Decision Desk Reminder And Bleg

Not quite "super" Tuesday but still a BFD as Joe Biden would say.

The big news will be whether the anti-Trump forces in the GOP are a real thing or if Saturday was a blip on the radar for him. If Ted Cruz has similar day of voting momentum we saw in Louisiana he may be able to pick off Mississippi, which doesn't have nearly as much early voting as Louisiana did but unlike Louisiana is an open primary which benefits Trump.

In Michigan, another open primary, if Cruz can steal a page from the Rubio playbook and get a "big second place win" in a state he'd normally not be thought to be strong in, the #neverTrump movement might be real.

Of course the Decision Desk will have all the results tonight. And if you want access to our exclusive real-time prediction window or just support the project, you need to sign up for our daily newsletter.

And if you live in or around Mississippi and have some free time tonight (starting at around 6:45) we need a volunteer to help on the ground in the Gulfport-Biloxi MS area, also in Jackson Co MS. If you're interested, drop Brandon an email at: Contact@DecisionDeskHQ.com

If Cruz soon surges past Trump, watch for the gope then trying to undermine Cruz.

Posted by: eman at March 08, 2016 09:53 AM (MQEz6)

22 The Romney Jolt was timed to help the anti-Trumps, and the big dick debate also spiked Trump some. That has probably worn off, but the big money attack ads are blanketing the hot spots now.

Trump mostly speaks of himself and how HUUGE his support is. He could make a case on trade, and put the Cruz TPP support on display. But he doesn't seem to have those skills, to really convince on details. He needs to expose the globalists as the American enemy.

Michigan will be a big test, since that is supposedly the "strong on trade" winner for blue collar workers. Trump is the best "Americanist" but has to go beyond bluster. And he need to open his wallet now, but he seems content to squeak by as cheaply as possible. That might be his undoing.

If Cruz actually (very very small chance) got the nomination, he should offer VP to Trump in his acceptance speech where he would (as per one of the early debates) be soundly rejected.

I strongly doubt the GPOe would undermine him, though. He's distasteful to them, but the only shot at not self-destructing the entire GOP.

If Trump actually accepted VP in public, it would create an amusing dilemma, wouldn't it?

I actually ran into Mickey years later in PR. Out dive shop was in a big hotel and we also had an awesome bar that looked out over the pools and then on to the ocean. Mickey sat at the bar and held court for a few days. He was very nice to me and gave me an autograph for my mom who adored him. She thought he looked like my dad.

Our primary is next week and I'm truly stuck on the hornies of a dilemma, as Yosemite Sam might say.

I'm a Cruzer and really like his platform and principles. OTOH, Donald Trump's Hair scares the global elitists who want their anti-American candidates in orifice in this, my beloved country.

Cruz has momentum and wins many of the closed primary states like mine. Trump will have more of an effect on our society at large, which I view as being very important since, as the late, great Andrew Brietbart said, is upstream of politics.

All of the people I consider my enemies hate both of them.

What to do?

I'd like to vote for Cruz, yet if he wins, Trump might not get the clear majority of delegates he needs going into the convention. I'd be perfectly willing to vote for Cruz next week, then Trump in November.

If I was dead, I could vote for them both several times, along with buzzion, so there's that.

Oh, definitely a true American hero. Left baseball to fight in two wars. Was John Glenn's wingman in Korea.

He was the best hitter ever. Some say he was the best fighter pilot. He wanted to be the best fly fisherman ever.

The thing is, and this is from accounts from his friends, not just the press, he had no understanding of people who were not perfect. He would fly into a rage if someone blew a cast over a clearly catchable fish.

I've read things by Johnny Pesky and others who said they just learned to roll their eyes and take their turn in the barrel.

He was a perfectionist who just didn't understand the lack of perfection.

It says something about his as a man that his children are bitterly fighting with him to this day. I don't remember if they've bothered to keep up the payments on his frozen head.

90 Michigan is a closed primary
Party affiliation is not a criterion for voting.

Votes ask for, and receive the party ballot of their choice.

Voters in closed primaries must state the party primary they wish to participate in before being issued a ballot. The ballot given to voters only has candidates of the party that corresponds to the voter’s choice

100 I'm starting to realize Trump's best bet is for actually for Kasich and Rubio to win their states.

Why? Because then they stay in the race.

Trump loses by double digits to everyone else in the race and probably can't ever get to 55% of the GOP, so his best chance is a three-man race through all the late WTA states, which are around 500 delegates.

So losing the 200 or so delegates in FL+OH might actually be to Trump's benefit in the long run.

But she did all this to facilitate intentionally passing classified docs with Clinton foundation staff and outsiders (like Blumenthal*) for billions in foundation profit**. I suspect there are a little of both. I'm open to the idea that even if they are really democrats, once they vote for Trump they are likely to vote for him again. But at what cost? Does taking in those disaffected Dems outweigh the cost of losing principled conservatives? I don't know that answer.

198 Baseball has been around for quite some time. It was Cap Anson who refused to play against a team that had a black catcher (Moses Fleetwood Walker). So if Ty Cobb was racist, he was just a second-generation me-too racist. Bush League?

In a slump, Kirk Gibson was sent down for a while to the Toledo Mud Hens. One night, warming up in the batter's box, Gibby heard a fan behind the plate mocking him for his season so far. He walked over to the wall and cold-cocked the fan.

249 A few years ago, I got into a fight with a SJW on a baseball site because the SJW was saying Cobb should be kicked out of the HOF because racist. I said the HOF is not about who were the least racist, or nicest or most charming players but about who were the best. And Cobb makes it into the top 5 in every list I've seen.

Of course, the SJW said that was because the people making the lists are racey racists....too many white guys in the HOF!

I expect to see serious efforts by SJWs to boot players out of the Hall in upcoming years. Stats? Who cares about stats? Was he nice to Jackie Robinson?

That is the "we'll vote for Hillary over Trump, globalist approach. The globalists are already destroying the country, but upper middle are happy as long as their (globalist) stock market stays in bubble territory (via fed manipulation).

They will take the long knives out for Cruz later, but he is useful for now. They fear Trump can actually take it away from the globalists and hard left. I'm not gonna go this far, but I can't disagree with this old guy's main point either.

I am bemused by the vitriol of conservative #nevertrumpers. Having pushed against the Obama bubble without success for so long they accepted, after 2012, that they were preaching principled helplessness to the choir. Now the choir is leaving for a preacher who promises reward in this life instead of the next and the response is... disappointing.

I see them now the way liberals must have seen us all for the past 15 years: annoying but powerless sycophants who have accepted martyrdom.

The phrase "more in sorrow than in anger" has always felt smug, but it's very real to me now. Take your ball and go home, then. I am not your enemy.

----------

Agree on both points. On the latter, Rubio's attacks on Trump didn't do him in, but it may have accelerated his descent.

On the former, I agree, but perhaps Cruz wants to be in a stronger position to really go on the attack. That is by getting Rubio to drop out. Or he thinks that if he attacks too strong he may alienate those few voters who are still just Trump curious. Finally, Cruz could play the game that if we do go to a brokered convention, his longshot and best case is for Trump to support Cruz - so why unnecessarily antagonize him.

If Cruz wins this nomination (a big if but play along), we will look back at this as one of the most well run tactical campaigns in a long while.

If he loses, I think we will always say he was a longshot - not that he lost a winnable nomination.

What I truly believe Trump will bring to America is quite a bit of suffering. He's just not what I want in a President, no matter how pissed off I am. He's as narcissistic as Obama. If Cruz loses, it will be because the same reason every other candidate did. They were afraid to take on Trump and hoped fate would take him out. So they all squabbled among themselves until it was too late.

And Cruz was NOT a long shot candidate, I believe he had FAR more campaign money than any other candidate besides Jeb. He was well known before he ran for President on a national stage, far more of a household name than when Obama took on Hillary.

Trump WAS a longshot candidate and would have EASILY been taken out had we had a candidate with some balls that knew how to throw a punch.

I get blasted for being a Trump supporter for merely pointing out the hypocrisy of the attacks made against him by both, the Left AND the Establishment Right, and how he just continues on. I don't see Trump as a solution but more of a symptom of the problem. My party left me and others behind. This support for a guy like Trump isn't a tamtrum, it's a revolt. Voter version of "Shock and Awe".
It may not end well, but it may reset the playing field unlike any other time in recent memory, and I think it has been coming for years.

411 There is no Anti-Trump coalition. This is a three way fight:

1. Trump Supporters
2. Cruz Supporters
3. Establishment Supporters

Most of the establishment supporters have already admitted they will support Hillary Clinton before Trump or Cruz. If they can achieve a brokered convention they will happily make Mittens the next GOP nominee. They don't care if Trump runs as a 3rd party candidate, or what Cruz will say or do in an event of Mittens/Ryan II nomination, and they don't care if Hillary wins.

They will still be in power of the GOP if they get a brokered convention and Hillary wins the presidency. That to them it is better than Trump or Cruz. That is all that matters to them, and all that ever has.

To me the only questions that should matter to those not part of the establishment is:

1. Can Cruz or Trump win the nomination outright?
2. If neither do, will Trump and Cruz be able to put aside their hatred for each other, political differences, and egos to ally with one another?

Considering Trump said Cruz is not eligible for the Presidency and Cruz's people have called Trump "Hitler"..I suspect question No.2 is a big no. However, if the establishment retains power of the GOP after this election good luck on ever getting them out of power again. The result - Get ready for a big helping of Amnesty and Islamic outreach from that point on.

That is why the battle over who is "conservative" is irrelevant to me at this point. This is about who will destroy the establishment before they can destroy you. If you are a Cruz supporter what do you think an empowered GOPe will do to Cruz after this election is over? It is not pretty...

Much of it is out there already. Plus, when you are comparing Trump to Hillary, she comes out MUCH worse. If we are talking bad business deals or bankruptcies vs. her multitude of scandals that involve federal law breaking, I can guarantee you Trump will come out better.

Trump has the cross over capability that Cruz will never have. Cruz will be stuck battling for the same swing states as always, and it will be difficult with the televangelist ad playing every day in Ohio or Florida. It will freak people out.

Plus, Trump's bad stuff (a lot of it) has been out in the news for decades. He is still successful. He still has great kids. He still has employees who love him. He still has good relationships with his ex-wives. Proves he can do what he says.

Cruz just has a few years in a Senate seat and that's about it. With a wife in banking, it also brings up questions. Additionally, just did the research last night...Cruz barely has ANY endorsements. Trump has a mega list of them you can find on Wikipedia. From all walks of life...political, business, entertainment, local and state politicians. Why is that? Why will no one stand up for Cruz? Where are the Tea Party people in Congress? Just saying...it is oddly quiet.

A sultry femme fatale smoking an ivory-filtered cigarette on the balcony?

No,the High Illustrious Poobahs of the GOP Establishmentweren't meeting to stop Trump or Cruz. They were meeting to stop us, you and me, the bitterly clinging, flyover countryhoi-polloi. Trump isn't a street fighter. He's a runaway Mack Truck. He's clumsy and doesn't know when to shut up. His attacks on Hillary will be personal and will likely offend many women on both sides of the aisle. He risks alienating the very people he needs support from.

Cruz, on the other hand, is a street fighter and has argued cases in the Supreme Court. He's able to cut to the bone with policy, job performance and moral character attacks. Hillary is an easy target for that. Cruz can destroy her without pissing off half the country with comments about her bleeding sniz or his dick size.

You are responding as if these were MY feelings about Cruz. I was merely telling you what voters are talking about in the Republican party and how that might affect the national elections if it were Cruz/Hillary. These will be difficult issues for Cruz to overcome b/c he doesn't have the crossover appeal like Trump.

Look, if Trump loses some hyper conservatives in some Red State, he can still win the Red State in the fall. However, he can also possibly win NJ, NY, OH, MI, PA, etc....states that Cruz could NEVER win. Cruz winning MORE Republican votes in states that already vote Republican is not going to help Cruz win in the fall. He will need to win FL, OH, etc. the swing states. And Cruz's plan is to motivate MORE Republicans in those states to vote. This is a very narrow path to winning.

Trump's plan is to win BLUE states, and I think he can. A much surer path to win. He has a good chance to win NY. And did you see the numbers that came out for him in Massachussetts?

I am merely talking about WHY some voters may not vote for Cruz. His mountain is a lot harder to climb. Don't attack ME for the information I'm putting out there. I'm just trying to think through the different outcomes.

I can do the same thing to most of your other arguments and I'm on your side. There are two things that will change minds.

1) Trump actually winning >1237 delegates
2) Some kind of turning-point moment at a debate or televised event like Marco's robot moment that will push ~5% of voters into or out of one candidates' camp.

BC is on his way to the hospital now. If you can, please spare a

The answer to that is that Ted is a constitutionalist who certainly understands the separation of Church and State.

566 Heard Beck this morning for a few minutes. His daily anti Trump discussion was interlaced with both he and his assistants asserting all these opinions about today's primaries, and stating that none of them were open.

Michigan and Mississippi are both open, in that you can vote for either party's candidates regardless of your registration.
Idaho has a closed primary, however, if someone has not had a party registration, they can vote today as an unaffiliated voter if the Republican party has opened up that option, which I'm not sure they have.
Hawaii is a caucus.

Beck is truly a misinformation machine. After this discussion, he later began talking about some story he heard in which it was told that whenever Donald Trump visited his Atlantic Casino, all of the black casino employees knew they were to leave the area where he would be located. Said he didn't know if it was true or not, but the employees believed it was true.

If you want anymore evidence that the GOPe is wanting a split vote and delegate count this is it. It also prove Romney is angling for the job. Rubio and Kasich are probably playing for the VP spot under Romney.

When was the last time a prominent Republican did robo calls for TWO candidates running in the GOP primary? Notice who Romney is NOT doing robo calls for...that tells you where Cruz stands with the GOPe and if it is a brokered convention.

Either the revolution against the GOPe happens now, or never will.
