Meat chopper.
Place I volunteer has a PBJ (not a real one, just a B-25 configured as one) under renovation. As I recall it had even *more* 50cals in the nose. First thing I wondered when I saw it - did they carry ballast back in the mid-section to toss out as the enormous weight of belted 50cal ammo up front was reduced by firing? Anna would probably know, if she's about. Posted by: rhomboid at May 13, 2016 10:09 PM (QDnY+) 17
From the last thread:
Babylon 5 was ok, but got sorta silly by the late third season. Looking back, it would have been far more interesting if the Humans had been chosen to be the Shadow's champions in the war. It would have fit the universe better anyways. S:AAB was cool, but my guess is that they would have gone down the leftist rabbit hole of "EEEEVIL CORPORATE CONSPIRACY!" if they had gone on to a second or third season. The term "sneaky fuckers" was coined by evolutionary biologist John Maynard Smith to describe subordinate males who take advantage of the opportunity to mate with females while dominant males are otherwise occupied, leading to their reproductive success (Smith, 1993). It was originally thought that in some species such as deer and gorillas, only the dominate male mates successfully. But, through direct observation and DNA analysis, it is now known that often other males surreptitiously successfully mate when they can find the opportunity.

And I mentioned (prob. in an ONT) that a Navy ship's company (DDG, USS Kidd, I think) had two M2s set up for their last qualification shoot at the range where I volunteer.
On tripods. It was hilarious watching them chew up/disintegrate (almost instantly) the target stands (wood pieces holding up the cardboard backer). They had to use something, and they didn't bring any special targets. The lieutenant sort of apologized, and we laughed and said it was just fine. Also probably mentioned that every now and then I can hear the sweet distinctive mechanical sound of the Ma Deuces firing at a Marine range a few miles from the house. How NOT To Teach Democracy In Schools
The Left love to champion "democracy" and use it as an excuse to shove people into a voting booth like it is a clown car, because it is advantageous to them... until it is not. Venezuelan President Maduro has threatened to threaten Venezuela's legislature for daring to oppose his so-called socialist paradise... but at least he's not picking on kids like San Francisco schools are hell bent on doing. Had a fascinating conversation with my State Senator's representative on the phone today. They are trying to force the state AG to define the baseline rules and definitions for transgender and, of course since he's a Democrat, he's trying his damnedest to evade and obscure the issue because he's beginning to see the legal pitfalls therein.
Neat part is that they are threatening legal action requiring the AG to clarify how one's "identity" is defined. The "concern" is that there seems to be a potential argument that since the sex on one's birth certificate apparently is not really definitive thus I can use whatever bathroom I want to, then why can't I similarly identify as a female (or Pacific Islander, etc.) and be eligible to enter my company for government minority set-aside contracts? Why, since the sex listed on the birth certificate is redefinable by the way I feel today, can't I similarly decide that I feel like I'm sixty five and want to enroll in Medicare and start withdrawing funds from my IRA without penalty? At the other end of the age spectrum, why can't a sixteen year old say "Bartender, I know I look like I'm sixteen, but I identify as twenty-one so serve me a beer! " I'm buying popcorn (and hollow-point just in case)! Posted by: Hrothgar at May 13, 2016 10:21 PM (wYnyS) 36

Was screaming at the TV earlier tonight. The brilliant psychiatrist, Charles Krauthammer, was twisting himself into pretzels trying to explain how there ARE individuals who have feelings of being female or male due to genetic conditions such as Turner's syndrome etc without clearly stating that the majority are mentally ill. He never got around to saying that much of the current fascination with gender identity is a failure of the psychiatric community to successfully treat these people or at least provide them with coping skills, medication, etc. and it has now been abducted by the SJW and the liberals as a power grab, much to the relief of the psych profession. It absolves them of the responsibility to deal with it.

I don't even care about that. There is no way to prove whether a man "identifying" as female is sincere or not. Therefore, sex offenders, child molesters, and assorted perverts will be able to enter women's shower rooms, changing rooms, and bathrooms. You have to be an imbecile to think that perverts won't take advantage of this. There is no way that they can protect women and girls from this. Liberals are stupid beyond belief. Above all!
When you discover that your basement / swimming pool is a portal to hell, keep your family with you in the chaos nexis and get that shit GRANDFATHERED into the HOA Terms and Covenants. DON'T try for Treasurer (they've got some graft going w/ the landscape company and will NOT appreciate you fucking with their rice bowl), go for SECRETARY, take the minutes, be a team player! *Don't* be the lady with the clip-board who notices 1 garage light an HOUR after it goes out, in the middle of the day. (She's on her own spirit journey.) Become a community asset! Walk the neighborhood, parlay your most remote connections to safety and security (my Dad was a Marine! I have worked for Comcast. I have a dog!) into a calming and reassuring sense of community. "Oh, the blood fountain! I'm probably getting screwed by my contractor. If I could, I'd just do it myself, you know? Who do you use?" When you see your 14 year old daughter rise up as an evil succubus, distract the neighbors by sheepishly pointing out that one right garage light that won't stay on. "No one wants to be caught by Nancy, with the Clipboard, do they, heh, heh?" While you are working together on that right Garage Light with the fritzy circuit, you can pass off all the howling of the damned souls as Heavy Metal Music from your 11 year old boy. "Don't you have a daughter, as well?" "Yes, we did, I mean DO. She's... travelling right now. It's a foreign exchange program. We're very, very, proud." RESALE VALUE! With Hispanics, however, Trump leads Clinton 55 percent to 45 percent.
This lead among Hispanics comes as a surprise -- a recent poll showed nearly 90 percent of Latino voters view Trump unfavorably. The Gravis Marketing poll of over 1,500 registered voters has an overall margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percent. Posted by: James T Kirk at May 13, 2016 11:07 PM (e8kgV) 177

Posted by: Tilikum Armored Killer Assault Whale at May 13, 2016 11:03 PM (hVdx9) It was extremely hip and edgy during it's run. Actual stories that you needed to pay attention to understand. Drug cartels and the drug scene in Miami was very relevant at the time, and the show capitalized on that. Lots of $$$. Don Johnson started a trend in men's fashion that no one had really done before, the suit jacket over a T-shirt. The clothes on the show were high end couture for men, and most of it not something other than a young athletic type could pull off. They were NBC's answer to the CBS's phenom at the time, Magnum PI. Magnum and co. had the war buddies from Vietnam and a WWII vet , for story lines, that took place in a gorgeous tropical location. $$$, including the red Ferrari 308 Magnum drove, which was new and eye candy to a lot of viewers. Miami Vice's Crockett (who often posed as a drug dealer) drove a Ferrari Daytona Spider replica, then Testarrosa's when Ferrari finally agreed to provide the real cars for the show. Since the story lines revolved around rich drug dealers, etc. the lineup of cars on Miami Vice, not to mention gorgeous real estate and women in bikinis had a lot of draw. China had ocean going fleets in the late 1300s and early 1400s, reaching Europe and the Americas.
Then the emperor and the bureaucrats turned their backs on ocean exploration leaving it open for the Europeans. You can google it. Back in 2009 when Obama abandoned the Space Race, the moon, and manned missions I asked the question then, had the US government just made that same decision that the Chinese government made 600 years ago; to abandon exploration. And would Obama's decision then cede the moon, and the space race to another country like China who could step up and claim the moon for themselves. Of course, I am an anonymous nobody with no credentials. What do I know. When the British fleet defeated the Spanish Armada in 1588, Spain and Portugal, who had dominated the oceans up until that time, began losing the initiative to the British who build a global empire. Will China do what the British did to Spain when they sink the US Navy? Who can know the future? Posted by: Vugar Rasim at May 13, 2016 11:23 PM (1bQAQ) 228

somewhat bitter personal anecdote:
I found out today that the company I used to work for as a consultant has opened a new office in CT. From what I can ascertain, they created the office specifically for the guy that the partner I worked for called "a lazy pathological liar who would rather sit home, watch porn and play video games." He gets an office. I went the extra mile and am an honest, hard worker. I got called names and had to quit. Plus, due to cost cutting, I have had to give up my lawn service, and every week deal with a pinched nerve in my neck from mowing. That makes me cranky and angry at them all over again. Weekly. /yes, I am a Big Girl and know Life is Not Fair. I just wish life would not smack me in the face with it so blatantly. somewhat bitter personal anecdote:
Posted by: shibumi **** I say you blow the f*ckers up. That's my answer. Although I know the details vary by state, any cogent Moron who is going to have to deal with an estate, aging parents, etc...
Get 'em to set it all up in a Revokable Trust, with you (if you're the Big Cheese Executor) as the Trustee. This means that the Oldsters go ahead and re-title all of the property....house, cars, other goods, etc., to The Trust, which then reverts to the Trustee(s) upon their passing. To be sure, a Will is still required, but having it all in a Trust, in most states, circumvents the Probate Court from wetting their beaks into the disbursement of an estate. Remember, the job of the Probate Court is not to oversee the fair disbursement of the estate to it's heirs. No, it is to enrich the Members of the Bar who appear before said court, seeking their overly large slice of said estate(s), as their due for guiding the clueless heirs through the agonies of what their progenitors left for them to fight over. Get with a good Wills and Trust attorney, spend a couple-three thousand now, and save tens of thousands, later. Jim Sunk New Dawn Galveston, TX Posted by: Jim at May 14, 2016 12:19 AM (McRlu) 392

Crockett & Tubbs found a body sealed inside of a wall. It ended very abruptly, which helped with the disturbing mood of the piece. Posted by: qdpsteve at May 14, 2016 12:31 AM (ntObR) 421

BTW, here's something you should ALL do. Most states come into the possession of property that is deemed 'abandoned'. What sometimes happens when someone passes away is that things get 'lost' or overlooked. Sometimes it is dividend checks that were undeliverable, sometimes a forgotten bank account, etc. Try searching something like "Iowa Unclaimed Property", and see if your state has a web site. I know that NC, SC, and GA all have such sites. A week ago, I found my own name on the NC list, and reclaimed $468. I have no idea where it came from, most likely a forgotten bank account. By way of example, here is the NC site: http://tinyurl.com/83ko8vx I found a number of neighbors and friends on the list. Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc., etc. at May 14, 2016 12:35 AM (jO7js) 433

420: I think he was a DEA agent who murdered an informant and then had some sort of mental breakdown. The end of the episode sort of confirmed it. The pick of Brothers in Arms definitly helped the creep factor of the story. BiA had a sort of sad, slightly ominous tilt to it that added to the atmosphere. It was a pretty good episode.

There was also a great episode of St. Elsewhere where, in a dream, the doctor played by Christopher Morse (Mr. Sensitive Guy of the 1980s era) found out a friend of his actually *was* a mysterious "ski mask" rapist who was terrorizing the hospital months earlier. Davey Johnson was a cool guy, as the manager, but that team was out of control with the drugs. C- Gary Carter 1B- Keith Hernandez 2B- Wally Backman 3B- Howard Johnson SS- Rafael Santana OF- Kevin McReynolds OF- Lenny Dykstra OF- Darryl Strawberry -Tim Teuffel and Gregg Jefferies were notables on that squad. Kevin Mitchell was a notable on the '86 squad because he was so irascible due to his drug use.

I could have made the same point by saying, "I'll make XXX offer for anything you can get into your car in one load without a hoist." Get stuff for yourself, first, and put it in your car. Wrong about Bobby Murcer. He was traded back to the Yankees for a minor league guy who never made it to the big times.
My very bad memory recalls this guy's name was Joseph "Chicago Style Deep Dish" Piazza. Don't trust me on this but please do look it up on your own. Posted by: Tim in Illinois Even Coffee won't make it better. at May 14, 2016 04:22 AM (WVsWD) 688
I would have liked to think that it was Bob Gibson, because he was a mean son-of-a-bitch who owned the outside of the plate.

I wanna go back to the days when someone smuggled a transistor radio into math class so we could listen to the World Series. Remember that? The teacher wanted to listen as badly as we did so he said "Keep it down!" The principal walked the halls, peering into each classroom to see where the contraband radios were.
{sigh} Good times. Posted by: creeper at May 14, 2016 04:27 AM (ghfOx) 696
All I said was that Murcer was not on the 1980 team. So my analysis was also correct.

-Posted by: creeper at May 14, 2016 04:42 AM (ghfOx) Here's something that even Stat-Geeks Weird-Out over... If a pitcher goes six innings and gives up three runs, it is considered a "Quality Start". That means a 4.50 ERA. (Earned Run Average). A pitcher's ERA is "What he would give-up during a nine-inning outing." It is considered a "Quality Start" because only one-third of the League averages more than 4.5 Runs per game. So... Pitcher's ERA: 4.50- average *meh* 4.00- #4 Starter 3.50- #2 Starter 3.00- #1 Starter/ "Ace" Under 3.00 is a League Ace and probably on his way to the Hall of Fame.
