Hell, that might make it worth it.

22 So, even though Cruz beat expectations in Texas, won in 2 other states, outperformed expectations more than the other candidates - all of the news is Rubio and Trump.

HotAir doesn't have a single post about Cruz, other than one in which the headline is, "Everyone was a winner last night"

RedState does have one post about Cruz, but many more about Rubio, and the Rubio ones are displayed more prominently

National Reviubio - nothing even acknowledging Cruz is running

For whatever reason, they simply refuse to acknowledge Cruz.

45 Happy Texas Independence Day.

I wrote this for when the free state of Texas needs its new national anthem. (So far Oklahoma and Alaska can come with, but it'll still be called Texas.) 1) Hope you enjoy. 2) Move here already.

TEXAS NATIONAL ANTHEM

Texas, Texas - Rich and favored Texas
How infinite the ways that God has blessed us!
Where gas and oil overflow in excess
And every child has at least one Lexus
Texas!

Texas, Texas - Strong and mighty Texas
Constant daily exercise perfects us
Who's got massive arms and traps and pecs? Us!
Who rips shirts to pieces when we flex? Us!
Texas!

Texas, Texas - Shining jewel, Texas!
The beauty of our womenfolk perplexes!
For drop-dead gorgeous ladies, we're the nexus
It's stating simple fact; it isn't sexist
Texas!

Texas, Texas - Ever-growing Texas
Having babies, finding what the sex is
Loyalty and love are both infectious
Will we live and die for her? Oh, hecks yes!
Texas!

Texas, Texas - Land of envy, Texas
Lesser people hope disaster wrecks us
They call us nasty names or voodoo-hex us
We watch them act in vain; even their best sucks
Texas!

Texas, Texas - Proud and noble Texas
Fiercer than a billion T. Rexes
To each and every fool who disrespects us:
We'll boot you in the face and solar plexus
Texas!

Texas, Texas - Lone and peerless Texas
Treating other states like needy exes
Whether far, or near, or even next us
We know you miss us - please don't call or text us
Texas!

Texas, Texas - Independent Texas!
We'll need the Constitution; please FedEx us
The rights enshrined therein are what connects us
A tall, electric border wall protects us
Texas!

There are parts of the state that are still worth a visit. Just don't assume that basic public services will function worth a damn. And don't try to, y'know, settle down or start a business here.

If you wait another fifteen years, you may be able to ride our gorgeous new high speed rail line, "The Brown Streak", in between Madera and Corcoran: connecting a place no one can find with a place no one would ever want to go to.

103 That Ted Cruz has won Texas, Oklahoma, and Alaska is a fact. This fact leads me to one conclusion. He must withdraw from the race along with all of the others - under mortar fire if need be - and cede everything to the one candidate who can beat Donald Trump and then lose the general with the grace that we expect from the GOP.

Let's hear it for our compromise candidate -

*sounds of scuffling and muffled yells as Mikey is dragged off*

"Ladies and gentlemen, ignore that insane haberdasher and cheap general goods merchant. There is no plot to replace all of the candidates with a new candidate and beat Doanld Trump, lose to Hillary, and preserve the status quo. Trust me. And the word of the Bow Tie Conservative Club is money in the bank."

141 Delegate math:

http://preview.tinyurl.com/z6mt7qy

Should the dead-enders stick with Rubio, Kasich and Carson, Trumps gets all of the 808 delegates in winner take all states (less, possibly 54 in the two DC area states). Based on current totals, he needs 167 of the other 983 (some of which he's already getting because RCP doesn't account for all those given out last night). So he needs 1 in 6 when he's already gotten nearly half of those already doled out from proportional states. Which means if nothing changes, he will be well past the 1237 delegate threshold and be the winner of around or over 40 states.

So if you're #nevertrump, it's time to swallow your pride.

Or I suppose you could vote for the Libertarian candidate in protest, who appears to be... Jesse Ventura.

The idea that purposeless, undirected motion without an intelligible destination is a waste of effort and potentially quite dangerous? That never crosses the national mind. More's the pity.

177 When is Ace going to do a post on the number of people voting in these primaries? On both sides. It is fucking unbelievable how many people Trump is turning out. On the other side the total vote in some Democrat primary states this year is sometimes less than the vote total of one candidate (the winner of BO and Clinton obviously) in 2008.

Also it's a shame Sanders couldn't win some more states last night to prolong the inevitable Hillary win and it's nice to see Cruz do well, especially in relation to Little Marco. Unfortunately I think Trump's VP, if he somehow convinces the GOPe to not block his nomination, is more likely to be Rubio than Cruz if it has to be one of those two.

201 22 So, even though Cruz beat expectations in Texas, won in 2 other states, outperformed expectations more than the other candidates - all of the news is Rubio and Trump.

HotAir doesn't have a single post about Cruz, other than one in which the headline is, "Everyone was a winner last night"

RedState does have one post about Cruz, but many more about Rubio, and the Rubio ones are displayed more prominently.
--------------------------------------------------------------

Weekly Standard has a few paragraphs on Cruz and full length articles for both Trump (negative - of course) and Rubio (positive - of course). The "conservative" media hates Cruz just as much as the Establishment does, to say nothing of Fox News (wherever they fit into conservative vs. whoever else).

I'm pleased Ennio Morricone has finally won an Oscar which he has so richly deserved for the last half century but The Hateful Eight soundtrack sucks donkey dongs. I haven't seen the movie since I'm Quarantino-ing Tarantino for his racism and hate speech so I don't about how the music enhances the music but the soundtrack sucks. It's not all Ennio's fault. Tarantino's massive ego requires that there are lengthy dialogue cuts (including when Kurt Russell destroys that antique guitar). This is simply not an album you can put on an enjoy Ennio's magnificent melodies and harmonies.

Well, we'll always have Once Upon a Time in the West, Once Upon a Time in America, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, A Fistful of Dollars and so much more.

---
While it can't be denied that DDT has fervent supporters and is helping to drive an increase in turnout, that needs to be parsed a little.

1-I think even without Trump there is a good chance there would have been at least historically very good and even potentially record turnout. Maybe not as yuuuugely record breaking, but big turnout. Many Repubs and conservatives (primarily conservatives) see this election as the last hill to stand on before the zombie hordes clear the border and would have turned out to get their voice heard even if it was supporting Cruz or Walker or Perry or Jindal.

2-While technically still a reason for driving turnout, it cannot be ignored that there are many people turning out solely to try and prevent Don from gaining the nomination. It's a reason but not exactly a positive in his favor (unless your of the "there is no bad publicity" mindset).

That is one of the most misrepresented quotes of all time. The colonists were not raising hell about lack of representation. Since the colonies were only allowed to trade with British companies who paid for their imports with goods instead of gold there was no gold in the colonies. And the local governments were confiscating property right and left due to unpaid taxes.

Name recognition on a national level has been estimated to cost over a billion dollars--at least according to the guy (whose name escapes me) who ran John Kerry's presidential campaign. Trump, thanks to his reality TV star status, received and maintainedhis own national name recognition (largely)for free.

Lack of national name recognition is arguably what essentially killed Carly Fiorina's campaign, among others.

328 Talk about in denial or just plain lying.

Cruz, who currently has lost 11 of 14 primaries, claiming that somehow the front runner can't beat Hillary Clinton.

Okay. Let's say that's true. If that's the case, then how does Cruz think HE can beat Hillary when he's less popular than Trump?

Both Cruz and Rubio are wish casting. And unless a really well orchestrated batch of skullduggery occurs, Trump will have the most delegates going into the Convention.

And Cruz won't even be close. Especially after April when the winner take all states start voting.

And there's a lot of delegates in that pile.

Turns out Rubio is taking votes from Cruz and not what they expected of him taking from Trump.

And that's because Trump has cross over voters. And Cruz isn't radical sounding enough.

Yeah he pisses the establishment off but it's Trump that's got them peeing in their pants.

Posted by: troyriser at March 02, 2016 12:02 PM (UWlp+)

I believe that what killed Carly's run was the attention she got at the beginning made people look closer at how she did in her California Senate run and what she says she stands for.

None of which resonated with Republicans/conservatives.

She'd make a good Republican run in a liberal state. Sort of like Romney in Mass. But that's not good enough nationally.

Nationally is more to the right than that. She was supporting immigration, amnesty etc. Played the gender card. Was against taking a closer look at what some Muslims are really up to and denying visas for those that don't make the grade.

Once people got to know her her numbers tanked.

No sarcasm...the man's political brilliance so far in this election is something no one, not even his (relatively recently acquired) die hard fans would have predicted. The GOP does not have a clue how to handle him.
Not sure if the DNC does or not...Don and the Dems have only been circling the dance floor so far. If he does win the nomination from a purley political standpoint, it is going to (continue to) be one of the most intriguing elections in history.

I have been fighting this battle ever since Perot hove into view.

Somewhere, somehow, people got it in their head that voting was some sort of plebiscite regarding their own character. As though voting (or not voting) would somehow 'send a message' to this party or that party.

People become so bound up in their egos and the the quest for smug self-righteousness that they forget altogether, or subsume the fact that the election isn't about them , or their principles. It's about WHO is going to occupy the damned office.

The choice is A or B. If one can really discern no difference, then so be it, but if there is any sense at all that one or the other, worst case, will do less damage, then it's time to go to the polls.

Millions of people have labored, fought, and died for this process. To sit on the side and pout is the act of a child. As always, just my perspective.

399 The Pentagon is launching a new program that invites hackers to attack Department of Defense websites for possible financial rewards, the first such bug bounty program in the federal government.

The program, which begins in April, essentially involves the Pentagon selecting a group of hackers, giving them Department targets, and asking them to do as much damage as possible and then report back what they found to help the DoD patching those holes, in exchange for some kind of reward.

Participants will be need to be registered and vetted, although a senior defense official said that the process for how they will be tested is still being worked out. All participants must be US citizens.

Actually I think this is a good idea. I am sure the first thing these "experts" will ask is " Who idiot designed these sites"?

413 Thinking about Trump...

The guy can come off sometimes as so reasonable. I haven't seen his press conf last night but Milady did and she and some on here have said he sounded good.

Then at other times he seems like a lunatic, ranting and frothing and raging and saying the worst things.

Could all just be a cagey, conscious act. Could be schizo. Although his supporters would probably say the former, I can't be sure it's not the latter.

In addition, he seems to be at his best when things are going his way, and at his worst when challenged or otherwise not on top of things. That seems symptomatic of the narcissist, of which we've had going on eight years already.

Please, I'm not trying to stir up a fight. Schitzo and Narciss don't even necessarily disqualify him. Wouldn't seem to make him reliable, though - more like, he could change to anything any time he wants... as he said.

Look not all of us are on board with Team Trump. In fact the majority of the voters are not. If Trump is as strong as you think, then he will go out and win a majority of the delegates. I'll wait until he does.

And I don't care what he did at the age of 3. I'm more worried that he wets his bead now.

431 Somewhere, somehow, people got it in their head that voting was some sort of plebiscite regarding their own character.

So now they're getting desperate ... cue the college-level SJW hijinks like the fake David Duke "endorsement". There will be more of that.

I really like Ted Cruz, but he just doesn't have the attitude or the armor to beat the MSM at their own game. Rubio would just roll over and wait them to rub his belly. Trump is Trump.

In addition, he seems to be at his best when things are going his

That seems symptomatic of the narcissist, of which we've had going on

They came under their own power to reap the economic benefits of the world's largest, most diverse economy, and they did it largely because they made the mental calculations that the risks were well worth the reward. You change that risk/reward balance, and these people will make rational economic decisions. You demand e-verify everywhere that files a tax return (meaning all employers), then you start fining companies a million dollars per illegal and prosecuting people who hire them - from the CEO to the cut-rate contractor who picks them up at Home Depot. You offer help with a ride home if they need it with the caveat that if they volunteer they will not be permanently banned from re-entry.
This is a problem that solves itself.

Every 4 years, there's a group of Republicans that threatens this. No matter who the nominee, somebody says this.

I don't think the pure conservative that doesn't show up is what has kept us out of the White House.

No doubt there will be a DC corridor of Republicans not voting for Trump, but I have yet to meet a Republican in my own life that has threatened to boycott the election or vote for Hillary because of Trump.

Most of these wounds will heal very shortly when Trump and Hillary start going at it.

608 Back in for one last thought about not voting.

One vote seems like such a little thing. Buried under primary techniques, conventioneering, vote fraud, and electoral college, what's one little vote.

And the hold-yer-nose problem, because you think the candidate would be bad for America. Totally understandable.

Problem is, bad as opposed to worse. As has been said, not voting is a vote for (concession to) the other side. If you want to let it burn, that's not a problem, but if you want to let it burn, why care about what would be bad for America?

Sorry if that's too much logic late in the thread.

BUT, there is one great difference between he and Hillary. Hillary is a hard-left, power-grasping politician. That is all she ever has been. She is driven by politics. Like most on the Left, she regards politics to be the only important thing in people's lives.

I don't think Trump cares a whit about politics. He has his own ideas about what can/should be done to re-establish America as preeminent on the Global Stage, but he does not evidence (to me) any hunger for raw political power, or the desire to control people's lives.
