11 I have never been able to get into any type of auto racing.

Watching a car go around a track for several hours just doesn't have much appeal to me.

I'm a baseball guy but I guess it's similar to people who don't like baseball and look at it as bunch of guys standing around for several hours every so often punctuated by a little action.

Hard to imagine that there are still sponsors out there willing to shell out big dollars for Michael to drive several dozen laps, then wreck, then go up into the broadcast booth and chatter on like it's no big deal.

He really needs to retire..

55 Get rid of the homogenized, Car of Tomorrow B.S.

Bring us back some good, gen-yew-wine STOCK cars, with roll cages, beefed up suspensions, the factory's and/or race team's best powertrains and some by Gawd racing!

Let's have cars that we can tell apart, other than the decals.

Allow of course, for sedans to be "coupe'd", and other things necessary to accommodate today's bland-as-oatmeal world of production cars.

And finally, get RID OF the *&^# soap opera themes of fueds, conflicts, jealousies and all that other "Pro Wrasslin" vibe that the marketing assholes cram into what used to be an honorable sport.

Hell, once upon a time, even the cheating was honorable. Long as it was deftly and adroitly accomplished, the cheaters were even grudgingly admired when caught, for their inventiveness and audaciousness.

NASCAR in the mid to late 1960s was a sport for the ages.

Now, it's just cereal and soap promotions at 200 mph.

82 I have had Nascar Raceview for years. Way back when it was called trackpass. My computer is too old and slow for it too work with the current Raceview. It crashed the browser several times a minute and I was looking forward to the mobile version to run on my galaxy S5. This year one gets both with one subscriptions. Last year it was $79.99 each. My problem is that I got a new credit card and the card they had on file to automatic charge this year is void. There is no where to change the card to the current one and pay on Nascar. com. When I sign in it still goes to "launch" over "buy". The mobile version does not think I have a valid subscription and limits to 5 minutes. I think I could pay and get the mobile version if I get a new Nascar account but as I still get the PC version for "free" why bother. After the 5 minutes if one deletes the data of the app you get another 5 minutes.

Not saying he sucks, but he is certainly overrated. This isn't a very good rookie class for WR. Over the last few year he wouldn't be considered a 1st round guy.

108 A friend of ours used to have Winston sponsor his racing team. Top fueled drag racing? My husband would go with them to the nascar races in Vegas. They helicopter you into the track. He would call me, can you see me. He was in the pit while they said, start your engines.
He got in trouble for lighting a marlboro in the winston suite. Oh well, they had fun. No more winston, no more awesome nascar trips to Vegas.

111 This is high season for my job, doing color/play-by-play for high school/college/independent sports. Basketball has wrapped up, so I called a couple lacrosse games last week, the Spring (mainly baseball) schedule is supposed to be arriving in my inbox any day. I love doing baseball, there's so much to draw on while analyzing, and everybody understands the rules/terms/jokes, so I can just chat about the game. Soccer is going to be big this Spring, too, along with a few "exotic" sports like Cricket, Rugby, Archery. We were supposed to do a rodeo last year, but somehow that fell through. Auto racing would be fun, judging by the radio calls I hear, with a team at every corner giving updates, I'd just need to learn the lingo.

You'd be surprised though how much technology goes into tires. They have to support the weight of the car and be able to withstand forces coming from all directions while still maintaining a good contact patch. What is happening where the rubber meets the road is highly dynamic and tire manufacturers still don't completely understand what is going on there.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the human nervous system can run up to about 200 mph maximum. Often wondered if that's why certain limitations are uniformly placed on all the vehicles.

In other words the realization could be that allowing the vehicles to achieve a speed that the drivers are physically impossible to respond to would be deadly.

165 I gotta question for the NASCAR peeps.

I heard something about how the winner didn't think he had a shot at winning until he got a push from behind. Then watching this clip the announcer said something about how he doesn't have a chance unless he gets a push.

So, someone on purpose gave him a bump to help him?

Is this because of feuds and WWE? I am certain that I am missing something here, but every time I encounter car racing it seems there's more going on than trying to get to the finish line first.

I am not questioning the Ways of Your People, I'd just like a cheat sheet to what's going on. TIA.
