20 Good morning all.

From yesterday in 1944 - Anzio

Mar 10, 1944 - The EZ Dog Journal
Between shelling and air raids this was quite a day. A concentration (about 90 rds in 5 minutes) of 88's hit in town today. One hit the Brig medics house. Tore off one corner. No other damage. One plane shot down during air raid.

Mar 11, 1944 - no entry

88 refers to the German 88 mm Flug Abwehr Kanon (FLAK gun).
Flug = flight
Abwehr = defense
Kanon = cannon

Primarily an air defense weapon, it was actually a multipurpose cannon that was used for anti-tank, antipersonnel and anti-aircraft missions. It was one of the workhorses of the German Artillery. A telescopic sight allowed for direct targeting in line-of-sight, without spotters or FO's, which made it very effective as an anti-tank weapon.

Posted by: J.J. Sefton at March 11, 2016 07:11 AM (p4UlV)

That's not a slam dunk case. There is a lot of debate over how much the tariffs impacted/caused the Great Depression.

Smoot-Hawley has been unjustly blamed for the Depression. But trade declined because of the Depression itself, not because of anything it did. Two-thirds of the drop in trade during the Depression happened before it even came into effect, and only about one-third of our imports were even affected by it. (The rest were duty-free.) If tariff rates had caused the decline in trade, then imports of dutiable goods should have declined more than imports of duty-free goods. But when Smoot-Hawley went into effect in 1931, duty-free imports dropped 52 percent and dutiable imports only 51 percent.

Shearer, William; Fletcher, Ian (2012-02-29). The Conservative Case Against Free Trade (p. 10). The Conservative Caucus. Kindle Edition.

Second, trade was not a significant part of US GDP up until the late 60's.

We wouldn't have Intel if it weren't for the protections Reagan implemented to stop foreign chip dumping. Our industry is being slaughtered and it isn't just because of unions and regulations.

107 Speaking of Bowie, I found this really cool and funny tribute on youtube last night:

http://preview.tinyurl.com/z963dxs

A collection of humorous moments on talk shows and onstage. He was a really funny guy. Such an anti-celebrity. Never took himself too seriously and he was very self-deprecating.

Two parts of this vid that had me rolling:

1. In the Ziggy years, trying to get the blokes in his band to dress the part of the Spiders from Mars and facing a big backlash till they found out they had girls throwing themselves at them. Then it was all "'ey mate, where's my fookin' mascara?"

2. The part where he describes taking his teenaged son to a concert and his son came down the stairs with multi-colored hair. Bowie started to say "I'm not going out with you in public like tha-" and then went, "oh, right, what am *I* gonna say about that?"

Good morning all.

From yesterday in 1944 - Anzio

Mar 10, 1944 - The EZ Dog Journal

Between shelling and air raids this was quite a day. A
concentration (about 90 rds in 5 minutes) of 88's hit in town today.
One hit the Brig medics house. Tore off one corner. No other damage.
One plane shot down during air raid.

Mar 11, 1944 - no entry

88 refers to the German 88 mm Flug Abwehr Kanon (FLAK gun).

Flug = flight

Abwehr = defense

Kanon = cannon

Primarily an air defense weapon, it was actually a multipurpose
cannon that was used for anti-tank, antipersonnel and anti-aircraft
missions. It was one of the workhorses of the German Artillery. A
telescopic sight allowed for direct targeting in line-of-sight, without
spotters or FO's, which made it very effective as an anti-tank weapon.

136 So Trump is now taking flak for saying that "Islam hates us."

I would like to know why anybody thinks that is not true.

Obviously, many muzzies have been trying to murder as many Americans as possible for years. Hence, WTC bombings, 9/11, Boston Marathon, Ft. Hood, San Bernardino, etc., etc. Then there are the many "Minnesota men" (a/k/a Somali muslim immigrants) who've been arrested for attending terrorist training camps (not to mention the many "Minnesota" women and men, a/k/a Somali muslim immigrants) who always rally at the courthouses to defend these wannabe terrorist scumbags.

But I'm not even talking about the rabidly murderous type of muzzies. I'm talking about everyday, mainstream, "peaceful" muzzies. The kind who don't believe in separation of church and state; don't believe in freedom of religion; don't believe in freedom of speech; don't believe in free markets; don't believe in equal civil rights for women; don't believe in any rights for gays; and who think Christians, Jews, atheists, etc., are inferior to muslims.

So what is it, exactly, that muslims "love" about America or Americans? Our money? Our gullibility? Our stupidity?

The fact is that Trump is right. Muslims hate us, and everything we stand for. Even the ones who are not actively trying to murder us would happily vote to deprive Americans of all our most cherished freedoms and place us under the boot of a worldwide islamic caliphate.

So why do we sit back and continue to allow Obama to import muslims here by the millions? And why do we allow accusations of "islamophobia!" or "raaaaaacism!" to be hurled at anybody who dares to point out the obvious truths about how incredibly stupid and self-destructive this is?

Well, the GOP, despite what I said above, isn't "my party," but no matter.

I understand the point you're making, which is "why give the enemy ammunition against you?" but you know, of course, that Trump could be the second coming of Christ and Scankles and the MFM (BIRM) would still find a way to paint him as Satan incarnate; the "Daisy Ad" and all that.

But I believe a larger statement needs to be made, which is that - in the case of BLM thugs - you are racist dillholes who have been getting a free pass for your thuggery and arson because of your color. You need to be prosecuted and held to account. And if you get cold-cocked or tased while being hustled out of a Trump rally - a rally you are there only to disrupt - then I'm not shedding a single tear. But YMMV.

It doesn't lead to much of anything in my opinion.

The latest topic seems to be "Christians: How Can They Support Trump?" all of the chin-wagers are pondering this serious topic to drain it of all of its seriousness because Trump is so awful it is certain no Christian can support him.

Perhaps - and this is a wild idea so give it some thought - perhaps many Christians are not one-dimensional people and are affected by many other interests, and like all individual people they will choose what interest of theirs seems to be uppermost, and it may not be their religion.

I know, what a crazy idea, eh?

I'm just giving my observation. It could be a case of "How can I convince these folks to not support this candidate - I know! They're Christians so I'll just emphasize how morally repugnant he is. They're simple and easily swayed by that."

Then again, maybe not. But the herd and flocking mentality prevalent in the chin-wagging crowd is pretty strong.

This is the lowest of the low - and it's not even she said/she said disagreement. ----------
I saw a Christian piece that was fairly on point regarding that matter. Boiled down, it went "I'm supporting Trump for President, not Pope." and then spent two pages repeating this in more detail about how Trump isn't running for head of church and the writer isn't voting for head of church and will everyone please shut up already about how Trump has done un-Christian things that should disqualify him from being head of church because it's irrelevant, nobody's nominating him for head of church.
