20 It's in-fuck-buckling-comprehensible to me that a group of dyed-in-the-wool conservatives who held their noses and voted for McCain and Romney, two squish ring-kissers who never promised to do anything conservative or even disruptive, who are well known RINOs, and who most importantly never even sniffed a 5 point lead in their races against a lying creampuff narcissist, are willing to throw up their hands and start whinging about Hillary's inevitability in FEBRUARY because they don't care for Trump's pronunciation of "China."

Don't even try to pretend that true-blue conservative opposition to Trump isn't aesthetic. Liberals are not the only self-appointed intellectuals guilty of vanity in this epoch of American culture.

It's politics, boys and girls. You do unsavory things in pursuit of the least bad outcome. Good lord.

27 That is not the same as touch back amnesty. Whether one believes him or not is another matter. Sessions has said Trump is strongest on trade, though he also liked Cruz on border control. Sessions is a serious guy. He knows we have to win. I doubt he'd endorse Trump without having conviction he would follow through. And if we lose on that issue, we become socialist globalized serfs, having lost traditional America.

https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positions/immigration-reform

As I have posted before on here, USA immigration laws permit those who enter the country illegally or overstay their visa, to be deported and then after a five year waiting period, can reapply for entry. Those are laws currently on the books that so many do not know about or do not want to know about, because it doesn't fit the meme of deporting illegals means they are sentenced to a life of starvation, death, etc. in their home country.

I think tomorrow might be interesting with regards to how well Trump holds up in caucus states that he hasn't really built any kind of org. The Trump supporters I know have no clue that there's a caucus tomorrow night and I'm doing my best to not wisen them up.

73 So, the thing about the Ed Morrissey endorsement I see is

1) He calls Gang of Eight a mistake, but that suggests Tunio wants to do anything substantive different, which Rubio refuses to enunciate

2) Ignores CASA, which to me is as big a deal if not moreso than Gang of Eight. At least you can plausibly think Rubio got pushed by leadership to go in on the Gang of Eight. You can't make that argument for CASA.

3) We should vote for the guy who has one fifth place finish and no first place finishes because he's the most "electable."

106 Drudge has a story from Moscow of a Uzbekistan Muslim woman who was babysitting a four year old Russian child, decapitated it, set the apartment on fire, then walked around the streets of Moscow holding up the child's head and yelling Allah Ackbar.

Obviously the woman is deranged, but her religion has pointed the way for her to behave in that derangement.

They don't convert at all; they similarly remain the angry judgmental

"Dambusters" was a great movie (and that march, Damn), but they never used that technique again. It used up a lot of aircrew. Of course, shortly afterward, we were trying real hard to preserve dams in that area (Roer, nor Ruhr), not knock them out.

Harking back to a well-informed but wild-swinging exchange on Book Thread, the damage to the industrial area beneath those dams was not long-lasting. Probably "worth doing," but it didn't create near the chaos they'd hoped for.

323 Most people don't fit into the neat little caricature of "liberal" or "conservative". They may be one or the other, or usually something else more nuanced, or any particular issue. Democrats more than R's (imo) tend more toward the PC group think talking point mentality.

Another perspective that works better for Trump is "America First" or "Globalist". Trump is winning some union worker support (not the union bosses) by pushing America First. Clinton policy in sharing our nuke tech in the 90's with China was "multipolarity", a balance of powers maintained by US sharing our tech.

Of course all the globalist happy talk enriches a few, and belittles our national heritage.

Rush, and even Hannity to some extent, pal around with all of these people. I was surprised (shouldn't have been) to hear Rush talk about the many times he has had dinner with Megyn Kelly, and that she had been a guest at his house. It's just the way it is. Do I think they (Rush Hannity) are conservatives? Yes. But I think both are averse to making enemies which is why neither will support anyone in the primary.

This is why I like Levin more. Pulls no punches. Picks a candidate. Tells it like he sees it. Doesn't have as many friends in high places as a result. FOX hates him--Hannity is the only one that ever has him on.

"jezzuz gawd."

Actually, I applaud this. The 9/11 Commission Report was full of redactions, which is ridiculous nonsense.

And it's clear why those redactions were there. To protect our "friends" the Saudis. To conceal Clinton-era incompetence. And to conceal similar Bush-era incompetence.

I'm perfectly okay dragging ALL of that stuff out in the harsh direct sun.

But really, what the nation would do well with would be a second Commission, this one not stocked to the rafters with insiders, including ones implicated in the chain of causation of the attacks. (Jamie Gorelick herself sitting on the Commission? You gotta be shitting me.)

Also, as detailed in Shenon's book on the work of the Commission, the staff found a ton of new evidence in the NSA archives at literally the last minute, after the report had been written, voted on, approved, and sent to the printers. Instead of continuing their work and including this new material in an annex to the main report, the commissioners just... quietly ignored its existence. Nothing to see here! Move along, you looky-loos!

I would not be surprised if our existing pre 9/11 intelligence system had fair warning ... and sat on it out of pure PC fear of "bad optics" regarding arresting Muslims ... combined with a whiff of "they wouldn't dare" arrogance.

... and if that were true - it would really make justifying MORE surveillance on US Citizens awfully tough. Especially if the existing agencies would not act on info they already had.

Posted by: artisanal 'ette

The key is that New York and California are the absolute linchpins of any Democratic route to general election victory. Without both of them as the automatic starting points of the D electoral college vote, it is physically impossible for any Democrat to win the presidency. If Hillary lost NY, even if she went on to win [i[every single "swing state," she'd still lose the overall election.

All Trump would have to do is just campaign in NY and nowhere else, blanketing the state with ads as well, and Hillary could not overcome the barrage. (And even if he didn't campaign there at all, his name recognition alone would probably be enough for him to win there.)

THen with NY's electoral votes plus the not-even-in-play solid Republican states, he's already over 270 electoral votes. Game over.

If the goal is to keep Hillary out of the White House, this should be at least a bit encouraging.

So - we'll have two candidates for president who are happy to shit all over the 1st Amendment. But wherever and whatever Donald shits on is just fine according to the Trump-ettes. Until the day he takes a dump on them.

According to Hume, Trump is going to be the Republican nominee and he will lose badly in the general election against Hillary. He didn't explain why he thought that way, just said it as opinion.
He also said that the Republicans will possibly lose the Senate and could lose the House. Because of Trump, I guess.

He also said that Hillary will not be indicted, because he has read numerous legal opinions on having a private server in your home and some say it is illegal and other's say it's not. So he believes the Justice Department will go with no indictment, because when you think about it, when a major party nominates someone to run for President, is it really good for the country to have that person be indicted for something that really isn't a big deal in most legal circles?

Even Tantaros was speechless. She merely said that at the very least, a felony was committed for not having a secure server used for government emails......

Among the flaws in your argument is the notion that attending a religious service constitutes "taking away a group's religious liberty." Closing a church/ mosque/ whatever, or arresting ministers/ priests/ imams/ whatevers for purely religious reasons* would constitute an infringement of religious liberty. See the difference? Most religions would be thrilled to have non-believers show up, in the hopes that they might convert them.

I imagine a "spy" walking in, to open arms and words of welcome, and invitations to participate in everything.

526 There is ample precedent for "spying" on Christian churches, although it was mostly Democrats doing it, as things turned out. During WWI, German-speaking Lutherans were under close scrutiny, as were Orthodox catholics whose traditions came from "points east." If a congregation published a newspaper or bulletin (and most did) in a language other than English, certified translations had to be submitted in advance to postal authorities before they could be mailed, as a safeguard against sedition. Civilian, but officially connected, observers were appointed to keep an eye on what went on in religious observances. Virtually all German-language services ended. And, in the overwhelming majority, the congregants..."understood."

A whole lotsa-buncha Italian-source Catholics were detained in the early days of WWII. The numbers dwarf the Japanese interments. Everybody has had their turn in the barrel, when the homeland of their faith is at war with the United States.

527 Completely amazed that people believe the NYT propaganda piece.

Listening to Rush now regarding the supposed meeting with Schumer and Rubio:

Rubio was never there, it was Lindsey Graham and Schumer in 2011 - two years before G8B. It was Graham and Schumer that explained something had to be done about illegal immigration and they were looking to work on a bill, went through points to push, Rush said he'd support it if no voting rights were granted. Silence from Graham and Schumer.

It was a three-hour dinner with many people invited, not focused on amnesty alone, many topics discussed.

NYT article only quoted half of Rush's statement about Rubio being a conservative.

And on and on. Can't believe people who know and listen to Rush (and Levin and Ingraham) would believe the NYT, pushed by Breitbart/Trump. Mind-boggling.

532 I am not in favor of guilt by association, that is what the left does.

If the leaders of a specific mosque are reasonably suspected of being accomplices in a specific crime, and not just "because they're Muslim", then yes, they should get extra scrutiny.

It is interesting, when Trump says "spy on mosques", I think he means "he wants to spy on all of them, the innocent as well as the guilty, because he does not distinguish between ordinary Muslims and radical terrorists". Evidently you think he means "he wants to spy only on the guilty ones and leave the innocent ones alone". You think he's well-intentioned, I don't. I don't, because of his demonstrated authoritarian streak and his general lack of meaningful thought given to important constitutional issues in general.

Here is what Trump said:

535 394 Why does Rush call Rubio a conservative?

Because Rubio is a conservative on *most* issues?
Posted by: chemjeff

It reminds me of the War in Iraq. This ONE issue was the only litmus test. If any conservative said anything different they were a Marxist Muslim. Now every conservative says it was an enormous mistake that gave us 2 terms of Obama.
Posted by: Branson at February 29, 2016 12:41 PM (MOVsh)

Just because words that sound conservative come out of one's mouth when they are preaching to choirs during primary season does not mean they are conservative. He's failed to explain himself and suddenly takes an interest in many other things that, while not expressly contradicted, were not centerpieces of his career.

What we do know is that he's an extremely inexperienced absentee senator who never worked in anything outside of politics. That particular mold of human being, we know at least anecdotally, never turns out to be very conservative or sincere in anything they say.

So while Trump has made that a hot-button issue, I would hardly say it's fair to characterize those who see Rubio for what he is - a fresh-off-the-line conservative talking point machine with an unearned sense of entitlement and high likelihood of the lockstep establishment performance we will no longer stomach - as hung up on a single issue.

Should be noted that one of the many things Saddam did was try to asssasinate George H. W. Bush, former President of the United States. Attempted assasination of current and former heads of state is historically viewed asa legitimate casus belli. Removing Saddam was the right thing to do. That said, staying in that shithole and attempting to make of it something resembling a modern nation-state was the wrong thing to do.

Good point.

But for the Democrats Hillary is a fait accompli.

They are essentially stuck with her.

That's why the media polling is do desperate to sell Trump as a done deal.

We still have other options. Only a very small portion of the electorate has actually vote for Donald and those primaries were essentially open primaries.

Another point--who is the most liberal nasty commenter here in this thread--historically?

Mr. Moo Moo--and who does he pimp 24/7?

Most people particularly in general elections like to vote for postive things. Donald is not an uplifting inspirational speaker. I suspect the negativity of the campaign will depress turn out.

And, the general election has a very different voter model.

Many voters vote in the general--but do not vote in the primaries.

That's what I'll do. I'll make a muddy dark painting with near zero vegetative information so attention is directed to a depressing filthy sunset, perhaps sunrise, morning star. Whatever. One tiny fainted dirty grimy glimmer. That's what I'll paint today.
