnoticeably small.

I was reading a piece a while back by some economist type. He worked for some damn outfit, maybe an airline, I can't remember. But they were using government economic stats to make predictions. He said that by the early 90s or mid 90s, those predictions starting failing, being off by more than usual.

His opinion was that was when the govt. started really lying with the economic numbers, and it wasn't their models. It was bad data being fed into those models.

....and FireHose is playing Humpty-Dumpty:

"'And only one for birthday presents, you know. There's glory for you!'

'I don't know what you mean by "glory",' Alice said.

Humpty Dumpty smiled contemptuously. 'Of course you don't -- till I tell you. I meant "there's a nice knock-down argument for you!"'

'But "glory" doesn't mean "a nice knock-down argument",' Alice objected.

'When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, 'it means just what I choose it to mean -- neither more nor less.'

'The question is,' said Alice, 'whether you can make words mean so many different things.'

'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master -- that's all.'

Alice was too much puzzled to say anything; so after a minute Humpty Dumpty began again. 'They've a temper, some of them -- particularly verbs: they're the proudest -- adjectives you can do anything with, but not verbs -- however, I can manage the whole lot of them! Impenetrability! That's what I say!'

'Would you tell me please,' said Alice, 'what that means?'

'Now you talk like a reasonable child,' said Humpty Dumpty, looking very much pleased. 'I meant by "impenetrability" that we've had enough of that subject, and it would be just as well if you'd mention what you mean to do next, as I suppose you don't mean to stop here all the rest of your life.'

'That's a great deal to make one word mean,' Alice said in a thoughtful tone.

'When I make a word do a lot of work like that,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'I always pay it extra.' "

333 Well... Hello.

Family reunion weekend, day 3 of 4. Hardly had time to read Ace posts, nor the news. Anything notable happen? (Sorry, dark joking--some news is unavoidable.) Missed my two favorite regular threads, pets and books.

Driving home from the lake this afternoon, just as we got on the Interstate, we were caught in a cloudburst worthy of the name. All traffic which hadn't pulled over was slowed to a crawl, and we all had our flashers on. I was tempted to pull over, and if had just become a hair harder downpour, I would've.

After a few minutes, we drove out of it, though. It was like that scene in Back to the Future where they're controlling the weather - you know, in the far, fantastic future of 2016 - and the rain just stops suddenly altogether.

Been a long time since I've been driving in that bad a storm. Glad it was *only* rain, not windstorm or twisters.

341 It's currently 69 on the interior thermostat.

While I am well aware of the adage that "a man with a watch always knows what time it is; a man with two watches is never sure....", I base these observations on the "official" internal thermostat. [....and, incidentally, if you want commentary on the differences between the two -- just ask me what time it is....]

As I have gotten older, I have become more predictable in my ways. Currently, I will suffer miserably, hanging on and getting more and more irrational, until the temp is 65 or below. If it hits 63, I can retire and fall instantly asleep. If I awake when the house is cool, I am groggy and disorganized; if the house temperature jogs up by 2 degrees an hour before the alarm, I can almost wake up without the alarm; if it jogs up 5 degrees, there's a 50-50 chance I'll wake before the alarm.

Which makes it almost certain that when Kthublai Khan a stately pleasure dome decrees, I'm going to be running separate AC controls for the sleeping quarters.

That may sound silly and mocking, until you compare Raspi @$35 under your control with the Google-owned Nest thermostat that Amazon has for $248.75. With the Nest, you can follow any scheme Google allows you to until they decide to override it; with the Raspi, you can follow any scheme you program into the thing. With the Nest, you can have any security and privacy that Google allows you; with the Raspi, you can clamp things down to the shit that banks use [or better].

348 There. My wire-hacking is done. Cut up a yuuuge main wire harness from an old Mercury Villager minivan. Clipped off all the many harness plugs, stripped off the tape jacket, and rolled up each piece of wire separately and hacked it. Meaning, I wrapped it around my fingers, forming an elliptical coil, and then wrapped the free end around the coiled wire a few times. Makes easy-to-handle hanks that tend to stay neatly coiled until needed.

I plan to store this, and much more other wire by making a bunch of sticks, like small laths, with a crosspiece glued on one end, and the other end drilled with a hang-up hole. So I can fill one stick with #10 red wire, and the next with #10 black, and so on. Wires with tracers will be filed according to the base color of the wire, but separately from solid-color wires.

The sticks can all be hung on a pegboard, or from screw hooks in the ceiling. Frees up shelf space, and makes it easier to find the exact right hank of wire for a given use.

I've got a unit meant for fabric steaming. I should have the site dry, clean, demo'd, and ready for work tomorrow. A large part of this is that I'm not going to work on any floor while it still has wall-to-wall carpet tetanus devices tack strips, especially half-rusted ones.

I've got about six places where adjacent strips buckled upward. My intent is to sit on a 4x4 inch square with about 100 lbs of weight, and steam the seam from the large end. If it settles and zips together, move the square and steam 2".

I'm thinking it may be best to sand everything before I start.

Alternatively, if a few 'rons advised me that this was an infinite loop, I might be persuaded to demo another layer and rebuild from there.

After a long pause, work is resuming on the guest house bath room. The master bathroom mainline is clear - we think - but the drain pan is cracked so that (yet another tile & concrete & chickenwire DIY) has to come out.

Embarrassed to say that it took us 4 years to hang pictures in the master bedroom. {Plaster over brick, so we started hammering in the hooks, but had the hammer drill on standby.) But Memorial Day weekend we put 4 hooks up over the headboard using much the same pattern as the pictures we hung in the old new house.

Hope your projects are going less scattered than mine ...

I'm removing tack strips in order to better visualize the workspace and be more willing to involve myself with it. I can always put in more tack spaces, but I probably only get one bout of tetanus.

The spots where the floor is buckled average about 45 degrees per strip -- as in, the floor strips are 1-1/2 inches and the buckled area is raised over an inch. They raised themselves because of wood swelling with no 2D room to maneuver. That's just about dried out. Next I'm thinking of steaming under flat pressure to coax them back into position.

After cleaning the site, the implements that I will have will be: a section of train rail about 3' long that weighs a lot; a 4" x4" piece of brass that is heavy, but is best used as a focus for the rail; and a source of steam.

My intent was to position the rail/pillow at the start of the buckle, steam the crap out of it, then move up an inch like a zipper as the wood got flexy.

===I don't think you're going to get it hot enough and keep it hot enough long enough to be worth the effort. If I were in your spot, I'd consider a few things:
1) if I just want laminate over the top -- I'd get myself a powered hand planer and take out the high spots. This will undoubtedly leave holes or a hollow spot underneath. I'd remove any hollow spots (which should be really easy after the planing) and fill all the holes with something that won't shrink. Then sand flat and put the laminate down.
2) if I wanted the look of the old oak floor, I'd think about accent strips or medallions. I'd get it flat enough to get a good router guide screwed down and cut out the appropriate shape and then place the medallions or strips.

Yeah, I'm almost there. It struck me that (a) the tops of the wood [that I could get to] had poly or lacquer or something, so wouldn't readily take up the steam; and (b) if I got the edges to get enough steam to be bendy, they'd probably experience the same expansion that caused them to buckle in the first place.

I'd like to preserve the 1955 wood, but I'm not totally stupid.

You're saying nice things, but I'm hearing "demo another layer [of old oak floor]."

I should note that the leak started in a bathroom where my ex-across-the-back-fence neighbor had laid tile over an oak floor. It progressed into an area where wall-to-wall carpeting had been laid over an oak floor at least twice. It bled sideways into a walk-in closet that we had remodeled from an old closet that had partially been part of a bedroom and a piece of adjacent hall.

In other words, the underlying flooring is a complex patchwork that was never meant to work together, previously covered by a wall-to-wall. I should probably simplify.

Usual construction of this vintage is that there are floor joists (vertical orientation) on the foundation, above which are floor members (2x8s?) laid flat, running at a slight angle. On top of that is an optional subfloor to make things flat, then flooring.

If I just laid 3/4" ply on the floor joists, I'd be about 2" down from everything else in the house.

The bathroom appears to be an oak floor that someone spread wet grout on, then laid tile. I don't see any cement backer-board from the edge. Any oak in there is unsalvageable.

The hallway leading up to the bath has a couple of wood-expansion eruptions in the floor. I had hoped to steam them flat, but I'm thinking of demoing them out. Off the hallway is a walk-in-closet that also has a wood-expansion eruption. I could demo that in a heartbeat. Everything outside the bath was wall-to-wall -- it'd be just as happy over plywood as over oak.

It'd be lovely if I could wave a wand and put everything back the way it used to be, but even then I couldn't have the entire closet with hardwood (1/2 came from a hallway, 1/2 from a closet). I couldn't do the hallway with hardwood (it ends buried under tile in the bathroom), and I can't do the entire bedroom with hardwood (there's a 6' extension with plywood floors).

So I might as well demo the buckling hardwood and put down ply so I can re-install the wall-to-wall. That's beige. That I hate so much.

If only a sufficient number of people were slightly smarter, all of Soros' and Steyer's billions, all the media's might would be utterly impotent, of zero effect. People would see through this technique as the insubstantial wraith that it is.

430 423 Laid off workers are beginning to speak out about
being laid off due to H1B Visa abuse/fraud. Almost all companies require
them to sign a "silence agreement" to get separation pay. The key here
is that H1B Visas are only supposed to be used when a company certifies
that it can not a fill a position with an American worker. Obviously
they are lying when they lay off an America worker to hire cheaper labor
on an H1B Visa. So why isn't anyone being prosecuted for this fraud?
Answer, neither Party wants them to. This was one of my major gripes
with Cruz. He supported this H1B Visa fraud and actually wanted to
expand it.

The houses we built that put me through college were on slab. There are advantages and disadvantages of each.

Interestingly, some of the major advantages of slab involve their resistance to plumbing problems, while some disadvantages of slab involve the difficulties of working on plumbing issues in a slab environment. Tricky design might have a slab foundation adjacent to a pier foundation where baths and lavs were on the slab but plumbed from the pier side.

From what I have seen around here they create plumping problems when builders did not know how to do them correctly. Had a guy at work come home to a foot of water in the house because pipe had broken off where it penetrated the slab floor. The builder had not routed it through the concrete correctly and the continued chaffing of the PVC pipe on the concrete caused it to fracture.

Ahem. Not saying that I know anything about this....but I'm given to understand that sometimes when the pipes come up in the wrong place, they're "softened" with a torch and adjusted into the right place -- instead of cutting the concrete, digging out the dirt, redoing the join, bringing it up in the right place, backfilling, tamping, and pouring more concrete.

Well think about this he killed 50 and wounded 50. That has to mean between 150 and 200 rounds were expended. The standard AR-15 magazine is 20 rounds so if he was using a standard magazine he would have had to change magazines between 3 to 10 times.

and Gilroy was in an incident that went viral back in 2007 when he was with the Fort Pierce PD. Even though
Gilroy probably did as much as a solo cop could do in the
circumstances, any excessive force incident caught on camera that garnered tens of thousands of views is likely to be a
definite turn off for any future employers. He also may have been told by the small FPPD that he could stay around to make his 20, but he'd have to leave after that.

A job beneath his skill level
plus an obnoxious co-worker may have been more than he wanted to deal
