104 The last time I tried mj which had to be almost 30 years ago, I only took a couple of hits but then experienced extreme paranoia. I went to my bed and curled up in a ball and kept telling myself it was the drug and it would wear off which it did about 2 hours later.

MJ is even stronger these days.

There's actually some medical study on this, which shows heavy MJ use will fuck up the connections in a brain that is not yet fully developed. So the folks toking up regularly in their teens and early twenties may be actually causing brain damage. If you're a little older this isn't as much of a concern unless you're a heavy user for a very long time.

That's it in a nutshell. Early and often will cause major damage, and the research very clearly shows that loss of cognitive functioning is essentially unrecoverable after quitting.


Which is not to say keep smoking into your 40s and 50s, just that the damage you already did is done. What is lacking in terms of long-term research is evidence of early onset dementia in long term users of marijuana. Anecdotally, it appears to be very clearly linked to long time users, but it's like the "scientific community" doesn't want to rock the boat at this time and provide evidence, when the political winds are blowing as they are.

For those sampling pot, I would highly advise against consumables. it's a lot easier to regulate how stoned you get when you smoke it. It takes about 30 minutes to come onto pot when you eat it and you are more likely to get too much. And yes, medical marijuana is totally different from the stuff that people used to smoke. On the other hand, you just need one or two hits to get an effect. I still haven't been to a legal pot store, but I just am not that interested in smoking it these days.

I've known long term pot smokers and long term drunks. The pot causes less damage. And a lot of folks that smoked when younger tire of it and quit when they get older.

Right. Although there is also the suggestion from the research that beginning to consume weed or THC products later in life does not have the same effect, again unless there is very heavy use over a very long period of time, since the vulnerable stages of brain development are over.

I wonder. Back in the day, and I mean 'way back in the day, there was a *lot* of ditch weed. Medium level was the Mexican choking hazard, sometimes good, often terrible. The "good stuff" was harsh ol' Columbian.

Well, I was "fortunate" enough at times to try Jamaican Red (pretty), Thai Sticks (tasty), and other really good stuff. Black Afghani finger hash (fortunately for me, only available once).

At one point, I got some real Acapulco Gold that was better than anything else I'd ever tried... but at the same time got some "Brazilian" that made the Gold seem like ditch weed -- literally one (large) bowl had half a dozen people who had been sitting on the floor in a circle passed out on our backs, with the bowl unfinished. And these were not newbies but hearty used-to-it smokers.

So, it's probably greater availability and cultivation of the best stuff now.

Not proud or ashamed of the usage - I survived it with no more damage than most of you alkies.

Tried weed twice in my life. 1st time I was quite drunk and got so sick (nausea etc) dying may have been a good alternate.

I was told that sometimes mj and alcohol were a bad mix, so the next time was cold sober.

Same results. Much later I discovered that for a few, weed is NOT a good thing, something in the body chemistry, apparently.

Don't know for certain and damn sure don't care.

230 By far the strongest thing I ever smoked was hash oil. These housemate dudes, science types, errrrr "borrowed" a bunch of flasks, tubing, etc. from a lab at OSU. Then they took like a couple ounces of good - not great - weed and boiled it way down into a black tar substance. They a small gob of the black tar with the end of a paper clip and held it over a piece of tin foil. They held a lighter to the tar and a single clear drop fell onto the foil. They then held the lighter under the foil and when the oil turned to smoke, I inhaled through a paper towel tube.

I was insanely high for like 6 hours. It was too much. And I was a major stoner at the time. Like smoked the sticky, expensive kind bud pretty much every day for a few years.

Yeah I read Go Set A Watchman. It wasn't that it was bad but that all the liberal/progs hearts were shattered to learn that Atticus was an evil RACIST. From what I read about Go Set A Watchman it was the original manuscript Harper Lee submitted to her publisher. The publisher saw great potential in Lee's writing and had her go back and write a book with the same characters but based around Atticus when Scout was younger. It wasn't a bad book, it just wasn't finished in the sense it needed to be refined. There was some heartbreaking details on a specific character in To Kill A Mocking Bird. It was an okay book.

The 14th amendment? Here's the problematic wording:

"nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

That's the only restriction: without due process of law.

Now, there's two ways of looking at that. It either means

1)a court case resulting in punishment which deprives someone of life, liberty, or property
2) a law is passed through proper process which does so.

We know its not #2, because people pass laws restricting certain things which have been overturned by the courts as a violation of the 14th amendment. So the only thing that prevents "totally equal protection under law" is if you're thrown in jail.

But either way, that's it: the only possible limitation on equal protection of law is through legal means.

Why are kids not able to drive at age 8? Why can't they vote, drink, etc? If its a court ruling that is required, then we cannot prevent a quadriplegic person from being a fireman.

That's why we have homosexual "marriage:" 14th amendment requires it. But that's just one example. Why can't NAMBLA guy have sex with an 11 year old? 14th amendment! Equal protection! Why can't I marry your wife? Equal protection!

The only thing that has kept this stuff from coming up is that the left hasn't gotten there... yet. The wording is horrendous. It was meant to protect blacks and former slaves and guarantee them full citizenship and protection under law, but what it did was open up a planet-sized can of dune sand worms.

What I most enjoyed about Mockingbird when I first read it as a teen and when I reread it 10 or 11 years ago is how Lee evoked a world that was as exotic to me as Timbuktu - the rural South of the 1930's.

And it was a world that she clearly loved very much despite its' racial injustices. Her rambling history of Mayflower and its' inhabitants and all their quirks and eccentricities ("never take a check from a Merriweather without a discreet call to the bank" ) and habits (Miss Maudie works in her garden all day and then, after dinner and a bath, she spends the evening sitting on her front porch in splendor, reigning over the street and smelling of talcum powder like a proper Southern lady) captured a certain time and place wonderfully.

I remember when I first read it I was puzzled when she wrote of Jem running though "collards." Yankee me had no idea what a collard was - or a CSA pistol.

I don't like Trump's classlessness, but I feel I've watched enough "let it burn" posts on this blog to finally say, "no, it's not enough to 'let it burn;' someone has to light it.'" Trump will. I'll gulp, buckle up, and vote for him.

I'll also be filming my indigo-blue Northern Virginia neighborhood as it erupts in beta-male indignation if The Donald does, in fact, become their overlord.

I think the Obama administration is trying as much as they possibly can to hold off things until after the next election. if it's Hillary they don't care. If it's a Republican, a Republican won't be elected for a whole lot of years.
