Quote of the Day I

The Belgian police have also been hampered by bizarre rules. According to Belgian Justice Minister Koen Geens, just two days after the Paris attacks Abdeslam was "likely in a flat in Molenbeek." But because of the country's penal code, which prohibits raids between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. unless a crime is in progress or in case of fire, police were ordered to wait until dawn to pursue him. By then, Abdeslam was nowhere to be seen.

British Muslims Fear Repercussions Over Tomorrow's Train Bombing

-- Classic line from Jim Treacher back in 2005

Quote of the Day III

The American military commander Joe Stilwell used to say about Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek that he should spend more time "generaling" and less time "issimoing." As with the endeavors of the Chinese Nationalist Party, state governance would proceed more smoothly if leaders focused on getting the basic job done (like funding their basic obligations) before taking on gratuitous special projects.

Quote of the Day IV

Tracey Emin, the artist, has proved she still has the power to surprise, after announcing she has married a rock.

Quote of the Day V

This season is simply not like others.

50 years I've been politically aware, and active for 45 years ...and actively commenting since way before the world wide web (anyone else still recall the Prodigy community in the dial-up days ...and there were trolls and flame-wars then, too: it's not exactly a recent phenomena) and this is ...simply madness.

-- brdavis9, longtime commenter at Neo-Neocon and other sites on the state of blog comment sections

Quote of the Day VI

"The hippies didn't much like the Beatniks and they really hated the punks. The punks didn't much like the hippies and they really hated the hardcore kids. So it's been this cycle of bohemians hating each other."

-- Ada Calhoun, author of St. Marks is Dead: The Many Lives of America's Hippest Street

Related: The Beatnik Dictionary (from 1960)

Interestingly much of beatnik slang has gone mainstream and is still in use today.

AX- A musical instrument of any kind.
BALL-To have a good time.
BENNIES - Benzedrine pills, which are used to stimulate emotional reaction.
BREAD- Money. Used always in stead of money. For example,  "Have you -any bread? Gotta have some quick."
BUFF- A real authority on jazz music.
BUGGED-Someone who is bothered, upset, obsessed.
BUSTED-To get arrested by the police. Only a beatnik can be busted; ordinary human being always get arrested, never busted.
CAT- All the new bohemians are called cats. A cat is anyone who is uninhibited, free of all sex taboos, a complete nonconformist.
COOL - A term used for anything that is liked or greatly admired, such as a song or a woman. For example, "She's a real cool cat."
CONNECTION-This is a contact man for drugs.
COP OUT-To sell out to society and go conventional, which can mean anything from shaving to getting a steady job to pay the rent on the same bed every night.

There Was a Time When All Men Carried Pocketknives

"California State University at Long Beach on Thursday said that it has taken seriously an incident in which a faculty member saw a student with a small knife, in class, and asked him to leave and notified authorities."

I carry this and use it nearly every single day. And I feel naked without it whenever I have to travel through TSA-controlled territory.

Wisconsin Morons: The @DecisionDeskHQ Needs Your Help

It's Time to Just End the VA

A Department of Veterans Affairs employee in Puerto Rico was fired after being arrested for armed robbery, but her union quickly got her reinstated - despite a guilty plea - by pointing out that management's labor relations negotiator is a registered sex offender, and the hospital's director was once arrested and found with painkiller drugs.
We've told you the story of the executive who ran her department into the ground and was punished with a plush gig in the Philippines. Then there was the Albany, New York administrator who was found to have drugs addicts on staff who were stealing the medication of the veterans and was fired, but somehow got her job back at full pay. And, of course, who could forget the Arizona VA chiefs who cooked up the scheme to keep veterans on phony waiting lists where some of them literally died without seeing a doctor, but will keep their positions with full pay and benefits for as much as two more years. But today.

This one takes place down in Puerto Rico where one diligent VA worker found herself unable to report to work for an extended period of time. She was held up, you see, by an inconvenient inability to get a pass out of prison to make it into the office.

Comedian Eddie Izzard Completes 27 marathons in 27 days For Charity

Comedian Eddie Izzard has today completed his amazing 700-mile Sport Relief challenge and described running 27 marathons in 27 days as the 'hardest thing he's ever done'.

The 54-year-old finished his grueling challenge under a giant statue of Nelson Mandela in Johannesburg, South Africa, this afternoon after completing a whopping two marathons in one day.

After crossing the line to cheers, applause and chants of 'Eddie, Eddie, Eddie', the comic swigged champagne from the bottle in celebration at completing the 707-mile challenge in blistering heat.

...He also thanked everyone for their support after raising more than £1million for Sport Relief - which helps support disadvantaged people in the UK and across the world.

The latest trek follows his 2009 challenge when he completed 43 marathons in 51 days across the UK to raise more than £1.8 million for the same cause.

The F-35 can do things the F-16/18 never thought of. It carries AIM-9X/120 that can out-manevuer any opponent. The misslie out-flys the ariplane in today's world.

Anyway it's been killing me. Digging the hole to bury him yesterday afternoon, I didn't think I was going to make it without breaking down. Then I got sort of ashamed of myself for being such a sentimental old softy about it all.

77 27 marathons in 27 days is one of the most impressive feats I've ever heard of. Keeping from injuring yourself through a continuous cycle of running is almost impossible.

I did a 4 day challenge in January, 5K on Thursday, 10K on Friday, half marathon on Saturday, full marathon on Sunday. I had to train for 8 months to be able to recover in less than 24 hours. Highly trained runners need at a minimum 1 week between distances greater than 13 miles, and even then you can only do it a few times.

Holding him and calling his name, he'd "squeeze" you with his paws. And he would even "kneed" and paw with his hind feet, which no other cat I've had would do.

96 @29 1) I read the other day that the F-35 poor dog fighting skills are very much over blown. The problem is pilots who are used to the F-16. Once pilots learn the new capabilities of the F-35 to brake and keep weapons on target, they win the dog fights every time.

Strangely, pilots didn't seem to need to learn how to refly the F-22 in order to win dogfights.

Don't feel ashamed-- tears for a beloved pet as well as for a beloved person are part of what makes us human. I've buried four much-loved cats since 2010, all but one of whom had to be relieved of their pain with the vet's gentle help. One of them had cardiomyopathy, and the first clue I had was that she had trouble breathing and was in obvious pain. And I cried when I buried her (with the help of friends) as well as when I buried the others. (Hands virtual Kleenex across the Net).

130 Merovign, the F-16A was only wired for the AIM-9 and for back-up an M-61. It was intended as the Low tech portion of the USAF Hi-Lo plan with the F-15 as the High tech part.

141 Strangely, pilots didn't seem to need to learn how to refly the F-22 in order to win dogfights.

As I understand it, it is because the F22 is much like the F16 in capability. It has raw speed. But the F35 is more maneuverable. When approaching head on, the pilot can brake and turn the plane to point at the opponent, while the airframe continues to fly on the original vector. That is a different capability that pilots haven't had before.

We will see, but the guy writing the article was the Norwegian top-gun. It wouldn't surprise me to see an F35 win against and F22 at some point.

I was just talking about dogfighting. The Cat was a big, heavy bird, but had lots of power and a huge *and variable* wing area, and could do things like fire 45+ degrees off the path of travel (which has now been built into the 22 and 35 via other means).

It is meaningless now, but I am still an ASF-14 partisan.

177 Thanks everybody, I just sort of had to tell that, to write it out sort of for the record somewhere. I hope I didn't bum any of you out too much.

And "ashamed" wasn't really the right word. It's just I try to be stoic about things and then can't really. I sung in my head and sort of out loud "Auld Lang Syne". I can't sing worth much anyway, and wouldn't assault anyone's ears....but I just had.

The true meaning of "Auld Lang Syne" is very moving and sentimental. Anyway..... it was love. I don't really know if a cat can know how the owner feels, but I hope he did.

182 Had a pretty big snow around here yesterday. The weather idiots only missed the snowfall amount by about a foot, foot and a half. Anyway, made a beer run this afternoon and noticed a dead rabbit in the snow about ten foot from the sidewalk. There were rabbit tracks but no other predator tracks up to the kill. I'm thinking maybe a hawk, or even possibly an eagle as we have some in the neighborhood. What surprised me was how much of the carcass was still there. Even a hawk would take the kill, unless it was spooked.

That meant to Ball since the sixties. I know that for a fact.

Also it is in a CCR song: Chooglin'

"you got to Ball and have a good time".

That means to Ball is separate from having a good time.

"let's ball" was a common question. And it didn't mean "let's go have a good time" Although is COULD mean that but it was a question of intent not the result.

187 62 I hate to be a bummer, but yesterday, I had to have my oldest cat put to sleep. I couldn't even mention it last night because I would've broken down. He was old, fluid starting accumulating in his lungs and belly, and then he started having trouble breathing.

He was stray (already fixed) that came around here in 2003, so I've had him for 14 years old. He was fully grown, so I'd say he was least 16 years old. I had another most favored cat than lived to be 21 before kidney failure got her.

Anyway it's been killing me. Digging the hole to bury him yesterday afternoon, I didn't think I was going to make it without breaking down. Then I got sort of ashamed of myself for being such a sentimental old softy about it all.

Short version...We came home and thought she was dead. Dug the hole in the backyard. As I placed her there her paw moved!

Took her inside and stroked/talked to her for over half an hour. She revived to the point where you could see her breathing but that was it.

Stopped petting her and let her go. She was gone in a few minutes. Sally was just waiting for us to get home before she left us.

She turned the car around and drove back home. Told them all to go to their rooms. Waited a week and made the trip to grandma's with angel children in the car.
The first car trip was done a week before the actual scheduled trip to grandma's.

Liberals are generally driven by emotion, not reason. That means they only care about the emotional content of what you say, not the reason/logic.

So stuff that makes them feel bad is bad, and stuff that makes them feel good is good.

Being mean to Muslims makes them feel bad, so it doesn't matter about blah blah deaths blah jihad.

It's a different language.

You have to make them feel bad about not doing anything about Muslims ... such as pointing out how rapefugees are raping all the womens; why do you hate women?

If you don't like making people feel bad ... your communication options are limited.

261 Sorry Ricardo, conflated two different AIM-54 tests.

The six target one involved three QT-33s,2 BQM-34As, and 1 BQM-34E. Raid in two waves, three each. Speeds varying from 0.6 Mach to 1.3. Altitude 23,000 to 24,000 feet. Range to targets from 50 nautical to 37 nautical.

Two QT-33s, 1 BQM-34A, and 1 BQM-34E were destroyed. 1 AIM-54A had a missile antenna control loop failure and missed the QT-33 while the BQM-34A that survived, the radar augmenter failed so the AIM-54 and the AWG-9 both lost it.

Another test involved a BQM-34A flying at an altitude of 50ft above the water at a speed Mach 0.75. The F-14 was at 10,000ft and fired at 22 nautical miles. The AIM-54A scored a lethal hit.

As for being a dogfight missile, in some tests the AIM-54 has pulled 16gs to kill their targets.

300 "Does anyone have a good, pithy argument on why trying to do something about the Islamic radicalization isn't racist/bigoted?"

There are plenty of those arguments ("Islam is not a race"), but the problem is that the people usually throwing out the race card about Islam aren't arguing in good faith or using reason; one cannot reason somebody out of a position they didn't reason themselves into in the first place.

With that being said, I think more reasonable people can be persuaded about the threat of Islam if the argument is framed about the jihadist interpretations of Islam - Wahhabism, Salafism, (and Khomenianism). The problem here is that this requires a bit of research and usually can't be summarized accurately in the span of a few minutes (or a few Tweets/FB posts).

Sometimes, you just gotta put it starkly like that. I'm in favor of not being killed, and unapologetic about it. Now I know that not every Muslim is a screaming wacko Jihadist. I used to work for an Israeli Arab (started off as a nice guy but became an a-hole after he injured his back), and had a number of Palestinian and Egyptian coworkers over the years who were truly great people and good Americans. Some assimilate and westernize pretty well.

These are their heretics, and we should be encouraging them to have a reformation and change the canon. Islam has a tragic flaw, in that it's not "inspired" as we say the Bible is - the Koran is all the literal dictation of God according to its author. That means every last sentence is 10 Commandments level Core Canon. So basically, if you're not killing Jews and installing their tribal feudalistic governments, you're not a good Muslim.

We need more bad Muslims, and we need to convince them to rewrite the book so that they are the good ones. Until then, being suspicious of Muslims isn't hate or bigotry, it's sanity.

about the Islamic radicalization isn't racist/bigoted? I need something

How about this?

The Christian religion has gone through several great and convulsive changes in its past, such as the Reformation. Let's hypothetically postulate that just such another change has occurred. For the worse, this time.

Now, after this doctrinal shift, dangerously high percentages of these radicalized new Christians want to impose a theocratic state. Not only where they live, for themselves, but everywhere and for everyone. A single unified Christian fundamentalist theocracy over the entire planet, controlling every living human. _The Handmaid's Tale_ on steroids and crystal meth.

A unified theocracy in which no other religion will be accorded equal status. Where most other religions will be immediately exterminated down to even their historical artifacts. Where unbelievers, apostates, and homosexuals will incur the death penalty. Where women will have a legal status hardly different from that of domestic cattle.

These new Christians openly speak of their intent to outbreed and outnumber everyone else. They proudly practice "demographic warfare" by having large families in plural marriages, often at public expense, to increase their political power and fighting ranks.

And, this radical new form of Christianity specifically sanctions murder at any and all scales necessary to accomplish its goal, from single homicides up to mass genocides, and has already accomplished several of the latter. They're working on the acquisition of weapons of mass destruction to finish the job.

There are some professed "moderates" in this new faith who claim that they don't want to do any of the things above. However, it's also a doctrinal tenet of this new Christian variant to allow and encourage deception in such matters, and it's impossible to be sure of anyone's bona fides.

Ask your neighbor: wouldn't you think that steps to forcibly suppress such a movement would be not merely desirable, but absolutely mandatory?

In one rhyming test that the computer flunked, the clue was a "boxing term for a hit below the belt." The correct phrase was "low blow," but Watson's puzzling response was "wang bang."

"He invented that," said Gondek, noting that nowhere among the tens of millions of words and phrases that had been loaded into the computer's memory did "wang bang" appear."

He sent it in to Buck with a letter that said, "This knife has sentimental value to me. I'm not claiming it's defective and I don't want a new knife. I damaged this knife due to my negligence. Please repair the knife and bill me for the cost."

He received his knife, beautifully cleaned and restored, with an invoice marked "No Charge."

353 "I read the other day that the F-35 poor dog fighting skills are very
much over blown. The problem is pilots who are used to the F-16. Once
pilots learn the new capabilities of the F-35 to brake and keep weapons
on target, they win the dog fights every time."

Count me as skeptical, as the only place I've heard this claim comes from an officer with the Norwegian air force.

Norway's military are facing increasing rumbles of political discontent about the enormous cost of that jet at a time when Norway is being repeatedly kneed in the stomach by the global oil price crash. And they are desperate to talk up the program with the voting public.

The reality with the F-35 is that it still hasn't been able to be realistically tested in an all-up, go-to-war, standardized-production article. And per the reports from the office of Dr. Gilmore (DoD's chief weapons tester), the schedule for accomplishing such tests with such an article continues to slip. It's going to be into the 2020 decade before those tests are done.

As for being able to "keep weapons on target", even a 40 year old antique jet has a chance to win a close range dogfight today. No high gees or nose-pointing required. HOBS (high off-boresight) missiles and helmet-mounted cueing of same have changed the dynamics of air combat.

Just curious to hear a response because my father was a muslim and knew most of it by heart like muslims are supposed to. He never spouted any of this jew hating infidel killing crap people usually lob out.

He was Persian and its no secret arabs and Iranians don't get along. In my home growing up Islam and Christianity together wasn't a four letter word. He always cautioned me from getting in with the "uncivilized zealot arab". He was very wary of fanaticism and spoke of the poor and uneducated who believed anything that was told to them. Interpretation of the sura was a big thing. Reading the koran in english is laughable because you lose the meanings of the words.

I know this will fall on deaf ears or I'll get shit for it but I don't give a fuck. I'm very weary of generalizing a group of people based on the actions of fanatics. But If this problem is not addressed we are in for a fight for our civilization. There are a lot of ignorant, dumb and evil people on that side of the world that only understand death and violence and we are going to be forced to bring it to them one day I fear. I know my father did his part trying to shut down the ayatollah snd his freaks. They eventually won and he never returned in his life.

395 224 Does anyone have a good, pithy argument on why trying to do something about the Islamic radicalization isn't racist/bigoted?
------------------------
Didn't the head imam of Brussels come out and say that mosques SHOULD be monitored for radical propaganda?
The president of Egypt has stated that jihadism is toxic to MUSLIM countries. The kings of Jordan and Morocco have said similar things. Most Muslim governments expend a lot of effort trying to do something about this extremism.

Are these people "racist" or "bigoted?" Are they anti-Islamic?

Your lefty friend seems to think that being anti-jihadi is the same as being anti-Muslim. But it is an article of the leftist faith that jihadism is a heretical aberration from the true Islam. To equate the two is to be an Islamophobic bigot.

Your friend needs sensitivity counseling at the nearest camp. S/he is slandering the religion of peace!

I know Muslims who have done charity work *in Israel*. For Israelis.

I have known Muslims who have fought Jihadis.

I have also known unserious Muslims who just kind of follow a few restrictions but otherwise live "normally" for Western people.

The problem is *NOBODY* has it in their interests for there to be non-radical Muslims. Jihadis hate them as backsliders, Muslim governments can't get them all wound up over useless crap, leftists have secret contempt for them as inauthentic, and everyone (not without reason) traumatized by Jihadism doesn't even see them because it's not like the MFM gets a ratings boost for highlighting them, because CAIR and the left disapprove.

You see them occasionally on TV but I actually see them more IRL.

But people love to get #^*&^#(&# wound up, and that doesn't do it for anybody.

And the "non wackos" have a huge uphill road because the jihadis want to kill them, too. That keeps some of them quiet as well.

The hadith, which are sayings of the prophet (as they say). That's right, those dumb bastards are organizing society around the sayings of a 1,500 year old nomad and his uncivilized buddies.

This is where my father always cautioned me about believing this crap. That's where the 27 virgins comes from and wiping your ass with the left hand.

There is also a belief in nullification of parts of the koran. Some mullah didn't like a part , he would use a hadith to nullify the surah. Like say for example the surah in the koran that allows for marrying christians and jews or acknowledgement of the Torah and the gospels of christ. I don't know the classical arbaic word for it.

And some people would reject it and keep doin' their old thang.

Such a "reform" can't be done. It just can't.

There's a reason why the muslim country that people used to love to point to as a "modern" islamic democracy was the way it was. Because Ataturk understood the savage nature of islam and government and understood that you can't take the drive to govern out of islam. You can only fight it off. Constantly.

And there's a reason why that country has now turned back to into the islamic chasm - much thanks to the EU and its total ignorance of islam for that one.

I'm tinkering with asking them what it takes for them to see it as simple cause and effect.
How many innocent people dying would it take? How many times must this happen before they are finally able to make the connection between a certain ideology and violence. Just a round number - 10,000? 50,000? How many deaths would it take? In how many places and ways? How savage does it have to be? Are poisoned nails packed in bombs nails sufficient to make the point? Teaching kids to behead Christians - is that not sufficiently savage?

497 So North Carolina passes a law saying that trannies can't use the wrong bathrooms. Everyone has to use the bathroom that matches up to the sex they were born with. The NYT reports on it here.
http://tinyurl.com/hrssw63

The reason I bring it up is the last couple of paragraphs of the piece, where naturally, they get a reaction from one of the oppressed:

Madeleine Gause, a transgender woman who grew up in Hickory, where as a boy she was often bullied in the bathroom, told lawmakers that forcing transgender women to use the men's room posed its own risks. "I can't use the men's room. I won't go back. It is unsafe for me," she said. "And it freaks people out when I go to the men's room. Would you want to go to the men's room with me?"

She added that the fears of sexual predators were overblown.

"People aren't getting raped and murdered," she said. "They are just going to the bathroom."

You see, other peoples' fears are overblown. But, of course, "her" fears are legitimate.

500 I'm trying to get into the treadmill habit. I'd like to say 'back in the treadmill habit' but I never stuck with it long enough.

Usually I'll read to pass the time but tonight I tried seeing if I liked anything on TV. I came across a, well, I suppose it's supposed to be a sitcom but it seemed like pure depression. I'm a little biased but I'm getting a bit annoyed by wealthy comedians who want to wallow in this sort of thing after they've gotten free of it. It's called 'Baskets,' with Zach Gallifinakis (co-creator with Louis C.K.) as twin brothers Chip and Dale. They have completely opposite personalities in that they're completely unlikable for differing reasons. Louie Anderson in drag, I'm not kidding, is their mother.

The episode ended with Chip standing on a railroad bridge, which was where his father apparently ended his life, and Chip considering the same. This seemed entirely reasonable but a train came along and he ran to jump into a open boxcar.

I guess I'm not sophisticated enough to appreciate this. It didn't seemed to contain any actual humor, just a lot of 'wow, isn't everybody in this an incredibly awful person or living a hellish existence?'

I guess your idea of funny changes after a few seven digit paydays.

502 So here's my weird violent guy with a machete story:

In 2008, spring break, I lived in an apartment that overlooked the community pool. There had been a raging party going on down there for a week and each day it got progressively more and more rowdy.

I came home on a Friday evening to find these people building a bonfire. Underneath trees. That were a few feet away from an apartment building.

You might say I overreacted by calling 911. But I would say fuck you, you weren't there watching the bs going on down there for a whole gd week.

I may have made a mistake by calling 911 from my balcony, granted. But how else was I going to let them know how fucking stupid they were. I was just asking questions, like "How fucking stupid are you?" and "What is fucking wrong with you?'.

Sadly, a mob formed beneath my balcony and began to throw tree limbs, beer bottles, patio furniture, anything throwable really, at me.

Another mistake I may have made was throwing it all back at them (with far better accuracy and damage). But the upshot was that I realized that the only thing I had to protect myself with was a machete I kept behind my door. 911 was recording all of this.

So, I told the mob below me (it was around a dozen) that I was going to shoot every fucking one of them. And to prove that I was serious, I pointed my finger at them, like a gun (idk, bang bang your dead type gesture). Then to cap it all of and reinforce my argument, I started yelling,"I got bullet for you and you and you, etc."

So, the Austin PD stopped by and asked to have a chat, which we did. While we discussed nothing in particular the pool party people were busy trying to beat up every cop that showed up (like every cop in the district was there). A lot of them went to jail, tired and in pain I was told.

So, The Unpleasantness began. My trips to the mailbox became very confrontational (as opposed to the usual and uneventful). In fact, someone pried the door off of my mailbox. Complete strangers began flipping me off and yelling rude things at me. "Joe Millenial is still in jail because of you motherfucker!" Things like that. And my response was the same as the one I gave them mob, bang bang bitches, come over and eat some hot lead from my machete.

Then the problems began. I started having weird dreams. The kind where I thought I was awake and someone was trying to break my front door. And I would dream of walking into my living room and seeing it filled with people who would attack me. Then I would wake up and not be able to go back to sleep. This went on for a month. I'd never had dreams like this before. It was like I was actually awake.

One night, I was up late. Around 4 in the morning. In my living room watching a movie. I saw my doorknob twitching. Then I could see the door flexing as some began to kick at the lock. I ran to the door, grabbed my machete, and waited. Nothing else happened.

That day, I bought my first handgun - SW Sigma .40 with laser(mock if you must). Still have it. Bought a Hi Point .40 carbine to match (mock if you must). I have since moved. Also, gave my machete to the gf. She's gun averse, we're working it out.

The thing was that from that point on I awoke when I started having those dreams. It was the same thing over and over again though. Twitching doorknob, kicking the door. Whoever this was, never made it inside. Then it wouldn't happen for a few days. Then weeks. Then it stopped happening.

And this is the end of the weird violent guy with a machete story.

510 As usual, the hissie fitters are having a hissy fit.

What the law does is prevent every two bit podunk or some maxie douche town with a lot of vocal trannies from passing their own precious little laws about what toilet people can use.

Doesn't discriminate against anyone.

Now if they (the hissie fitters and others) wish to have a law about toilet privileges, they have to go to the state to get it done.

Because it's a lot easier to screw with a town's politics than the state's politics.

This prevents there from being a bunch of conflicting laws from town to town and no one knows what is which.

PA did the same thing for firearms laws and some cities are still holding out that they somehow have the right to their own laws regardless of what the state laws are. Interestingly enough it's Harrisburg the state capitol that is causing the most trouble.

And it makes a kind of sense as there are enough cities that have decided they can pass any idiot law they wish and then put you in jail because you didn't realize that they consider themselves part of Cloud CooKooLand when it comes to some point of conduct.

So it's all sturm and drang and all the poor trannies will have to pee where they always have so far until they can manage to change the laws state wide. And that's not a bad thing because at least there will be a uniformity that will be state wide which allows visitors to know what's okay and what's not.

515 Before the revolution, Iran was a very different place. But then, there were a number of places in the Islamic world that seemed to be moving into the modern world back in the 70s.

Only in places where islam was very powerfully held down. Turkey had temporarily solved their islamic problem by giving the secular military supreme power ... which the EU demanded be rescinded in 2003, in order for Turkey to be considered for membership (as if the EU ever had any intention of letting the Turks in - and they shouldn't). We all know how Turkey's gone since then.

Actually, pan-arabism was generally secular but they were still a major threat to us. Global terrorism in the modern age was kicked off by secular arabs blowing the shit out of airplanes and shooting up everything in sight. It wasn't a bunch of jihadis that attack the Munich Olympics but secular arabs.

Back in those days the Soviet Union was the number one sponsor of global terrorism, through their arab clients. The latest development of pan-islamism in the arab world is rather recent (and given a huge boost by Barky's actions WRT the "arab spring"). Before that, the threat from arabs had been almost entirely secular.

And also should appear to be the appropriate sex.

The concern is that too broad or loose a definition would allow some random male with assault on their mind to go into women's toilets and if the cops are called would be able to claim they're a tranny and avoid justice.

No one seems bothered by the women's loss of privacy it's all about the poor trannies and how they feelz.

Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes. Thanks for the news, Vic.

Since it's Good Friday, I like to recommend each year a movie I think worth watching.

No Easter season would be complete without binging on Ben-Hur or Jesus of Nazareth or The Ten Commandments, but I've recommended in the past adding The Miracle Maker to your list.

MM is a2000 combination stop-motion animation, hand-drawn animation and digital effect movie produced by two studios in Wales and Russia which tells the story of Jesus' life and passion from the point of view of a young girl named Tamar, who is presented as the daughter of Jairus the synagogue leader, whom Jesus raised from the dead (Luke 8:41).

Ralph Finnes takes the role of Jesus, and his gently commanding voice makes the Savior's preaching seem new and revelatory - my favorite is the way he chuckles his way through the parable of the man who built his house on sand.

Of course, with a running time of 90 minutes, not everything could be included: you won't find the feeding of the 5000, nor the Annunciation nor even the Roman guards at the tomb. But what is there is remarkable, and, for believers and non-believers alike, a genuinely profound depiction of the gospel narratives. One reviewer called it "a small miracle in itself," and I highly recommend it.

Here's a trailer for it:

Hope you all have a wonderful Easter.

I think so.
As long as it's not primarily about secondary stuff.

Race has almost everything to do with national origin, the new world is
the partial exception but it too was segmented by the old world.

Hispanic is not a race, muslim is not a race,
Here are the currently recognized races by anthropologists:

Caucasian races (Aryans, Hamites, Semites)

Mongolian races (northern Mongolian, Chinese and Indo-Chinese, Japanese and Korean, Tibetan, Malayan, Polynesian, Maori, Micronesian, Eskimo, American Indian),

Negroid races (African, Hottentots, Melanesians/Papua, "Negrito", Australian Aborigine, Dravidians, Sinhalese)

Most muzzies fall under Semites which are Caucasians.

Giving Morons a set of rules is sort of like giving a kitten a cricket inside a paper bag.

It's gonna be fun to watch.

756 Sure ... It's dumb that a bench warrant got issued for a movie rental, but it sounds like the cops used a refreshing amount of common sense.

764 "which prohibits raids between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m."

And their soldiers are also prohibited from sleeping in tents on the ground; so in Afghanistan they had to take the time to build platforms for the tents. I'm sure the soldiers didn't write this rule.
