General Mills sucks. Eff 'em. Unrelated, about eight days ago I broke a fingernail really low, pretty deep on the nail bed. It would have hurt like hell to rip/clip it all the way off, and it was jagged, so it was definitely going to catch on something and remove itself in a very painful way if I didn't take care of it. So someone told me to layer the nail with Krazy glue. I've had to reapply it a few times, but it worked. It's held while the nail has grown out. So there's this soldier who is deployed overseas, and his wife is pregnant, due to give birth while he's away. Since he won't be around, he tasks his brother with making sure that his wife is comfortable and provided for.
His wife is uncomfortable with that since her brother in law is a notorious practical joker, but her husband assures her that in matters of utmost seriousness, he will rise to the occasion. So as expected the wife goes into labor and gives birth. She calls her husband. "Honey, I have a surprise. We actually had twins!" "Really?!? Um..." "A girl and a boy. Your brother, well, he helped a lot and took care of all the paperwork for me since it was a difficult delivery. And I just got back our copies and, well..." As I look across this land, seeing the dark and terrible shadow of the becankled one blight the crops, mutate the beasts of the field, and bring an unbearable sadness to the heart and a bereaved sob to the lip I can but think that finally, America will have the first ex-wife president it deserves. I think what happens is some type of sympathetic finger movement when they go to press the camera button, the other hand also reflexively squeezes the trigger. It's going to be interesting to see how long the press and the GOP elite can keep the manufactured outrage going about Trump.
Trump had a great speech last night and is ignoring the pearl-clutching whiners, as he should. When you try to bring the king down, you have to succeed or you're going to be a total outcast. They gave us Kagan and Sotomeyer, allowed Obama and his pen and phone free reign, and have buckled under to every racist claim put before them-but claim they are on our side! If they can criticize Trump but not the protesters who are hurting Trump campaign goers, I say with friends like Ryan, who needs friends. . . . .To shout racist is all they have left, and it is definitely not working on Trump. I think what happens is some type of sympathetic finger movement when they go to press the camera button, the other hand also reflexively squeezes the trigger. It may also be that the reflection in the camera is reversed, so the hand you think is on the camera is actually on the trigger. Any thoughts ? Glock. Safety on the trigger. Good morning, all!
From this date in 1944- Italy The EZ Dog Journal June 8, 1944 We moved again - this time to Marinella, in a villa right on the coast. It is a beautiful spot - much too pretty to waste war on. And since things are going so fast we are practically out of the war, so we just loaf and take things easy. Official count through VI Corps PW cage now reads 9,588 since the offensive started May 23. 5th Army must have a tremendous number. When the rail yards at Civitavechhia were bombed Gerry lost two of his "big" guns. On the beachhead we call them the "Anzio Express". 280mm, with a tube over 65 ft long, they shoot a 550# projectile some-where in the vicinity of 30 miles. They are each mounted on two flat-cars and have their own Diesel-electric locomotive and power plant. These two guns were the infamous "Anzio Annie" (collectively known-as). They were later dubbed "Robert" and "Leopold" by the Army. In the mad scramble of the breakout the Germans were trying to evacuate the guns by boat but had to abandon them. Here's a nice summary of the whole thing: http://www.unmuseum.org/anzio_annie.htm Those who read "To Save Us All From Ruin" know that Anzio Annie was the Macguffin! At the risk of being termed as a pejorative, I'll relate my latest Amazon adventure, I ordered a book obliquely referenced on the prestigious AoS book thread. Yesterday evening there was a package waiting outside my door. I eagerly opened it to begin reading a book by an author I knew and liked.
Then I read the title: "What is Life: Reclaiming The Black Blues Self" by Kalamu ya Salaam. I thought that perchance my chosen author had selected a nom de plume to encourage a wider audience. So I decided to glance through the book and the phrase "escaping the entrails of whiteness" sort of leapt off the page. The jacket references were in a similar vein by a notable set of reviewers (the best was probably Morris F.X. Jeff, Jr of the SANKOVA COMMUNIVERSITY, but the "Read it and be healed." comment from Hannibal Afrik of the Council of Independent Black Institutions was good as well.) I concluded a) this is all the fault of the racist Donald, b) it could be used as a supporting text for several of Ace's recent diatribes, and c) the pages will probably serve nicely when I next need to start my wood stove. Amazon, once contacted, promptly reordered the correct book and told me I did not need to bother returning the one received in error. Seriously, I won't even try to turn this book in at the local used book store. Thanks for all the racial healing, Obuma! Posted by: Hrothgar AoS Book Reviewer at June 08, 2016 08:39 AM (wYnyS) 152

He took my pistol - it was an old Astra 9mm - to the gunsmith, and had him pin the safety in the off position and remove the slide-catch. He taught us to carry a full mag with an empty chamber. When you draw, your off-hand goes for the weapon, racks the slide, and wraps around your shooting hand. (Needless to say, I used his method for a long time, but eventually realized it was a system developed to accommodate earlier, obsolete weapons.) Years ago, I went to a renaissance fair(e) with my ex. The place had allowed dogs for years so of course we brought our Golden. When we got there a new sign had been put up. Something like "Dogs are no longer allowed, sorry for the inconvenience.." Well it was a beautiful day and I wanted some greasy chicken and ale so I tossed on my sunglasses and shortened up the dog leash and did my best Stevie Wonder. I did a hell of an impersonation but my Golden just about gave away the game. All he wanted to do was go and visit with everyone and dragged me all over the place. Not very service dog like. Still, nobody called me on it and people even got out of my way to that I could move up to the rail and "watch" the jousting. On the way out I took off my glasses by the ticket counter and let the dog run. Dirty looks ensued. Posted by: JackStraw at June 08, 2016 09:00 AM (/tuJf) 209

One of the tests that our Golden had to do - the one that gave me the most anxiety, was the one where you had to put them in a sit-stay in the center of an auditorium. Then about a dozen people came at her, dropping cafeteria trays, flipping wheelchairs over, screaming at her, throwing balls across the room in front of her, squirting a hose at her, etc. All this, and she was not allowed to move. At all. Until given the command to come. The whole ordeal went on for a couple of minutes. She never moved or blinked. I miss that girl. She was a champ. . . . .We are training our newest dog in the pet store. The lady who does it is very good working with dogs. Our girl was nervous as heck at first but after 7 weeks she will sit and stay for 3 minutes in the middle of the store while my wife walks away to the other side of the store. All of this while the store has it's routine going on of people and dogs coming and going. She will call her and she runs through the store ignoring the traps of treats the lady has spread throughout the store. Remarkable progress in 7 short sessions. Posted by: Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing at June 08, 2016 09:33 AM (X6fMO) This. As noted above, the defining characteristic of the GOPe is that they fully buy into the left's definition of what is or is not racist, sexist, etc. The second the left says "that's sexist" they go into instant defense mode, which does no good at all, because the Left will never, ever say, "Oh, OK, now that I've heard your explanation I guess you're really not a sexist pig." An extremely accident prone person I know, once related the story of the time he slipped with a chainsaw and cut into his leg above the knee.
He claims he cleaned out the wound, superglued the gouge in his leg back together, and went into town (small farming town) to get to the doctor (was faster from his farm to do this than get an ambulance). He found the doctor eating breakfast, showed the doctor his leg, and the doctor said "good job, come see me in a few days for a followup". No stitches, nothing. Just "hey, that worked great." Good Morning Morons!
I wanted to give a quick polling update of Florida. Contrary to Ace's concerns from yesterday, Trump is not looking like THAT much of a loser right now. PPP (famously Dem leaning) released a poll of Florida that shows Trump leading Clinton 45-44. Amazingly, this is a registered voter sample, instead of a likely voter screen (as most are). This poll completed on June 5th during the course of the whole Hispanic judge kerfluffle. Florida, is of course, a must win for Trump, since no scenario let's him trade Florida for some other rust belt state (all of which he is polling badly in now anyway). Now caution is always advised, since all other Florida polls are showing Clinton with a small lead. But as with all polls this year, there is a sky high number of undecideds out there available for whichever candidate can get their act together and run a campaign. Also, I note that Ace mentioned the Reuters poll yesterday, and it is posted over at Hotair right now. RCP is STILL not including it in their average. I won't consider it valid if the pros over at RCP continue to ignore it. Posted by: Dave in Fla at June 08, 2016 09:39 AM (DzSJ5) Posted by: Polliwog the 'Ette at June 08, 2016 09:41 AM (GDulk) 329

The think that Trump and the Dems are that the GOPe and the rest of the Rs aren't is shameless.
You can't shame DJT or the Dems. Romney is ashamed of being a member of the GOPe. Romney and McCain long for the validation of the Dems and Kasich that they are Good people. DJT wants to win and will do what is required to win. Hillary will probably lose cause she has issues that the spirits-of-the-air (SOTA) will find and play with. DJT's first thought is, "how do I get around this obstacle to my goal". Hillary's first thought is, "how can I destroy the person in my way". Hillary's goal is to destroy people. Being President is just a better position to destroy people from to Hillary. Posted by: ok at June 08, 2016 09:43 AM (jN+3o) 335

Do you know the circumstances of Ryan's comments yesterday? I bet 90% do not. He was at an inner city event surrounded by minorities that the Republicans are trying to woo announcing the House Republican Platform that the party is going to be running on this fall. He was asked repeatedly by the msm to comment on Trump's comments which no matter how you want to couch them were identity politics and completely counter to the message the party is trying to get out to broaden the base. Being more inclusive was one of the central themes of his message. More votes is kind of important if we want to win. https://tinyurl.com/jyne97q What exactly did you want him, as one of the leaders of the Republican Party, to say? Yes, I completely agree that Trump should be hammering a judge who is hearing the case where Trump is being sued for fraud on his Mexican heritage. Yes, I'm sure that would be a brilliant answer for the blogosphere, not so much for the rest of the world. Sometimes it's actually helpful to not pretend what we think here is how the rest of the country operates. ...I'm sure that the word went out 'get your client under control' to avoid that...
Wasn't necessary. Trump had already made his point. The Judge had already started to change his orders so that he wouldn't look like the partisan hack he is. Does anyone believe this won't be dropped as soon as the election is over. Remeber that reporter that had her arm ripped off. Anyone think her suit isn't going to be dropped after the election? Partisan hackery and you fell for it. Where is Dan Rather and the 60 second jerk-offs when you need them? Posted by: ok at June 08, 2016 09:57 AM (j2xmV) 378

Correct. If a lawyer tried to get a judge recused based on ethnicity it would open them up to sanctions.
What about getting a judge recused based on his membership to a racist organization? Posted by: rickb223 at June 08, 2016 09:58 AM (0DVOr) 380
67 . . . Incidentally, for a time there, without being overtly
sexual/voluptuous, Meg Ryan was just about as lovely as any actress in the history of Hollywood. * * Indeed she was. Partly because of her, You've Got Mail, the semi-remake of the 1940 James Stewart vehicle The Shop Around the Corner, is one of my favorite flicks. Though I've heard that Meg was the top choice at one point to play the lead, the sociopathic wife eventually played by Nicole Kidman, in To Die For. Not sure how that would have worked out. Posted by: Colin at June 08, 2016 09:56 AM (fxoKC) I know. Trump is as universally hated as Obama was loved. Some, not many, and certainly not most, eventually woke up the our hollow man president. It would be cool to see the opposite sequence happen with Trump. Posted by: Mr Macca Bean at June 08, 2016 09:58 AM (4ng05) 383
>>the House Republican Platform that the party is going to be running on this fall."
There is no "House Republican Platform." There is the Democratic White House agenda that is presented as a fait accompli to the House, and there are the House Republicans who facilitate passing of that agenda in Congress. Paul Ryan is a worm. Posted by: General Zod at June 08, 2016 09:59 AM (Bdeb0) 384
As I've mentioned before...
The way to defeat the left and destroy the democrat party for generations is for Trump, high-profile republicans and the right wing media to jump on a campaign of attacking the democrat party for being racist. It would be easy to show how the democrat elite have conspired to keep the black population uneducated and in poverty in order to keep in power and enrich themselves. For blacks, it explains why they haven't seen the progress they should have in the past 60 years. It gives them the villain they need to focus their anger. Hating and blaming republicans for the past 6 decades hasn't worked to bring the changes they need. Toss some money into some hard-hitting docu-ads and it can bring a sea change to elections. We don't get any of the black vote now, so there is absolutely nothing to lose. Posted by: jwest at June 08, 2016 09:59 AM (Zs4uk) 385

Two things that I don't want to happen, and they might not, but I dread. Now that Hillary is "officially", ahem, the nominee, Comey will announce that it would be inappropriate to pursue charges lest they unduly influence the election. Also, that a "normalcy" bias will settle on the electorate and Hillary will be the "normal" candidate, Trump a fringe figure who was kinda fun to watch for a few months, but the real world needs a serious person in the White House and what's more serious than a former Senator and Sec State? I hope the opposite happens on both counts, but not holding my breath.

generations is for Trump, high-profile republicans and the right wing media to jump on a campaign of attacking the democrat party for being racist. They have to crank up the Alinsky #4 to freakin' 11on everything Hillary, Obama and the Dems say. Leave no hypocrisy hidden, scorched earth on double-standards. Seriously, things have gotten so wacky in the last few years it would be so easy to do this. For example: "Oh, you're worried about rape culture but you don't want university to do criminal background checks on applicants?" Posted by: Lizzy at June 08, 2016 10:04 AM (NOIQH) 393

That is the Mythos. About to be crushed. Sweet Federal money is going to dry up. All these people married to the Government are going to be divorced and find they signed a pre-nup. Obama will be a synonym for toilet paper in ten years. If Trump delivers he will replace Reagan in the pantheon. Obama conspiracy theories will replace JFK conspiracies. Posted by: Mr. Peebles at June 08, 2016 09:56 AM (mBYZv) The 2 cases don't seem at all similar to me. If you time-traveled back to the 70's and told people Jenner would end up believing himself to be a woman, nobody would have believed you. Nobody thought of Jenner as anything but a heterosexual man. If you time-traveled back to the 70's and told people Simmons would end up believing himself to be a woman, people would said, "Doesn't he think that now? Dude makes Liberace look butch." Re: Glocks "Stupid place to put the safety".
It's intentional. Glocks were initially designed for military use. They have over 1/3 of the US law enforcement market. Idea is that in military and police applications user shouldn't have to try to remember if an exterior manual safety is on or off. The safety is inside and prevents accidental discharges. So if you pull the trigger it always goes off. If you don't pull the trigger it doesn't. Police accidental discharges with Glocks nearly always involve knucklehead stuff. Which statistically will happen when you have so many in active use every day. Posted by: Ignoramus at June 08, 2016 11:18 AM (r1fLd) Processing 0.06, elapsed 0.0786 seconds. |
