Obama Knocks the Press For Not Digging Into the Substance of a Politician's Lies, Hypocrisies, Demagogueries, and Failures

As Dr. Evil would say, Riiiiiiight.

Open Thread.

Let me tell you my Arrow theory. My theory is that Laurel will be the one who dies. Felicity, meanwhile, will develop super-reflexes due to the spinal implant she got from Curtis.

Obviously, this means she must Fight Crime.

As Archer would say, "Oh, do you not...?"

She will become the new Black Canary. And to honor her dead friend Laurel Lance, she'll adopt the pseudonym Dinah Lance. Who knows, maybe she'll have to pretend she's dead by some plot convolution and will need to take on a new name.

That way, Arrow can comport itself with what's supposed to happen in the comics, that he marries a Black Canary called Dinah Lance.

Met a really interesting fellow at work his week. Definitely ME, thirty or so. Had the soldier's eye and we get to talking.

Interpreter, served with our boys in Iraq. Moved to Texas because "it is a military district; it is safe here."

Has the same first name as the prophet of Islam, his family name is that of a famous Caliph, but his name badge reads, "George W. Maxwell."

He's banging a Mexi-MILF who works in logistics, and the man can hold his liquor.

45 Meanwhile, in an inevitable result of our current superhero overload, some Hollywood studio I've never heard of has partnered with Viz Media to make some new live action anime adaptations. No specific titles have been given, but Viz owns a lot of heavy hitters - One Piece, Naruto, and Death Note for example.

I'm pessimistic, with one caveat - Edge of Tomorrow was pretty damn good, and that was a manga adaptation...well, it was an adaptation of a Japanese light novel. But close enough.

"Radio Yerevan, what's the main difference between capitalism and communism?"

Answer: In capitalism, man is enslaved and exploited by his fellow man. Under communism, it's the other way around.

"Radio Yerevan, there is still so much crime and theft under socialism. When we attain communism, will crime really end?"

Answer: Yes. By the time we get there, there won't be anything left to steal.

Trump, who will lose to a Democrat.

Some dickhead RINO insider to be identified and appointed at the Convention, and then lose to a Democrat.

Hillary will be president, unless her inner pus reservoir finally builds up enough pressure to burst her carapace first. Then we get a different senile grifter, Old Man Yells at Clouds.

A woman who has an abortion in the United States has not committed a crime.

You have no basis to say that a woman who has had an abortion should somehow be punished.

214 "... academia itself is suppressing the classics being taught in schools and that comics enable it."

One of the former academic colleagues at Miz-zoo of the now sacked Melissa Click wrote a long self-pitying piece about how hard it is to be an SJW professor in the modern groves of academe. So hard. You have no idea how hard it is. Incredibly hard. Unrelatably hard.

He even said this, non-ironically:

"A world in which people's main activity... is to discipline each other for infractions of civility, is hardly a model of universal freedom."

Yes, a professorial friend of "Can I get some muscle over here?" Melissa Click _actually did write that with a straight face_.

Anyway, back to the point about academia, the classics, and the comics:

This fellow, a professor of English, teaches university classes and writes for scholarly journals about... "graphic novels", a.k.a., dressed-up comic books. Rather as Click herself was a renowned academic authority on the deep cultural nuances of the _Twilight_ series.

The question he was asked was IF abortion was ILLEGAL in the USA, should a woman be punished for obtaining one.

But go ahead with your fantasy that he has said that women should be punished for obtaining legal abortions. Please, this lie needs to be written over and over and over because we have nothing else to talk about in this country but how Donald Trump wants to round up every woman out there who has had an abortion and put them in jail. I know he said that, I read it on the internet. Did you hear what Donald Trump just said? He wants to send women who had abortions to the electric chair! Fox just said that Donald Trump has a secret list of celebrity women he knows that have had abortions and when he's elected, he will have the Justice Dept. charge them with murder.

Hey I just heard that Donald Trump told CNN that Michele Fields had an abortion and that's how she got those bruises. He's going to sue her and make sure that the police know she went to have an abortion.

Wrong. Old people. Wrong. Want to find safety? Can you even 'find the safety' on the handgun you've purchased? Probably not very quickly, with your poor eyesight and fingers ravaged by arthritis.

HA! I bought a gun with NO sights or safety! I'm gonna be safe but the rest of you might be fucked.

Trump is the only vote the GOP might get from me. The rest of them can go straight to hell. What the GOP has done after being handed power in 2010 and extended in 2012 and the last election ... is beyond forgivable. They are, quite simply, the scum of the Earth. I'm surprised anyone is going to vote for them after the back-stabbing, treason, collaboration and douchebaggery they've engaged in for the last 6 years.

SB is still nice of course, but so different. The State St. rehab, the freeway change, and of course the ongoing gentrification. But it was so quiet, so perfect, in the old days. Hungry - so I'm thinking of the awesome chorizo enchiladas at Casablanca on lower State (long gone, I think).

At a friend's wedding (at the mission), very funny - three of us, spontaneously, sort of looked at each other during the reception and almost at the same moment smiled and said "hey, let's cut this short - dinner at the Casa?".

If you got to go to the ranch, you are special. I met one of the Hollister kids a few months back. He told some interesting stories about JJ taking shots at the surfers to scare them.

690 boulder TH: "The Supreme Court is pretty much a super-Senate elected for life, staffed with political hacks"

Dude.

"An unaccountable super-legislature for dummies" - my line for a long time now.

(the "dummies" part needs some nuance - while there are/have been actual dim bulbs, like Sotomayor, it's mostly meant in a practical sense - but that just emphasizes how far the court is beyond its technical and constitutional competence, to hear them bumble on about things they don't understand, for example the jaw-droppingly illiterate discussion [all sides] in the first O-care case)

Hungry - so I'm thinking of the awesome chorizo enchiladas at Casablanca on lower State (long gone, I think).

Posted by: rhomboid at March 30, 2016 10:52 PM (QDnY+)

Yep, Casablanca's closed down about 6-7 years ago, if memory serves. Used to do the carnitas there all the time.

The one thing that I miss from my 20+ years in SB (now that I'm in Texas) is Esau's. Not the new version a block off of State street (really nice digs, with a surfing theme), but the old hole-in-the-wall grease-pit space they had on State St. Loved it there, especially going in at 2am for a short stack and a side of thick cut bacon. Food's exactly the same at the new space, but I always liked the run down places.

695 Whilst we're on the topic of North Africa (which, I guess, we're not, but...)

Readers of "The Bloodlands" will recall what independent Poland was like in the late 1930s. "Hey look at all this scary Nazism over here in Germany... LET'S KILL THE JEWS FIRST BEFORE THE GERMANS BEAT US TO IT"

In Tunisia's case, it seems to be, oh dear, ISIS in Libya, so let's get to praising the hizb allah:
http://tinyurl.com/huvuh79 [Manar]

... and to jailing some queers:
http://tinyurl.com/zmddw74

The thought of doing the opposite of what ISIS wants seems not to have entered the Tunisian politicians' heads.

696 Now, Bander, you'll be risking the wrath of the brackets if you traffic in talk like that. Forbidden topics and all.

CaliGirl, I myself have never been to the ranch, but my brother's surfed there in the past and his friend lives there. Think there's some huge NIMBY thinggy roiling now about a pipeline or something? Obviously not a group of people you're going to railroad easily, w/out court battles, etc. And there was some stink about Cameron's helipad a while ago, I seem to recall.

Is Joe's still down there? Place with bread instead of chips for your salsa?

Only place I've really been to for a while is the Andersen's deli restaurant up State - stop-over lunch on the way to Paso area. Amazing sandwiches - and of course the butter cookies and other evil Danish stuff.

704 Japanese sub shelled Ellwood Mesa just north of Santa Barbara. Across from Ellwood School in Goleta. Attack kept out of news. Recently was a drive to save the old gas station at entrance to Mesa. State St. Use to be fun & funky. Now generic retail. SB Brewery is cool.

Still there as of a year ago when I moved. I doubt it'll ever close down.

SB Brewing Company down the street is always worthwhile, good food, good brews.

Brophy's down by the marina though.....seafood to kill for. Outstanding.

I'll tell you, there's a lot to love about SB, but I don't regret moving to rural Texas. Just getting away from the homeless shitting on the sidewalks is a blessing.

Besides, when you go hobo-hunting in a target-rich environment, you get jaded and lazy.
