Amazon hiked the minimum required for free shipping for non-Prime members to $49 from $35 on eligible items -- a 40% increase. Prime members are not affected by the change. The move is likely intended to entice more shoppers to purchase Prime memberships.

Supposedly, half of US household already have a Amazon Prime account. This turns the screws on the other half.

20 OT, I suppose, but on the way into work I listened to an NPR story about rampant abuse of women in South Asia.

I noticed, as the article proceeded, that any name mentioned was a Muslim name. About halfway through the article they dropped the fact that all the abuse they were describing was in Pakistan.

South Asia covers a bit more space than Pakistan, but the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is where you go if you want to talk about the rampant abuse of women.

It's a pity NPR couldn't have been a little more clear about that.

In Mean Streets news:

Police are seeking two men who assaulted a man and then allegedly removed his gold teeth from his mouth Thursday afternoon in San Franciscos Financial District.

At around 3:35 p.m., police responded to a robbery near the corner of California and Kearny streets. When officers arrived, they learned a man was approached from behind by two other men. One of the two suspects then punched the victim in the face, knocking him to the ground. Both suspects kicked the victim several times. One of the suspects took the victims gold teeth while another took the victims cellphone, according to police.

The administration has decided to let immigrants with three sexually transmitted diseases known for causing sores or lesions on genitalia to enter the United States, an expansion of a previous decision to let in those with HIV.

The Department of Health and Human Services this month opened the borders to those with the STDs, deeming the communicable diseases not a big threat to the United States.

29 The whole college funding formula is pretty bizarre: Depending on where your kids go, it may well be cheaper out of pocket to send them to a 50k/year private university instead of a 20K/year state school. The operative in play is how many kids from their home district are attending university X. They want your kids to become little marketing machines to promote the school, and attract more kids from that metro area.
And at the end of the day, after all these mental gymnastics, I am going to pay big $$ to expose my girls to leftist indoctrination.
For the chirren.

In any case, once the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) regained a quorum of commissioners and hired a new executive director, the agency reversed the previously announced policy and permitted Arizona (as well as Kansas) to include citizenship-verification requirements with the federal voter-registration form.
In response, the leftist groups mentioned above filed a lawsuit in D.C. federal court seeking to reverse the EAC's decision. They want non-citizens to vote in order to help elect a Democratic president.
The state of Kansas has moved to intervene in order to defend the EAC's decision. The Justice Department should be the principle defender, however. An important part of its job is to defend federal agencies like the EAC when they are sued.

However, Loretta Lynch and company have decided to tank the case. In a pleading filed today, the Justice Department "consents to plaintiffs' request for entry of a preliminary injunction" against the EAC. They are trying to make sure that the left-wing plaintiffs win by default.

The matter is being heard today before Judge Richard Leon. It seems clear that Kansas should be allowed to intervene in the case, particularly given the dive that the Lynch Justice Department is taking.

Internecine power struggle. Patton vs. Monty sort of bitter rivalry but still on the same team.

There's also a third group, who are, in essence, Grand Welfare Queens. They get the freebies and attention on a mega-scale, without learning an actual productive trade or expending any more effort than an occasional speech or (in election years) campaign. They don't even care much for power; without exercising it, they still get more than any Average Citizen.

The problem is they are banning people for supposed rules violations w/o specifying what the violation was. In fact they have a special council setup to look for conservative people and are banning them.

If they issued a statement and said Twitter is now reserved for the exclusive use of liberals and then banned people AND said they were banned because they were not liberal then that would be fine.

I remember reading an article not too long ago, about what it was like spending a night in NYC's cheapest hotel. There were no ceilings in the rooms...they were more like cubicles with doors. Thin stained mattress. Communal bath room. Bedding issued with cash deposit only. Bed bugs...and lots of them.

Even that business would complain about a legal heroin shoot house opening in it's neighborhood.

How sweet.) who all then "complain" about some noted media type.
If Twit's system is as automated as they claim, they'll be shut down - if not, then that's the move to publicize.

216 >>I suppose I'll be odd-man-out on this, but I see no "problem." Do conservatives expect a refund of all they've paid to use Twitter, or what?

It's a bunch of pieces.

One, Twitter isn't being honest or open. They want to talk about free expression and make money by appealing to vast numbers of people (who will see your ads!) and at the same time be hostile to the right side of the political world. They don't explain exactly what rules Milo or Stacey broke.

Two, it can be a very useful platform for talking to other people. Ace used Twitter in the case of Anthony Weiner's b.s. He kept talking to journalists who wanted to believe the hacked claim and showing how unlikely it was. Just blogging here would not have had anywhere near the same results.

Not a coincidence that Twitter is trying to shut up conservatives in an election year.

Everything I've read has said "no idea why he got suspended". Why him and not others.

Well, I know why and I'm not sure why ppl are acting like it's a big mystery.

Ken White wrote it at Popehat:

>> For every hour McCain is gone, some feminist remains unfrothed-at.

Stacy would search for certain key words relating to feminism and then retweet what some feminist was saying.

This would draw attention to a tweet that otherwise would have only been seen by a small number of fellow travelers.

Of course, much of the attention was not positive.

The poor dears would feel Attacked, Triggered Harassed etc. etc. etc.

Silly of them to be shocked, shocked to find out that Twitter is (was) an open system where anyone could find and comment on what you wrote. They are so used to being shielded that they assume they *should* be shielded everywhere.

I can understand why they didn't like it. I just don't get why there are no grownups at Twitter who can say "this is an open space; go set up a private blog and control comments if you don't want ppl to talk to you".

Who knows? With the tanking of the stock price, the company may put a grown up in charge.

Moreover, there's nothing in that speech that says or even remotely hints at the then-Dem controlled Senate, if a vacancy HAD come up and President GHW Bush were to have nominated a replacement, joebiden was calling for no hearings or no uppendowtonabby vote on the nominee.

Try to get a pro-gun letter past the censors at the NY Times. Or the WashPo or the LA TImes or......

Businesses have been reflexively anti-speech for a very long time, except when it benefits them.

And with anti-Americans like George Soros and Tom Steyer controlling them (see moveon.org, CNN and several other outlets), we'll eventually reach a critical mass where no alternative opinions are ever heard.

All under the guise of a "free press" that's anything but.

I'll be leaving Twitter soon because it has become the quintessential propaganda arm of the left and for me, I can't believe I haven't pulled the plug already.

Besides being a colossal waste of time, it has become something absolutely opposite of anything I would ever allow myself to believe in. The fact that I haven't pulled the plug already, I think, speaks to the dangerous almost addictive nature of these types of "social" sites.

A few days more probably. But I will be leaving that shit site.

Don't know about minds changed, but have appreciated seeing people occasionally stopped in their tracks.

Most recent example was after Bill Clinton started campaigning for Hillary. The young 'ums (and some older ppl who were just lying) didn't understand why ppl were saying such mean things about him when "all he'd done" was have an affair.

And yes, I recently shut down my twitter account.

Disturbing thing about Vic's news at the end of the ONT, especially if I come in late like this morning, is that it's too late to comment in the same thread.

Morning thread, Vic's news, JJ's countdown, MP4's racy pix or stories - that's the way the world's supposed to start the day.

Roughly the same size as Gloucester, MA (the city next door to my town), which is hip-deep in what they call the "Opioid Crisis." Big homeless shelter and lots of government handouts, plus a police chief who won't charge druggies if they "seek treatment" for their addiction(s). State/local funding for pills that supposedly cut down on the addiction(s), but the city is complaining that they're not getting enough.

If he gets the GOP nomination, then in the General election he will deliberately throw the race her way with frequent, over-the-top sexist remarks (to inflame the Democrat base who have legitimate doubts about Hillary's feminist bona fides), and by abandoning every position he took in the primary in order to alienate and dispirit the GOP base. His entire campaign is a farce.

479 While looking for headlines I came across the Ithaca NY heroin story. I thought to myself, Ithaca NY can't be that large.

I often drive through Ithaca on my way east...It's not a large city at all. Takes maybe10-15 minutes to get from one end to the other....on a 2 lane street. No major highways go through Ithaca. all 2 lane state roads.

481 >>The part of me that has stepsons and young nephews and nieces says "if
they must shoot up give them a safe, clean place to do it." The part of
me that pays taxes says "let Darwin take them." So far the former part
of me is winning but sometimes the latter takes over.

Well, speaking from the marijuana legalization standpoint: If you build it, they will come. Ithaca is going to be a magnet for heroin users --- and all the fun that comes with heroin addicts.

How hard was that, GOPe?
Costs *no* money to come up with that plan, and all of the people and processes are already in place to do this.
No.Brainer.

Exhibit A on why Trump is doing so well despite being slightly unhinged and a (likely still) Democrat.

489 Maybe they could build a new supermax in Chicago, or how about Manhattan or SF. Seems fair to me. It would be cruel, and plain ol' unfair, to put those poor misguided murdering bastards out into a wilderness area like Colorado or Nevada. I'm going to guess that Florida will get the nod, just to stir the poop and distract the electorate in this important year.

Asshole Constitutional Lawyer doesn't understand the difference bewtween
crimes commited in American and those on foreign soil by non-Uniformed
irregular Military in non-declared Wars. I guess he missed that class

Posted by: Nevergiveup at February 23, 2016 10:39 AM (mw8Dm)

He has never been a "Constitutional Lawyer". He has only argued one case in court and that was a shakedown of a company on race based on the questionable practice of impact based on quotas. He will not release his transcripts because in all likelihood they would show he was an AA acceptance and pass. Mooch's dissertation looks like something a 6th grader would write and he probably was no better. And he was the editor of Harvard Law Review without ever having written an article in it.
academically he is a piece of shit. If I were a boss or a hiring manager and he came in I would tell him the position is already filled.

Besides, this isn't meant for regular people. This is pablum for the LIV who knows not a damn thing about the Geneva Conventions.

491 Roughly the same size as Gloucester, MA (the city
next door to my town), which is hip-deep in what they call the "Opioid
Crisis." Big homeless shelter and lots of government handouts, plus a
police chief who won't charge druggies if they "seek treatment" for
their addiction(s). State/local funding for pills that supposedly cut
down on the addiction(s), but the city is complaining that they're not
getting enough.

Posted by: MrScribbler at February 23, 2016 10:29 AM

494 Methadone is tougher to detox from than heroin or other opiates. It's also easy to OD on because the high is short lived if you are just taking it for recreation and people tend to then take more before their blood levels have dropped.

503 Free college for all? Or free for all those admitted to college? Many claiming the European model of "free" university tuition fails to mention (or realize) that not all students are encouraged or allowed to attend universities. Depending on how the student does in their primary/secondary educaiotn, they may be shuttled off to technical schools or similar. I've met several who were told they would not be allowed to attend universities, but fought (and won) admittance.

504 NPR is a taxpayer funded MSNBC. Any way that they can slant the news to

I still listen to them from time to time. When all the music **so called** stations on my presets are rambling on about TV programs that I would never watch. I don't understand the morning drive to work formats. Babbling idiots with diarrhea of the mouth, and endless commercials. "Now getting back to our music, for one in a row."

505 A bit late to the party, but on the topic of Cuba:

I guess 55+ years forgives plenty? A lot of companies who had done business in Cuba were left high and dry by the Castro brothers. Anybody dumb enough to build a factory in Cuba is asking for it.

As for Cuban work ethic (from an early comment), it's pretty bad. Enough that the old Cuban guard (pre-Mariel/1980) is pushing to get rid of the Cuban Adjustment Act, especially since now that relations have been restored.
