Tick Tock

Beijing is setting the stage for war in the South China Sea. It's only a matter of time before this one lights off.

Bathroom Decree

Obama to issue decree squashing transgender 'bathroom law'. So why stop there? Can a male prisoner now self identify as a female and get transferred to the female section of the prison? Can a male servicemember now self identify as female to get the easier physical readiness standards? How about a student applying for a college scholarship?

Brothers In Arms

On this day back in 1985, Dire Straits released their album Brothers In Arms and that song was used in this scene from Miami Vice.

Mayor Of Londonstan

Mayor of London threatens Trump: Let muslims in or they will attack America! I guess this mayor hasn't been keeping up on recent history. They're already attacking America (and the rest of the world).

ISIS Learning App

One can only hope ISIS will start teaching their kids Common Core. ISIS releases learning app to teach kids about tanks and rockets.

When Doctors Literally Blew Smoke Up Your Arse

Heh. The precursor to Obamacare.

Oh California

University of California President Napolitano allocates $25.2M for students in country illegally. I think I'm just going to have my kids self-identify as "undocumented students" when they go to college.

Dog Story

Is it dusty in here? The valuable lesson I learned from my dog.

16 Meat chopper.

Place I volunteer has a PBJ (not a real one, just a B-25 configured as one) under renovation. As I recall it had even *more* 50cals in the nose.

First thing I wondered when I saw it - did they carry ballast back in the mid-section to toss out as the enormous weight of belted 50cal ammo up front was reduced by firing?

Anna would probably know, if she's about.

17 From the last thread:

Babylon 5 was ok, but got sorta silly by the late third season.

Looking back, it would have been far more interesting if the Humans had been chosen to be the Shadow's champions in the war. It would have fit the universe better anyways.

S:AAB was cool, but my guess is that they would have gone down the leftist rabbit hole of "EEEEVIL CORPORATE CONSPIRACY!" if they had gone on to a second or third season.

Diversity!

If only we could get these refugees homes in the Hamptons. Or near Camp David. Or Beverly Hills. Because EVERYONE needs to experience Diversity, most especially Democratic Politicians and Hollywood Democrats.

/hey George Clooney, why aren't you hosting a "refugee family." A how about you Gweneth Paltrow? I bet your kid would be really "enriched" if they were exposed to some "refugee teenagers."

24 The term "sneaky fuckers" was coined by evolutionary biologist John Maynard Smith to describe subordinate males who take advantage of the opportunity to mate with females while dominant males are otherwise occupied, leading to their reproductive success (Smith, 1993). It was originally thought that in some species such as deer and gorillas, only the dominate male mates successfully. But, through direct observation and DNA analysis, it is now known that often other males surreptitiously successfully mate when they can find the opportunity.

26 And I mentioned (prob. in an ONT) that a Navy ship's company (DDG, USS Kidd, I think) had two M2s set up for their last qualification shoot at the range where I volunteer.

On tripods. It was hilarious watching them chew up/disintegrate (almost instantly) the target stands (wood pieces holding up the cardboard backer). They had to use something, and they didn't bring any special targets. The lieutenant sort of apologized, and we laughed and said it was just fine.

Also probably mentioned that every now and then I can hear the sweet distinctive mechanical sound of the Ma Deuces firing at a Marine range a few miles from the house.

33 How NOT To Teach Democracy In Schools

The Left love to champion "democracy" and use it as an excuse to shove people into a voting booth like it is a clown car, because it is advantageous to them... until it is not. Venezuelan President Maduro has threatened to threaten Venezuela's legislature for daring to oppose his so-called socialist paradise... but at least he's not picking on kids like San Francisco schools are hell bent on doing.

35 Had a fascinating conversation with my State Senator's representative on the phone today. They are trying to force the state AG to define the baseline rules and definitions for transgender and, of course since he's a Democrat, he's trying his damnedest to evade and obscure the issue because he's beginning to see the legal pitfalls therein.

Neat part is that they are threatening legal action requiring the AG to clarify how one's "identity" is defined. The "concern" is that there seems to be a potential argument that since the sex on one's birth certificate apparently is not really definitive thus I can use whatever bathroom I want to, then why can't I similarly identify as a female (or Pacific Islander, etc.) and be eligible to enter my company for government minority set-aside contracts? Why, since the sex listed on the birth certificate is redefinable by the way I feel today, can't I similarly decide that I feel like I'm sixty five and want to enroll in Medicare and start withdrawing funds from my IRA without penalty? At the other end of the age spectrum, why can't a sixteen year old say "Bartender, I know I look like I'm sixteen, but I identify as twenty-one so serve me a beer! "

I'm buying popcorn (and hollow-point just in case)!

82 Was screaming at the TV earlier tonight. The brilliant psychiatrist, Charles Krauthammer, was twisting himself into pretzels trying to explain how there ARE individuals who have feelings of being female or male due to genetic conditions such as Turner's syndrome etc without clearly stating that the majority are mentally ill. He never got around to saying that much of the current fascination with gender identity is a failure of the psychiatric community to successfully treat these people or at least provide them with coping skills, medication, etc. and it has now been abducted by the SJW and the liberals as a power grab, much to the relief of the psych profession. It absolves them of the responsibility to deal with it.

I don't even care about that. There is no way to prove whether a man "identifying" as female is sincere or not. Therefore, sex offenders, child molesters, and assorted perverts will be able to enter women's shower rooms, changing rooms, and bathrooms. You have to be an imbecile to think that perverts won't take advantage of this. There is no way that they can protect women and girls from this.

143 Above all!

When you discover that your basement / swimming pool is a portal to hell, keep your family with you in the chaos nexis and get that shit GRANDFATHERED into the HOA Terms and Covenants.

DON'T try for Treasurer (they've got some graft going w/ the landscape company and will NOT appreciate you fucking with their rice bowl), go for SECRETARY, take the minutes, be a team player!

*Don't* be the lady with the clip-board who notices 1 garage light an HOUR after it goes out, in the middle of the day. (She's on her own spirit journey.)

Become a community asset!

Walk the neighborhood, parlay your most remote connections to safety and security (my Dad was a Marine! I have worked for Comcast. I have a dog!) into a calming and reassuring sense of community.

"Oh, the blood fountain! I'm probably getting screwed by my contractor. If I could, I'd just do it myself, you know? Who do you use?"

When you see your 14 year old daughter rise up as an evil succubus, distract the neighbors by sheepishly pointing out that one right garage light that won't stay on.

"No one wants to be caught by Nancy, with the Clipboard, do they, heh, heh?"

While you are working together on that right Garage Light with the fritzy circuit, you can pass off all the howling of the damned souls as Heavy Metal Music from your 11 year old boy.

"Don't you have a daughter, as well?"

"Yes, we did, I mean DO. She's... travelling right now. It's a foreign exchange program. We're very, very, proud."

The Chicago columnist Mike Royko once did a column on how Harold Washington won election as mayor even though he wasn't blessed by the democratic party machine. The democrats' ward people peeled off $5 bills to black people to vote for their guy, the black people took the money, then went in and voted for Washington. If I'm not mistaken their guy was Richard Daley's son.

It was extremely hip and edgy during it's run. Actual stories that you needed to pay attention to understand. Drug cartels and the drug scene in Miami was very relevant at the time, and the show capitalized on that. Lots of $$$.
Don Johnson started a trend in men's fashion that no one had really done before, the suit jacket over a T-shirt. The clothes on the show were high end couture for men, and most of it not something other than a young athletic type could pull off.

They were NBC's answer to the CBS's phenom at the time, Magnum PI. Magnum and co. had the war buddies from Vietnam and a WWII vet , for story lines, that took place in a gorgeous tropical location. $$$, including the red Ferrari 308 Magnum drove, which was new and eye candy to a lot of viewers.

Miami Vice's Crockett (who often posed as a drug dealer) drove a Ferrari Daytona Spider replica, then Testarrosa's when Ferrari finally agreed to provide the real cars for the show. Since the story lines revolved around rich drug dealers, etc. the lineup of cars on Miami Vice, not to mention gorgeous real estate and women in bikinis had a lot of draw.

227 China had ocean going fleets in the late 1300s and early 1400s, reaching Europe and the Americas.

Then the emperor and the bureaucrats turned their backs on ocean exploration leaving it open for the Europeans. You can google it.

Back in 2009 when Obama abandoned the Space Race, the moon, and manned missions I asked the question then, had the US government just made that same decision that the Chinese government made 600 years ago; to abandon exploration. And would Obama's decision then cede the moon, and the space race to another country like China who could step up and claim the moon for themselves.

Of course, I am an anonymous nobody with no credentials. What do I know.

When the British fleet defeated the Spanish Armada in 1588, Spain and Portugal, who had dominated the oceans up until that time, began losing the initiative to the British who build a global empire.

Will China do what the British did to Spain when they sink the US Navy?

Who can know the future?

237 My exact first thought when they started talking the transgender madness for the military: If I'm fat, can't pass the PT test, and I've got 12 or 14 years in, I'm showing up at APFT and weigh-in day saying, "Hey, you're using the wrong column on the chart, man. I'm feeling like a woman today and I only have to do 7 pushups and I can go, what, 40% bodyfat? Take that shit, suckers."

We'll be years unraveling this crazy. If we ever do.

243 I had a major accident happen all around me today. Was on 75 South heading into downtown Atlanta, in the far left lane, and an old pickup in the far right lane about 30 yards ahead of me suddenly jacked hard right and flipped a couple of times.

The accident happened in real time, but it was slow mo from my perspective. I somehow got out when cars in front of, behind me and next to me were involved.

Turned around and went home. Kissed the driveway when I got home. I understand the wreck fcuked up Atlanta rush hour traffic big time.

Heh. I remember when I had my first security interview when I got out of the USAF. In the USAF, every 5 years, I'd talk to some former battle axe jarhead for an update on the clearance. When I got out I got a job requiring a TS, which I had held while in the USAF. Anyway, I went to the interview and looked for an old battle axe and instead saw a young lady with super model looks. It was distracting, in a good way. Not what I was expecting. She was married, sadly.

Many two word conversations with the delinquent- the second word was "you".
All but 3 of the 2 dozen plus people I worked with were scum. The others I would have tossed gasoline on if they were on fire.
One in particular liked to keep a daily running tally of the people he made cry. He really seemed to get off on it. Another had me thinking he might come in and try to kill everyone as he had serious anger issues.
Another was a textbook narcissist.

It's only a matter of time before one of their workers messes something up and hurts someone important. And they do work with Important People.

If that doesn't happen, Partner 1 is headed towards death from a massive heart attack (had his first one last year at age 49 and has made no life changes) and Partner 2 will eventually have his wife and kids leave him and be stuck with tons of child support.

And if those things don't happen, they'll eventually have to answer to their deeds in the afterlife.

391 Although I know the details vary by state, any cogent Moron who is going to have to deal with an estate, aging parents, etc...

Get 'em to set it all up in a Revokable Trust, with you (if you're the Big Cheese Executor) as the Trustee.

This means that the Oldsters go ahead and re-title all of the property....house, cars, other goods, etc., to The Trust, which then reverts to the Trustee(s) upon their passing.

To be sure, a Will is still required, but having it all in a Trust, in most states, circumvents the Probate Court from wetting their beaks into the disbursement of an estate.

Remember, the job of the Probate Court is not to oversee the fair disbursement of the estate to it's heirs. No, it is to enrich the Members of the Bar who appear before said court, seeking their overly large slice of said estate(s), as their due for guiding the clueless heirs through the agonies of what their progenitors left for them to fight over.

Get with a good Wills and Trust attorney, spend a couple-three thousand now, and save tens of thousands, later.

BTW, here's something you should ALL do. Most states come into the possession of property that is deemed 'abandoned'. What sometimes happens when someone passes away is that things get 'lost' or overlooked. Sometimes it is dividend checks that were undeliverable, sometimes a forgotten bank account, etc.

Try searching something like "Iowa Unclaimed Property", and see if your state has a web site.

I know that NC, SC, and GA all have such sites. A week ago, I found my own name on the NC list, and reclaimed $468. I have no idea where it came from, most likely a forgotten bank account.

By way of example, here is the NC site:

485 Four .50 cals is nothing, when the Cadillac of the Skies carried six, and Thunderbolts buried the reckless Hun with eight on every sortie.

You would have to confirm with Anna Puma, but I think later Mitchells carried 8 fixed plus 2 in the upper turret and 2 in the belly for 14 forward-firing heavy machine-guns.

Which if anyone had given a flying fuck probably would've saved the tenacious Frogs at Dien Bien Phu.

493 That bottom picture is of the business end of the only flying B-25H Mitchell Barbie III.

http://www.warbirdregistry.org/b25registry/b25-434106.html

To help the pilot aim are 4 .50cal machine guns. An additional four are in blister packs, two on each side. The top turret, a Martin 250CE, has two more .50 cal machine guns. Giving the H a theoretical 10 forward firing .50cal machine guns. Plus the lightweight 75mm packed into what was the bombardier crawl-way.

The Mitchell model with the most .50cal machine guns was the solid nose -J that 8 in the nose, 4 in blister packs, and the top turret. For a total of 14 forward firing .50cal machine guns.

Although - geek alert - that was my favorite mechwarrior design in the video games. Load them up with machine guns and ammo. Just need some reloads and it would have been perfect.

Davey Johnson was a cool guy, as the manager, but that team was out of control with the drugs.

C- Gary Carter
1B- Keith Hernandez
2B- Wally Backman
3B- Howard Johnson
SS- Rafael Santana
OF- Kevin McReynolds
OF- Lenny Dykstra
OF- Darryl Strawberry

-Tim Teuffel and Gregg Jefferies were notables on that squad.

SP- Ron Darling
SP- Doc Gooden

SP- Sid Fernandez

50 pounds is less than 500, so it'd be fine. I figured that it would take significant effort to put even 200 pounds into your vehicle, so I'd give you a number that would make it clear I wasn't going to sweat the small stuff if you grabbed a whole bunch. I could have made the same point by saying, "I'll make XXX offer for anything you can get into your car in one load without a hoist."

Sometimes, you have to go with the classics -- invest in metals: gold, silver, brass, and lead; invest in insurance: food, water, mobility and arms; and invest in capabilities: learn how to do stuff, and have the tools, supplies, and attitude to get things done.

Here's something that even Stat-Geeks Weird-Out over...

If a pitcher goes six innings and gives up three runs, it is considered a "Quality Start". That means a 4.50 ERA. (Earned Run Average).

A pitcher's ERA is "What he would give-up during a nine-inning outing."

It is considered a "Quality Start" because only one-third of the League averages more than 4.5 Runs per game.

So...

Pitcher's ERA:

4.50- average *meh*
4.00- #4 Starter
3.50- #2 Starter
3.00- #1 Starter/ "Ace"

Under 3.00 is a League Ace and probably on his way to the Hall of Fame.
