29 For the fun of it:

Boss is relaying about a case she's working where the mom is complaining endlessly about the schools. She says they don't understand that "when my son gets upset or stressed he speaks in Spanish and they can't handle it"

They go to the school and are met by the school counselor and an administrator. The mom starts going off in English and Spanish, and they can't get a word in edgewise. The admin motions to the counselor and he leaves.

In walks a secretary who begins talking to the lady in Spanish. Who only answers briefly Si or whatever. The secretary sez: I can't get through to her.

My boss takes her outside and asks: Do you speak Spanish? She sez No.

We're all cracking up over this.

From what I can gather, CNN interpreted his remarks about going home as his suspending the campaign and then reported it. Cruz's staff members just picked up on that report.

Easily? It's taken the socialists a hundred years to build this indoctrination machine. It's taken the last 30 years of technology to really make it practical. It's taken decade after decade of stacking the deck, lying, stealing, and cheating their way into positions of power, convincing the population with one small lie per generation until no one questions why they send their kids to shit schools or their taxes being given to drug addicts or what money even is or whether it's right or wrong to judge people of different colors by different standards.

Easily? No. That's why it's working.

3 Palestinians killed as daily violence grinds on, read the CBS headline. At around 5:30 p.m. Israel time, CBS changed the headline to: Israeli police kill 3 alleged Palestinian attackers.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nachshon said the headline was biased and dishonest, and an example of unparalleled chutzpa. He said the ministry was working to correct the headline.

Two female Israeli Border Police officers were wounded by Palestinian terrorists who carried out the combined knife and shooting attack at Jerusalem's Damascus Gate on Wednesday afternoon. Both of the officers were rushed to a Jerusalem hospital, with one fighting for her life and the other in serious condition. The three terrorists were shot and killed by Israeli security forces at the scene of the attack

88 My thoughts on the Cruz "fraud" are this.

1. What has been alleged is not fraud. Fraud has a specific meaning, and nothing he has done rises to the level of fraud.

2. There may certainly be some dirty tricks at play - which I don't necessarily approve of. That being said, nothing that I have heard has been so out of bounds yet to make me question Cruz.

3. They are proving to me that Cruz is willing to do what it takes to win. Which has been missing from the last two cycles. Back to point 2, this could eventually cross a line but not yet.

4. With respect to Carson, Cruz has apologized - though frankly I think this is a rather weak charge. Shows some humility. Good for Cruz in doing so. Carson is probably the most decent man in the race - which is not to be a slight on the others.

3.

I worked at a place - some sort of thing related to social service - where we got a presentation by the local migrants' rights group about the Mixteco speakers.

The Mixtecan were an ethnic group in Central America that fought off the Aztecs for a good long time, are a seperate linguistic group, and to top it off the language is tonal like Chinese. There are also about 8 subdialects.
Anyhow we got a request from the local Migrant's Rights group that it was essential to provide help to these minorities in their own language since they were often not competent even in Spanish.

Now, we had 3 Spanish speakers in the office, but we didn't even have any candidates who spoke any of the Mixtecan sub-dialects - much less all of them.
We did do a whole lot of pamphlet pushing, so we asked if printing up a bilingual pamphlet in Mixtecan would be useful, and we discovered that even though there was a written form of Mixtecan, and it was even in the standard Latin alphabet, it was mostly only read by linguists, Mixtecan being a non-literate language. So even if we had a pamphlet, they farm workers would have to run to the University for someone to read it to them.

So we thanked the local Migrant's Rights' group for their time and promised to review their proposal.

90 Today is the 548th anniversary of the death of Johannes (Gensfleisch zur Laden zum) Gutenberg (ca.1398 - 146, the German "inventor" of the printing press, in Mainz, the town of his birth. Little is known of Gutenberg's early life, but apparently his father was a goldsmith (or perhaps a dealer in cloth), and he learned the goldsmithing trade. He is also recorded as being at the University of Erfurt in 1419, but then drops from sight for 15 years. It was in Strasbourg in 1440 that Gutenberg unveiled the secret of printing with moveable type, the first European to do so, while also inventing the printing press in its original, screw-operated form. In 1450, back in Mainz, he opened a print shop and began his monumental task of printing the Vulgate (Latin) translation of the Bible, which he completed in 1455 in an edition of 180 copies, which is still valued today for the quality of its typography. Subsequently, he mass produced several church documents, perhaps a Latin grammar, and then a second edition of the Bible. Gutenberg died in 1468 and was buried in the Franciscan church at Mainz -later destroyed - and his grave has been lost. I personally don't think Cruz influenced Steve King (whoever the hell that is)to send out a single tweet wondering if Carson dropped out but even if Cruz did motivate that tweet and even if King's single tweet caused a million Iowa voters to freeze in their tracks and switch their vote to Cruz, so what? You think such a tactic is ungentlemanly, unbecoming of those seeking the presidency?

Yes. A staffer got excited in the middle of the caucuses and tweeted (again, twitter gets everyone into trouble!) CNN without thinking and probably got busy and didn't catch the followup or didn't retweet that or something. That's what I think happened.

also, carson has been half dropped out for a month, so he needs to stop being so dramatic. He'll probably delay dropping out a few weeks just because of this.

Whoever wins the election is the one who's going to win the election. And Trump's "going there" with his attacks on Cruz. So why shouldn't Cruz?

It's mindblowing to me that people can take sides so whole-heartedly in this race, when the whole atmosphere of the race is "not this shit again." If you're opposed to under-handed attacks then be opposed to it when both of them do it. If not, then don't criticize just the one of them.

150 Right now,it is 50 degrees and windy out. The normal temps for this time of year in my locale are in the 30's. Which will occur later this week. El nino, which has happened forever, is driving this schizo weather we are having.

Meanwhile...watched a story this morning on F&F in which the ex Navy Seal reporter went to Hamtramck, MI, a small enclave surrounded by Detroit to report on how it has become majority Muslim in less than two decades.
Having been to Hamtramck, I can attest to the accuracy of his report.

Hamtramck, in 1987, was 90% Polish Catholic. So much so, the Pope visited it that year as he was touring the USA. It's where those of us living close to Detroit went early am on Panczki day to pick up those delectable pastries prior to the beginning of Lent. Great Polish restaurants, beautiful churches.

Fast forward to today. Hamtramck is now 55% Muslim. It has a female Polish descent Mayor, but the city council is completely made up of male muslims. Most of the store fronts have been converted to Middle Eastern stores where you can buy a new burka, etc. or Middle Eastern groceries. There are 7 mosques, some of which belch out the Muslim call to prayer five times a day on a loudspeaker, with all the ambience of a street in Peshawar.
The reporter spoke at a coffee shop with the council members, some of whom spoke with American accents having been born here and some who are migrants. All kept assuring that they are integrated, they want to get along with everyone, etc. Including the one who said he had gone to Yemen earlier this year to "visit family".
Navy Seal wasn't buying it, but had to let it go. There are 27 languages spoken in the local schools(My guess is middle eastern and african dialects).
He also spoke to a couple of the remaining Polish members of the community. They spoke haltingly of their concerns of the change in the neighborhood. Reporter followed up later with saying that the Polish population is obviously afraid and concerned and many would not speak on camera.

Welcome to Obama's America.

Unfortunately, what we need to do in this race is win. It needs to be a "not socialist" and we need to win. That's the Trump appeal.

Posted by: Ghost of kari - WAR at February 03, 2016 10:55 AM (xuouz)

We have several very good candidates for President, current and former. NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THEM IS PERFECT. It is not rational to look for a flaw and then hate the candidate for that flaw. FLAWS ARE PART OF THE PACKAGE.

Yes, I have my favorite, but I see no benefit in deciding that if my favorite doesn't get the nomination then I'm not voting. Frankly, if the candidate isn't in thrall to the establishment, I'll be okay voting for them.

So you see, Ghost of kari, some of us can overcome "how the human mind works." We apply a little logic and discernment.

Trump's doing Trump things, in the interest of Trump. He's auditioning for the nomination and he's proving he'll be a right bastard. Romney and McCain didn't want to rock the boat, wanted to assure the nation that they didn't *really* agree with their ostensible constituency. And Trump is just saying "This is what I'm gonna do after I WIN BABY WIN. Who's with me?"

He's treating the office like an office to which any person could be elected and tailoring his pitch. Not building a pentagram and gathering the usual suspects and speaking the proper incantations and invoking the right honorable deities of the clerisy at the given time for invoking the honorable deities of the clerisy.

I mean he's doing that too, to a certain extent. But with a wink and a nod. And it is undeniably refreshing.

If I'm being honest I've at least sipped the koolaid, but that doesn't mean I'm just all the way behind him no matter what shit he says. How could you be?

Whoever wins the election is the one who's going to win the election. And Trump's "going there" with his attacks on Cruz. So why shouldn't Cruz?

It's mindblowing to me that people can take sides so whole-heartedly in this race, when the whole atmosphere of the race is "not this shit again." If you're opposed to under-handed attacks then be opposed to it when both of them do it. If not, then don't criticize just the one of them.

But I guess that's not how the human mind works.

336 My rejoinder.

CO2 makes of .03% (that's point zero three or .0003) of the earths atmosphere. Of THAT ...... mans contribution is about 3% or .03

Using fifth grade math.... mans CO2 impact on the atmosphere is (.0003 x .03)=.000009

Now.... since YOU'RE the sciencey type person an Im the denier..... please explain to me, in either exothermic or endothermic terms, how .000009 is going to warm the planet.

Thats like say saying 9 people move to St Loius and now everybody is going to starve to death from overpopulation.

I imagine the same thing happens with plenty of old ladies. If not - well, f it, if I make it to 70, I won't give a rip about whether my legs are hairy or not. I'm not going to risk falling over and slipping in the shower to shave my legs at that age. Who's going to be looking at them anyway?

So slight increase of CO2 leads to slightly higher temps which lead to a larger increase in water vapor which leads to a greater increase in temps which then alters some other factor (cloud cover?) which feedbacks to even greater temps.

We are in an interglacial period, with the next ice age coming sometime in the next 10,000 years. The last four ice ages have made this a predictable thing. Our temperature is within 2 C of all the other interglacials. This hints at the strength of negative-feedback loops.

You can google it, but read the book "Exodus" by Leon Uris for a start.

Yes many of the founders of the Kibbutz movement came from Russia and eastern europe and it was set up along "socialist" lines...some of that was due to ideology but mush was also done for survival and circumstances. They were often set up on the "borders" and/or surrounded by enemies- i.e. Arabs- and in order to survive they had to have a communal type system.

Mind you, it has been declared a toxic gas, and is the cause for billions of dollars in regulatory cost, research etc., but she has no idea. Gina McCarthy.

I mean, she couldn't even do the math in her head.

400/1000000 = 4/10000 = 4x10-4 = 0.0004 =0.04%

Perhaps I used the wrong terminology or misunderstand what happened during the caucus. By "poaching" I mean that the Cruz team directed Carson supporters toward Cruz when CNN sent out the tweet suggesting Carson was dropping out. If the caucus-goers thought Carson was still in, how many fewer votes would Cruz have gotten? Enough to put him in second place as predicted?

Of course, at that time, Europe was not being invaded by millions and millions of migrants with an alien religion and culture. That changes the equation quite a bit.

And, to the man's horror, he couldn't turn the machine off!By the end of the story, the sexbot has electronically sealed the man's house, cut off his telephone ("you don't need anyone else when you have me") and is stalking him for more sex, while he frantically e-mails the company to come and take her away.

-No one can go nuclear on him because he goes way past 11. It's the "nuke the moon" strategy at work.
-He's setting himself up as apolitical and more palatable to LIVs and crossover dems by slamming Republicans.
-He's always always always in the news. No such thing as bad publicity
-This conditions everyone to listen when he speaks. Can this be said of Obama? Of anyone else in the race?
-It sets him up to seem eminently reasonable anytime he acts even remotely reasonable.

Actually, I've been trying to make sense of the results in IA, and it doesn't add up to me. Tons of voters showed up (which suggests Trump supporters), but the Trump+Cruz+Carson share was the SAME? And somehow 5% went from Trump to Cruz & Carson, while Carson was expecting an upsurge? At the same time I have an article from a reporter who was actually AT one of the voting locations, said that all the new voters were Trump-ers, and that THAT location went big for Trump.

We've also become aware of two crooked things the Cruz team did. (The "voter violation" stuff, and the rumor that Carson was out).

566 I don't like "evolutionary" scientists, mostly because they bring a hefty wad of presentist presumptions with them about what evolved why, and, the founders of Anthropology were a bunch of ghey Regency dandies. So their "findings" tell you all about them, very little about the past, and nothing at all about Us.

However, superfluous hair is easily explained in evolutionary terms. As women age, their voices become more shrill, and develop ever-higher overtones. This was so that they could fulfill their role as warning sirens and oracles. At the same age point, men grow hair inside their ears that exactly blocks those tonal ranges.

The way it worked out, Rubio pulled in votes from the small fry establishment candidates, and the about 5% of what Trump lost went to Cruz and Carson (about 2/3 to Cruz).

Yet there was a huge turnout, which should have favored Trump. I've even read an eyewitness account of a bunch of new trump voters showing up and easily winning an precinct. Granted, that's just ONE location, but isn't this kind of like the 1/64 coin flip? The reporter just HAPPENED to show up at one of the FEW places where what we THOUGHT might happen actually DID?
