Andrea Tarantos Missing in Action at Fox; Chatter of National Review Conspiracies
This is what I call the Social Justice Warriorfication of the right.
Social Justice Warrioring -- identity politics -- posits as a central tenet that the tribe is pure and, more importantly, the other tribes are wicked and full of deceit and evil.
There is always some conspiracy by the other tribes afoot; their sorcerers are always working their dark magic.
Islamists are very sure that Muslim economies would be potent, if not for Jewish machinations and their strange magic of argentomancy. Black radicals are very certain that the CIA is smuggling crack into Compton and every black failure is rooted in "white supremacy." Feminists know the Patriarchy is powerful, terrifying, and full of rape.
And in some quarters on the right, this very same The Other Tribes Are All Scheming Against me thinking is not only indulged, but encouraged as the properly righteous mode of thought.
No, Andrea Tantaros, Charles Cooke was not trying to get you fired, and other people were not goofing on you because you're a "girl."
Embarrassing.
The National Review Cabal -- who of course has outsized (Jew-sized) influence at FoxNews-- must be trying to get her fired for being Too Right or "a girl."
This isn't just about Tarantos' claim -- I know some very, um, energetic Trump supporters are pushing this "Charles Cooke schemed to get Andrea Tarantos fired" line.
While not cited by FNC as a reason for her extended vacation, Tantaros recently claimed during a taping of Outnumbered that certain GOP Establishment-types were coming down hard on her for supporting Donald Trump; "They have been doing this. Specifically, Charles Cooke, who is a writer for National Review, he tweeted out that I should give my job to somebody else. Also, I saw a tweet, it was a meme by Kevin Williamson of National Review trying to make me seem stupid. There’s a girl talking about biorhythms, or something. So I’ve gotten my fair share as well from folks on the right and the left and in the media calling me stupid and Trump supporters as well… Exactly I should give up my job according to men in the Republican Party."
That's a left-wing feminist type of line -- the boys are out to get me because I'm "a girl"! -- and like most things left-wing feminists claim, it's bonkers.
Charles Cooke didn't try to get her fired or suggest she should lose her job in earnest. He replied to her claim that the entire structure of the conservative movement had accomplished absolutely nothing; to which Cooke replied, basically, well if that's true, and you're a part of that failed structure, you should probably do something else, huh?
He wasn't trying to get her fired or even suggest she should actually quit: He was trying to get her to examine her own over-statement, and think about the implications of so broad a claim.
I have no idea what the Wiliamson thing is about, but as it has the same pedigree as the Cooke lunacy, I tend to doubt it.
I notice this a lot in people, and frankly, in a lot of "conservative" women -- the grasping at these idiotic left-wing feminist tropes -- boys out to get me; they fear a strong woman, etc. -- when it's useful in an argument.
It's unprincipled, it's stupid, it's looney-tunes conspiracy thinking, and it's certainly not conservative.
This sort of conspiracy theory appeals to the weak and powerless, or at least those who don't have as much power as they think they ought to have. People who have a sense that their own world is beyond their control tend to find a conspiracy theory explaining the secret hands that work the gears and levers of the world empowering, in a sad way. People who feel more personal control over their own world know the world doesn't work like that.
"The Establishment" is a real thing, and it does have far too much power, and it must be chastened, but it is now an all-purpose left-wing identity-politics scare-figure and Conspiracy Theory Boogeyman to explain away every event that happens in the world.
Here's what I know about Charles Cooke (and all of National Review for that matter):
1. They don't have any particular power at Fox. They are occasional guests. They have the same power over Fox that, say, Scottie Nell Hughes has.
2. Charles Cooke does not give a shit about Andrea Tanataros' contract with Fox or any disputes that might be ongoing.
3. Stupid people leap to stupid reasons to explain things they don't have answers for, instead of just saying 'I don't know" like an intelligent person.
I don't know what's going on with Tantaros' contract or her book -- and neither do the leftwing/rightwing identity-politics race-powerists who think they pretty much know it all.
Note: I am indebted to Christina Hoff Sommers for pointing out that every identity politics cult is just a conspiracy theory with a racial (or gender) edge.

I haven't watched anything on Fox since I dropped my cable, but they have been moving left for a few years now. Tantaros was probably the last real conservative on Fox and if she has been shit-canned I would suspect Fox did it and the RNCe spokespeople of NRO had nothing to do with it.

I don't think this particular issue with Tantaros is tribalism . It's an actual real life disagreement with others in the same medium about what she does for a living . It's not off base to believe the people who are in disagreement with you may swing some influence against you. Until such time that an explanation is given for her extended vacation is given, I have no problem with her complaints. On the other hand , I believe owners / management should be able to fire people for any reason other than the standard gender, race, creed or color.

That's not a "feminist" complaint. I don't doubt that people called her stupid ... because she really isn't that bright - though I think she's okay, anyway. Maybe the "It's because I'm a woman" part is somewhere else because it ain't in that little clip of hers.
I have little doubt that Fox would try to dump her for her pro-Trump position. They threw Beck off when he attacked their favorite positions - and Beck had one of the most watched Fox shows at the time. That's when I stopped watching Fox.

The pro-amnesty types use the same kind of tactics against the anti-amnesty types - calling them racist, nazi, etc.
The #nevertrump movement has moved into this territory as well - calling anyone who doesn't agree stupid, weak-minded, cultish, racist, etc. If I had a dime for every hysterical piece claiming Trump will be a "dictator" or "strong-man" and that he "won't listen to anyone", I'd be rich by now.
Almost everyone devolves down to a leftist "argument" when they are against something and not winning. It only gets worse if you have no actual factual/logical arguments to present, which is why this type of "argumentation" is relied on so heavily by the left. But, it is hardly exclusive to the left. I've even caught myself falling into it at times- it's a human nature thing - to assign to your opponent evil motives, etc.

Almost. The big problem is that all of these publications from center --> right are located in the northeast corridor. It's all policy, 24/7. Washington this, politicians that. Things are so bad that the best thing we can hope for this election cycle is a holding action. ACA-uninsured working people took a hit this year because of the penalty escalation. All that does is accelerate the number of people working for cash and reducing the number of people stuck with paying into the system.

There are basically no politicians willing to implement them. And, no electing one constitutional conservative to the white house that then has a built in excuse of 'congress won't cooperate' isn't a solution.
Hence a lot of us are trying something else.

While this is a pretty similar reaction to the leftist worldivew in general, I don't think we need to go any further than that. Group politics can get nasty enough on their own, without having to drag ideologies into it.

112Social Justice Warrioring -- identity politics -- posits as a central tenet that the tribe is pure and, more importantly, the other tribes are wicked and full of deceit and evil.
SJWing may be considered a subset of identity politics, but there's more to it than that.
There are 3 observed behaviors true of SJWs:
1. SJWs always lie
2. SJWs alwayd double down
3. SJWs always project
They lie, they continue to lie when called out, and the lies they tell reflect what they internally think and believe, projected onto others.
So the Communist lies about the nature of economics and labor, is immune to correction, and posits a Capitalist Conspiracy to keep Labor workers down; when he himself is the sort to murder people on an industrial scale.

Outnumbered was very pro-Trump today, so this "she was kicked out for being pro-Trump" theory seems pretty limp to me.
I
read one tweet a while ago about "someone" at Outnumbered getting
Jedidiah Bila canned as a rotating host (it was originally
Smith/Faulkner near daily with Tantaros, Guilfoyle, Bila, Pavlich and
Powers as semi-regulars before Tantaros became the 3rd regular).
Then
last Tuesday when Andrea was out the first time, Jedidiah was there (I
think Tuesday; could've been Wednesday). If it was Andrea who got Bila
canned from that (and Smith/Faulkner were on this episode), then putting Jedidiah on Tuesday was a big, but
subtle, middle finger from Fox. I hadn't seen Bila on Outnumbered for a
long long time.
That's pure gossip of course from a source I
don't know if I trust or not. But I read that rumor about Bila a few
months ago and was wondering who it supposedly was.

or maybe stepping up for a convicted rapist should be called black knighting?
The Jews ARE pulling shenanigans with Muslim countries to some extent, maybe not The Protocols of the Elders of Zion-level, but the arm of Mossad is long (hello stuxnet) because they remember 1967 and they're sick of having their children killed on school buses and having to shoot rockets out of the sky.
There is no major anti-drug initiative by US law enforcement (and in the age of mass surveillance it's laughable that there isn't) precisely because the US black community has made a deal with the New Society devil and large "markets" of
Feminism is predicated on an assumption of victimhood which makes feminazis reactive in public situations and men are patronizing as a result because there's no other way to handle someone who acts like that.
There's a seed of truth to every conspiracy theory, and its adoption by more than a fringe, single-digit percentage of a population makes it a self-fulfilling prophecy.
By moving against "establishment" cabals - and, going beyond what is required for purposes of demagoguery, naming them - the populist movement which has coalesced around Trump has cemented the opposition of groups like NRO and made themselves more hysterical than they need be.
And (AND!) though I'm not going to disagree with your premise that Charles CW Cooke was personally behind this firing of Tantaros, it also leads to real opposition from said groups. I'm not saying it causes it - chicken, egg, whatever. But these lines are drawn, even if Ms Tarantula is really just venting like a spurned employee.
Our culture encourages a victim mentality at all levels. Yes it has seeped into the right. That's part of what makes this election so urgent.
124
Name is vaguely familiar. She's some eye candy, er, commentator on Fox or something. Couldn't pick her out of a line-up (but that's true of 90% of pop "culture" figures and, now, "news" types, probably).
Ace's larger point isn't large enough. The pageantry of Teh Stupid in the country/culture this cycle has broken new ground.
Trump is a racist, a fascist, it's scary that he might have access to the nuke codes. Ignorant, pathetic silliness.
Trump might not get the nom because it will be "stolen" cuz the nomination process isn't a simple majority thing, this indirect democracy stuff isn't fair or American eleventy!!!! Politicking for support/delegates as has been done since forever is "unfair!". Ignorant, pathetic silliness.
And I've just covered a few of the low-points offered up by the *less* stupid, *less* un-American/alien, *less* contemptible section of the electorate and the punditariat. Outlook is grim.

127
Ace, I'm going to try one more time. There really is such a thing as a conspiracy; any time two or more people perform a criminal act together - it is a conspiracy. Surely as a Lawyer you understand this. It is not a loony, unsophisticated, low level troglodyte analysis to say that 9/11 was the result of a conspiracy.
One of things that is learned in college is to look down one's nose at people who believe in conspiracies. This gives the person who has that view a sense of superiority to those who don't - allowing the college educated to see themselves as more sophisticated and superior to the simple rubes who believe in conspiracies.
The real problem is that because there really is such a thing as a conspiracy - the world becomes complicated. One has to decide - on a case by case basis - is it reasonable that there is a conspiracy at work, or is it one of Ayn Rand's "conspiracy of cockroaches" where people of like mind aren't conspiring but appear to be because of similar goals. Or, is it more likely that something which has occurred is the result of simple human blundering.
Sorry the world is complex, and those questions have to be asked and answered - otherwise people who deny the existence of all conspiracies become fools for those who exploit the blind spot which occurs without close case by case examination.

I wrote this back in January:
"Rupert Murdoch doesn't want Trump to win. He's been sitting in on Roger Ailes' super-secret high level news planning meetings lately. Megyn gave prominent coverage to National Review's hit piece on Trump last week. Tomorrow, Fox was going to have an Islamic militant phone in with questions, the same one who's compared Trump to Hitler.
"So Murdoch and Fox were intent on sandbagging Trump tomorrow [with Megyn]. His best move was not to show up."
You could also see it in WSJ stories back in January, including stories based on misleading commissioned polls.
By March Murdoch had given up on beating on Trump, and said that the GOP should unify if he kept winning.

Thought it was interesting that news of her disappearance from Fox came right after her 'Children of the Corn' comment about Carly's bizarre song at a Cruz event. Guess she hit too close to home and some Never Trumpers wanted her gone.
I like Andrea. I hope she finds a new home soon...maybe as a spokesperson/media expert for the Trump campaign? She has a large male following.

One was worthy of endless white knighting. One has been unpersonned.
Michelle Fields wasn't white knighted. What actually happened was people criticized the way Trump's campaign handled the situation and for want of a simple apology turned a nothing into an issue.
The only people who thought white knighting was going on were Trump supporters bound and determined to trash her to protect Trump.

A lot of people who claim membership on the political right have grown quite comfortable lodging SJW style accusations against other conservatives. It used to be we'd do that shit in jest to point out leftist hypocrisy, but a large number have found the power of the slur to be too intoxicating to refrain from wielding seriously. It's mostly the anti-woman charge, but soon it will be the various and sundry other "phobias". I was really hoping to out-live the moment the United States of America became a nation of narcissistic excuse-making buck-passers, but it didn't happen. I wish I had been born 30 years earlier.

No, we haven't. Nothing has been decided. Nothing will be decided after November, 2016, either.
The Left is on the defensive. They always squeal louder when challenged. The Republican Party, for all of its faults, can still muster an acceptable slate of presidential candidates; men and women, each of whom is far more qualified and competent to be POTUS than the current president and the two goofballs running for the Dem nomination.

MichelleFields you are totally delusional. I never touched you. As a matter of fact, I have never even met you
Posted by: JackStraw at May 02, 2016 03:09 PM (/tuJf)
3 claims of Fields -
1. You are delusional (subjective opinion)
2. I never touched you (in reaction to article claim that he tried to throw her to the ground; in context, [in that way] can be inferred)
3. I have never met you (can be understood in the sense of not knowing her, not having her acquantance; doesn't know who this girl making a fuss is)
You can call all 3 lies, in that Fields is not clinically insane, Corey did touch her, and that the touching represents a meeting. Or you can call all 3 not-lies, because there's still alternate meanings that are not false.
As we perform this exercise, let me note that this is freaking twitter, where you throw out short thoughts limited to 140 characters.

Rape cases defy many of the basic principles of criminal law, including on the key element of intent. For many crimes, the judge or jury are asked to look inside the head of the perpetrator. If he intended to kill, it's murder. If not, the same act may only be manslaughter.
With rape, judge or jury are asked to look inside the head of the victim: did she consent?

Mike Tyson is a crazy person with serious mental issues. For all that, this is Trump coming to the aide of a recently rehabilitated (Hangover 2) public figure who is
-Black
-himself an enigma
-an athletic all-timer
-convicted of rape, for which he served 3 years of a 6 year sentence
This is the intersection of race, crime and rape, and Trump will dominate the news cycle and win with it. Why? Because Tyson is a sympathetic figure to the US public.
If you still, after everything that has transpired, think Donald Trump just says whatever, off the cuff, without thinking, you're going to have a very unpleasant 2016.

If you think the Clinton Dirt Machine won't be able to find anything on Ted Cruz, the NY Slimes gave a hint with a piece on Rafael Cruz Sr's involvement with Mannotech.
The MSM had a field day with a backwater congressmen like Todd Aiken demanding that Romney disavow a guy he'd maybe met once.
Think when Pastor Cruz's over the top dominionism and other snake handler type stuff comes out they won't badger his son with everything the guy has said for the last 50 years? Todd Aiken just happened to belong to the same party as Romney, Cruz's dad is actively campaigning with and for him.

No, you most definitely don't get it. I have said repeatedly that what I don't like about Trump is that he changes his positions constantly. He's gone from being a lifelong liberal Democrat to holding positions on things like abortion which are to the right of just about everyone. It doesn't pass the laugh test.
He rails against illegals while hiring them to build his hotels. He talks about balancing the budget and increasing spending on the military without touching entitlements. Please note, this is impossible.
I don't hate Trump. I'm not terribly fond of him and I do not want him to be President. I'm pretty sure I'm still allowed to not like certain candidates.
But Trump supporters always insist anyone who doesn't blindly support Trump hates him for irrational reasons. If that makes it easier for you to justify Trump have at it.

I'm giving Tantaros a pass on this--and not because she reminds me of an ex-girlfriend--and I put her complaint next to the comment Clarence Thomas made about a "high-tech lynching." Both are comments are designed to throw the opponents off-guard, and while somewhat "low", they are usually effective.
And while I've never been a big conspiracy guy and usually agree with ace, I happen to believe Andrea on this. She is conservative, she's a fighter--okay, she's a bitch in high heels--and she's pro-Trump, and it wouldn't surprise me that the NRO bunch and others want her out...

And yet every Trump supporter thinks the Fields issue became news in a
vacuum. They spin or ignore or dismiss all the issues of Trump's
innuendo for violence that preceded the incident. --- We don't do anything of the sort.
We recognize that there was a concerted effort by the gope, and those with interests in alignment with theirs, to otherize Trump (and his supporters) by fabricating the idea that he's a fascist thug with violent supporters who are all wannabe nazis. Based on entirely appropriate reactions to leftists disrupting his campaign events. The Fields event was the lynchpin of their fantasy, and the way it blew up in their faces is a large part of the reason he's immune from criticism today.

Someone is going to put a compilation of articles that were artfully written, somewhat in competition with one another by right wing east coast writers trying to show how they could manipulate the words and facts to glean a headline closest to "Trump Rips Woman's Arm Off".

@305
Well Argh Argh
Spend much time outside?
There are almost always contrails behind a jet.
Thing is normal contrails evaporate fairly quickly as the jet flies along.
Countless times I've seen this then all of the sudden the contrail quits evaporating. Across most of the visible sky then starts evaporating again. What's left where it didn't starts unfurling for lack of a better word. Other jets join in and in an hour or so a blue sky is now totally grayed out.
Have also seen a lot of them stop, start, start up again full on.
Guess the jet engine quit for a second a couple of times eh?
And by th he way, the proper technical term is geoengineering.
I've spent a lot of time outside, and never observed what you describe. I'm not saying your eyes are lying. So let me assume you are exactly correct in your observation, that therefore the contrails must be artificial, and that they do represent geoengineering.
- To what end?
- Who's paying for it?
- What's the chemical?
- What are its density and vapor pressure? (Answer the previous one and I'll look them up.)
- How much coverage would you need to achieve the desired effect?
- We're probably talking about some serious cargo here. Are passenger flights hauling this extra weight, or are special cargo flights designated for this purpose?
- If not passenger flights: Civilian, or military? If military, where is the DoD getting all these assets? (Ever been involved in planning a mission requiring airlift support? They don't have all the capacity they could ever ask for just to do the missions we all know about.)
- Either way, the plane is going to have to be modified to dispense this cargo. That kind of thing leaves records.
- A whole lot of people are going to have to be in the know one way or another.
- Is this just over the US, or does it happen elsewhere as well?
Bottom line: I'm going to need something a little more specific before I buy into this theory. Not saying it's not possible, just that I have no reason to believe it yet.

There's a flip side to that. Your conspiracy-theory-hobbyist

Also it's tennis with the net down. There's no disproving any

whereas conspiracy hobbyists' creations tend to be the philosophical

"Of course there are
conspiracies in the world." Admitting that will get you kicked out of the superior thinkers club.
Let me see if I understand: A false conspiracy theory is one that can't be disproved - while an actual conspiracy is one that can be disproved. So if you can prove no conspiracy existed - that was an actual conspiracy. Very nuanced thinking there.
Posted by: An Observation at May 02, 2016 06:20 PM (aQqA3)
"Admitting that will get you kicked out of the superior thinkers club."
Well, see, that's my whole objection to most conspiracies: Assuming things you don't need to assume. I don't consider myself part of a superior thinkers' club. Wouldn't want to join one if it existed.
"Let me see if I understand: A false conspiracy theory is one that can't be disproved - while an actual conspiracy is one that can be disproved."
If that's what you think I meant, I wrote even more unclearly than I thought. I already goofed, writing hastily, first saying they can't be disproven, then using falsifiability as a criterion for plausible versus implausible conspiracy.
A real conspiracy, in my highly flawed, non-superior view, is one that could be disproven if it were untrue. And if it doesn't get disproven, then it may be true.
If it would be impossible to disprove a conspiracy if it weren't true - and for your a lot of the best theories out there, it would be - then it's not even wrong. It belongs to the infinite number of theories that *could* be true if I had more information. I'm not obligated or inclined to believe them until I do.
"So if you can prove no conspiracy existed - that was an actual conspiracy."
No. Again: If you can prove it existed, it did. If you *could* readily disprove it if it were untrue, I'll entertain it until it is disproven, and if it stands up substantively to numerous good attempts to refute, I'll tend to believe it. If it can't be proved or disproven, my life's too short. Your leisure time is your business.
"Very nuanced thinking there."
I don't claim it is. It works for me, as far as it goes. Your results may vary, and I guess do.

The vague reason given for the disappearance of Tantaros from the Fox News screen is "contractual issues".
I suspect what this means is that her contract has a clause obligating her not to denigrate political causes favored by the folks who run Fox News. A "don't bite the hand that feeds you" sort of clause.
Fox News is generally anti-Trump. They do try to live up to their "Fair and Balanced" slogan, so show hosts are allowed to say nice things about Trump, which is why Sean Hannity and Lou Dobbs still have their jobs; while they do tend to say nice things about Trump, neither of them has actually come out and officially endorsed Trump. They tend to say nice things about Cruz and Kasich, too.
Tantaros, though, is an outspoken, official Trump supporter. I think this is the reason they're finding her to be possibly in violation of her contract, and responding by basically giving her a "time-out".
Fox News is softening a bit in its anti-Trump stance these days, but still isn't really prepared to let a full-on Trump supporter on the air. I expect that they'll let her back on the air once Trump has clinched the nomination, which will allow their "Fair and Balanced" branding to apply specifically to the binary choice of Trump vs. Hillary.
