2 Good Morning Morons. Today is Sunday, April 17, 2016. On this day in 1964 the Ford Mustang was first introduced to the buying public and the pony car era was born. The first model had an anemic 6 cylinder engine. The next year introduced the 289 which was a much stronger engine.

81 Good morning Hordelings! This is Sunday Praise and Worship for Sunday, April 17th. This piece, "Joyful Joyful We Adore You", is based on Beethoven's "Ode to Joy", and was brought to my mind in part because my 6 year old granddaughter has just learned to play this on her violin for a talent competition at her school.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsBtbCMSY-w

This particular version of the old traditional hymn is sung here by Casting Crowns:

"Joyful, joyful we adore Thee.
God of glory, Lord of love.
Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee,
opening to the sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness.
Drive the dark of doubt away.
Giver of immortal gladness,
fill us with the light of day!"

Listening to my granddaughter play this, I got inspired to make some wall art to take along with me to my new house. It came yesterday, and I like how it turned out.

First year for the Fox body, the best one of that bunch IMO was the Pace Car edition (turbo 4). They still had the fairly anemic 140 HP 2bbl 302 V8, but the lighter turbo 4 matched its performance (as long as it wasn't on fire, big problem for the early turbo 4's). It wasn't till 83 when the GT got a 4bbl that the car really came alive.

Lots of people slam the Mustang II (it wasn't based on a Pinto, no matter what is said; put them side by side and the size difference alone is apparent), but the biggest reason there aren't very many of them left is the hot rodders bought them up and stole the front suspensions off of them. It wasn't a bad car for its time, but as you pointed out, it was a pretty bad time for American cars.

I have a 96 F-150. It has been extremely reliable. I recall a Consumer Reports article where they compared and road tested the three major brands full size pickup trucks. They started the article with a comment about the F-150. "There is a reason there are more Ford pickup trucks on the road than any other vehicle". Needless to say they rated the F-150 the best of them all. The only gripe they had was the gas mileage. CR had already started going "green" then. If you want good gas mileage don't buy a real pickup truck.

Believe it or not, the Omni based Rampage pickup could out-accelerate a Z-28 when it was introduced in 1982. Even though it only had a 2.2 liter 4 cylinder it was so light it had a favorable HP/weight ratio.

The last "real" pickup I had was a '62 Chevy C-10 with a transplanted 350/TH350 combination from a Malibu. Ten MPG, no matter what, it could be pulling a trailer fully loaded or rolling down the road completely empty. I miss that truck sometimes, it was an ill-tempered beast but I loved it.

172 Obama is throwing your money at a case he has already lost in circuit court and the TX court of appeals, which he had ignored. Now that SCOTUS is short of Scalia it is likely to be a tied case in which the lower court rulings will still apply.

This will be the pattern now. Use one of the liberal circuit courts, then when the case is appealed to SCOTUS, it will deadlock, and the lower court ruling will then stand.

210 To Chicago, for to eat... I weighed 25 pounds more when I lived in Chicago, due partly to drink but mostly to the food. One caveat: I haven't been back since late '07, but the three places I'll suggest will not have changed much.

1) La Scarola on Grand just east of Halsted is as old-school Italian as one could hope for. Just go. It's at the east edge of the real Little Italy, which was centered on Grand between Ashland and Halsted. You're quite safe there, and you'll leave happy.

2) The Twisted Spoke, Grand and Ogden. It's a biker-ish bar with great food; their Bloody Marys and breakfasts are legendary curatives for Chicagoans of all stripes. Look for the skeleton atop an ancient Indian motorcycle, revolving on an old gas-station signpost out front.

3) The ultimate sammich, ever: The "Gym Shoe" at Stony Sub. The 'hood is marginal at best, but I'd take my chances for this thing: http://dnain.fo/1Vu66qL

4) Manny's Deli, Roosevelt near Clark. Pastrami sammiches. Latkes. Lots of other stuff, but who cares?

When Chicago is bad, it's horrible, but when you catch Chicago at it's best, it's the greatest city in America. It has everything NY has, at a friendlier midwestern pace, the drivers are better and much nicer, and best of all, no New Yorkers (sorry, JJ)

Huma et. al. need these dates urgently so they can schedule some unexpected emergencies.

216 So, evening approaches, and I get the same feeling I did back in middle school--tomorrow, back into the lion's den.

I'm sure at work they feel they have the upper hand, but there is an old saying, slightly paraphrased--if you try to kill someone who could be king, make sure you kill someone who could be king. Especially if you are doing things in a way that won't be supported once it gets to HR. Or some flag officer who wants to talk to a dude about something else.

I find it amazing I get more respect and courtesy from current flightsuits at the Weapons Schools than folks who have never seen the inside of a jet. Arrogance of a clique.
