3 Good Morning Morons. Today is Thursday, April 14, 2016. On this day in 1828 Noah Webster copyrighted the first edition of his dictionary. Now a word is not really considered a word unless it is in Webster's Dictionary.

5 Scankles at yet another typical campaign pandering event promised an immigrant action group she would create another federal bureaucrat office to help immigrates "assimilate". Funny we never had any problems with them assimilating in the 1800s when Ellis Island was in full swing. But her critics should know that she is a chronic liar and this plan would have never come to life.

14 The NC governor tried to explain the new NC law that all the liberals and stupid companies bowing to pressure from the Gaystapo are so hot about (phony outrage). But as usual none of the liberal action groups are buying it. The heart of the matter boils down to the provision that prevents the Gaystapo from targeting religious people with bankruptcy inducing lawfare.

15 Cop pulled over a speeder doing 171 mph in a Camaro SS in MN. I know the old high HP Mustangs used to have speed limiters on their electronic ignition to prevent them from going over 120 mph and I had assumed that Camaros would have too. But like a friend of mine who had a Ford high power F-150 did, he probably got an after market electronic ignition that had no limiter.

I had heard the number of actual American who paid no income tax was 51% but that was during the Bush tax cut years, which Obama eliminated. I view this as an America collapsing socialist nightmare. I still think we need a constitutional amendment to get rid of that BS "poll and other tax" statement in a faulty previous amendment and make actually paying taxes a requirement to vote. The old "no taxation without representation" myth should be accompanied by no representation without taxation to balance the sheets. IOW the FSA should not be able to vote themselves bread and circuses paid for by somebody else.

At the risk of offending people, I find liberals are more fundamentalist than the most devout fundamentalists Christians. At least the latter live in and deal with real world situations in a reality based manner.

Just like Islam, Leftism is a complete detachment from reality and an insistence that others conform to their worldview under pain of death.

Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes. Thanks for the news, Vic.

I've read this story before, and it's been attributed to a number of Hollywood lovelies commenting wryly on the fickleness of man:

It seems there was a young Lothario who spied a beautiful maiden on the high road and began to dog her footsteps, whispering sweet nothings for mile after mile. Finally, she turned around and asked, "Why are you following me?"

"Because," he breathed passionately, "you are the loveliest woman I have ever seen and I have fallen madly in love with you at first sight. I beg you, be mine!"

The girl shook her head. "But you only have to look behind you to see my sister, who is ten times more beautiful than I am."

Instantly, the smitten Romeo whirled around, only to see an ugly, misshapen old crone following behind. Turning back to his lovely maid, he cried, "You lied!"

"So did you,"
she answered. "If you were so madly in love with me, why did you turn around?"

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

48 A rant that seems to make no sense:

Well, time to go to work, where some people need to decide whether they are going to either check in their egos, or their jobs in the out years. Because I don't think the service is going to be very happy about its work culture being badmouthed as a case of "when folks talk about overly male cultures in engineering, and unwelcoming work environments, let me give you an example."

I mean, I can't think of anything that will go over less well with certain folks with certain time in certain MDS's than "I was quiet, I studied, I took the manual home and read it, just like a Dash-1, I knew what I was talking about, I did not bloviate--and it still mattered nothing. Nothing mattered, because they weren't going to carve out room unless you sucked their cocks and agreed that you were an idiot and they knew everything, because it was an inbred group that had been together for decades and wasn't going to not treat you as an FNG until a year or so down the road. And they would have done the same to you, no matter what your experience, because they did it to a guy who looked like a linebacker, and he chafed too. And because of it, your service can go to hell as far as I'm concerned."

In the 80s a lot of cars only went to 80 or 85 on the speedo. I don't know if it was the law but the idea was if you couldn't see 120 on it you wouldn't go that fast. Ahhh Two Harbors. We had relatives there, doncha know, and when I was a little girl we would spend part of the summer up in Two Harbors. My grandpa would take me fishing for brook trout, and when we didn't catch anything, we'd go to the fish store. I loved the fish store. It smelled like fish and the old Swedish man behind the counter would chop off the heads of the trout while you watched. It was hard to convince Grandma that we had caught them ourselves, the fish being wrapped up in brown paper and all.

Close but no cigar, J.J, - it's Chuck Heston.

I read somewhere that when they were plotting out the race, Heston said, "There's only one man in Hollywood who knows how to drive a chariot, and that's Frank Bushman."

Both Bushman (Messala) and Ramon Novarro (Ben-Hur) were still alive at the time; I always thought it was a shame they didn't get cameos in Wyler's version of the movie.

190 I had a Cobra Mustang convertible and a friend who worked at a privately owned/operated toll road. Since it was a private road, the management would contract with state troopers and the schedule would be posted in their operations center. My buddy would get me a copy of the trooper schedule every so often so we could, er, test the upper limits of the car.

I got to 140ish before I lost my nerve. And it was quite a ride. I can't imagine 170.

Funny story, I was working at a company where I really needed to get brownie points with the CEO. He was from England and lamented not being able to drive like civilized people. I told him I'd take him onto the toll road, and he had me ride along in his Jaguar. He appreciated the gesture mightily.

But then some time later he told me he took the car into the dealer for routine service and told the mechanic in his upper crust accent "please check the front end, as there's a wobble that sets in at about 110 or so." The mechanic thought he was kidding. Heh.

The very first VIAMobile was a 1959 Beetle which was dragged out of a neighbors scrub covered back yard, and given to me at the age of 15.

Somewhere along the line, once the engine would actually start and run, the idea of running a 50/50 mix of kerosene and oil at idle for a few minutes, drain, fill, repeat was a good way to get the sludge out of the internals.

That engine ran for another two years, with a teenage VIA at the wheel.
