29 More than a dozen pro-Palestinian protesters at San Francisco State University interrupted a speech by Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat Wednesday, shouting long live the Intifada! and the from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!

Holding Palestinian flags while some wore keffiyeh headscarves, the protesters called for Barkat to be kicked off the campus.

However, even as they tried to drown out his words, Barkat descended from the podium and sat in the audience where he answered questions.

35 The Muse family raised chickens for a couple of years. Here is what I learned about them:

1. They're extremely destructive. They will eat *any* vegetation they can wrap their beaks around. The fenced-off area where we had their house looked like the surface of the moon.

2. Everybody told us how wonderful their eggs would be, but I swear they didn't taste much different than store-bought.

3. They were more trouble than they were worth We eventually gave them away to a farm family from our church.

Kinda funny that at the same time Dems are eyeing the rather large endowments of many private universities.

Lookout, the ridiculously expensive yet useless degrees funded by taxpayers cam may finally be up. (Yeah, I know, the Dems will likely just skip the whole loan part and make this a new entitlement, letting universities continue to escape responsibility for their part in this mess).

Fun fact.... chickens don't know they're headless for a while.
Anyway, then I had the next most coveted job of traipsing around picking them up.

99 Chickens.... shudder. Grandparents would get a couple of hundred every Spring. Later on, they would slaughter most of them. I, being young and smaller than everyone else, got the coveted job of pulling their heads off ( don't ask how), and turning them loose to run around headless for a while.
Fun fact.... chickens don't know they're headless for a while.
Anyway, then I had the next most coveted job of traipsing around picking them up.
Nothing like the country life when you're growing up.

This looks really good. Star Wars has a chance to be for soft sci-fi world-building what Tolkien was for fantasy. I really think it's overdue for a non-Jedi movie.

For a few years I completely ignored the franchise unless Mr. Plinkett was narrorating narriting narrating. That was a good call at the time, because getting angry or annoyed at certain topics is something that doesn't ever run out. Today I realized that George Lucas doesn't know if Luke's first lightsaber was blue or green, and it pissed me off.

I have chickens. Well I don't, but wife and kids do. When they decided to get them I made it clear it's their thing, and don't rely on me to help in any way. But they're pretty low maintenance. The kids and wife built them a cool coop, and our dog thinks its their mother, which always cracks me up.

Fresh eggs may not taste any better, but at least I know for sure where they come from and that the chickens are fed all sorts of shit.

And OK, OK, I'll admit, I've kinda sorta gotten to like the critters too.

In the rest of the country and the rest of the world, nobody cares.

I guess that this is something like the New York equivalent of favoring ethanol subsidies in Iowa and in the lead up to the New York primaries, the candidates need to provide fan service for the locals but out side of NYC, even in Buffalo and Syracuse, nobody cares about how you operate the subway turnstile.

The female finally stopped right in front of the male and quacked furiously at him. He took his head out from under his wing, looked at her - and then put his head back under his wing.

It was so funny. All he needed was a little tiny Laz-E-Boy recliner and a six-pack.

172 I sadly read the story of the North Texas Firefighter who was killed in an automobile accident along with 2 of his young children. The other driver was an illegal that had already been deported once. No license, etc.

Whenever this happens, is there any standing for a family of the deceased to take the US Government to court and sue as they are allowing our immigration laws to be broken with impunity? I am also thinking of the young women who was murdered in San Francisco - a sanctuary city.

173 129 What amazes me looking back is how so many of the people around us kept chickens and goats (and foxes) and whatever. Right in their suburban backyards. Nobody thought a thing about it. Now if you have more than 3 dogs in your household, they come after you. And don't get me started on HOA's.

I'll tell you a family tale from Mama Basura.

When she was little her mother raised rabbits for food. It seems one year there wasn't enough money for a ham on Easter. Grandma, being a practical woman, grabbed a rabbit and cooked that. At dinner, the children were shocked and began crying because they thought she'd killed the Easter Bunny.

Indeed, the tool, which was bought from a third-party that Comey says he knows "a fair amount about," will only work on an iPhone 5c running iOS 9.

"This doesn't work on [an iPhone] 6s, doesn't work in a 5s, and so we have a tool that works on a narrow slice of phones," Comey said during a question-and-answer session with the university's students and professors.

Think about food production today vs 100 or 500 years ago. The number of labor hours to produce good today is something like 1/1000 of what it took to produce the same amount of food only a few centuries ago. And we can do it with less land, less water, etc.

But looking at it purely in a "does it create or destroy jobs" tunnel, we'd say oh man, this is horrible, think of all the farmers out of a job.

My current gig has me finding ways to work around a massively intricate, computer-controlled manufacturing automation system. The computers are stupid, not adaptive, and can only do what they were told to do, and in the way they were told to do it.

Now, I sit in a little room with about half a dozen other guys, monitoring computer screens to track the progress of our "lots" of semiconductor wafers, and looking for short-cuts to get them out the door faster. I handle about $2million worth of inventory, because I'm 'the new guy,' and so they don't want to put too much in my hands right off the bat.

We're productive as hell - that's our job, that's the job of anyone who picks up a check in the real world - and the value we add to the product is significant, and we're paid and paid very well for it.

Increased productivity means good paychecks for us, good profits for our company, and low-cost, high quality goods for our customers. Wanna know why computers and smartphones are so cheap? The answer doesn't lie with China - it's productive American workers.

237 Generally speaking, governments have governmental immunity. There are fairly narrowly drawn exceptions. In this instance, we have the knowing and intentional violation of the law. If we had an honest judiciary, such a suit might fly. The alternative is that the president is above the law.

There are other issues, for example, the voluntary intoxication of the illegal alien might be a supervening cause.

I like the shows and "after-school specials" on TV that are aimed at kids. When there's trouble from a gang, the gang is always racially integrated. They always take great pains to show a white guy and a black guy and an Asian guy in the rough, tough gang. Heaven forbid the kids should know the race-based composition of most street gangs.

You'd think that an opposition party (don't laugh at the concept, I know it's not reality) would fund videographers to make documentaries naming the elected officials and bureaucrats and their actions that lead to the illegal provided mayhem we are encountering.

Then I realize that those same officials and bureaucrats have access to the power of the uber state to ensure this doesn't happen.

248 I love living in the country. One day, a certified letter came that informed me someone had applied to build a 6,000 head pig CAFO across the street. All the waste would be disposed of in nearby local sections. To make matters worse, our county has 1,000 natural lakes.

I'm fighting it because if it goes in, I lose 80 percent or so of my property values. Most of the area farmers took it personally. They spread manure on the section next to my house. It is east of me, luckily.

249 I once saw a male duck snoozing with his head under his wing, while his mate was running around like crazy after all the little ducklings. The female finally stopped right in front of the male and quacked furiously at him. He took his head out from under his wing, looked at her - and then put his head back under his wing.

It was so funny. All he needed was a little tiny Laz-E-Boy recliner and a six-pack.

We were wondering how they made any money because they paid you the 5 cents deposit for each can that you pay when you buy them. The problem we will, and to some extent already are, facing, is that adaption (for at least the left half of the bell curve) is increasingly exceedingly difficult due to common technologies never before dreamed of.

However, as we make energy costs prohibitive, and off shore more manufacturing, and lower the standard of living, many of them will be able to convert quite nicely to a life of local gang warfare!

The RNC doesn't care about acceptance. Most of us agree the establishment would be fine with losing, as long as individuals in the power structure keep their jobs. Put forward a nice, friendly loser like Mitt so you don't scare off down ballot voters, and you're set. If Trump and Cruz make things ugly, especially a 3rd party run, it's great! Never donate over the phone. The companies that run the call centers are not the ones ostensibly receiving the funds; they are boiler room operations and generally keep upwards of 80% of the money that they raise for themselves.

If you want to make a charitable donation, research the organization to make sure it doesn't spend all its money on administrative expenses, and then donate directly.

428 What was the "mandate" (almost always mythical, and proven to be so in practice) from the electorate was behind 1) the abortive disastrous amnesty push in 2006 (from the GOP WH)? 2) the abortive and even more clown-tastic idiocy of the Gang of Eight?

Answer: no mandate, of course.

Amnesty is the stupidest, most obviously disastrous and unjust, "policy" idea ever seriously entertained by more than fringe elements in American politics.

It does not arise from any sort of electoral mandate, it doesn't need same, and it hasn't been stopped by anything except actual grass-roots revolt and overwhelming popular opposition. It will come at us again if anybody but You Know Who wins (and, possibly, even if he *does* win the WH), almost guaranteed.

Opposition to amnesty is one of the "outlier" bits of data that there's any hope for the country. Opposition to "gun control" being the other. (both completely genuine, barely organized, organic popular opposition to incredibly stupid, destructive, and in one case racist/race-baiting ideas) Other than that - "it's dead, Jim". At least it looks that way.

There is a conscious and deliberate policy to deindustrialize America. Mark Levin has talked about it several times.

The globalists are doing it for both redistributionist and environmental reasons. In fact, I think the environmental aspects just serve as a ruse to implement the policy. They aren't too concerned about increasing pollution in China.

A few years ago, I was flipping through a memoir by a mob hit man (don't recall the man or title). However. . .it seems that this fellow was known through the Outfit for being extremely sadistic and needlessly violent, so he was not surprised when he got a call from the head of one of the major Chicago families.

It seems the capo's daughter had been knocked up by a slimeball who refused to marry her. The hitman was assigned to carry out a proper punishment.

He kidnapped the guy and took him to a deserted cave, shackled his arms and legs, stripped him naked, then tied a wet strip of leather around his balls. He then set up a video camera.

As he walked out of the cave, he turned back for a last look. The first rat was already sniffing around the screaming man.

Two days later, the hitman went back to the cave, collected the videotape and brought it to the boss.

Here's a simple plan to bring back heavy manufacturing and grow the economy at 5%+ for the next 20 years.

Use the government for what the government is for. This would entail doing something collectively that couldn't be accomplished strictly through private means.

Build 500 identical nuke plants spread across the country on federal land and bases and feed the grid with base energy so that electricity is nearly free.

This can only be done by the government because it's nuclear power. The fed can eliminate any delays by lawsuits, eliminate the liability and waste problems that cost the private nuke industry 10 times the actual cost of a plant and guarantee the safety and security of each site.

Every great stride in the quality of life can be tied to the availability and cheap cost of energy. With next-to-free electricity, it would be impossible to manufacture anywhere else in the world in heavy industries for less, regardless of the disparity in wages.

New business would spring up that we can't even imagine, once they have unlimited power.

Just like the boom in information technology, no one knows how much this would change things.

All for the cost of Obama's shovel ready program.

554 He had a colleague - Mr. Tastee - who taught him that trick. Guy drove an ice cream truck, and used to freeze his kills sometimes.

That was inspiration for Clive Cussler in his book Cyclops - the deal was that two dead bodies are found floating around in a blimp. The medical examiner worked the Mr. Tastee-style case and figured out that the two dead bodies were frozen and then thawed. Turns out they were two Cosmonauts who had an equipment malfunction in space, froze to death, orbited for a year before the Russians could get the capsule down, landed in Cuba, where they were part of a switcheroo to fake someone's death.

Cussler in his prime was quite the storyteller. Now he just sucks.

Which is why anyone who says "Shucks, we've had hard times before!" is whistling past the graveyard.

The moral, spiritual, and intellectual rot today, especially in the ruling class, is unprecedented.

Actually, if I were advising Trump, I would have him do it as a military expenditure, just as the interstate system was.

That's how the left has proposed expensing the "Smart Grid" system, using a trillion dollars to pump electricity from windmills and solar panels to cities.

If an enemy wanted to fuck us up, they would target a few switching centers that would knock out the power from Michigan to North Carolina.

With 500 reactors spread out over the country, the system is secure.

607 "The interstate system was built as a way to move the military around in case of invasion"

The U.S. military in the 1920s and 1930s actually was (with horribly cramped budgets) trying to game out unanticipated contingencies of the next war. Imagine that!

The famous Louisiana Maneuvers, where Patton learned a lot, was part of it.

So was a cross-country military convoy run for test purposes, trying to deploy from the East Coast to the West Coast on the road network as it then existed. It took over two months. Ike later remembered that experience when in office.

Money is the easy part. 500 reactors can be built for less than a trillion, since modern manufacturing methods would be used and all are the same design.

Using one of the new designs, used fuel from early reactors can be used.

Since all the reactors are the same, a central training facility would train all operators.

The newer designs don't need the water some of the old designs needed. All reactors would be built on federal land, most likely military bases.

647 Known Knowns:

Will Cruz get to 1,237 before the Convention? No way. He'll be mathematically eliminated next week when Trump gets all or nearly all the delegates in NY by clearing 50%. Cruz may come in a distant third in NY. By the end of the month, after a few more Northeast primaries, it'll be clear that Ted -- who now has 517 delegates -- will be far short of 1,237 if he fights all the way to Cleveland.

Known Unknowns:

Will Trump get to 1,237 delegates before the Convention? He needs to get his mojo back. Cruz may weaken as it becomes clear that he's a catspaw for the GOPe, so that Trump wins primaries by larger margins and gets more delegates. If Trump is a bit short on the 1,237, he may be able to bribe a few of the uncommitted delegates to vote for him on the first ballot.

Can Cruz win at the Convention? You have to believe that (1) Trump won't get to 1,237 and (2) Cruz can cut the GOPe out of the process, e.g. by keeping in Rule 40 for all ballots so that the Convention will be forced to pick between Cruz and Trump.

Will the GOPe be cut out of the process? I doubt it, but YMMV. When I think of the typical delegate it's someone who makes their living from being connected to government. i.e. they suck on a Big Tit. Now there will be true believing Constitutionalists and Tea Partiers in the mix, but most of the delegates -- even the ones pledged to Trump or Cruz on the first ballot -- will vote their personal best interest. Why does anyone think that hundreds and hundreds of these Rent Seekers are going to gravitate to Cruz? When word comes down from the Inner Party that they should vote for Romney/Ryan/Whoever if they know what's good for them, how do you think they're going to vote?

You like Cruz.
You hate Trump.
You'll get Romney/Ryan/Whoever as the nominee.

Talking to one of the LIVs at the office who claims to be a political moderate. He said he wouldn't vote for Trump because he's a racist and his comments about women. Okay. What if it's between Cruz and Sanders? Sanders because Cruz is a racist and his comments about women. What racism and comments about women? He walked away. I'm guessing he'd say the same about Kasich or any Republican.

I know this is probably silly, but could someone direct me to information about Bernie Sanders that is not MSM-filtered? If I google "sanders beliefs" all I get are the feel the bern crap, or how Bern is in this world, not of it, nonsense.

My kids were arguing about how he would be better than Hilary, since she is, in their words, a lying, murdering felon, but I admit that I haven't really read up on him. His teeth scare me as much as his socialist beliefs.

I would like to have some facts, other than my "socialism only works in a family, because nobody else wants to pay for your sorry ass" diatribe that they have heard for years. (Granted, this is directed more at son than daughter, who doesn't really care about politics.)

Thanks yall

Would never take in a poor half broken snake - look at Brussels, there's a big, big problem folks, Europe is in trouble, it's a real mess - and do we love our Europeans? We need to make our country safe and they do too! They've got to be stronger, and we've got to be strong! I'm the strongest, have you seen my polls?"

I think I "get" this. This is PTSD.

The adjustment he's making has nothing to do with politics; it's a defense mechanism to keep him from losing his mind with outrage, shame, anger, pain, all the emotions a rape victim suffers. "It was justified; it can all be balanced out cosmically; I'm the other side of an equation, etc." The outrageousness of his statement is directly proportional to his true level of distress.

I do a similar thing when I'm ripped off or I lose something valuable or whatever. "At least I'm not in a North Korean labor camp" is the line I always use on myself. It works, too.

722 Probably willowed, in any case not the format for this (as I said at the outset), but ......

Public goods (simplifying, but fully accurate in this instance) are things that govt. gets involved in producing because there is either insufficient private demand or supply for said thing.

Spy satellites. Nuclear explosives (OK, some here *would* buy them if they could, but you know what I mean). Nuclear submarines. A navy. Etc etc.

Electrical power does not fit into either part of that definition (demand/supply). Doesn't even come close.

And don't confuse separate things like eminent domain to acquire routes for transmission lines, etc. That is clearly a govt. function - *when* private rights of way that can be rented/bought to do the same thing, that is.

This is the exact opposite of an academic discussion, energy being the lifeblood of a modern economy, whether manufacturing- or services-based.

The best electrical power generation solution is obviously the one that was initially used and is still just as clearly the best: let real-world price signals and technology provide the generation and transmission methods, within sane and scientifically-rooted environmental parameters. Period.

Some nationwide federally-involved reactor system answers a question that doesn't exist, using a stupid approach with no applicability. Rescind indefensible specious "environmental" interference in production of fuels and production of power, and you have plenty of inexpensive grid power, forever.

(Base power refers to generation sources that can be used to power a grid - wind and solar are not technically suitable for this)

As always it somewhat depends on what you mean by the GOPe. The delegates are rank / file guys chosen from the local party bastions up and not top down. They are not chosen by state GOP leaders. They are likely to be much more conservative that what we might consider the GOPe to be regarding elected officials.
