CNN Townhall Thread

If Trump shows up, which he's threatened he might not, we can expect a few questions about the never-ending dramas which even some stalwart supporters liken to having to bail a hyperactive, anti-social 16 year old out of jail every couple of weeks.

We'll probably hear about some "deals," and how we need to make "great" ones, and, one can only hope, some discussion of which candidates or candidates' wives are sub-Trumpian in terms of physical appeal.

Looks like Sanders is close to the same. That's a bonus I didn't see coming.

Posted by: Weasel at March 29, 2016 08:10 PM (e3bId)

31 Trump, in any other time in history, would have been an afterthought to this political process many many many gaffes ago.

Many.

Just a testament to how pissed off, and frankly, scared, people are about the state of our union that he is surfing the crests of these by any previous measure, major gaffes, with ease.

And being scared and angry is not at all an insult. If you aren't scared for the prospects of the U.S. as a going proposition, I'd be more worried. And anger is a completely healthy and valid state to be in as well.

So, yeah, Trump is obviously making it up as he goes. If he has an ounce of introspection, he's probably wishing they'd gone with the "Cory is a Super Secret Secret Service Agent" angle from the get go.

Or, you know, just had the dumbass apologize.

But it doesn't seem to have mattered yet, and I have a hard time believing it will.

58 God, that was depressing. Stuck in heavy traffic in the car listening to Mark Levin, normally a pleasure. Mark's show today?

Lewandowsky, Lewandowsky, Lewandowsky, Lewandowsky, Lewandowsky, Lewandowsky, Lewandowsky, Lewandowsky, Lewandowsky, Lewandowsky, plus a pitch for LevinTV.

Pretty clear why Mark is pushing this so hard. It's a flailing desperate last-ditch attempt to try to pin *something* on Trump and stop the short-fingered vulgarian from taking the nomination.

And I'm increasingly with Mark in that I predict it'll be a disaster if Trump does do so. Digitis Minimus Vulgaris seems to become more vindictive and unstable and incoherent with each passing day. Viciously attacking Scott Walker for... NOT raising taxes in Wisconsin? Major conservative bona fides there, Don.

The problem is that a _de minimus_ flap involving a campaign manager and misdemeanor battery is not the sort of thing that turns around a national race.

So, looks like we're gonna get stuck with Trump, implying a Democratic President to follow King Putt. And the way the tea leaves read right now, a split Senate (which thanks to the RINOs is effectively a Democratic Senate). With Scalia's seat sitting open for that Democrat to plunk in basically whomever they feel like. Oh, and the Republicans retaining the House, but with the collaborationist Lyin' Ryan still running it. Oh joy.

I think I'm going to go drink myself into merciful unconsciousness. A crushing hangover would be more fun than this.

We're within a very short distance technologically of most ag labor being automated. Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto.

Think so? Yeah. Prove it? No. He did consult with the Clintons before the elections, in a private conversation. He has dealings with them. He's worked with both parties to his own ends. He spends as much time keeping his ceiling low as raising his floor (in terms of votes). He's focused almost exclusively on winning the primary and the general looks bad. He comes across as a parody a lot of the time (he's kind of always done that).

Another possibility is he's "serious" but the Clintons wanted him to run because they knew it would be a clusterfuck and they could take him down.

Um. Would love to?

And then of course went on to talk about how "his" book _The Art Of The Deal_ (ghostwritten for him) was such a yuuuuuuuge bestseller.

We know which mosques are such epicentres. The Tsarnaevs' mosque was one such. This was an explicitly political mosque, which means jihad, it cannot mean anything other than jihad. That jihad was not necessarily violent - there we're getting into "qital" - but the Boston "Islamic Centre" which the Tsarnaevs attended absolutely did want to bring the whole of America under the rule of Allah.

Half the field said that, some after, some before. Saying it disjointedly created controversy, and that gigantic free media budget used that to put him in the lead.

For the primary.

Like McCain and Romney, that coverage will change in the general. This time they have a bit of a head-start - they're only bashing him for things *liberals* hate him for, mostly, at this point. They'll go whole hog in the general.

Unless things get chaotic and he ends up third party, in which case they'll keep doing both boosting and bashing.

People always think "it'll be different this time."

584 I don't mix salsa and cheese. It's a thing. I can do a spicy cheese, sort of, but not pepper jack, it's too weird.

Awesomesauce:

a bit of Velveeta
a bit of half-and-half or whole milk
a bit of shredded medium cheddar (or other)
a bit of Temp Tee Whipped Cream Cheese (philly doesn't melt well)
A bit of Kraft macaroni and cheese powder mix

As you can guess, I don't measure shit.

Call it 2 oz, 6 oz, 3 oz, 2 oz, heaping tablespoon

(multiply or modify as needed)

microwave or saucepan, stir frequently.

works with chips, veggies, noodles, meats, probably other things.

Makes a bit more than you'd expect, the whipped cream cheese actually foams a bit.

I'm convinced only political folks watch or care about debates and townhalls at this point. I'd like to think that any voters who are undecided are watching, but I'm pretty sure they're going on with their lives and will make their decisions based on the fact that he's got the most delegates, he's faaaamous, or that mom and dad are voting for Cruz, or whomever, and they want to be rebellious.

Then the South Carolina debate happened. A lot of folks said that he was pivoting to the general, trying to attract Dem voters. But he hadn't closed the deal with the GOP base yet. And that pissed me off, it is a rookie move, and showed me that he would take my vote for granted just like all the others have.

Since then, his campaign has just continued to spin into a never ending drama-fest of high school emotions. While the world is burning down around us. We all bitched about what lousy campaigns McCain and Romney ran? They look like geniuses in comparison. Why someone hasn't taken his stupid phone away from him is beyond me.

743 The docs training kicked in the moment she heard her neighbor screaming.

The late-night scene on Nov. 7 seemed like combat than an Oceanside, California, apartment complex. Blood was running down the neighbors back. Voices were shrieking. The womans husband was on the run.

For a moment, Chief Hospital Corpsman Jaclyn Place wondered whether to rush in or to run away.

A million things were going through my head in that 15-second run to the back of the building, Place recalled in a Marine Corps news release. Honestly though, I was just thinking corpsman, every training I had ever had in the military.

Place raced in. Her neighbor Jennifer Barela had been stabbed, severing an artery in her arm. The cut looked deep. Place called for Marine Staff Sgt. Thomas McDonald, who brought a first aid kit from his nearby apartment. Place put the compression bandage from the medical bag onto Barelas arm. By that point, it was clear that Barelas daughter had also been attacked.

The 14-year-old had stab wounds on her face and was bleeding from a cut on the left side of her ribs. The rib cage injury looked serious. Blood pooled under her. She struggled to breathe.

Place applied a seal to the wound that stanched the blood loss while preventing air from being trapped in her chest, which could cause life-threatening complications, 1st Marine Logistics Group said in a Monday news release. Meanwhile, police were responding to the scene in response to the 911 call made by another neighbor, Staff Sgt. Vincent Bryan.

The Marines credited Places trauma response and courage with saving her neighbors lives even while the attacker was still on the loose. She received an Impact Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal on March 11 at Camp Pendleton. McDonald and Bryan received Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals for their actions.

Shes the reason why I have my daughter here still, Jennifer Barela said in the release. She is family now.

Place said it all came down to teamwork.

That corpsman-Marine team was amazing, she said. That dynamic is so sacred. We all knew what to do and worked off each other. If it wasnt for them, I wouldnt have been able to do what I did.

764 So, listened a bit to Mark Levin tonight toward the end of his show, when he finally had put on the 100th caller who said Corey the women beater was a horrendous person, etc, and instead had on the Westchester, NY county attorney, who is trying to fight the new HUD rules coming to a neighborhood near you.

After listening to it, I personally don't care if Trump stands up in front of an audience and drops his pants. I will vote for him if he is the Republican nominee.
Having Hillary in the White House will absolutely finish destroying this country.

If you are not familiar with HUD's current plan (with court backing )to bring low income individuals to your neighborhood simply to make it more diverse, you ought to educate yourself.

A neighborhood in Baltimore and a neighborhood in Marin County, CA are also in this HUD experiment. HUD is requiring that these counties pay to build 3 BR 2 B homes of a certain minimum square feet smack in the middle of affluent neighborhoods, which HUD will then provide housing vouchers(which will be 1/10th of what the home typically would sell or rent for) to selected low income minorities to move into. All to provide "income opportunity" for these people. HUD will pay their taxes, their transportation costs, their utilities, etc. So that they can experience what it is like to live in a nice neighborhood, that they have not had to work for to obtain.

767 Okay, on the cheese aisle, (and there's a good blog by that name, I'll give a link in a bit...

I made stuffed pork chops for dinner tonight.

Quad of 1/3 lb. chops, all just over an inch thick.

Sidewise slice into 'em to make a stuffing pocket.

Into which went about 2 tsp of Philly Cream Cheese, and a crumbled-up slice of crispy fried, smoked bacon.

Onto the befoiled baking sheet, then a teaspoon of mayonnaise on top, which was then hit with black pepper, McCormick's "Caribbean Jerk" seasoning, and a few good shakes of garlic powder.

Covered with a good bit of aged Romano, from the "for pizza" shaker.

Into the oven at 375 for 25 minutes.

Nicely browned cheese crust on top, gooey ooey cream cheese flowing out from the middle, and yes, I did scrape up the toasted bits from the foil!

These are so damn mouth-wateringly good.

And because I served 'em during the ONT, they're calorie free!

Trump's charisma alone was the deal closer. Sorry, I guess y'all are for Cruz, and I suppose he'd be my Plan B (before Romney, Ryan, or someone else from Central Loser Casting), but I think the country will miss a damn good deal if they pass up The Donald.

It's a crap choice. Had the GOP listened to it's base 8 years ago, we may not have been in this position. But they didn't , we have all these open primaries for Democrats to choose our candidate and here we are.

The attorney that Levin was talking to said that he had actually stood outside Hillary's home in Westchester(Chappaqua) and called for her to come out and explain to the media how she either had chosen to live in a neighborhood that practiced discrimination or to denounce what HUD was doing. Of course she did not come out. This guy was a hoot. He said he is currently in court suing HUD over an inspector guy that was supposed to be a neutral referee working with the county, but who is actually being paid $1,000 a hour by HUD(taxpayers) to make sure HUD's directives are enacted. The inspector initially went to court to try to stop this elected attorney from being able to inform his constituents of what HUD is doing to them.

844 I asked my granny with Alzheimer's a question I would get an answer too. The fact it was off topic and nonsensical was why I didn't ask her many questions, much less consider making her the nominee of the goddam Republican Party.

- - -

Maybe if your granny pursed her lips, paused for a minute, pursed some more and then gave a run around answer about her papa sewing 100 dollars into her underwear, she'd get somewhere.

It's easy.

855 I remember the last couple of appearances of Beckel on The Five before he went back into rehab...he could hardly speak and as he would slur and forget what he was saying, the other four would jump in to finish his sentence or change and go on to the next subject.

I cannot imagine what Fox was thinking by letting him go on camera in that condition.

It's a crap choice. Had the GOP listened to it's base 8 years ago, we may not have been in this position. But they didn't , we have all these open primaries for Democrats to choose our candidate and here we are. Posted by: Jen the original at March 29, 2016 11:03 PM (ph1j2)

Not only that, but the primary season is heavily front-loaded with open primary states, so Democrat voters have a large say in who the Republican front runner is right out of the box.

This has been the case for years and has been repeatedly pointed out, but apparently the GOPe is fine with it, because they have made no effort whatsoever to change it.

They have an objective, and are working to reach it.

The GOP has offices, and is working to keep them.
