I've crunched the numbers and frankly had to go searching for 36-40 (I only had 35).

But if my math is accurate, these are the top 40 Prince songs.

40. When Doves Cry (PR)

2 I've heard two of them in my life, that I'm aware of. Points for the effort put into the show, but I just never "got" him, the same way I never "got" Elvis.

3 I take it Ace really liked Prince.

5 If a single song on this list came on the radio, I'd hit the channel button so fast my hand would be a blur. Blecchhh. I want to play some Sabbath as a palate cleanser, just from having read it.

But to each his own.

6 Meh. Ace's purely subjective ranking.

Meh to the nth.

Putting "When Doves Cry" at the bottom is the tip-off.

Let the inconsequential ranking arguments begin!!

14 I'd put Let's Go Crazy before I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man, but then I'd be complaining about free ice cream and I try not to do that ... At least not until after I eat said ice cream.

Vanilla, Tangerine, and Shortbread Hagen Daaz is pretty tasty. Just sayin'.

15 Top 40 Prince Songs

Most of those songs I've never heard of. Prince songs don't bother me, though I would generally switch the station if one came on.

Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair at April 21, 2016 06:32 PM (zc3Db)

16 "Doves" is a great song, but I totally get hating it (one of the benefit of being a punk in the 80's and 90's is that I didn't get burned out on the good parts of the 80's and 90's).

Prince was awesome. Fucking awesome.

17 The Tom Jones cover of "Kiss" is pretty groovy too.

18 Yeah I respect Prince as an artist and influence, and like a few of his songs but not this many. Maybe 5. I think I could list 40 Allman Brothers songs I love though.

36 Princes madman omfg guitar performance on While My Guitar Gently Weeps at the George Harrison memorial gig featuring an all-star lineup including ELO's Jeff Lynn and Tom Petty was one of the greatest things Ive ever seen in 40 years as a deidciated rock and roll fan.

I always thought that if Prince had ever done an entire album of unmistakable Rock and Roll songs, it would have been a Desert Island disc for sure.

Its been a hella sad year for music already and we're not even in May yet.

Clapton, Jeff Beck, Paul, Ringo, Plant, Paige, Daltrey, Townshend are at least 70 years old. Steve Tyler and Joe Walsh are 68, Joe Perry is 65.

When any one of these blokes goes he will take a gigantic chunk of my youth with him.

Dudes better eat they spinach and take they 1-a-day's.

Sinead's version is one of those songs that gets imprinted on your mind when it's playing in the background of, shall we say, a very pleasurable experience. Sadly, no sex per se, but an extended make out session with a gorgeous redhead. I would have easily fallen for her for many reasons, but somehow it never went beyond that first encounter.

67 I mentioned this on the dead Prince thread... sorry.. the thread that is dead about Prince (who is also dead). But regarding ELO and disco, that came later (with A New World Record, largely).

Anyone who listens to the classic Progressive Rock album Eldorado and hears disco needs their ears checked.

Posted by: Rusty Nail at April 21, 2016 06:44 PM (S2VsH)

68 Per Wikipedia: "Prince performed the song as a live duet with Rosie Gaines, subsequently released on his 1993 compilations The Hits/The B-Sides and The Hits 1. Prince also recorded a solo version of the song for his concert film, Rave Un2 the Year 2000, as well as for his 2002 live album, One Nite Alone... Live!"

69 I knew him back when. I used to play basketball with him in the Parking Lot of Park Ave Church in South Minneapolis. My Brother was more friendly with him as he was closer to his age. He was a weird little dude. I loved everything he ever did as it was fun to watch his career take off. I even tried to serve him a Subpoena in a Paternity case that he was involved in. Impossible. I ran into his bodyguard, Chick, and that is where converstations ended. He was a musical and marketing genius the likes of which we might never see again. RIP Prince Rogers Nelson

One of my favs, when young. Felix produced Cream's albums. Leslie couldn't play fast, but he could milk a note. Drummer Corky Laing was a notorious wild man, and I thought a cave man until I saw an interview where was he surprisingly erudite. Not necessarily. A friend of mine in Germany got the flu a couple of months ago and was hospitalized for four days. He's in his early 40s and decent shape. It was just a killer flu.

101 Listening to people who knew Prince calling in to Neal Cavuto's show, they all said what a nice, down-to-earth, no-ego, friendly guy he was.

As I mentioned in the last thread, the guy who founded My Pillow was at a party a few years ago, and enjoyed talking with a nice, young man.

Didn't find out till later it was Prince.

He did some RenFaire stuff in the late 70s in MPLS.. Trick longbow shots, mandolin playing, playing a modified electric longbow as a one string tub thumping kind of bass, madrigals.

Good stuff.

I never bothered to concern myself with the difference, because I get sick so rarely, but the last few years I've gotten flu vaccines because some work places make it as close to mandatory as they possibly can.

Must say, my once-a-season fever/cough/runny nose combo, are either much less, or like this year, non-existent.

So I don't know. Flu messes up some people bad. Not me. But I have an iron tight immune system. People with compromised immune systems (HIV, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis) though, look out.

Lelle, I got religion on that one but good. I never got flu shots until . . .

A friend's neighbor was so healthy it was insane; he was a professional dancer and fit as could be. Healthy diet, healthy habits, the works.

One year he kept putting off getting his flu shot, which he normally did every year, and boom -- he fell sick, doctors couldn't figure out what it was. Very weird illness, and he kept sinking and sinking. After about 7 days he died.

Turns out it was the flu. The reason they couldn't figure it out was, he was so sick he should by rights have dropped dead on Day 1 or 2, but he was so healthy his body kept him alive way beyond his kill date and they couldn't figure out why one system after another was shutting down.

I figured if that guy could die of the flu, anyone could. I've been getting flu shots since, and proselytizing for them.

That's the rumor anyway.

This seems unlikely.

People forget a few things:

1.)Flu is dangerous. When they tell you, "go home, stay in bed" they mean it. Prince, being on the workaholic side (as are most successful people in the private sector) did not do that. He'd been traveling and performing.

2.)Other bad, bad things (that are not HIV or drug-related) can present with flu-like symptoms until shit suddenly hits the fan.

226 Not specifically related to Prince and the flu, but who here has noticed some interesting strains of the flu and other maladies over the past few years?

I've had friends and family get a really bad flue this winter, the kind that last 3 weeks. Also going around was a nasty GI infection (which spoiled my Christmas). I'm guessing that with all of our new friends from other countries that we're being exposed to different bugs, like the EV-68, that we haven't been exposed to before. It's a natural consequence of the mass population movement that has been happening here and in Europe...

I posted this late to the earlier thread and will repost here:

Rest In Peace, Prince.

Escorted a beautiful woman to his Purple Rain movie when it was first released. We were in Seattle- I was in the Navy, she was local- and it was our third date so of course I was hoping this would be "the night".

It was.

She, I, we, had a magical evening. A night I will never forget. Prince provided the soudtrack for many magical nights for many couples, I'd imagine.

I was listening to KLOS 95.5 (Southern California rock music station) during lunch time and the dj was interviewing Lenny Kravitz. The dj asked Lenny Kravitz what caused the death of Prince and Lenny Kravitz stated that he had an idea, but did not want to say it on-air. There was also a BlindGossip.com item listed earlier this week; it stated that a prominent African American celebrity had AIDS and had been taking medication for it for years. Apparently religious leaders told him he was "cured" and he quit taking the medicine. He then became deathly ill and was expected to pass away soon. Now, I would not be surprised if he did die of AIDS, nor would I care. The man was a gifted musician and a huge influence culturally for those of us coming of age in the 80s. And I'm sorry..."Housequake" should be on that list.

Prince was treated for a drug overdose 6 days before his death ... multiple sources tell TMZ.

We broke the story ... Prince's private jet made an emergency landing in Moline, Illinois last Friday, hours after he performed in Atlanta. At the time his reps said he was battling the flu ... something we questioned because his plane was only 48 minutes from home before the unscheduled landing.

Multiple sources in Moline tell us, Prince was rushed to a hospital and doctors gave him a "save shot" ... typically administered to counteract the effects of an opiate.

Our sources further say doctors advised Prince to stay in the hospital for 24 hours. His people demanded a private room, and when they were told that wasn't possible ... Prince and co. decided to bail. The singer was released 3 hours after arriving and flew home.

We're told when Prince left he "was not doing well."
We know authorities in Minnesota are trying to get the hospital records from Moline to help determine cause of death.

I'll tell ya what, Ronald Reagan never listened to Prince.

Posted by: ace at April 21, 2016 09:39 PM (dciA+)

394 i ran the numbers again and Let's Go Crazy moved up the list, Alphabet Street moved back, and some minor songs moved back so that I Wanna Be Your Lover could move up.
