"Family Guy" is for adults. It's entire purpose is to piss-off as many people as possible while being funny. It works a lot of the time.

The guy who does the voice for Joe, (Puddy from Seinfeld) is a very conservative Christian. I read an interview wherein he said that he found one joke so distasteful that he told them he would not take part in any episode in which it was used. He advised them to do it in an episode in which his character would play no part.

Posted by: Biggus Diccuss at March 26, 2016 12:37 PM (TOk1P)

59 Ace has talked before about the concept of comedy and offensiveness. There is a ratio of funny to offensive, that if you are funny enough, then nearly any topic is fair game.

The problem is, too many so-called comedies just aren't funny. And they're highly offensive.

I offer Louie cq as an example. Not funny at all, but some people laugh at him anyway, because they like offensive assholes.

I really don't know anything about Louie CK other than the name.

"Family Guy" and "King of the Hill" I understand. Their creators and writers have a certain lean. I get that. They both find humor where they can. While Judge is generally a conservative Judge sorta made Hank & Co out to he rube-ish. No hate. Just an angle to drive points of humor.

72 Well, part of comedy being offensive is that you either have to be in a position where the offended can't answer back or be willing for them to get in your grill and have an answer to it.

otherwise someone is going to make you eat your own words, and insist you smile as much when it is going the other way or look like a sour loser.

And when he lost his beloved Dodge, he was most concerned about losing a picture of his family. 81 @47 Except for the very impressionable who have Just!Discovered!Atheism!, my experience is that your typical atheist is someone who was so damaged by his congregant experience in a faith that was foisted upon him that he rejected the whole infamous thing. This is often true of those who reject "family life," too.

A college wag I smartassed around with used to ask declared atheists, "Jewish? or Lutheran?" He usually hit one. There are lapsed Catholics, but no atheist Catholics.

90 Transgressive was the word I was thinking of.

part of transgression is making people uncomfortable just so you can laugh at them, and part of it is purposeful breaking of rules and conventions to highlight the reason for the rules, or what the conventions say about our preconceptions of the world.

Scott Adams called it "Shifting paradigms without a clutch"

Unfortunately the second part gets lost when humor becomes gratuitous insults and arguments.

Anyhow, I have the sense of fun of a cold cup of tea.

So, a friend of mine calls this the time of year when the squirrels and bluejays show up on his back porch with looted candies and colored eggshells.
Jays and squirrels live to loot other critters' hoards of food, and apparently watching doting parents hide colored eggs and candy (badly for the sprogs) in the yard triggers something deep within them.

95 @81 re atheists . . .

Most of the atheists I know treat their atheism as a Merit Badge in Intellectual Superiority.

I suspect that many of the atheists who cite a bad experience with a church or a congregation would prefer to blame the church or the congregation rather than to chalk it up to human nature.

Having to confront the fallen nature of man would threaten the foundation of their utopian dreams.

100 Furious George, 95, that matches my observations to a T.

I just read the story about the woman in Indianapolis whose house was entered by a man carrying zip-ties, among other items. Support for my theory that all burglars are rapists or rapist wannabes.

113 Even leftists like to "endorse " Republican candidates. Look every leftist paper has one they like until it's down to 1 R or 1 D, then they pull the rug out from the R.

115 We are hosting a big Easter brunch tomorrow (I'm taking Easter since my mom's passing last November) and my son just texted me this:

Happy Easter, all!

116 I used to go to a restaurant in building I worked in & ordered tater tots, then a second when I was almost finished. Once in a great while I would order a third order.
They were side dishes & didn't know Five Napkin Burger would have tater tots. I'd never been in there until a group of us went there shortly after they opened. My former boss ordered tater tots & I tasted one & he gave them to me.

117 Gem,
I'm sorry about your mother.
I was talking to one of my cousins today & she really said Happy Birthday to me because my late Mother's birthday would've been February 23. Her father passed in 1995 & I got the impression she still celebrates his birthday.

The first year with the holidays is the hardest. I'm not one to cry, but I cried almost the whole way to a Christmas party after my father passed away, he passed on November 2, 1988.

I don't remember feeling different on Thanksgiving that year.
I may have have but it didn't stay in my memory.

Surround yourself with people, especially if they have toddlers.

118 I apologize for any typos, etc. there's something wrong with my face & eyes & I can't see that well. My dr gave me prescription eye drops & they didn't help.

120 Thanks, Carol. Yes, the holidays were really difficult. Well, every day was difficult for a while there. Sometimes it still doesn't seem real, even though I was holding her hand as she died. But the holidays belonged to her, and she made it seem so easy. I hope I can do her memory justice.

121 Gem,
You will be fine.
It's hard & it sucks, but we have no choice.
I've always believed we are all on God's hands & when he wants one of our loved ones, there is nothing we can do to change it.

I'm Catholic, but never go to Mass because I can't sit still to listen to anyone. But, I still believe all I was taught from my mother & Sunday School, it was in Tuesday's, but it doesn't change because of day of the week.
