Not to be mean, Pappy, but you have no idea how pig-ignorant stupid these millennials* are.

You could show them that--they'll call you a liar and a racist or some other name.
If they cared about facts, they would already know this.

But: This is motivated by greed--it is not rational, it is not reasonable, it is not virtuous.
And every underhanded, dishonest, deceitful and disreputable means available will be used to defend their greed.

So, in the age of netflix, when one can watch 5 seasons of a series in a weekend, I've begun to notice that the open ended ones start pretty strong, tend to flag over time and just become repetitious. Vikings, for example, started out with a great story - peasant farmer / viking raider goes on quest to fulfill his vision of finding lands to the west, and then overcomes his jealous warlord back home and takes over the position. Spread out over the next season or two, they told the same basic story, but elevated a notch - local warlord/explorer goes on quest to develop lands to the west, but has to overcome jealous rivals back home, including the viking king. Basically, each episode has become some variation of the same drama over and over again. I think the writers set out to tell a story - a good one - and when they told it and found it to be very popular, they really didn't have any more story and began to recycle the same old stuff over and over again. Same is true with the walking dead.

85 So Whole Foods is "all in" in getting hipsters in their stores. Alrighty!

Here's why I am not a Whole Foods shopper (in addition to the prices) the shoppers are generally jerky - the types who manage to place their cart in such a way that they block the entire aisle while deciding which organic pinto beans they should get, that sort of self-absorbed behavior.

My regular grocery store, King Soopers, is friendly. They reorganized the store last year and for months after all us shoppers would ask one other"So, do you know where they put X?" It was like a big group project helping each other find things. And it's not uncommon that I assist an old lady reach for something one week, and the next week someone taller reaches for something I can't get at. I don't think a tattoo parlor will foster that type of community feel for Whole Foods, but good luck to them and their target demo, millenials.

15-17 years ago, that was the most misspelled word in, well, a thousand years.
And mostly, by those selfsame thousand asses.

I spent the better (worse) part of the run-up year protocol-ing for "Y2K." Now there is a blast from the past, no? And I didn't just get a T-shirt. It was an embroidered chambray which would brand one forever. With the Department's logo on the cuff! "I still have the shirt." Did not give in to the temptation to dry the Studebaker with it.

Should be able to start wearing it to themed costume parties before long.

They reorganized the store last year and for months after all us

uncommon that I assist an old lady reach for something one week, and the

I love the Foodtown near me. (Small, family-owned chain.) First time in the store was just before Thanksgiving and I was looking for those French's Fried Onions for the infamous green bean casserole. Went to the courtesy counter and was told, "They're right near the green beans." So I asked, "In produce dept., canned goods? She said, "Anywhere you find green beans, you'll find the Fried Onions." Sure enough!

And I now know they do that with lots of other stuff too.

113 I'm not sure how closely it still follows it, but TWD is based on a comic book series. I heard they've got plans for 10 seasons. I found the first season too "unrealistic" and didn't watch, but picked it up again last season. Still wish it felt like the writers had a better/deeper grasp of philosophy. They seem to want to do commentary on different aspects of coping with this situation, but it all seems to broad and cliched.

I'm enjoying The Leftovers much more.

116 Exciting news, everyone!

It may be possible to train your wife!!

I know, I know. Calm down: Results are limited and in the early stages.

Story:
My wife insists on using the outlet to the right of the vanity to plug in her hair curler. This causes the cord to hang over the center bank of drawers. Which she leaves there to let the curler cool down. This interferes with opening those drawers to get my toothpaste. If she used the left outlet, rerouted the cord, this wouldn't be a problem.

Multiple times, I've pointed out the logic and efficiency of doing so. And every morning, it is the same.

So, I started tossing the hair curler into "her" sink on the left.

Today, I find the curler still out but--she has coiled up the cord!! It's not in the way anymore!

This new behavior is intriguing . . . .

161 I love that the most popular character on TWD was a throwaway redneck jerk that doesn't even exist in the comics. Like a lot of sci-fi/fantasy, you can see how much the writers expect you to embrace the liberal-ish character (Rick Grimes) and yet cannot suppress the appeal of characters who "get it" like Darryl and Carol. Every time that show has character take the "that's not who we are!" stance when dealing with zombies or feral humans, they get people (and eventually themselves) killed. It really sucks we are going through this in slow-motion w/the open borders and refugee nonsense IRL.

==========
Let's see. I finished the remodel of that bathroom about 2 years ago.

And I specifically put in that plug for her hair implements.

And two sinks so she could have "her" sink.

Now, I could have perhaps avoided all this had I installed a power strip and a hair implement caddy under that sink.

But, damn, this was no "just swap out a vanity" remodel.

This was: Swap the master closet and bathroom, so the closet is where the old bathroom used to be. Included jackhammering out the floors to reroute plumbing, vaulting the ceilings and a lot more.

Well Ted, that is not agreeing on gay marriage, that is agreeing on law of the land. So it is a lie. Sneaky Ted does this squirrelly stuff routinely, then his revision reaches a few. It is no mistake. I guess he is trying to solidify his evangelical base, and Trump is right to call him on it.

Do "we" win the White House by re-litigating gay marriage, or is Ted just desperate to gain traction, and spreads disinformation to fire up his base?

Just kiddin'. I had my first colonoscopy last year at the age of 40. They knocked me out completely for the procedure--except for bringing me out just long enough for me to give consent to remove the polyps. One of them turned out to be pre-cancerous, so I'm glad I didn't wait until 50 to have the procedure. TotalBiscuit's (YouTube PC game reviewer) bout of colorectal cancer had scared me enough to get checked out.

When we go away, we don't want eco-friendly camping. We're looking for great hotels, restaurants, entertainment and shopping.

244 Approppo... approp.. arroppo... relating to nothing in particular except mention of Clark Gable above...

Have been enjoying adding old flix into our video playlist of superhero TV shows, modern movies, and YooToobs.

Watched College Humor (1933) to see what Bing Crosby had to do in it. Well, sing a little, of course. Football with leather helmets, fraternity shenanigans, sorority sexiness, making out, and professor Crosby hooks up with hot student. Pre-code movies sure liked to offer up the gals dishabille and drinking themes!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0023900/

Hold Your Man (also 1933) with Jean Harlowe and Clark Gable, hottie and con man get together and have a rocky romance. Just-met couple spending the night together and scenes in a women's "reformatory" as well as glorifying the con artist. Harlowe and Gable sure were young and cute/handsome!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0024130/

Both were kind of shallow and sometimes meandering plots. College Humor wandered all over the map, but it seemed to a great degree to be an excuse to feature Bing singing. Both had some real "characters."

One thing I really notice on old flix: the fast-paced patter. People were expected to listen faster in those days, with comprehension. No dragging out the thing to two and a half hours! And Hold Your Man, mostly romantic comedy, actually had dust in your eyes moments.

Drinking that slop through a straw is the only way I've found not to avoid gagging. My mother had chronic IBS and knew all about colonoscopies. God rest your soul, Mom, and thank you for that piece of advice.

247 Speaking of colonoscopies I remember seeing a YouTube video with some Scottish comedian (not Craig Ferguson, the other guy) talking about his procedure. It was hilarious.

If you are traveling now, and don't mind the cold (Not cool, cold. Whale digger's ass in the Klondike cold) then try Eastern Europe. Prague is gorgeous, as is Krakow and Budapest, and because of the cold, there are few tourists. Warsaw isn't really gorgeous, but it's very interesting-good museums, pretty decent food, etc.

If you like adventure, try south of the equator. You can dodge Zika mosquitoes, bullets, machetes, and who knows what. Very exciting.

I know what I would pick.

No, they didn't forget, but the revised the hell out of it. All the kid's history books in high school talk about is the contributions of (name the minority) to a particular event in history, without ever describing the event itself, and what happened. Also, white people are evil.

After reading the "Bernie has a dog brain" story in the sidebar, and having a long conversation on my 30-something-international-journo-niece's fb page with other 30 somethings OUTRAGED that people would so MISINTERPRET Steinem's JOKE, after everything she's DONE and IS, I offer the following:
Academia is ruled by aging hippies longing bitterly for their 60s heyday, where they, at obscene cost, inculcate brainless youth to be endlessly triggered by the fact that they missed the most significant era in the history of humynkind.

These kids don't know what a red-diaper baby is, but they so desperately identify with them!
So much so that they will vote for ONLY red-depends candidates.

I always laugh darkly when I consider that one of the big reasons for the Russian Revolution was the carnage in WWI.....so the Russkies bring in the Bolsheviks who start a Civil War that kills more Russians than died in WWI. And that's before the normal socialist/communist genocide starts up.
