Ralph Nader: Hillary a "Corporatist, Militarist Democrat" Who's Only Going to Win the Nomination "By Dictatorship"

He also had mixed thoughts on Trump.

The liberal activist says Trump has brought some important issues to the fore.

"He's questioned the trade agreements. He's done some challenging of Wall Street-- I don't know how authentic that is. He said he's against the carried interest racket, for hedge funds. He's funded himself and therefore attacked special interest money, which is very important," Nader says. "But he's lowered the level of political debate to unheard-of depths of salacious, slanderous and vacuousness, garnished with massive self-boosterism and repetition."

"And that's not good, because that brought a lot of money into the media and that's the kind of debates they're going to want to goad."

When asked what positive contributions Clinton has made to the 2016 campaign, Nader called her a "corporatist, militarist Democrat" who would have been defeated by Sanders if every state held an open primary.

"She's going to win by dictatorship. Twenty-five percent of superdelegates are cronies, mostly. They weren't elected. They were there in order to stop somebody like Bernie Sanders, who would win by the vote," he says.

8 I didn't know Nader was still alive. So Nader is feeling the Bern?

Speaking of militaristic Democrats - The House GOP announced that they are going to hold hearing on whether IRS Chief Koskinen misled Congress and violated a subpoena. Will anything come of it? Probably not but it at least will expose more illegal acts against Americans by this Administration.

31 So, I'm not sure what the game is with Y-not.

Another sidebar article on Trump, in which Y-not headlines it that Trump's new energy advisor is recommending a carbon tax. So I click on the link provided and the headline says that Cramer is recommending Trump NOT endorse a carbon tax.

Also linked are two scores for Cramer. One from Conservative Review of an F. So I look at that one, and CR 's review says Cramer is conservative on energy, and often votes with the Republican Caucus, but drifts left sometimes.

Ok. So I guess that brands the guy with an F, according to Conservative Review.

So Trump has the guy join the campaign as an energy advisor, something CR praises Cramer's views and action on.

But am I supposed to be shrieking right now as to how Donald lied to all of us to get the nomination, he's picking lefty cronies to aid his campaign. His energy advisor pick gets praise from Conservative Review.

He didn't pick him as VP. And the headline on the sidebar article is factually incorrect.

So what is the game? Just to make sure everyone reads the articles?

++++

Depends on which Dem you think would match up better against Trump. I think Trump will have a better shot against Hillary. She is widely disliked and as they would say in the military, she is a target rich environment.

Also, the so-called Trump Democrats. Teamsters and other non-government union types. I think Trump will have an easier time stealing them from Hillary than he would against Sanders.

On the other hand, on the off chance that Trump loses, I would rather see a President Sanders than see Hillary in the White House.

87 On Trump's supposed heresies:

The issue isn't Free Trade per se. It's that after we do a Trade Treaty the other countries practice de facto Mercantilism so it winds up unbalanced. The Big Global Companies don't care, because they don't care about your typical American. Sadly, neither does Paul Ryan. 45% tariffs is a threat to push for reform. That said, we have plenty to do on our side of the fence as well, including ending overburdening regulation and reforming our tax system.

If you say you're going to repeal Obamacare you need to say that you won't let people die in the streets, else the Left and MSM will say that you're going to let people die in the streets.

It's politic to dance with not being opposed to a small increase in the minimum wage, or better still leave it to the states to account for local cost-of-living differences.

It's the outsider mantra. They believe Bernie is an outsider, despite the fact that the old codger has been in congress for 26 years. And was a local gov. official and politician for a decade before that.

The Berniebots aren't deep thinkers. They are reactionaries, who believe all the fairy dust stuff Bernie says, like free college, free health care, no defense, etc. So when Trump says anything that smacks of getting at banks, not sending troops into undefined wars, etc. it goes along with their overall views.

Isn't game theory fun?

106 Speaking of automobiles and weight distribution, I recently got an answer to a question that had nagged at me for years. My car, a Chrysler Sebring, has a battery located in such a way that you have to remove the driver's side front tire, a mud guard and a large clamp in order to change it. Had a guy who worked at Chrysler for 25 years change mine for me a few weeks ago, and he told me the reason for it's location was the "60/40 Ratio" Chrysler came up with. Exactly 60% of the weight in the front half, 40% in the rear, supposed to aid in handling. Putting the battery where it is was apparently a necessary evil to achieve correct weight and balance.

The Corvair's an interesting little car, another example like so many of GM taking an interesting and technically advanced concept and quitting at 80% on the engineering because the beancounters came down on them.

The aluminum Buick V8, the Vega, the Corvair, the Rochester mechanical FI, all kinds of stuff.

The V8 conversions were mostly Crown. Kelmark did some stuff too. But I wouldn't do a V8 conversion on one now. It's not that hard to make real power out of the six. The biggest powertrain limitation is that it needs another gear or two, and it's not easy to get a 5-speed anything in one.

Well, technically, 60/40 is good for a FWD car and it's going to be nice and safe and understeery but as a general rule for performance you want somewhere close to 50/50. You'll almost never get there in a FWD car. BMW, et al spend real money (aluminum front structure, trunk-mounted battery, etc.) taking weight off the nose to get there.

The Lincoln LS of a few years back was a similar example, it was supposed to sell in Europe against the 5-series/E-class but then Ford bought Jaguar and Volvo. In the US the Lincoln brand was (and is) so weak they couldn't get 5-series money for the LS, and the car was too expensive to build to sell for what American buyers would pay for it.

Very few cars were in those days. We forget how scary the average Falcon or Chevelle was at 100mph.

Now, anything will go that fast, and it'll stop from those speeds, and it'll probably even stay on the road doing it.

Though frankly I flogged a '69 Beetle for a few years and found it to be an incredibly planted, tossable car. First year of the semi-trailing-arm IRS.

Four-wheel drums but with all the weight on the rear they worked fine. All you needed was maintenance (lots of maintenance, Beetles had solid lifters and no oil filter, so a girlfriend who liked to have sex on the garage floor under a car was a good - no, AMAZING - thing) and good tires.

I doubt Trump takes many of Bernie's voters in the long run. Right now they are pissed off and still battling Hillary--I think this is reflected in the current uptick of the 18 to 34 year old demographic support for Trump in the latest Quinnipiac polling of Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida.

Some people feel that Q over polls whites. What is certain is that in May of 2012 Q showed Mitt surging to a 6% lead over Obama in Florida--and we all know how that ended.

Bernie campaigns for Hillary or Biden. Obama hits Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Cleveland--and a Bernie Kids favorite--Elizabeth Warren--hits the airwaves.

Most of Bernie's voters vote Dem, or sts at home.

Now we need conservative candidates who don't get too righteous about proclaiming how severely conservative they are.

Wouldn't it be nice to have conservatism repackaged as "pragmatism"?

Obamacare? "Nope, it just doesn't work in the real world--that top-down approach is so outdated. I'm more focused on looking solutions that work."

Overreach by regulators? "We need to repeal as many regulations as we can to back where they were during the Bill Clinton administration. Then we can take a look at what works and what doesn't."

Rinse, pragmatically repeat.

225 Pulled from an article today. I think the link on the right was way off the mark, and they often are when Trump is involved.

"Re: U.S. Republican Congressman Kevin Cramer of North Dakota

"Republican presidential contender Donald Trump has asked one of America's most ardent drilling advocates and climate change skeptics to help him draft his energy policy.

"... Cramer's inclusion suggests the presumptive Republican presidential nominee's oil policy could emphasize more drilling, less regulation and taxes, and curbs on efforts to combat climate change.

"Cramer has said he believes the Earth is cooling, not warming, and he has opposed efforts by the Obama administration to regulate greenhouse gas emissions."

Trump himself has repeatedly denounced AGW as a hoax.

226 GM never really fixed it. There were several years of Corvairs out there before GM even fessed up it was a problem. If I remember the first "fix" was don't blow up the front tires as much as the back or something. Geez. OK.

The first one I owned, my brother warned me strait away, don't lift the throttle in the corners. Well, you can't very well put that advice in the owners manual. Wrong design for the buyer they wanted to sell cars too, that's all. If they would've added 50 more HP, a 4 speed, and some wider tires and it would have been a decent cone killer.

Remember when you used to have to go to the television to change channels and turn it on and off? Adjust the antenna? Fix the color etc?

Then remotes came out, so you could sit back and do most of that. Lazy, but convenient.

The TVs got better and computerized so they were automatically adjusting, then they got HD and gigantic so they had this amazing image. Less work, better results.

Now its hot to have a remote you talk to? How freaking lazy can you get that pushing buttons on a remote control is too much to bear? And after dealing with voice controls on phones and cars, who thinks this is going to work out at all?

254 Can you hook me up to an IV? I've been at church all day, hosting (chairing) a funeral reception that tore my heart out. Young 30-something man, son of dear friends, a kid with everything in the world going for him, gorgeous young wife, tons of friends, great job, etc. etc. killed himself the day before Mother's Day. Standing room only in the sanctuary, and we fed probably 300+ people in the church hall.

The mom has been on my team for years, so I made sure everything was extra perfect for her. And before she left, she wearily hugged and thanked me, with a glazed expression on her face. I went in the kitchen and cried.

259 The first one I owned, my brother warned me strait away, don't lift the throttle in the corners. Well, you can't very well put that advice in the owners manual. Wrong design for the buyer they wanted to sell cars too, that's all. If they would've added 50 more HP, a 4 speed, and some wider tires and it would have been a decent cone killer.

When I was a teen I worked at a car dealer and had to drive a Corvair from one lot to another. It was a manual, I was on an off ramp and pushed in the clutch to downshift and that thing went sideways on me - when I put it back in gear it snapped back into the line.

Scared the crap out of me.

261 @249 It's a compelling video.

You can rag on Nader all you want but he helped push for safety features that have saved hundreds of thousands of lives. Statistically it's highly likely that some of those saved are people that you know, or the parents or grandparents of people you know who would otherwise not be here.

273 Nader is a leftist and a fool. The problem is some of the biggest corporations are now run by the same people.

Example 1: Mark Zuckerberg
Example 2:Jeff Bezos

Both of them use government as a means to crush competition by supporting complicated taxes and regulations. They have armies of lawyers, ex-regulators, paid off politicians, lobbyists, and accountants to get them though the new red tape. However, every start-up and small business (the future competitor of Amazon and Facebook) do not and therefore cannot survive without doing basically the same thing.

That is not capitalism, that is not conservative. Yet reading certain "conservatives" gives you the impression that Amazon and Facebook are the ideals of American capitalism. One time they were, but they turned to the dark side, and therefore I will not lose a bit of sleep if President Trump starts nailing them with anti-trust lawsuits, etc.

These folks worked with big government to gain a un-capitalistic advantage within the USA, so let them reap the rewards of big government. It is the only way people learn...
