Again with this guy: Speaker Paul Ryan changes rules for spending bills the abrupt shift is striking fear in some more conservative members, who believe leadership could block Republican-led amendments considered risky votes in an election year. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) said, "Ostensibly, it would protect Republicans from Democrats. What they could try to do is protect all Republicans from taking difficult votes, which may be conservative issues." https://tinyurl.com/j5djbkc Posted by: Laurie David's Cervix at June 09, 2016 07:40 AM (kdS6q) 2

On the equality conference in England excluding white guys...
I've been paying some attention to the Brexit debate and I can tell you from that that it strike me how sensitive in the extreme politicians and others are (mainly politicians and mainly politicians other than what we would call establishment parties) to being labeled racist. The digressions that they make in order to couch their terms in ways to make it clear that they intend no racism, is almost comical (but not in a funny way). And that is only exceeded by the lengths their opposition - including, and in some cases especially the media, goes in making certain that everyone understands that they ARE racist despite all of their protestation to the contrary. We thought our media was bad over here. Over there, the media is just overt in their bias. In know they are overt here too, but there its on a sophisticated, continental level. EZ Dog Journal from this date in 1944:
June 9, 1944 We are practically out of the war. VI Corps is coming out of the line and IV Corps is taking its place. All our battalions are far behind except 141 and 976. They are both attached so we exercise very little control. I went swimming with Doc and Hobbs today. The water was just right. Not too warm or too cold. Agreed. I read elsewhere that the AF is looking to make the B-52 a viable platform into the 2040s; at which time it will be a 90 year old air frame. I always wondered why not just build more B-1's and B-2's. The technology is proven. And with upgrades, they will remain viable as weapons platforms. So over the past couple of months I've noticed some odd things in my office when I come to work in the morning. Things where I know I hadn't left them, stuff moved, etc. I keep a roll of quarters in my drawer for the vending machines and that was missing. ___________________________ Yes, it takes some skill to be nominated for president after having been a Senator with a record of achieving nothing, a massively incompetent Secretary of State whose most notable achievement was getting one of her ambassadors murdered by terrorists (and then lying about how it happened), and who has spent the bulk of her primary campaign dodging felony charges for having set up a secret, unauthorized e-mail system so she could avoid complying with FOIA requests and continue running her large-scale money-laundering and influence-peddling scam without fear of public exposure. It doesn't just take a village (of MSM asswipes lying for you and covering your slimy trail of deception and corruption), it also takes some mad skillz to pull off such a large con! I've been struggling with my emotions about the murders in Israel since I first heard about it.
It seems that whenever 'terrorism' is mentioned by the media with respect to the situation in Israel is concerned, the media goes to (for me) astonishing lengths to eliminate the humanity of the victims. I probably need to explain that: I was watching one international news outlet after I heard about the attack yesterday and they were interviewing a doctor from the hospital where people were being treated. The first question the interviewer had for the doctor was whether any of the wounded being treated were the terrorists (though they didn't use the term terrorist). No mention at all about the conditions of the actual victims. This was under a headline that mentioned that the shooters had been neutralized. Neutralized was in quotes. It depressed the shit out of me. Posted by: Mr Macca Bean at June 09, 2016 08:25 AM (4ng05) 123

I got stuck at a car dealership yesterday with a ten foot wide big screen television. 'The View' came on. The panel, who all aappeared to be of the female gender, were waxing enthusiastically over the historic historicalness of Hillary Clinton. Appears they're not in touch with the voter apathy apparent in the raw numbers. . . . .Add in the fact that the Dems had an actual contest that drove millions of newer voters out to vote for Bernie. There is absolutely no way that hillary is going to come anywhere near the 2012 numbers or even remotely close to what happened in 2008. And Trump set record shattering vote numbers during the Primary even counting the fact that there were 17 candidates early on. Good Morning Horde!
Just a quick disclaimer. I'm not on the Trump Train, I still can't stand the guy, and whether I vote for him or don't vote in November is still up for debate. Having got that out of the way, I'm going to point out that contrary to Ace's conviction that Trump is a sure loser, he continues to poll pretty well in some important places. Yesterday I mentioned the PPP poll of Florida. Let me also point out that PPP polled Pennsylvania as well using a registered voter screen (these are always better for Democrats). The poll sampling completed on June 5th, which was also during the Trump judge mess. The result is a tie, Clinton 44% and Trump 44%. The simple fact of this election is that both candidates have high negatives and there are a lot of undecideds available to be wooed. I'm not sure what Clinton has to attract voters, since all of the voters either have or don't have a vagina already. But Trump does have a populist economic message that can still be used, and Obama in the White House. Trump is NOT a sure loser in November, at worst he is in the same place Romney was, with a decent shot of winning if he doesn't screw it up. And Trump is polling better than Romney did in some important states (that Romney lost). Posted by: Dave in Fla at June 09, 2016 08:33 AM (0WoNT) 149

While the MSM is hyperventilating over the abuses of Trump University, they're ignoring the story of how Walden University (one of those on-line diploma mills) paid Bill Clinton $16 MILLION over four years to serve as its "honorary" chancellor (i.e., $16 MILLION over four years, just to use his name). During those same years, Hillary was SOS and the U.S. State Dept. just happened to pay $55 MILLION to Walden University, an online diploma mill that has the been the subject of several lawsuits by students who claim that they were defrauded and continually forced to pay additional fees in order to get their phony diplomas. http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2016/06/the-clinton-university-scandal.php Posted by: TrivialPursuer at June 09, 2016 08:35 AM (BNs9e) 156

Stanford Rape victim goes to a party with her younger sister. She becomes extremely intoxicated, drinking and dancing. She goes outside with this guy. They make out. They fall next to the dumpster. They keep making out. Mat some point she passes out, he starts having sex with her.
Two other male students go by, they see she is obviously passed out. They physically pull him off her, he tried to run away. They tackled him and police are called. He is tried for rape. She remembers nothing of the rape as she blacked out much of the evening due to her excessive alcohol use. Nonetheless she is devastated. She submits a compelling victim statement during sentencing. His father submits a statement on behalf of his son which says "he is paying a steep price for 20 minutes of action". Awful. Due to the circumstances of the case and the fact he has no criminal record the judge only sentences him to six months for the rape. Facebook goes nuts. Turns out his phone text messages have been passed around that shows he had a fake ID and liked to drink and take "party" drugs. Judge is receiving death threats. He is in jail and is in isolation for fear he will be murdered. He is appealing the conviction. Personally I suspect on those facts he may win.. If you want a penalty to have a deterrent effect, it has to hurt.
Posted by: iforgot at June 09, 2016 08:35 AM (pC96u) ---------------------------------------------------------- Not disagreeing, just saying this penalty is past that point (in my view). She was open about her use, not realizing the drug had recently been added to the banned list. She takes 30 supplements and drugs, like any good professional athlete probably. She has taken this drug for years and her doctor and manager keep a list that they periodically check with the governing body. So all of professional tennis knew her regimen. I could see barring her from a grand slam or maybe two as an appropriately harsh penalty for a first "offense", though this hardly qualifies as an offense (if the news reports are right about how open she has been over the years about this). It's not like Arod, for example, who went to extreme lengths for years to hide his HGH and steroid use. Maybe a whole season on the second offense. Two years? I think that's not good for her or tennis. Posted by: MTF at June 09, 2016 08:47 AM (/m8T6) 184

Posted by: V the K at June 09, 2016 08:29 AM (O7MnT) ____________________ Apparently the kid had no prior record of any kind, and he and the woman were both highly intoxicated. From what I've read (and I read the woman's entire statement, which was book-length and histrionic), the woman was in her mid or late 20's and went to a college frat party with her younger sister. The woman drank very heavily at the party, and was apparently (according to the guy) dancing with him and talking suggestively to him. They went outside at some point, and were behind a dumpster. He (or she) removed some of her clothes, and he fingered her and was rubbing himself up against her (she had passed out by this point). A couple of male students, Swedes, happened to come by and saw the guy dry-humping what appeared to be (and was) an unconscious woman, so they chased him down and held him for police. The woman says she has no memory of anything that happened after she started drinking at the party. IMO, the judge realized that both of these people had been engaged in some very stupid and very drunken behavior, and since the woman had no memory of what happened, the judge could not be sure that whatever took place (before the woman passed out) was not consensual, or at least, that the drunken frat boy might have believed that she was consenting. I never stuck Little Sven in anyone who didn't want it no matter how drunk I or they were.... This is what I believe. It's just ignorant opinion and tiresome - I know that.
But I don't believe that the shit happening in this country and the shit happening in Europe - that they are happening at the same time, is coincidental at all. No more than they were coincidental prior to WWII in Europe and Asia. It doesn't really matter so much I think, what you attribute it to: "conspiracy theories", the supernatural - whatever. These forces, with global implications, reverberate around the world - like harmonics it seems. That's why I think Brexit is important and that's why I think it is important for our politics to be shaken out of its entrenched position of near absolute power over us. (Though I don't think that it is our political establishment actually wielding the power). I think it is critical to liberty that Brexit to succeed and I think that we will witness in the next two weeks incredible interventions - corrupt interventions - to undermine attempts to see that it does. That's not all, but enough for now. Posted by: Mr Macca Bean at June 09, 2016 08:51 AM (4ng05) 199

One of the unexpected results of President Barack Obamas new opening to Iran is that U.S. taxpayers are now funding both sides of the Middle Easts arms race. The U.S. is deliberately subsidizing defense spending for allies like Egypt and Israel. Now the U.S. is inadvertently paying for some of Irans military expenditures as well. It all starts with $1.7 billion the U.S. Treasury wired to Irans Central Bank in January, during a delicate prisoner swap and the implementation of last summer's nuclear deal to resolve a long-standing dispute about Irans arms purchases before the revolution of 1979. It was rape-rape. There is zero evidence beyond the self- interested narrative of the loadie swimmer kid that she went with him willingly or had any interest in him, no inside venue or witnesses to corroborate that or any making out. She tried to text and call her own boyfriend outside the venue.
I don't think ladies should get tanked up at college parties. This kid was being sexually aggressive with any girl he could get next to inside the party, and what he wanted was to copulate and he didn't much care with whom. He was looking for targets. He testified the only reason she was on the ground is because she fell down... If a girl falls down you help her up, you don't scramble on top of her. That may or may not have been a lie to cover up his dragging her and knocking her down but in the light most favorable to him, isn't really assisting any narrative of "consent" Posted by: SarahW at June 09, 2016 09:08 AM (3fTXW) 256

I already know this is going to be controversial, but it just strikes me as odd (inequitable) that a drunken young male is considered to be in full position of his faculties, but a drunken female is automatically considered to be incapable of making a conscious decision with regard to sex and any activity that would indicate that sex is on the horizon - because she is drunk. Leaving out all of the other innuendo associated with this: If I were a young drunk male at a party and I happened to consider myself lucky to find some young drunk female willing, even enthusiastic to engage in some pre-sexual activities like kissing, heavy petting and climbing into a dumpster to continue said activity in a less conspicuous, though somewhat less hygienic setting, I might consider that me being lucky was just elevated to the "next level". Posted by: Dave in Fla at June 09, 2016 09:25 AM (0WoNT) 301

I, for one, don't care if he uses a teleprompter, cue cards, or someone whispering in his ear via an earbud. I want him to crush Hillary. This is her last shot, the Dims via their chicanery have dragged her puffy carcass across the nomination finish line. So barring an indictment, she gets her shot. I say let's end her political ambitions once and for all--NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES. On the Maria Sharapova thing.
I don't think a lot of non-athletes realize how common PEDs are. You HAVE to take them to be a world class athlete. Hell, you HAVE to take them to compete at an elite level in college. I mean, people get popped for PEDs in powerlifting all the time and we have really REALLY crappy testing standards. And there is ZERO money to be made in that sport. ZERO. Yet people still do it because they want to win. Now, imagine the additional pressure when real life changing money and fame is on the line. So yeah, not surprised at all. Posted by: TeamRawDog at June 09, 2016 09:19 AM (10hEu) I'm not a purist about PEDs, but it just seems natural to me that if you are going to measure yourself against someone else, the measurement should be equitable. Otherwise, obviously, there is no measurement at all. We should have enhanced sports for the people who want to take the risk to their bodies, and unenhanced sports. But people would still cheat and it would all be every bit as meaningless a measure as it is now. Posted by: Mr Macca Bean at June 09, 2016 09:28 AM (4ng05) 306

I want the Red Sox to use the 12th pick on either of them, but the odds are against it. Last projection I saw had Dunn gong to Seattle and Craig to Pittsburgh.

-------------- For argument's sake, I'll go a step further. What we really need is a little bit of coordination. When Trump attacks, like he going to do supposedly on Monday, there needs to be a list of talking points and background material sent to all the surrogates, party officials, campaign workers and anyone else that the media might put on camera. I'm just going to say that fucking a sleeping girl means you are scum. Posted by: Bigbys Cellphone at June 09, 2016 08:51 AM (Yjjjf) ________________________ Yeah, I don't have any sympathy for the guy, who seems like an a-hole, but he didn't actually rape her, if you define rape as penetration with the penis. He stuck his fingers in her vagina, but we don't know if she was awake or not when that happened. The medical report said there was some minor swelling and abrasion in her vaginal area, and some debris from the ground where she was lying, which might indicate that she was moving around on the ground when this happened. Since she has no memory of the events, we just can't say for sure that she wasn't a willing (or seemingly willing) participant in whatever happened, up to the point where she passed out. The woman doesn't know how she got outside. Nobody at the party saw the guy carrying her outside, and we can probably safely assume she didn't levitate, so she must have walked outside with the guy. She assumes the guy removed some of her clothes, but she doesn't remember. She assumes the guy was kissing and fingering her without her consent, but she doesn't remember. She has a boyfriend, so she (of course) doesn't want to believe that she would have gotten plastered and started making out with a much younger, drunken frat boy behind the dumpster at a college party, but since she doesn't remember what happened, we can't know for sure that that isn't what happened. Her story is that she is a respectable, decent person who was dressed "like a librarian" (i.e., wearing a sweater) at the party, so of course she's completely innocent. But she went to a frat party, drank heavily, and was dancing (and if you believe the guy, acting like she was hot for him while they were dancing), and then voluntarily went outside and behind the dumpsters with him. We don't know what, exactly, happened next (other than the fact that, at some point, she passed out and he continued dry-humping her). And that's the problem. He tells one story of what happened to get them to that point, and she tells another. But her story is based on her assumptions about how she would have behaved, not any actual memory of how she did behave. And her assumptions are necessarily biased by her desire to see herself as a woman who is faithful to her boyfriend, among other things. So I can see where the judge would have a problem with sentencing the guy harshly, given all the unknowns in this scenario. Still, no matter how drunk the guy was, once he saw that the woman was passed out, he should have stopped, and he didn't. Also, when the two Swedes spotted him, he tried to run away, suggesting some consciousness of his own guilt. So clearly he deserves some punishment. The question of how much is sufficient is what's got everyone debating. Posted by: TrivialPursuer at June 09, 2016 09:33 AM (BNs9e) 323

There are plenty of fake rape accusations out there. Let's not add this guy to that list. This wasn't a case of she had second thoughts the next morning and is accusing him of rape. This is a case where she was passed out and he took advantage of her. Defending him, makes it that much harder to defend the genuine men accused of bullshit rape.

I'm not a purist about PEDs, but it just seems natural to me that if you are going to measure yourself against someone else, the measurement should be equitable. Otherwise, obviously, there is no measurement at all. We should have enhanced sports for the people who want to take the risk to their bodies, and unenhanced sports. But people would still cheat and it would all be every bit as meaningless a measure as it is now. Posted by: Mr Macca Bean at June 09, 2016 09:28 AM (4ng05) _____________ I understand and we should have a level playing field and this issue is that the nature of competition leads to everyone wanting to level the playing field in a manner that gives them an advantage. In Powerlifting it happens exactly like you described. There are drug free federations and then there are "we don't test for drugs *wink*wink" federations too. And people still get popped for using in the drug tested federations. All the time. Because people want to win and if they go to the tested federations and use PEDs its easier to win. I was just curious what all the fuss was about. If you read the woman's statement (which I don't recommend, as it's way too long, and overly histrionic), it seems that what she is most angry about (with some justification, IMO) is that the guy refused to accept a plea deal and insisted on going to trial. That exposed her to all the aggravation and embarrassment that a sexual assault victim typically endures, and dragged out the whole nightmare (from her perspective). He knew he'd done something wrong, so he should have manned up and done the right thing. On that point, I agree with her. Posted by: TrivialPursuer at June 09, 2016 09:50 AM (BNs9e) 377

I'll skip it, but Trump should be taping it for a how-to lesson in concern trolling. The cool, smiling, wonderful, articulate, well-dressed Obama will sit there on the couch saying how concerned he is about all his friends the Republicans, while subtly jabbing them in every possible way. Expect this kind of performance at least weekly until November. Today show, Tonight show, SNL, Good Morning America, MTV, ESPN, you name it. He will be all over the airwaves. She takes a lot of time complaining about the thorough questioning she endured. Of course. They had to. Especially with these facts. And she is clearly shattered. Posted by: Lizzy at June 09, 2016 09:36 AM (NOIQH) Yeah, that's how this thing strikes me. Two drunk out of their minds college kids wind up dry humping and finger-fucking- this is not a surprise to anyone with a picogram of brains. If she was roofied that's one thing, but the flow of events seem to indicate both she and he willingly got themselves stupid drunk and both willingly went outside. Exactly. Can't imagine how shattered she must feel, so I'm not unsympathetic. Just so tired of the new paradigm where men are rapists by default, and women are above reproach no matter how much they may have contributed to the situation in which the sex occurred. Feminists now reject that we could use this as a "teachable moment" (hate that phrase) about how to drink responsibly and never lose awareness of your surroundings re: possible threats. I got really drunk and in a bad spot w/an aggressive guy once in college. Fortunately had a friend intervene (I was able to get her attention), but that *never* happened again because I knew that I had created the opportunity for something bad to happen. Again, the guy is scum if he did all this while she was passed out/without her consent. Posted by: Lizzy at June 09, 2016 10:11 AM (NOIQH) 411

I have an Obama phone, for my disabled son who can't talk on the phone.
Medicaid is adamant that every member should have a phone so they have no excuse not to call a doctor when they're sick, call for transportation, etc. I ignored the monthly junk mail for years, because - as I said - son can't use a phone. He has some language, but no capacity for symbolic thought and no interest in verbal communication. We can't even put him on like a toddler to say "Hi, Grandma" because he'll just wander away. I finally realized that they were spending more on the junk mail than they would if I just took the phone. I make one call a month to keep it active and they send scads of helpful text propaganda. I feel like an Obamaphone fraud but they would probably count me as a success. Posted by: Oscar is my Clarinet's Name at June 09, 2016 10:24 AM (YcsJS) Processing 0.04, elapsed 0.0508 seconds. |
